john wallace is from my hometown (rochester, ny) and i watched him absolutely clown the best players in the city at the charlotte beach courts one summer afternoon. i remember watching that game against georgia and it is still one of the most memorable games i can recall. that pass from wallace was ridiculous.
Yep, without question. UK just had just a little too much (I believe five NBA players on that team), but Wallace was an absolute man among boys in that game. Everyone thought UK would smack 'Cuse, but he almost singlehandedly kept it close.
Great memories. I was at the game in the blowout against G-Town. I have never experienced a crowd like that in any game in any sport. Fans forget that after their 11-0 start they went 2-5 with some embarrassing losses, including a 64-83 loss at Georgetown. But that's when Boeheim made the switch to using the zone full time and it started to pay off even though they had an agonizing loss to Villanova. That crowd fo the Georgetown game was different. They were very much into it from the get-go, but they were surly as well and they weren't going to put up with flat play from the team, bad refereeing and Georgetown pulling their usual nonsense. The crowd DEMANDED that the team thoroughly kick Georgetown's asses and they did. Never experienced anything like that in sports.
John Wallace was absolutely unbelievable.
