Definitely. He was a 2 guard with a front court mentality. Billy Owens and Derrick Coleman definate stars but Stevie had a smooth style to his game. Those lefties have can be your most exciting players on the court. Todd Burgan anyone ?!?

Derrick Coleman was my all time fav. player in college basketball, AKA the Motown Masher, I wish his pro career would have been as good as his college career. Syracuse in the late 80's was my all time fav team to watch all the way out here on the west coast.

I guess i should consider myself lucky. I went to Syracuse in 85, and we had Pearl Washington. The next year, we had Coleman and went to the National Championship. Then Stevie Thompson and Owens.... It was the most electric era of Syracuse hoops, and i had four years of half court season tickets in the Dome. So much fun.
Very cool to hear that it was appreciated by people on the Left Coast, as well. We used to hear about recruits who would come home from school and turn on Big Mondays to see us play, and we got a few recruits out of California.
      Not the same these days.....

I was 14 when family moved to Syracuse area in 1987. I had never watched basketball but Sherman Douglas shortly became a god to me. His passing skills and creativity were mythical and they still shine in this video. It was such an exciting time and Cuse had their most athletic teams with a true PG and amazing frontcourt as well. They were exceptional talent wise. I thought those teams with Douglas, Coleman, Owens, Thompson and Seikaly were unstoppable forces that would win every game. It is still amazes me that they never achieved Final Four in 88, 89,90. Reality is that they were undisciplined and could not fit FTs. Sherm was under 70% for career. They also lacked a good three point shooter. It really hurt them against good shooting teams like URI and UMinn who ended their tourneys early those years. There was also fact that Georgetown was a better program at time. While I love 'The General', it was Charles Smith who was better PG. He was better defender and better shooter. Jaren Jackson was great 3pt shooter as well. G-town recruited best centers in America. Who could forget Mourning/Mutumbo on same team? Unreal talent but post 1987, the ACC/Duke really started to dominate landscape in late 80s. I think they sent Gtown packing in regional final one year. After that, the Big East really struggled for years to get team to final four. I think Seton Hall was last in 1989 until 1996 Cinderalla SU team.
