I’ve been dying to do sound since I was 11, starting helping/mixing/setting up shows when I was 12… I’ve done 1000’s of gigs since then as well as managed venues with touring acts. I’m 26 now and I have Pro equipment, RCF line Array, M32, industry standard stage pack, etc… I always get bands saying i’m the best they have worked with but most of them can’t afford to hire sound often. The 2 biggest sound companies in my area dominate small shows and large shows. most of them being sub par quality do to the kids they are sending to run it. i’m dying to get consistent sound work but I need it from Festivals, cities, concert series and I can’t seem to break into any of those. I’m in the $500-$1500 category and I take extreme pride and every show. no feedback, no patching issues, I try to be extremely polite and offer the bands anything I can to make them comfortable. like I said the bands love me, but they can’t afford me. How do I break in above the band level bookings?

At 26 years old you just need to keep doing what you’re doing and wait for it to come to you. It takes at least 10-15 years of solid pro level gigging and networking to get established. Sounds like you’re well on your way brother, just stay the course. It’s a very competitive industry so it takes time for people to learn that you not like the bottom feeders around you.

I enjoy running live sound, but I'm too old to be a "furniture mover" these days. If you do not want to sweat, this job is not for you!
