Hopefully this means we can get persona 5 arena down the line, if atlus is willing port p4au now, I feel like the chances are higher than ever
I feel like this is definitely a litmus test to see if there's still demand for fighting games before they commit to P5 arena. Or maybe I'm coping, but I can dream
Part of me is hoping p5 arena is already in development and this is just more money to fund it
Or maybe they are just re-releasing old Persona games not available on current platforms.
God I wish
This is only the beginning and I'm glad the anniversary is off to a pretty good start like this, finally.
I'm still in disbelief
Suggested: Hype
Your grandfinals fight with Grover at NEC 15 inspired me to pick up narukami

Was going to a birthday party on January 24th when LK uploaded a video on p4A mitsuru. Weirdly enough I'm going to another birthday party today, on another p4A upload...
Time to actually learn these buttons all over again. Gonna have a damn blast time..
*realizes that Shadow Naoto is a character*
I don’t think I’ll be going online so much
Shadow Naoto is a fair and balanced character
idk I'm finna play ShadowLab
There’s a good chance she’s getting nerfed because they’re making a 2.50 vers
@@doncinati7644 in the 2.50 version I think you can’t burst out of the Shadow characters attacks when they’re in frenzy state
@@somekami3375 that’s so wild lmaooo what
It feels so weird to be part of the extreme minority of people who is pleased by this announcement -- usually when Atlus pulls this kind of weird niche announcement I am not one of the people who is hype, but now I know what they do these for.
yeah right? seeing so many people in the game awards chat not being hype at all reminded me how niche the community is
@@ghoulchamp6242 Even within the FGC, I think we can only get so excited since they havent announced rollback. We as a community have a new standard. Fighting games without it really really suffer now.
@@GGJD100 I certainly agree, I'd be very disappointed if it didn't have rollback. I'd be surprised if they not only missed the rumbling of the FGC that every game's gotta have good netcode to survive but also if arcsys said nothing to them about it.
Given that blazblue just got rollback and p4u is pretty structurally similar under the hood, I'd be surprised if it didn't get rollback too. Might even be the reason BB got rollback in the first place.
I'll get hyped when we get Rollback
I was extremely surprised to hear today that the RPG side of the community was sad about this announcement.
Even though I have mixed feelings about the game's balance, I'm happy it's coming to modern systems.
I'm erring on the side of "This won't have rollback" just to not be disappointed if Atlus ends up doing what Atlus does, but I'm still really glad this game got ported. It doesn't even really look like my type of game, but I'm happy that the community doesn't have to go through 8 million hurdles to attract anyone new now that they can just say "Go buy it on Steam". As a side note, I'm also quite interested in how the meta will develop considering that this is a patch no one outside of Japan even got to play, so there hasn't been a ton of documentation on it
Thats probably smart
Like i think its definitely possible since it’s a rerelease of a game that hasn’t been on any current consoles (and technically this version just hasnt been on consoles) so they inherently have to change a fair bit of the game, BUT…
Who knows since we don’t really know how limited they are in-terms of making changes to the product.
Hell, depending on arcsys’s involvement, or lack thereof, we could be screwed lol
Considering that both GGXX+R and BlazBlue only got rollback because they legitimized fan-made rollback mods, a PC version of P4A basically means we'll have the possibility of fan-mod rollback eventually.
I am also very curious how an international meta will look
The original game had a good Netcode at least
Even if they don't add Rollback
good news
Super excited for this. P4A was the game that got me back into fighting games (casually, but still) in High School after having played a ton of Soul Caliber as a kid. Can't wait to get back to it with the skills, knowledge, and confidence I've gained since.
Ultimax 2.5 is extraordinarily cursed, in a very fun way. Even though I prefer Arena over Ultimax, I'm definitely excited for the stupidity to come back
I love the character retrospective videos you do
I've been hyped to try P4 Ultimax after seeing some of your other videos. I just hope they add rollback since if they don't have it I don't think I'll stick with the game for long.
I wouldn't hope if I were you.
Whats a rollback?
@@daprince001x5 in unga bunga words: Good online that barely lags, basically a must have on fighting games
@@daprince001x5 a thing that make online almost perfect
In case of P4AU even If they don't add, If the online is like the original it will be fine because the netcode was really good
I honestly like the fact you uploaded this, I loved watching you play Persona Arena and was always wanting to try it out. It feels great the fgc is thriving with options and pc's getting some love!
Always been a persona fan but I was never in the FGC when this came out. Can't wait to try it
I was just like this glad I can get the game on steam which will have a more active player base than the ps3
Kinda cringe thinking about it, but it's what got me into the fgc.
I'm sorry that your first game will be one without rollback.
@@skunthundler I'm used to play without Rollback
i didn't realize it was the unreleased version from arcades we never got to play. i don't even know what the changes were, though I do remember being hype at the time since I played shadow mitsuru for fun a lot of the time.
from what I can tell the characters are mostly just better than they were in the version we got before, just weaker anti-airs and more Shadow shenanigans, you should be fine playing Shadow Mitsuru
P4AU is some pure, good kusoge but this version is going to be the 2.5 version from the Japanese arcades and I have no idea how much of a kusoge that version is.
Great video LK. Any chance on you making a video covering new system mechanics and character changes for 2.5?
I'm excited
Been playing fighting games my whole life but just got into persona last year, Cannot wait to be apart of this scene
For people thinking this game would not have rollback:
It was pretty surprising to see atlus even port persona 4 to pc in a first place. But the only way i can understand p4a is arcsys pushing for it. It does not make much sense for them to just randomly commission this port and even then they would ask arcsys guys to do it.
That being said, arcsys places heavy emphasis on rollback since +R and strive. They would implement it if at all possible, and i cannot see why atlus would care enough to make them not do that. It would be extremely foolish to not have this game with rollback seeing the success of rollback netcode has been noted by all japanese developers at this point.
Didnt someone else make the rollback for +r?
I have little hope because atlus
Japanese devs don't want to use Rollback because they don't understand it well
Unfortunately
@@devilmaycrysarockingdontcome yes pretty much all the recent rollback updates were community projects that get supported by devs. It's possible it will get an update down the line due to this.
@@The_Death_Owl So basically they waiting on the COMMUNITY to get the shit done? Lmao jesus christ the state of companies......
What a clean character select screen
One of the best UIs of any fighting game
Fantastic intro to the game! I would say that it’s kinda weird to tell people to “prepare themselves” though? Only because at the end of the day it’s just a video game so get mixed and have fun, don’t be spooked or intimidated by pretty colors on the screen.
Never got to play this game but was always on the radar, so kinda excited for this. I know you said it's easy to pick up but it looks daunting as hell at higher levels with the background footage.
I know this is hella early but maybe a quick "starter" pack of characters that are easy to pick up for every archetype would be nice. Just so newcomers kinda have a entry point I guess.
Just pick Narukami if you're new.
i remember at the start of the year i really wanted to play this so i downloaded RPCSX 3 and had a blast with 30-ish hours clocked in.
Whats that? A ps3 emulator?

I’m rebuying this for me and a couple of my boys so we can get back into it. On ps5 likely. I think I’ll get it for both Xbox and ps5.
I am SUPER excited for this. Persona is the only fighting game I managed to get decent at I had absolutely given up on us getting 2.0 though, but now would you look at that
I’m hyped about this game I’ve seen how broken the shadows are in the 2.0 version when I played a Japanese version of Ultimax and it’s insane I can’t wait to play this again
Cant wait to pick up yukkiko again. Ill never forget when the lobbys were closing for good a pro yukkiko (doobylovers?) was teaching me some tech. From then on, and from LK, ive been passing info on regardless of salt after games lol
Just now checking this out after the rollback announcement. Been wanting to try this game out and rollback was enough to tip it over the edge. Looking forward to trying another Arcsys game with rollback, lol
3:38 LK kinda drippin rn hold on
can't wait to play this game for the first time
I only ever got to play the cast in tag
Make a Margaret guide! There are lots of new players with an interest in Margaret over in the Ultimax discord server, and we lack any visual guides for the character.
You’d be the best person to make it
tekken's anniv is in a few years, i hope they are doing something to make all tekk avail on steam on that yr. i know fans will already want ggpo for EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.
been waiting for this vid since the game was announcced im hyped as fuck
I wonder how shadow characters will fare in the new patch now that they have Burst and don't keep the SP for the next round.
Probably going to still be strong somewhat but i guess s. Naoto can't just remove your entire Fate counter in one go + Hamaon mix in the first 30 seconds. Might be wrong though (I am extremely casual).
good one.. i love how it plays, the variety is insane, an the story mode is unironically mad interesting. esp adachi's side arc 🙏🏽
edit:you said Shadow Ken is going to be better?? 😳 YESSSS that was my main but i realized Ken was jus... better.. an then i realized Yu & Adachi are better lol. i hope Shadow Ken & Koromaru is better cus i LOVE that char. i remember some of their combos too 🤣🤣
i like how your Margaret looks tho... she looks mad fun. i wanted to try Elizabeth too 🤔 ugh i legit may cycle thru the roster
Definitely gonna look out for the vid that talks a bit about how to pick a character from who's available. There's a lot of fgs on the table for my wallet, but I'd like to take a look at this one if there's hope for good netcode
I am so goddamn hyped that this got rescued from oblivion. Grimy and insane as it is its my favourite fighting game of all time just for the pure fun factor.
Super hyped. I love persona franchise.
I'm excited for this game because there's a good chance I'll be bad at it but that doesn't matter because its also the story sequel to Persona 4 and Golden was the best game I played this year
@@starbreaker6441 nah
He will
Actually the only thing that can get confusing is Labrys origin but the Arena story itself feels like a canon version of P4A story even thought both are canon
I don’t want a team or tag game but a “gang is all here” fighter like smnt vs persona would be sick
Imagine Nahobino kicking down a literal Door for 2 whole rounds, it has high potential, as Nocturne onwards the main characters have a good amount of signature moves
this is the dream
I can’t wait to play Kanji again! Only grappler I like, but that’s because Kanji is one of my favorite characters in P4.
I'd love to see you do a retrospective on Narukami the torturer of P4A and P4AU
You playing the arena games is what made me want to join the FGC. If this game comes back on the scene in a healthy way it would be amazing.
Til then I’m just gonna keep sweating on strive
Yo LK, what do you think about the balance thing? Would you preffer the 1.1 balance? The arcade one? Or a new one overall?
I'm asking this 'cause I'm really worried that the "kusoge" version ends up scaring many new players to the game.
iirc its getting a exclusive one for pc
@@polar6066 From what I was told, the 2.5 is just bugfixes for 2.0, so it's the same thing balance-wise.
I want rollback really badly of course, but this was one game that snuck between the Era Fightcade covers and the batch of games that already got released on steam, so I'm just glad to get to try it for the first time.
But that will grow ten times if they add rollback, of course.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax was THE game that got me into fighters back in 2019 (thanks Moopoke), and made me fall in love with ArcSys fighters in particular. Its why I tried Accent Core +R when that got Rollback, why I followed Strive's development for 2 years, why I picked up Central Fiction when THAT got rollback, and why I'm over the moon to see one of my favorites come back. Thanks Ultimax for getting me into my second favorite genre of games, looking forward to adapting to 2.5 haha
Can’t wait to finally play this game!! Wish it had rollback
been wanting to play this game forever but never bothered due to its nature of being locked to older hardware, super fucking pumped to try it for real now.
I'm so hyped for the port. I had this game when it first came out but none of my friends were into fighting games so it basically just collected dust after I finished story mode. Now I finally have an excuse to learn this one and I'll have people to play it with! Plzzzzz give us rollback ArcSys
I excited for the switch release
Let me help you out LK, its the type of game we didn't know we needed. As someone who's played SMT and thrives off fighting games, I can't believe I haven't played Arena.
7:25 BRO WHAT????
There's NO way I would play this in tourney you're actually insane...
I played it at a arcade it’s so good and so fun to play
I really want to get this cuz I love persona, but idk if its worth or how long it'll actually have active players on pc
Can't believe they're releasing this now lmao
In my dreams they would have released vanilla arena with a balance patch to go along with it
Speaking of moves not being used getting buffed, I'm surprised sol's mob cemetery in ggst hasn't got buffed yet
Hoping that this opens a door for them to remaster all the other Persona games (including 1&2) seeing as most are hard to find, especially 1&2’s price for the PS1. Not to mention seeing 3&4 remastered in graphics like P5
Ill give benefit of doubt but if it is what i am expecting no love for blazblue? Rollback beta?
Will there be a video involving the 2.5 patch notes for characters in detail before the launch or nah?
I fucking love this game just because the characters are so varied and expressive. You can always find a playstyle that suits you and with how the game is balanced. Despite presence of top tiers, as long as you can learn your character properly you can do well
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax content in 2021 going into 2022 is what I live for
Unfortunately if there's no rollback I won't be able to play. With my friend and that's all I care about. Really hope there is cause we both love persona 4
Could you make a guide on the Axe bull girl?
How did they buff shadows in the final version? Did they give them their burst back, and if so what makes them different than just a better version of a normal character?
The hype is mad real. If there's no rollback netcode imma be mad sadge
I wonder if they would make new fighting controllers for this game.
Is there an article anywhere that outlines the differences between this and the original release?
If atlus doesn't put rollback for ultimax I hope fans find a way to implement it like they did with dengeki, it will become a discord game but that's so much better compared to how its literally dead
A fucking awesome one
Aki Gang 4 Lyfe
I still can't believe they showed the best reveal at the beginning at the game awards wasn't a fan of persona 4 at the time but I loved persona 4 arena. But in the way I loved street fighter 2 played one set of friendlies with my normies friends and then never again cause no one nearby held tourneys
"what type of game is it?"
a good one :)
As a massive p4 fan around the time of arena being announced, the biggest thing i remember was us in EU being screwed over by atlus not having a european publisher resulting in the game releasing a year late over here (importing wasn't an option either because they made the amazing choice of region locking the ps3 version) so I lost interest by the time the game did arrive. Ultimax was better in this regard but was still a month late so chances for a playerbase were a lot lower so I'm glad I can just finally play this game properly, I am concerned about whether or not there is rollback though.
There sadly isn't going to be roll back from what I have found so far.
"Magatsu Mangle them!".
What type of game? A fun one
Does LK have a beginner guide for this game?
so, I had a question about the version. Remaster version says 2.50, but if you go to the arcade version website, last news is about 2.02. Was there 2.5 arcade and they just never updated the website, is remaster actually a newer version compared to arcade, or are they just increasing the version number because it's console/pc release?
It's gonna be the latest arcade version that never made it to consoles right?
I really wished they brought in p3 protag
So which characters are the high execution swaggy ones?
I feel like we won’t get arena until P6 it just wouldn’t make sense any other way since both are beyond overdue.
I mean, I wouldn't say P6 is "overdue".
There have been pretty long gaps between some of the other games. I guess it has been about 5 years since the original P5 released, but I think they'll probably push for P6 on current gen consoles. I could easily see a 2023 release at earliest.
You must be new to Altus? 😭
What changed in 2.0 to 2.5 I can't find a 2.5 vers patch notes anywhere
no one knows yet
Where are my Elizabeth riders at?!
Does this game have auto combos?
I remember P4A vanilla did
When's the Igor DLC tho 🤔
The cashgrab type
Its gonna be like melty blood type lumina. People are gonna hype it up, pick it up for a few weeks and then drop it and move along.
Man its been a while since LK made a melty video huh
Wasn't the final arcade version 2.0, not 2.5?
yes, 2.50 will be based off 2.0 with more changes
There is no way it has rollback. They'd have said so right away if it did
Definitely gonna want a Margaret guide for P4U, I really wanna know how to play best Velvet room attendant when this game is released on Steam lol
It's definitely not a game for me (specially without regional pricing or rollback), but I'm happy for people who like it.
Between BBCF and Strive, I'm pretty much set for a long time.
The answer to the title is kusoge
What type of game is Persona 4 Arena Ultimax? It's a raw kusoge that's for sure
short answer:kusoge
Hey LK, loving the recent content, was wondering if we could get a video on shadow characters? It's a huge pain trying to find info on them online; why most of them were bad in 2.0, and especially getting anything on what changed and why they were busted in 2.5. As someone trying to learn the game, I'd really appreciate it
all of them were great in 2.0 practically broken to the normals, it's just there is 1.1 where only far few are worthwhile but 2.0 they broke the game. We are yet to see what happens in 2.5
Are you still going to play bbcf just to try its rollback on Steam?
How is the game balance wise?
Is it on ps5? I can’t find it on the ps store
Excited to see people goofing with Shadow characters. Dunno why but Shadow characters create the most chaotic matches
PS. Persona 4 Arena still has the best UI design. Its on par with Persona 5
