This was my first ever fighting game when I was in my early Teens
My dad got it for me as a birthday gift
I had no idea what persona was and had no interest in fighting games
Now I absolutely love both and am super looking forward to playing and learning this game at a high level now that I’m more experienced.

It's also worth mentioning that Mitsuru is a charge character, so if you're not comfortable with charge inputs, she might not be the best for you.
i first got interested in rise because she has a move that just makes this a rythm game for a bit

I mostly played Narukami cause he was so easy back in the day but this time I'm gonna get really sweaty about Adachi. I watched some pro play, and he has my favorite play style in fighting games: Pavlov's offense, a character who is built around using tools to punish sloppy play to condition the opponent into either getting progressively more angry and more sloppy, or overly cautious and defensive so you can get away with stuff you shouldn't. Something about using human error and psychological pressure is so addictive, and he has a whole tool box relying on that aspect of fighting games is so sweet. Plus getting away with things you shouldn't is fun.
And don't forget that Mangatsu and Heat Riser allow you to meme the opponent to death

So glad you made a new video for 2.0. I watched the old one in preparation for this game but as someone who didn't play the original it was very difficult for me to understand some of the unique aspects of this game without being able to put hands on it (things like how the SP system worked, Persona breaks, Awakenings, Instakills, etc). This video is MUCH more beginner friendly, and is especially so now that I AM much more familiar with these mechanics as I can now play the game. Cheers

Yoskuke losing glide without getting anything in return seems like a really harsh nerf. He does very little damage, and now has a much harder time opening the opponent up.

Been playing Yukari and Yosuke from back in the day and they feel somewhat the same for the most part still a fantastic guide for the new players
When I played BBTAG the Persona characters were some of the most interesting to me, and I had never played a Persona game. Glad I can finally try them out in this game. I just picked P4AU the other day on Steam. Aegis and Mitsuru are the characters I like so far.

Careful the game is very technical and complicated at first. Something alot of reviews don't mention. You also can't map dash or air dash to a single button like Strive.

I main these 3. Aigis is my go to heroine be it ranked or unranked games ( I love her orgia mode options),Yu as a sub ( I think he plays just like Ky in Guilty gear) and Mitsuru (just for fun, though I find her mirrors a bit too slow ).

I'm admittedly... new to the 2D fighting game scene. I started with Antinomy of Common Flowers but when I heard P4AU was coming out again, I wanted to get it. I was kinda hoping someone could kinda guide me to a character type to play as to really get into a groove. I mean I kinda get pretty rushdown? A lot of my aggressive plays are corner pressure but I usually play with a close and zoning type in tag team games.

34:41 This is actually wrong, as the shadow versions do 90% of the normal damage.

@@fonzworthbentley7455 RUclips got rid of annotations a long time ago.
Yeah in 1.0 it used to do 80% damage, but now it got buffed to 90%. Individual damage is still worse then normal version, but the gap is much less noticeable.
In 1.0 shadow health used to be a flat 2k increase across the board, but now it’s only 1k [Kanji/Akihiko only gets 500 specifically]
Shadows no longer has meter carryover like they did in 1.0
Shadows now has burst that can be used as shadow fury resource. This is the big change that makes Shadows more viable because they have a defensive option they lacked before, unburstable combo that fixed Shadow Fury being weak before to go along with Awakening supers not needing awakening + reduced meter cost in Shadow fury ,

I dunno if you'll see this Lord Knight but thanks for the video. I love persona but this is my first time playing the fighting game and I have no idea who to play at all. Any recommendations? Anyone who's just fun to play for a beginner to P4AU?
In yall’s eyes, how are shadow characters balanced compared to their normal counterparts? I hear stuff like you should only ever pick shadows in 2.0 but I can imagine that’s exaggerated.
General consensus from top tiers and the Discord is that most Shadows are still "Pick and win" like Chie, a few are better than 1.0 like Yukiko and Kanji who can do some nutty stuff if you give them room to breathe, but yes it is a bit exaggerated.
It's still pretty much Shadow Chie/Yu/Mitsuru/Sometimes Naoto running amok, just that a few others can be used and not be a troll pick.
Shadow Mitsuru is unbelievably disgusting. As you can see in the video, she gets 7k off of normal hit 5A midscreen. The others are cheap, but I wouldn't say they dominate the game. We'll see what happens though
It is exaggerated. Shadows are definitely much more viable now as they were largely gimmick status in 1.0, but you can still do fine with their normal counterparts. Some normal counterparts are better then the shadow counterparts still. Not to mention there are several good characters that don’t have a shadow mode like Minazuki
@@mrharvy100 Minazuki is basically Sho's Shadow, but with a complete moveset
Shadows are generally better than their normal variants, the difference isnt incredibly significant but it's still notable, it does vary a bit from character to character, and there are a lot of characters without shadow variants that are still quite good. Overall the character viability is more even across the entire cast than it was in 1.1 but it is definitely offensively skewed with shadows being a bit better overall.
I kinda wanted to see if Yukiko had any QoL changes as someone who only played the game casually but hey the fans being more frequent is a nice change. Wasn't expecting much positive about her to be said.
I so wish Makoto Yuki was in this game, it would be so cool. I would main him instantly.

I’m seeing people do s.naoto combos and ending in the Gun super with the shotgun but they do it twice when they pop shadow is that still a thing because I can’t seem to get the other super to be a true combo

I havent seen too many combos on this game, would you say that they're difficult overall? Or is it just a matter of like hitting gatlings into specials
Depends, basic confirms are smaller and are just basic gatlings into specials but dumping meter or landing certain starters will lead to bigger combos. Landing fatal counters will also lead to insane stuff too
Harder than Strive, easier than games like Xrd.

Ken is deceptively simple in my opinion. When I compare him to playing Carl or Zato it feels super easy.
A quick 236C into 6A is a good way to get in quickly with akihiko but it's not very safe on block
I REALLY needed this thank you. If i may ask is there a community for a fighting game beginner like me can get help on getting better? I always want to get a community but fighting games are intimidating to get in to. I really want to enjoy this game while i hVe my chance
The persona arena ultimax discords have a lot of resources for characters and the game but most people there pretty experienced so maybe dont use it for matchmaking till you feel comfortable with the game (or if the player numbers happen to be low lol) there could also be a few new players that also join the discord so if you find those guys you could fight with them and practice together

I usually play rushdown characters like: orchid (KI), cammy (SF), Giovanna (GG:ST) I'm not sure if there's a character like those from what I see here.. :(
Is there a downside to shadow characters if they can just use all their supers and have a burst in this version?
No awakening and burst is replaced with shadow frenzy which means no more offensive or defense burst. Shadow Frenzy basically puts them into something like Hyper mode in KOF or Chaos Code which allows them to do insane combos and even TOD. No awakening means no defense buff when you drop below 35% health after a combo or single hit. Shadows have higher health but it doesn't fully compensate as the defense buff from awakening reduces damage down to 62.5 and even effects minimum damage scaling for supers. Shadow's also have a damage penalty doing 20% less damage. Think it is only 10% in 2.0 but could be wrong.
Shadows basically give up a lot of stuff for shadow frenzy which is their main goal in every fight. Especially helps versus normal characters since awakening doesn't trigger till after the combos ends so if you can kill the last 35+% of their health they don't get to go into awakening.
Edit: Shadows do have bursts in 2.0 but also now need burst to use shadow frenzy. This change made shadows much better as most shadow characters were strictly inferior to normal ones since not having a burst sucked.
They also only gain a extra 1000 health instead of 2000 with two of the higher health characters getting 500. Shadow Frenzy cam no longer be bursted. They really up the whole trading durability for one shot potential
Some shadow characters were quite insanely good in 2.0 and it was part of the reason why the fambase was split on whether 2.0 was actually a good update or not.
They have several. Whether or not the pros are worth the cons depends on your character. Also keep in mind not every character has a shadow version

How common is persona breaking? Is it unavoidable in most matches for the chars with less cards?
Having more cards is both a pro and con. More cards means you are less likely to be persona broken in theory [persona reliant characters are more prone to danger of being broken though despite increased cards], but if a persons card high character gets broken they hurt the most. You can’t use persona until every card recharged again. More cards = more recharge time
But there are some characters that have recharge times they don’t match with how many cards they have. I’m pretty sure Margaret had like seven or eight cards but recharges like a four card character.
Characters with less cards tend not to care nearly as much about persona broke, it might be different in 2.0 since I haven't hopped on but when I played Akihiko I never had to take note of my persona cards unless I was about to use my sp.
My basic judgement is
"Can I stop my friend using Adachi from spamming maziodyne and not letting me get close?"
So I'm stuck with yukari, minazuki and aigis. Not choosing Yu cause it's easy to screw up

Half of these attacks I don't understand how to execute at all. The command list uses arcade stick icons and not normal buttons, I can't translate that :(
Unless you’re playing on pc, you can just go into training and memorise what is what. On PS3 the icons were coloured in the way of the controller, so red meant circle, green meant triangle, blue meant X and so on
There are two ways to pick a main.
You either pick the one with the playstyle you enjoy.
Or you pick your waifu.
after 3 reload & hopefully 4 remake dropping soon, this ll get some more more mileage

I'm still not sure what character to go for. I like zoning and long range the most, but I still feel a bit lost on who to try if I get the game. And I'm scared of all the inputs and such. I worry I won't be able to do them and waste my money buying the game. I want it, but 30$ is alot to blow on a game I end up not being able to play :(
I ended up buying due to the rollback announcement, even if its a few months from now. It's out on steam!

What really bugs me about this game is the buffering system, I'm missing just 1 trial with shadow Narukami but surprisingly I'm having troubles doing just 1 single super cancel on the right corner lol I'm hoping that in a few days i'll stop doing missinputs 😂😂
P5 is when I got into the Persona series. They have no one form P5. The only reason I picked this up was for the RPG Golden Arena mode. Can’t wait to get started. Just need to see which character I’d like. Thanks for this video.
