Finding a PS5 digital is often very difficult, Sony hates selling them as they lose way more money on those vs disc version. So basically it exists to save face, and for internet discussions like this one, rather than for actual consumer purchase. In the past people have mentioned trying this with generic 2230 m.2 which fit, but the console won't recognize the drives. People have speculated perhaps a series X drive would work? But you would have to remove that from a series X which makes no sense. I suspect the software is extremely strict and only those exact models are recognized. Anyway safe to say a 2TB model would likely not be recognized no matter the model. Kind of a huge shame.

It’s interesting. In South Africa, where I am, the Series S 1TB is still significantly cheaper than the PS5 digital to the point where it’s not worth having the conversation. Meanwhile, the Series X can be bought for PS5 digital money. And just to further compare, the 512GB Series S is roughly half the price of those two systems. Taking all that into account, I’m definitely getting the 1TB Series S once the holiday discounts kick in
Man, it looks really good and I'm super happy they increased to 1TB. It's just such a shame that should that SSD fail, you can't replace it and have to buy a new machine (if not under warranty).
I don't understand why they didn't put 1TB inside the first revision in the first place, I assume the 200GB is system space and some sort of a page file type thing I am thinking about a Series S for backwards compatibility for my older 360 titles, nice t see Cooper piping for the cooler and that nice big fan they clearly didn't want another RRoD situation again
I fixed my storage issue for my Series S long ago... I connected an old USB 3.0 external 1TB HDD I that lying around. I move games between the system storage as needed. Those optimized or can't be on an external simply stay not downloaded until I go back to them. You can (should) only play one game at a time (not withstanding quick resume)😅
I grabbed this system solely and only for Starfield. I feel like a $50 increase for twice the storage is not a bad deal. However I also had a lot of Amazon gift card cash to throw at it so it made it a lot less painful lol. I traded in my 2 Series S and a Switch Lite. Pretty much paid for itself. I’m sure it will drop to $299 at some point in a sale, but I couldn’t wait. I love it already
Before August I got a used series X for 370$ from GameStop ( trade in ). What I mean with before August is now they cost new 50$ more for the rest of the world . Meaning if you saved up a bit more you could have got a Series X for almost the same price 2 months ago maybe if you're American its still the same . Now you wont get a used Series X below 400$ beyond the US .IMO getting them used is a great deal since they exist not that long on the market . Is the storage married to the board or could it be expanded? Could you but a 2TB M.2 NVMe drive in there if you wanted to? I have a white Series S that I'd LOVE to upgrade the storage on if it's possible.... I assume it isn't since Microsoft decided to go with their own proprietary external storage option for expansion purposes...
You can't upgrade the internal storage. It's removable (unlike PS5) but it's tied to the motherboard. MS even said it's impossible to repair broken SSD on the Series consoles. There's a way to replace it but you'd need to clone your old SSD to the new one.
When this thing gets a holiday bundle with a game or 2, maybe some gamepass, and its advertised at 299... I would be interested in one, especially knowing the emulation capabilities
Yea it will hit $299 in a sale maybe this year or next year. I already got one, really awesome color and the larger storage makes this thing a no brainer.

I quite like the Series S conceptually. It's an affordable way to get into current gen gaming. The move to 1TB of base storage was also badly needed. But they should have discontinued the 512GB model and made this one $299. NVME storage has gone down a lot in price. At $350, being only $50 less than the PS5 Digital Edition, while offering less than half the performance, makes it a tough sell.
Less than half the performance? Are you joking dude lmao, that's not even remotely close. It games at 1440p 60fps just fine, the ps5 cannot play a single recent game in 4k 60fps, same with series x. They are not more than double the performance, whatsoever
You know, I was kinda dissapointed when xbox said they have no plans to do a pro model kinda console to compete with the rumored one from Sony. But now I wonder if theyre doing to set their releases at a different window from sony so it no longer directly competes with sonys? Like maybe in 3 years we'll see xbox put out another console gen entirely thats the best performing console on the market and then sony 3 years after that ect ect?
Yea this is definitely an opportunity for Xbox to hold out on releasing a Pro model and when the next generation hits, they could put out something that’s more powerful than the PS6. Or just offer a cheaper price tag for the same specs. It’s definitely interesting to see what they do.
If you are still waiting on Xbox to deliver 3 years from now, you are delusional… Microsoft is obviously pushing its console players to become Pc gamers or jump ship to Sony… once the ps5 pro comes out Xbox really won’t be able to compete…
It's the same price as a Switch OLED, so it's really not that expensive. I think the extra 150 goes a long way toward games and accessories. Personally, I don't need a 4K system and I'm not fond of using discs anymore, so a 1TB next gen system for this price is a steal.
The series S is a very good deal for gamers that don’t really care about 4K and all the FPS. For people who just simply want to play games and get achievements & knowing the fact, that game pass can be totally free when you use your Microsoft rewards points to pay for the service every month, it’s an unbeatable console, The black is also a very good look. I love the series X myself.
I enjoyed mine while it lasted (1 month free returns) but I am going back to PC instead. They just don't have any games that interest me... besides Starfield. And while SF can be played for long... I'd rather not do that with a controller that's too small for my hands. The KM adapter I bought costed a small fortune, tho it worked very well, I nearly forgot I was using a console. Then Gamepass wore off, and so did my curiosity. I think in the end it's all about the games selection for the platform. I really like the PS selection, but hey, they ARE coming to PC sooner or later too.
I think the PS5 Digital Edition is much better value for money wise. An extra $50 for far better performance is a no-brain if you're platform agnostic.

More storage is good, but a low price point of the white model might be better. I mean, how many games can you play at once? Especially if you’re only using Xbox Game Pass Ultimate 🤷🏽♂️
The $349 price would be more palatable if it were bundled with a game. I can see the MS Store giving away a free headset, controller, or game with purchase like they’ve done in past sales.
Oof that framerate in Starfield while going through that town. My PC Gamer eyes are bleeding. And before you say anything, I have a Series X in my game room and a Series S in my bedroom. I just wish Bethesda could have made a >30fps graphics mode...Maybe in a future patch.

I bought mine on impulse Christmas 2021 since I'd already gotten a ps5 and it was on the shelf at target. I never messed with xbox and my coworker and a few other people play online so I figured I'd grab it. I stopped paying for gamepass after a year in favor of ps5. Totally agree. My series S is my goto when I’m not on the Razer gaming laptop. It’s very very impressive.
Can't stand 30fps.
It's 900p upscaled to 1440p. Not close to 4K at all. But glad you are having fun.
@@Radek494what is the Series X at for this game? 🤔
@@MegaFinalRound 1440p upscaled to 4K
350 is pretty high... 50 more you have a PS5 digital. And 150 more you Have a Series X and PS5 disc with much more GPU power.
If it had a disc drive, the 350 would have been pretty good, especially when it comes to second hand game prices.
True but you also saved $50 or $150
@@jamestribie3387 50 isn't much of a saving. 150 either. You get system that play both Digital and Physical games. Its 4 vs 12 TF GPU, which is a massive difference for games. And the Series S doesn't always have a performance mode, while the Series X does 95% of the time.
Finding a PS5 digital is often very difficult, Sony hates selling them as they lose way more money on those vs disc version. It exists more to in theory persuade series S buyers to go to Sony, but in reality you never see it anywhere. So basically it exists to save face, and for internet discussions like this one, rather than for actual consumer purchase. You saw it a bit more at launch, these days it's very difficult, they want everyone to buy the $500 version.
@@no-barknoonan1335
Of course the Disc version is the better buy. Why'd you think they're releasing a new PS5 with an attachable disc drive?
The digital version is quite easy to find here. But the problem is, nobody buys them.
xScreen needs to make a black screen now.
I bought a series s a month ago. From what I've played so far it's been great. Fortnite, rocket League, MK11, GTAV etc have all looked great and ran perfect. Very pleased with it. And I read Forza will run at 1080p 60fps. That's good enough for me 👍
Thank makes two of us. Glad you’re enjoying it :)
That makes 3 of us. 0 complaints. Its my entertainment system FORSURE💯
This is a prime example why we should wait for a refresh model of launch consoles.
I’ve always been a fan of the slim model refreshes, this is a good one too
That Xbox looks really nice. Nice teardown vid.👍
Can you just toss a 2230 2tb in there and flash the OS? I really dont know, but it's weird to see you hold that storage drive so casually.
From what I’ve seen there’s something Microsoft did in the last year or so that blocks OS installation on a new drive
Kind of a huge shame.
feels like they should have dropped the 512 to 249 official, and bring the 1TB in at 300.
If it had a disc drive I'd buy it. I use my ONE X as a rockband machine, and it's pretty slow, lol. My series x loads up the songs and game too fast.
Yeah, I've never owned an Xbox system before but I'd genuinely consider getting that.
The S loads just as fast as the X, it's just FPS and resolution the X is better at.
It’s the SSD! Ya I wish there was an Xbox with disc drive that wasn’t as huge as the series X too
I have the white series S and I have the Xbox series. X. I wouldn’t mind buying one of these new ones just because it’s black the fact it has more memory is brilliant
Three Xboxes? Why?
@@masterchief5621why not? Came in handy for me. I had 2 Series S and traded them in for this new one. I wouldn’t mind getting another one when it hits $299 on sale. So small versatile. And I still have my Series X.
Now try having multiple PS5’s consoles. Oh no, those are too big and clunky, no thanks.
1:17 Damn, Halo isn't even on the back of the box anymore :(
Ha, the timestamp is 117. As close as we got to having chief in this frame 😓
MS is anti consumer
Oh really? Can you say the same for Series X? 🤔
I don't understand why they didn't put 1TB inside the first revision in the first place, I assume the 200GB is system space and some sort of a page file type thing
I am thinking about a Series S for backwards compatibility for my older 360 titles, nice t see Cooper piping for the cooler and that nice big fan they clearly didn't want another RRoD situation again
It was all about making a cheaper and more affordable option available.
Great video and tear down of this system! I’m personally not in the market for one-not at yet, at least.
Arrived to my doorstep this morning, I’ll be giving it a go later tonight when I’m finally off work!
I traded in my 2 Series S and a Switch Lite. Pretty much paid for itself. I’m sure it will drop to $299 at some point in a sale, but I couldn’t wait. I love it already
Series s is a beast
@@lpsoldi3ryou traded in 2 series s and a switch just to get a single series s? Wtf

And stores that sell 2nd hand have strict standards mostly .
Hoping for $100 black friday sale on the original Series S!
Maybe I'm crazy, but if Valve launched a Steam Machine (again) that was basically the same price and performance as the Series S, I would jump on that like crazy.
I wouldnt. Pc optimization has been bad man.. just get a steam deck then and then its at least portable 😂

I've had a Steam Deck and they're nice for what they are. But a Steam Machine with a bit more power would be a great entry point for some point to have a HTPC or something.
@@Patrick-y4d1z fair, i just feel like theres not really a place for low to mid end pcs rn. Its either go all in on a super computer because if you dont youll still get a better experience on series x or ps5. Unless you just want to play older games then yeah mid tier pc is the best option
Yea this how they should have released their steam machine. I would jump on it as well.

The great thing about Steam is that it's a storefront rather than a single machine, so you could have a Steam Machine and Steam Deck and your games and saves would be shared between the two.

No dice. Not yet anyway. But I did see the Seagate 512g expansion cards for $68 at Walmart yesterday.
Not expandable with your own m.2. Only with their storage cards.
You can't upgrade the internal storage. It's removable (unlike PS5) but it's tied to the motherboard. MS even said it's impossible to repair broken SSD on the Series consoles. There's a way to replace it but you'd need to clone your old SSD to the new one.
@ProtectusCZ i dont think you watch the video.
Spawnwave literally took out the storage card.
Its 1/3 of a regular card tho
@@CartoonWeasel it’s the same as in the previous models (just different number). It’s still software locked to MB.

If you see this… i love toast.
I got a WD 550 with max speed of 2,400MB/s on clearance. I think I got it before the PS5 released but never installed it because my PC has 2 gen 4 SSD's and only has 2 m.2 slots
hola men hay xbox series s que vienen con una tapa encima de las ram y otras series s que no tiene la tapa encima , a que se debe ?de que año es tu series s ?
New one?
Still dumb to buy one over a series x

Very interesting! I’ll be picking this up as a secondary mobile system.
Awesome! Hopefully they’ll provide me with one as well!
It's the same price as a Switch OLED, so it's really not that expensive. I think the extra 150 goes a long way toward games and accessories.
Personally, I don't need a 4K system and I'm not fond of using discs anymore, so a 1TB next gen system for this price is a steal.
But you get better performance
Back of box: chicks, car, cube guy.
DEI is strong 😂
Free return? Abused
I can see the $350 price going down to $300 in a Black Friday sale this year
If not $300 and a free $50 gift card
I think the PS5 Digital Edition is much better value for money wise. An extra $50 for far better performance is a no-brain if you're platform agnostic.

Series X has more power and plays games at higher resolutions. Series S does not play games at native 4k.
@@HunterAtheist Neither does Series X in many games. It uses dynamic resolution and upscaling instead of native 4k.
@@ryleybenson1009 There are games that are 4k native and there are ones that aren't.
There is also dynamic resolution and checkerboarding, but the fact is that the Series S has to make more compromises. Trust me. I know. I have both consoles.

The $349 price would be more palatable if it were bundled with a game. I can see the MS Store giving away a free headset, controller, or game with purchase like they’ve done in past sales.

I have a launch series s .. I want to upgrade at some point... But in all honesty I might just get the digital ps5
I'm thinking about getting one for the house, but if Microsoft is being consistent with their past, theyll be another revision of the Series S with a stronger graphics card and more system memory.
I bought mine on impulse Christmas 2021 since I'd already gotten a ps5 and it was on the shelf at target. I never messed with xbox and my coworker and a few other people play online so I figured I'd grab it.
I stopped paying for gamepass after a year in favor of ps5.
Still use the Xbox series s and there's a ton of stuff for free on it, a bunch of couch co-op games. Few games I purchased on special with game pass.
It wasn't bad for the price then but now if you can hold out for it to go cheaper would be good. But it's a great value if you want to have one at home to game some

$420 vs $570 for X where I live. Older white S with 512GB is $320 and 1TB ssd upgrade isn't that expensive.
While storage was certainly an issue isn't the biggest compatibility problem the RAM? They really needed to double the Game RAM to give it parity with the Series X (bump to 16GB instead of 8GB). While I'm sure RAM costs it would probably be less than the SDD upgrade. Just an opinion and some thoughts. Take care all.
Well said.
VRAM. Wtf is game ram
