Can I use my external drive from the original Xbox One to the Series S? If so I'll just get the S. It'll be like having a $300 console with 2.5 tb storage. Graphics are good but not worth the extra $200 for the X.
The Xbox One S actually had a hard drive, not an SSD. I know you meant "Series S", of course haha. It's pretty hilarious that their names are so bad that nobody is realizing... even Linus ( 1:00 ) said it and seemingly nobody noticed LOL.

The S is surprisingly good. It's all I am going to say. There's a 60fps patch for Valhalla. Morrtal Kombat 11 runs surprisingly well and in frame (60fps). Be willing to manage the smaller SSD space with a set of games at a time and you will be set.
It’s a no out the same sort of ratio for ps5 or almost. I do prefer PlayStation in general but they don’t exist. But you can see 60fps options for the S running about 1080p usually. Morta Kombat 11 is like a best case. Runs 60fps solid and near 4K
@@optionselleck2860 that’s not quite true. There’s been older fighting games running at 30fps (soul blade on ps1 for example). Got the Series S, first console ive bought for myself, had it for almost a year now. Pretty solid buy. Used it to play a bunch of games thats on the game pass, now I mostly use it as a media box, until new stuff comes out.
👍👍 This video should help ease people's minds a bit more to buy the budget friendly option. It's still a brilliant choice, you'll have access to all the new gen games and features. Plus most people won't even notice a change at all once they adjust to it anyways. If I wasn't sold on the S before I am now.

I got the S. I am so happy with it. It's just such a good deal and the games run like a charm. Do note I am coming from PC gaming and I am pretty picky, but so far Xbox S was a bliss. And the fact that it's so small and portable is so great for bringing it to your friends/relatives house etc. It's lovely. And for the small storage - just buy a 40 EUR external storage and you're set. YES, not all games can be run from HDD. There's a way to check whether the game demands to be run from the internal SSD or will it run from HDD, and most games do. So, I just download the games that can run from HDD to the HDD, while use the SSD for the rest.

@Gregory5331 Yeah...no. Series s is ideal for 3rd world countries where games and PCs are extremely expensive. Either wait for PS5 or build a PC if you have the cash.
Actually that's not entirely true. Many PC gamers still run 1080p on high settings as it's way more affordable to do so. For the average gamer the XS is a effing steal at its price point. And for those who are on a budget still rocking a 1080p or 720p TV you'll never miss not having true 4K. My plasmas keep me occupied til OLED hit that right price in the next year or so, enjoy.
@@duiwithc4corvette403 investing the extra to get the PC, (2x 3x 4x) is worth it IF you have the cash regardless if you are a 1080p gamer. Xbox wont get you nowhere near as many games. Xbox is not so cheap if you are a harcore gamer wanting to play a lot of games. GamePass wont solve all your issues. But I understand the appeal. In Turkey where consoles are 1000$ certainly makes it easier to just save the extra for PC.Add the significant income and fiat differences, building a PC in US even with the elevated scalper prices is extremely cheap compared to 3rd world countries. It takes so long to save enough money here. Value the opportunities and prices you have :)
Series X does something magic. I ran the first Assassin's Creed title, 2008, transferred to x360 around 2010. The game looks astonishing even for being 14 years old. It has also been proven here in this video that Series X does somehow improve the graphics.

Honestly, you'd have been better off going used market at that point. Can find some cheap ass Radeon (R9 280X, 7970 etc.) cards, assuming you're in a country with a decent used marketplace anyway.
The Series S is primarily for gamers like myself that are on a 10 year old 1080p TV and don't intend to upgrade anytime soon. It is designed to play optimally on that (or 1440p) resolution with upscaling to 4K an additional feature. The faster loading time and low input latency are the winners for me and why I will soon upgrade from my One S.
@@Knights_of_the_Nine for you maybe. Form me living in South Africa, gaming is a luxury. I have much more important things to spend my money on than buying a new TV while my old one is still perfectly fine. A 4K TV won't make me a better gamer ;-)
@Cantdothis212 Because it has clear benefits specifically for the games that I play. The main game that I play, Pinball FX3, clearly put users with the least amount of input lag at an advantage. That is one clear area where the Xbox Series is vastly improved on the Xbox One. The cost of the S is cheap for what you get and low enough that I don't have to go too much out of my way to buy it if I e.g. sell my Xbox One S. Buying an X will just be pointless for me at this stage. I will not be able to make use of it unless I buy a much more expensive TV that have HDMI 2.1 input. That is just not viable for me or at all a priority.

One thing I'm disappointed Linus didn't say is that both series Xboxes s/x can use USB storage at launch it was iffy on what Titles would be USB playable but even then it was quick to shift games back and forth as alot if games would come close to 100gb and the 512gb (realistically 300gb after os and provisioning) ssd only gave you five games with it space, but shifting games to my external and back again was typically minutes and I could play other titles while data was transferred . Now after several patches alot more games will play off USB (sorry no definitive list) even games that demanded internal storage will now run off USB (I'm not saying every game will but both cyberpunk and avengers demanded to be on the internal on my system and recently for some reason started working off the external). Usually Linus is so thorough and tries some extra out of the box stuff in his review it felt odd he's absolutely right 200 for double the storage she a blu ray drive is a pretty decent deal But some of us have a blu ray player or don't even use blu rays so the only really advantage left was storage so I was surprised he didn't do a thing on how games load off USB (comparative loading times) how long transfers take to provide on what you really give up by getting the s. I'm also suprised that no review I've seen even Linus hasn't talked about upscaling as most 4k tvs have done sorry of upscaler for non 4 k sources. Does a good upscaler help out the series s. Does the x benefit from a upscaler etc. Just my 2 cents overall a great review
Yeah, I was kind of hoping he was going to bring this stuff up. I have an 8tb HDD and wanted to know the performance differences sense It will be a while before I get a card. I know for some people every second and graphics matter, but for me, it does not. I just want a cheap way to play next-gen games sense we are now getting to the point that developers are cutting last generation support.
7:20 something tells me Linus isn’t aware that doom eternal didnt receive next gen updates yet (even a month and a half later as of writing this). What Linus is seeing on series s here is the Xbox ONE version, NOT one made for series s, so if you want to play doom eternal now on your series s then good luck, but if you wait a little bit your results will likely be very different
Yeah I feel that is really important to point out. Unless it has been specifically optimized for the series s, it is running the one s version. I’m surprised they didn’t know that and compare games that were actually optimized.
UPDATE: As of today (6/29/2021) Doom eternal has in fact received series s/x optimizations! What does this mean for you? If youre looking at a Series S: It is much different! 1080p120 or 1440p60, making this game look much better and/or run much smoother. If youre looking at Series X: not much has changed for you, although now you can check out Doom Eternal with raytracing!
I got the S because it was cheeper and I didn’t mind the quality as much as other people. I like the s, but all my 360 and one discs aren’t just magically going away because it’s cheaper I should edit my first console was the launch day one, up to that point I only had the Nintendo ds and gameboy so I went back and bought 360 titles that had great reputation and played them on my one, which technically is my “family” Xbox so yeah being off at college I’d like a way to play all my games
Finaly I found someone in the comments who has disc too. I was thinking the same, series S would be enough for me, but I need a way to play my old games so series S is a no no. Thanks Microsoft
Can't agree more. To my the S is for someone that wants a few games on it to play COD, Fornite and so on that aren't going to buy tons or that wants a few on Gamepass/or as a second console even if for the cheap price, but us Disk users need the more expensive ones to keep using our older (4 generation of Xbox games) and newer games on them. And I'm not selling them for a digital code either. Though as I have no Original Xbox, 2 360 (1 with Internet, 1 without), and a One/One X I think it's clear what I've using my Original Xbox and 360 games on. Testing what the old can do is cool still and using it for new is important/giving it the proper use, but yeah otherwise the lists just aren't worth it if you have the older consoles or certain games you can't (cough and the Xbox Original on Xbox One list is just not worth it to me compared to the 360's BC, it's good and has a few on there I want but not enough to count it worth while compared to the few 360 I tried on the One). And as I've just started collecting for Original Xbox now the ones I wanted like Project Gotham Racing 1 & 2 aren't on Xbox One's list so no point in moving forward for them, so the 360s will do.
I had the same thought process for a bit, until I actually looked at my gaming collection for the 360 (skipped MS last gen). I was REALLY into Capcom and fighting games back then so those were all physical. My two sticks wouldn't work on the S or the X, so I'm still stuck with that system for those games. I have the best luck when it comes to gaming (your screen should be sticky from the sarcasm oozing from those words). Almost 75% of the other games I bought physical were later released a free games on Gold back when they actually let you keep the games. Fast forward to 12AM on the 11th, when I finally get home and get to open the Series S I was able to get from Walmart. I have 34 games available in my library, $15 in a my Live account that has to have been sitting there for 6+ years, and the offer for Game Pass Ultimate for $1. After using the offer (and finding out I also have enough Bing Rewards points for 3 more months) to fill in the blanks, out of my entire library I'm missing Lost Odyssey and some random OG Xbox games I was given when I first got the 360 and needed something to play. All in all, I'm very satisfied with what I got. I gave up a disc drive and some extra power under the hood for $200. 800GB wasn't going to be enough for my BC library, so I still would have needed to get extra storage even if I bought the Series X. My 4K TV can't do 120HZ, but I have a great 1080P projector. Now, had I been planning to upgrade either of those in the next few years, I probably would have bought a Series X.... A year from now.
I think that we should just wait for a few more months or maybe a year for the next version of these consoles. See the difference between the OG Xbox One and the final One X?
When developers begin to concentrate more fully on the X rather than splitting resources between that and the S I wonder if the differences in performance will be greater.
Not really the only reason someone would get the series x is to get the bet of the best they focus more on the Sirius s because the series s is a long term console that over time it will get better with updates

Just remember that with the series s the difference isn't going to be as big with the two consoles, because most people will be playing the s on much smaller screens at 1080 to 1440 not on 4k screens, thats what the x is for. The difference isn't going to be as big because Linus is playing on an amazing TV.
i dont think a lot of gamers buy the series x for higher resolution, the series x provides a more stable framerate and more dev support, it is sad but the series x seems more future proof
I am actually used to play on the Wii that I don't care about how good image quality looks, but how good the games are and how much you enjoy them, and that is why I am sticking with the series S Which is also my first Xbox.
I saw a comment somewhere from a kid who liked it because it was easily transportable in a backpack, which is a great point for people on the move a lot.
It would be nice if you would have clarified whether you were running the games in Performance or Quality mode because most games have the ability to switch between the two. The difference obviously comes down to their target framerates. Most games (Especially Doom Eternal) will target 120fps with a sacrifice in visual quality in Performance mode and target 60fps with better visuals in Quality mode.
@@SSenderling currently on the series s doom eternal runs at either 1440p 60fps or 1080p with lowered visuals at 120fps, linus was shitting on it when he was playing the xbox one version which was made for 2013 hardware lol.

I like the s, but all my 360 and one discs aren’t just magically going away because it’s cheaper
I should edit my first console was the launch day one, up to that point I only had the Nintendo ds and gameboy so I went back and bought 360 titles that had great reputation and played them on my one, which technically is my “family” Xbox so yeah being off at college I’d like a way to play all my games
I wouldn't be surprised if there will probably be a disc drive accessory

Yep. It's funny Linus or his team wouldn't know that key information. 🤷♀️🤷♂️
Yup Doom runs at 900p for Series S with default X1 backwards compatibility. This was a poor review to sell LG TVs. Like someone who could afford an OLED would then buy the cheapest Xbox around.
Every other review I've seen mentions this, even guys with like 1000 subs. Meanwhile big ol Linus is playing 900p "vcr" xbox one games on a series X and complaing about the graphics😔

@yt 1234 - I would go with the Series S. You already have a PC and PS5. Save yourself the money and buy the Series S.
The problem with comparing games like Doom Eternal is that you're actually playing the Xbox One X or Xbox One S versions of the games. So the Series S is playing a version developed for 1.4tflops

- All PCs can run HDR (that is a monitor or TV feature, not a console or PC feature)...
- Digital Foundry just tested a couple of games on the XseriesX and none ran native 4k/ 60fps, all the games available now are either "Dynamic 4k" (which is not 4k native), 4k native "30fps", RayTracing (at lowest than PC lowest settings 😅) and it ran at sub 30fps not even locked. And performance 120hz mode, and the PS5 took it to the XseriesX and it didn't even had a locked 120fps, at sub 4k (not 4k)...
- Digital Foundry had the 2060super vs the XseriesX and the 2060super was much stronger at actual 4k native, at better RayTracing quality, and above 30fps, at higher settings than the XseriesX. So that means that the XseriesX is on par with a 2060...
So in conclusion if you want a better experience and real 4k/ 60fps or 120fps locked you are better off with a PC with a 2060 (which can be found "if you look around" for around $200 to $250) get a decent CPU at around $100 to $150 would do just fine, and the rest can be bought cheaply, it will not have performance issues, ram, power supply, motherboard, and case!
