    I think you’d be well served to already create a shimming guide for this lens specifically. If done well I’d see it as a go to resource for those who purchase or rent this lens. In addition to it being a gateway into the wider world of CVP for those who weren’t aware of you before. I particularly liked the succinct explanation and demonstration of how to deal with an unexpected error when switching mounts.

      Noted, will try make it lens agnostic so people can take the principles and apply it to any lens/camera that can be shimmed! Thanks for the feedback and watching, Jake

      @@CVPTV Most of us coming here for a budget cine option will have noticed the monstrous amounts of CA at 6:54 and so on and then discounted this lens. However, looking at this video: ruclips.net/video/INWCRBIKZSU/видео.html I don't see the same issue, nor is it present in the ND-free chart tests in this video, which leads me to think that the Revoring ND used could be responsible. If so it would be great if you guys could make some creative tests without this ND, just to be sure.

    Let us know what you think of the Catta Zooms in the comments.
    DZOFILM have confirmed that PL & EF versions of the CATTA will be coming in 2022, wish they had told us this before producing the vid.
    I also should have focused more on the chromatic aberration in the creative examples. For some reason our Resolve didn't force to the highest debayer on the render so some of the fringing that is present in the rendered footage is gone when using full res premium. Jake

    Even though it's kind of an awkward focal range and the chromatic abberations are a bit too heavy for my taste, I do like the Catta. There aren't a lot of options in terms of full-frame zooms (yet), and if a quicker workflow is more important than an absolute high-end image, this seems like a promising choice.

    • @finch-island
      @finch-island 2 года назад +1

      Agreed. It's always nice to have options but the color fringing, even in central areas of the image, is pretty hardcore. Bummer. Not a lens for me...

    • @jonathanhouser6310

      Not sure why they shot though a cheap variable ND. Not sure if that CA was from the Lens or the ND.

    •  2 года назад +1

      yeah, the colour-fringing/CA was neon green in those outdoor shots, really distracting and enough to take this lens off my list, pretty sad really.

    • @philippscheithauer
      @philippscheithauer 2 года назад +1

      The shots at 6:54 with the electric lines in the sky and the harsh CA at the face at 7:16 broke the deal for me. Had to look twice to make sure it was no weird color grading but poor lens performance. Not the lens I would pair a 25k raptor with

    •  2 года назад

      @@philippscheithauer Yeah that shot at 6:54 was the real eye opener. If it IS as someone has suggested, possible an artefact of a variable ND then it'd be worth knowing, as this is a product-breaking issue if not.

    Agreed with the other comments, a shim tutorial would be helpful. The concept is a little daunting for me, and is one of the main reasons I've shied away from DZO Films Pictor lenses and opted to go for the slightly more expensive but ready-to-go-out-the-box Tokina ATX zooms.

It's still better to rent an Angie 10-1 or a Cooke than own a 35-85. The OOOM 25-100 was close to the ideal zoom range of 20-100 but no cigar. And I do want those ideal cuban cigars.

    Great video as always! I'm curious, what is your opinion on the overall look and image from the Catta Zooms vs the Pictor Zooms. I was pretty set on the Pictor zooms for my Komodo but the 35-80 focal range of the Catta seems a bit more useful to me.

  • @galenyeo46

    We own these and have found an issue - the mount is not very strong. The E-mount attachment actually came off while removing the lens from the camera and couldn't be easily replaced because of the threading which shifted and the tricky locking system. Not ideal. The plastic holder around the mount also doesn't look too durable. Image quality is great but the implementation of the mount needs work. I can't see how this is going to last with multiple shoots. #DZO please provide a better solution.

  • @gr_winnett

    One question i haven't seen anyone talking about yet, is how does the build quality feel with the lightweight polycarb body? Is it much of a downgrade from a full metal lens barrel like on the pictors? Or does it seem sturdy enough to not make a difference? Espescially in a high use rental environment.

    I'm a little confused. As said in this video, this lens suits the Red V-Raptor very well, but if I'm correctly the image circle of the Catta Zoom is 43.5mm while the sensor of the V-Raptor has a diagonal of 46.31mm so I am expecting a vignette? As I understand DZOFilm has this in check with their Catta ACE which has an image circle of 46.5mm but that ons doesn't come with an RF or E mount, only with PL or EF mount so an adapter would be required. Would you recommend the Catta zoom or Catta ACE for the red V-raptor? Thanks in advance!

      Hey Pieterjan, they both cover V-RAPTOR well. We actually show how it covers full 8K on the V-RAPTOR at 6:10. The ACE's are built better than the regular CATTA, PL is more versatile if you want to put it onto other cameras but RF native will reduce the chances of running into the sensor split issue.
