I got mauled on my face by a dog when I was a teenager by a neighbours dog, ripped my bottom lip nearly off, 32 stitches to stick it back on. He also sliced my cheek like it was a knife, a proper long scar. I also had a terrier that bit my other cheek when I was a child, he was our dog, I was rough housing with him, I still have no fear of dogs, I know now that if one attacks then I'm going to win that fight.

But seriously, it sounds like your problem was putting your face too close to a dog's face that isn't comfortable enough with you. Hold long have you had the terrier when that happened? The only reason they would do that is if they feel threatened.

At 7 years old, half of my left ear was removed by a dog. At 12 years old, I got bit on my left side by a dog. At 14 years old, both of my hands were mauled by sibling dogs at the same time. At 17 years old I was bit in my right side by a dog. It happens sometimes. Looking back, it was probably my fault in most if not all cases. It's been over 20 years since I've been bit by a dog. Dogs have always been my favorite animal. I absolutely love them.

I've had lots of dogs in my 64 years, including Pitbulls, Dobermans, and German Shepards. I now have my first Dogo Argentino, and he is possibly the best dog I have ever had. He is smart, protective, loving, and easygoing. He is 5 years old now, and he is by far the best dog in the house I've ever owned. He never chews, gets into things, or soils the floor. He is also one hell of a specimen physically. He is 29 inches at the shoulder and weighs 155 pounds. He definitely gets some attention when we go out.

I had a male Dogo Argentino that I "rescued" from some people that thought it was just a big pitbull... Got him when he was about 9months old, and had him until he died of cancer at 12yrs old.
He was hands down the best dog I have ever had, but he was a lot of work. He loved me so unconditionally that it was painful. Any time he thought he had upset me or 'been bad' you could just see the heartbreak in his eyes. If he thought jumping off a cliff would please me, he wouldn't have hesitated.
BUT, he had to be trained a lot, and like they said, he had to always understand that I was the boss. This didn't require domination or punishment, it just required that I make rules that he had to live by and ALWAYS make sure he followed the rules. Allowing any leniency would only open for him to test the limits on everything else. This breed may be a lot of things, but dumb is NOT one of them.
    That being said.
Living with him also required different rules. This is not a dog breed for people who are not ready, competent, or committed to the breed.
    for example...
-I had to train him not to bite too hard, when playing or 'rough-housing' - He had to learn what was a play bite and what wasn't. That involved a lot of scratches....
-He had to learn to instantly respond when I called him, no matter what he was doing, even at full run.
-Men could NOT walk into my house without me being present. Even one walking to close to the house would put him on high alert. However, once he knew that I accepted them, he was their best friend and would try to sit in their lap the entire time they were visiting.
-He never went outside the house, unless on a leash or in a fenced yard with high fences. He wasn't aggressive to other dogs, in fact he lived happily with my male APBT for his entire life, BUT wouldn't back down from a fight.
-If another dog wanted to be friends he was 100% onboard with that... BUT if another dog wanted to fight he was 100% onboard for that too.
-In the same vein, he wouldn't go after people while out for walks or outside, and would almost always be friendly right away.... as long as I was... or as long as he didnt feel threatened. His fear response was NOT to tuck tail and run.
All in all, He was a handful and required a lot of work and a lot of monitoring, but at the same time his absolute love and commitment was awe-inspiring and will be missed. It's been 6 years since he died, and I have just recently been ready to have another dog.

Everything you said, I also convinced myself of a Dogo Argentino, which was my friend's dog. He got along great with dogs, and even better with people. Which man accepted, then, when I and my wife would come to his house, he would immediately come to caress my wife.
My friend made a HUGE MISTAKE and BOUGHT a puppy ALABAI...DOGO ARGENTINO played with him until he was 11 months old ALABAI, then ALABAI attacked DOGO ARGENTINO, the fight ended, so DA ended up at the vet.
Then DA weight 40 kg (90 pounds) height 65 cm (26 inches), ALABAI weight 68 kg (150 pounds), height 73 cm (29 inches)

My wife and I went on vacation and normally we would bring our dog with us but we couldn't this time so I had my sister come over to house/dog sit for me. It turned into an absolute nightmare. Axe already knew my sister but she'd never really been alone with him. She started trying to give him commands and take him for walks and stuff like that and he turned into a totally different dog. He just didn't care anymore. He didn't feel like he needed to be on his best behaviour because I wasn't there and he felt like he was the boss over her. I eventually had to get my cousin to take over for her because she was too scared to be around him. I learned a valuable lesson back then about socialisation and training your dogs to listen to commands that come from everyone in your family.

My Dogo is honestly the best dog I've ever had. Definitely a bit hard headed, but if raised correctly they are rather calm. Unless ofc an intruder or stranger is present. Youd be surprised how gentle and loving they are to their owners and close family members. They are renowned for their attachment to children. Overall my boy sleeps, eats, sleeps, exercises, sleeps, eats. I always mention that they have a switch. one moment theyre sleeping calmly, the next hes running for 3 miles no sweat, gassing my ass out lmao

    • @brannanburdette2558
      @brannanburdette2558 4 года назад +24

Anon Smith I use to boar hunt. We used Cur dogs to chase the hogs down sometimes for miles until they’d bay the boar up in a water hole or corner it, then we’d catch up with pitbulls to turn loose on boar to catch it and hold it, then we’d run in and tie the boar up and bring them out of the swamps and marshlands alive. We would take them to my buddy’s house where he had a hog catch once a month. At the hog catch people would come from all around. They bring their own pit bulls. We turn loose a big ol 300 plus pound boar in a fenced in area, roughly 50’x20’, the dog owner would release his/her pitbull and the pitbull would run at boar full speed and bite boar any where on its body and hold on for minimum of 3 seconds. Fastest time wins. My other buddy brought his huge 2 year old pitbull one night and turned him loose, the dog ran at the boar full speed, and the boar was charging straight at the dog, then the dog lunges at the hog at full speed and the hog does a super fast spin move 180* to turn & run, and as the dog hits the hog to bite him of course the hogs nuts are right in the dogs face so BOOM BAM OH SHIT, the pitbull latches hold to that huge boars nuts and starts to shake while holding on. That hog let out the biggest squeal I ever heard in my life. Dog had one nut in his mouth and hogs other nut was dragging behind him as he run around the cage. We separated them and ended up killing the hog the next day as they’ll become more docile without their nuts and for those hog catches we want them wild and crazy as can be. It’s illegal now a days for these hog catches over in Mississippi/Louisiana where we use to do them. But I think they still have them going on in Alabama. Not sure but you can watch some bad ass videos online of those hog catches. I’ve seen some hogs destroy dogs. And I’ve seen dogs take down some of the biggest wild boars 🐗 you’ve ever seen. Those cur dogs and pitbulls were breed for it and they DO NOT give up.

OnePiece101 yeah bud. I know. We didn’t just catch one hog. We caught hundreds and hundreds of them that way for years. It was to supply the hog catches we had on the weekend once a month. We never lost one dog. We did it for years. Our dogs had cut vests on to prevent for getting major blood veins cut. Our dogs could throw down to. They were the best dogs I’ve ever seen. I had other buddies from other states that wouldn’t use cut vests and they lost several dogs that way. But they were dumb asses and obviously didn’t care about their dogs. We did this for the money in a hog catch. I’d only make $300 on a weekend but my boss who pretty much owned everything would make about $7,500 in one weekend out of the month. The entire hog catch would bring in around $15k to $20k but he had to pay everyone and feed animals, etc...

He’s not huge, but at 130 lbs of solid mussel and balls the size of plums I definitely don’t ever want to see him get angry. Overall he’s very friendly, but aggressively friendly knocks older people and kids down and just doesn’t seem to realize how strong he is. A friendly paw while playing can and usually does result in nasty sometimes bloody gouges.

I have two intact males, and a female. We hunt wild hogs, protection train, formal obedience work and they are my running partners. I say this as a warning to people who want to get a working breed because they think that it will be cool to own and have no intentions of working it. Don't get a working breed unless you are going to work it, thats the point of breeding working dogs, it is like having a Ferrari out in your garage and never driving it. Stick with a station wagon type dog that does not need anything but food, water and a nice comfortable couch. A dogo will never truly be happy unless it is able to satisfy it's primal drives. These dogs are bred specifically to hunt and catch large dangerous game animals. When many "pet people" get these type dogs, it starts to hit sexual maturity they very quickly realize they are in way over their heads and the dog pays for it in the end, put to sleep, ends up in a shelter or passed off to someone else that doesn't have a clue how to deal with them. Their stunning looks will be their downfall.

I have two Dogo Argentinos, and they are by far the best dogs I have ever owned!
From my experience with the breed, Dogos learn commands easily, but are very strong willed and intelligent, so if you are the type of dog owner that sometimes allows bad behavior to slide, or doesn't always demand follow through on commands when they are being stubborn, I do not recommend getting one.... They will constantly test you and try to push boundaries, so this requires a strong leader to keep them in check at all times for the rest of their lives to maintain their training and good behavior.
I let my Dogos sleep on the bed, but everything I allow them to do is on my terms, not theirs, including only giving them treats if they work for it.
I learned very quickly that inconsistent control, or letting the Dogos do whatever they want from time to time started increasing incidents of disrespectful behavior, which is just too much when dealing with such a powerful breed!
They are loyal, loving dogs who are naturally great with children, but It is still extremely important to socialize them with other people and especially dogs because they are a very protective guardian/hunting breed

@ 1:25 We had a Cop that lived a few houses down from us growing up. She had a German Shepherd Police Dog. Whenever we would walk pass the house it would bark and jump. It could easily clear the fence. So we would stomp at it to tease it so it would hop the fence and chase us. We had a route mapped out for when it did. The plan was to run to the corner, which was about half a block down (6 houses), turn and hop a taller fence as soon as we made the turn. We got it to chase us a few times and we always got away. Of course we had a nice head start but as soon as we hopped the fence it would bark a few times and go back home. Eventually the dog started to ignore us and would just lay there when we teased it. It got to the point where we could walk up to the fence and it would just lay there looking at us like idiots. Fun times
