There is a great book called "Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion" which talks a lot how people who are in power, and surrounded by people who cater to their needs and whims, lose a total sense of reality. Specifically the book talks a lot about religious leaders and how their environment and surroundings lead to them becoming depraved. But the same principles apply to the rich and powerful. A fascinating read.
