This performance has withstood the test of time. this ranks as one of the most memorable performances of all time in my mind. One of the tightest company fronts I’ve ever seen.
YIKES!! Bass 6... I mean.. HOLY CRAP THAT THING IS HUGE!! If you pause at 3:06, you can see the edge of his drum is on the yardline and the drummer himself is SPLITTING the yardlines! How big WAS that beast? And I can only imagine the back troubles that poor bastard must be still suffering to this day!
Is the finale tossing of the streamers the reason why fans used to throw streamers when phantom closed out their shows? I always wondered and now I may see why. This was great!
Soapbox rant: this composition is about the Russians defeating Napoleon at the battle of Borodino. This has nothing to do with American history, much less a patriotic song for the 4th of July.
@Wells306 And KFC has nothing to do with Christmas, but all of Japan eats the stuff every Christmas. Sometimes traditions are just born, and, bizarre as they are, they stick. And Arthur Fiedler of the Boston Pops, way back in 1974, decided to use this piece because it would be impressive with the fireworks going off at the end. And a tradition was born. Relax; keep your undershirt on.
My ageout performance. I still get emotional watching this show. We had a great group of people on the field that night.
What did you guys do for that ribbon stuff at the end?
It was a long streamer that was weighted at the tip with a small rock. The other end was tied to the bottom of our pockets.
I saw this show. It was incredible.

Beautifully classic, thanks DCI for keeping our memories alive.

40 inches !
This was INCREDIBLE to hear live.
I remember seeing this show in Sevierville, Tennessee.
I love almost every arrangement of the 1812 Overture.
It was amazing in the movie It's A Disaster.
I had the privilege of seeing this a couple times that season. Thanks for the wonderful memories.
I WISH PHANTOM WOULD BRING BACK THE CAPES NOW AND THEN THOSE CAPES WERE SO COOL
Fabulous, truly! Thank you for posting this from back in the day.
Still one of the best guards in the land!!!
This was fun to watch! Thanks DCI for sharing. I was 8 months old when this show was marched! Drumline was fantastic. Can’t go wrong with 1812!
Thanks for the wonderful flashback - I conducted the 1812 decades ago as a college DM and just now couldn’t resist exercising my arms a bit. 🤣🤷🏻♀️🤓
The Vanguard ( IL ) played a excellent version of this. ( 1968 ? 69 ? ) Go Kenosha Kingsmen
I remember Garfield Cadets' members singing "I march in Phantom 'cause I like straight lines, I march in Phantom 'cause I like straight lines."
In 92 it was “I march with Phantom cuz I like 8th place.”
I've heard "I'm marching Phantom cause I can't play jazz."
Fantastique
*um show que deixou saudades em 2020, esperamos que tudo volte ao normal logo* ❤👏👏👏👏

Yes that’s exactly why
I always have loved Phantom's red cape....er shoulder cape.
OOH THE LIBERTY BELL NEVER SOUNDED ANY BETTER
THATS DRUM CORPS !

Most of us know this. It kills me that this is one of the pieces that is played on or close to July 4th. I love the piece and Phantom show though.
Ok.

Color guard using hijab?
Yes. Back in 1983. Just to piss you off.
