I can tell that you're Canadian. Not by your "accent", but because you are crawling around, under your truck, in the snow, to show us what you did to your awesome truck😄. Great job on the truck and the great videos that you make for us.
Howdy from Alberta! Thank you for the in depth videos! They inspire me to do the swap on my 2001 explorer, the driveline is identical aside from the fact that my SOHC isn't supercharged.
Thanks Yes I can… it’s pretty simple, just a few pieces off Amazon but I’ll try to lay it out. I have a bunch of other stuff to do till May… then I’ll walk you though it. Give me some time to make sure everything is working right. 😁
😂 I’m afraid not I love my supercharger. I will be going more boost though. I’ll see if I can film a buddy when he does his 5.0 swap. TDI just seems to expensive for what you get, but I’ve never driven or seen one live so I could be swayed quite easily
I've been watching this cause I have a Ranger that I'm planning a SAS on. My is not supercharged but it is V8 powered. I'm planning on the Ford 8.8 rear and a Dana 44 front from a Jeep wagoneer. I am however planning a leaf front. Love the truck, love it's stance.
Thanks! You will have a nice truck there. I really thought about leafs but couldn’t figure out a way to keep it low…. Other then spring under. There is a really neat contraption called a slider box that replaces the shackles. That’s what I was going to install. Keep me posted… link a video when you do it I’d love to see it 👍
LOVE THIS! thanks for the great video, and for the parts! Love the way the ruck sits. I'm curious why you took out the ABS. Also, I would love to see a video of how you did the custom exhaust. even though you already did it...
Thanks Good question… I should have mentioned in the video the axles I used were from a 1979 F150 so no ABS wheel speed sensors. The ABS module was just dead without those anyways so I wanted to use the spot for my diff vents. Hope that makes sense
Hey the washers on your radius are bushings on incorrect. They should cup the bushing not curve away. Helps keep the bushing from splitting. Great build.
Cool build. Any hassle from insurance or registries about the changes like deleting the ABS? My insurance here in Alberta only gave me liability on my F250 after I pulled the dead 460 and dropped in a 7.3 since they now consider it to be "modified with performance upgrades." I'm building a Ranger right now, little different direction than yours. For my steering support, I got a firewall swivel bearing and mounted it to a plate that bolts in with the firewall boot, then just a single cardan 3/4" D-D u-joint to a modified Ranger lower telescoping section. I also used the pre-98 steering shaft and boot instead of the one for the rack.
Thanks! No problem right now I’m already registered in my name I’m not sure if I was to sell it, but no plans to do that. I’ve also only got liability on it but I think if I was to go the route of full insurance I’d probably get it appraised and then insure it for that amount? That sounds like a good idea for steering shaft support. When I built my 49 ford that’s what I did through the firewall support/bearing. Let me know how it turns out. Better yet post a video on RUclips we need more Ranger content on here! 😁
Came out great! I did a 2WD to 4x4 conversion on my Ranger a few years ago and now I’ve been thinking about doing a SAS next, so thanks for all the information! How much would you say the build roughly cost?
Thanks! Well you definitely have the skills then! Cost about 3200$ Canadian in parts but I bought my axles for 200$ and I swapped my old tires for these ones, rims for 50$ etc. the most expensive was rebuilding the axles with limited slip and the DOM tubing because I think I got ripped off locally. 😬
Here’s an update to the kit I used. I’ll throw it in with the other parts amzn.to/3Id4pLB Yeah you got it. The 1979 axles I put in didn’t have speed sensors, so no abs.
On the Dana 44 I heard of some doing it… I believe someone makes a kit. Maybe if a 8.8 out of an f-150 was used along with a kit for the front. I’m sure it’s doable 👍
I’ve seen them around but definitely a bit more rare. Id recommend joining a local ranger facebook group and asking them. Someone will steer you in the right direction.
Hmmm that’s weird. I thought I ordered them from rock auto for a one ton GM ….. but I was collecting parts ages ago. I could definitely be wrong. Thanks 👍 Just checked yep they came from a one ton Gm. Heres one of the parts I used a.co/d/4Sr0J5z

😂
So true…. I’ll throw in a few eh’s for you so you know for sure. 🤣👍
You did an amazing build, absolutely love this truck. Thank you for sharing your experience and journey, have the best of fun with your baby
Thank you! Will do…. To be honest I like building as much as enjoying 😂
@RangerShop1 the same here. Love building, welding, turning wrenches. Just one on one with my 02 Ranger & my 1990 ford F-150.
If you haven't got a steering box yet, try the Red Head.
100% truth. I wish I had done this but I bought a new one from rock auto. Next one ☝️
This is awesome good job and huge Thanks
Glad you found it helpful 👍
this would be a great daily truck nice work, great video and info.
Thanks 👍

Nice truck 🛻
Thanks 👍
Wicked cool man.
Thanks!
I love these long and in depth videos. Keep them coming!
Thanks! Will do!
Your amazing love the content, could you do a more indepth video on your exhaust?
Thanks

Beautiful ranger great video.
Thanks 👍
Very informative videos thank you! Would be awesome to see you do a tdi or a 5.0 swap. Cause I want to do one of those in the future.
😂

If you want stiffer springs in the rear use Ford Explorer V8 rear springs. It will also lift it a bit without extended shackles.
Awesome I will look into this!! Appreciate the info!

@@RangerShop1 Hey, I was just wondering, how did you get speed inputs into your truck after you took the ABS module out ?
@@thomasyoung8909 sorry I should clarify the speed sensor is located in my transfercase so no problem there…. Just no abs. 😄👍
Hey the washers on your radius are bushings on incorrect. They should cup the bushing not curve away. Helps keep the bushing from splitting. Great build.
Good catch, Appreciate the info! I’ve got some different degree caster shims to install so I’ll swap them then. Thanks again!

I'm curious about the specs on the wheels you used, specifically the offset to compensate for the use of the full width axle.
They are for a dodge ram truck they are aftermarket but I believe very close to factory offset.

Do Rangers use the same frame for 2 wheel and four wheel drives?
I like the fittings for the axle vents. What did you use? Also why did you remove the ABS module? For the SAS swap?
Here’s an update to the kit I used. I’ll throw it in with the other parts
amzn.to/3Id4pLB
Yeah you got it. The 1979 axles I put in didn’t have speed sensors, so no abs.
Is there any way to retain ABS functionality?
On the Dana 44 I heard of some doing it… I believe someone makes a kit. Maybe if a 8.8 out of an f-150 was used along with a kit for the front. I’m sure it’s doable 👍
I have a 1995 Ranger stepside and I can’t seem to find a bed cap like yours. Do you know where I can find one?
I’ve seen them around but definitely a bit more rare. Id recommend joining a local ranger facebook group and asking them. Someone will steer you in the right direction.
What motor are you running?
4.0 SOHC
those are not 1 ton TREs, 1 ton TRE are 1"-18, all your stuff looks 7/8-18. I know jeep guys incorrectly call them 1 tons
