Dig the build, I swapped in a SM465 when I destroyed my 5 speed in the 86 Joop. Autos are nice for making it easy, but I love the control, and cruisability with the granny box. I have found abandoned camp sites and loaded up firewood and trash while in low /low crawling the dunes at Oceano.
I feel with the 4:1 low range they installed in the transfer case, they should of kept the manual tyranny. I love a manual off road. I like to select the gear I want, and the durability, no over heating issues.
