I (a retired American) live within a 10-minute walk from the Dusit Thani. For most of us 'locals', the Dusit is the most 'comfortable' hotel in an area that has some much bigger players: Sofitel, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, the Banyan Tree. Their service is the most naturally Thai, with little pretense or artifice. The staff training is among the best in Asia as they are able to build on their experience running a successful hotel school, also. Visiting their gym or restaurants is always a friendly, casual experience, with overall good service, which cannot be said for the other hotels where the service is more formally international, often less comfortable, and sometimes soulless.
Thank you Kevin for making you channel so widespread. The score based on the price is the best way to make a fair grade. I will never be able to fly in 1st class, but am happy to be along for the ride!
Great video and love the hotel having stayed a few times over the years myself - it’s just a really nice Thai flavour hotel with genuine style - did I hear you say “Sheridan” like a lot of my family 🤣
A bit late, but hopefully you see this. Earlier this year I stayed at Tinidee Hideaway, just across from Railay Beach. It was absolute paradise. The villas were very simple, but high value. I hope you get to check it out one day
Yep, agree, first thing I saw in the room: wait, what, instant coffee and TWG? And I agree also on hospitality at Como and Dusit Thani, kind of "hey welcome back" welcome even though you're visiting the property for the first time. Had the same feeling at BT in Vietnam lately...
Banyan Tree? Interesting... I kinda of lightly trashed them in my next resort review lol... Compared them directly (in some regards) to the Crowne Plaza in Phu Quoc haha.
Thanks a lot for this review. Stayed there in 2010 and 2014 and it‘s nice to see that the value for money in green season is still that good. Do you have plans to stay at Rayavadee Krabi in the future? It‘s been a fantastic property in an unreal setting when we stayed there 10 years ago.
Stayed there 2 weeks last year echo everything you said our only downside was lack of a bar in the lobby area unless you paid additional $40 pp pn for premium club entry. Best budget friendly beachfront hotel in Krabi though. Back to Marriott Khao Lak twice next year our favourite beach resort in Thailand upto now 👍
Stayed there last year, one of my most favorite resort in Thailand. Maybe you could check out the nearby Sofitel for us as well, see which one is better. 😊
Really informative vudeo. And really the price for what you get is fine. This is a more of a stay on redort/hotel property place to stay. As for myself I'd prefer to stsy closer to the action. 😊
it does looked like a decent hotel. the problem with this place is that it's a bit ways from the main tourist area. the hotel would be great for inclusive stays, but not for having a lot of shops and restaurants to walk to like at ao nang area. although ao nang beach area when crowded is also like a zoo. I guess it all depended on preferences. another great review!
Lovely compact review with all the relevant info you need. Genuine question…what happened to the community page 🤔 I guess with your growing channel and non stop travelling, maybe it became too much of hassle and too time consuming… Thank you as always for your continued high quality content 🙏🏼
A bit of a trio of things. Over the summer RUclips- let's say- "suggested" that Community Pages would be changing drastically, turning it into a mini social media feed of sorts (you can see it testing on some channels) which I wasn't interested in. Over the summer as well, I started to get frustrated with way way way too many trolling comments on those posts. "Why it takes so long to put out..." type of thing. On my videos, I fully accept the trolls, it's part of it, but the community posts were always like, extra stuff- and I just wasn't feeling it. Then in August YT offered bonuses to some creators to begin offering channel memberships. As part of that, it was suggested to do the 'daily' style posts for channel members and that's what I did. The community posts never stopped, they're still 3 times per week but as part of memberships now- as well as a weekly consolidated post on Patreon.
Nice resort and great value for the money 🎉. I noticed you booked through Expedia, how have your experiences been with them and other third party agents? Asking for a noob friend 😅😊
At this point I just use them by default for any non-big chain bookings. I used to be a hotels.com enthusiast (when I put Expedia, it's actually hotels.com, but it's the same thing) but they absolutly destroyed their reward program and I stopped using them for everything 18 months ago- now just for these one off brands.
As a tea drinker, I'd largely prefer TWG and Nescafé than, as most of the time seen, Nespresso and Lipton Yellow... This Dusit Thani reminds me a lot of the close-by Sofitel Krabi...
@@tfft I'm far from a coffee expert, but what would you say is the best coffee you can get if a coffee machine isn't an option? Or is everything below Nespresso and the like basically dishwater?
No there are lots of other non-machine options, though I think the reason you don't see them is becuase in the long run the machines are much cheaper to implement. There are a range of the "oragami" pour over individual sachets which I think are quite good, some other mass market brands are offering tea-bag like coffee sachets (not great but better than most instant)- plus there's currently a major innovation spree in the instant coffee markets with everything form liquid concentrates (dosed into individual pods), truly good (and real) freeze dried coffee, and a few other methods. A pack of (coursly ground) coffee along with a french press I think is also acceptable in places around the low five star mark. Lot's of options.

I'd semi agree in regards to the Banyan Tree, but my experience at the RCR was exceptional- lead by really natural and genuine service.
Wundervoll!
Es ist mir schwer gefallen diesen wunderschönen Ort wieder verlassen zu müssen

Love the Dusit Group! My first job in Bangkok in the late 80s. Cheers!

I believe you mean like half of the English speaking world 😉
I can't wait to hear what you have to say about Phulay Bay!! The 5 flip flops next to it makes me extra excited. Hope you liked it!
We just stayed in the new Dusit in Kyoto. Quite amazing! We will definitely try one again somewhere. Nice job.
Thanks for another great review Kevin. Even if you think its a shorter one. 👍👍
Cool Review! I'm staying here next month!
Enjoy your trip 🗺️
Ooh loved the pictures of the menus! 🍜🍝🍲🥗
Nice succinct video. But straight off three planes from NY and into a room service pizza in Thailand.. lol

@ Haha it’s property and GM dependent maybe. Worst for me will always remain Six Senses, so as you mention offense, super subjective :)

Always until the end including the ads!
Thank you for sharing 👍

Stayed there 2019. Great hotel 👍

you're more than welcome to visit the dusit thani in singapore, though i doubt that'd be your cuppa tea
I wanted to try the reopened one in Bangkok but it’s $1200/night the week I was looking at! 🤣
How does this hotel compare with the Sofitel next door? I'm looking to go in January, not sure which one to book.
The left toilet paper roll's folded point is asymmetrical, and it's bothering me so much, ahah -- great vlog as per! Cheers!

@ Thank you for your elaborate response, much appreciated!
Did they do a good job of controlling mosquitos during the rainy season?
Thank You ✈️

Yes of course, TWG is a much more premium product, my point was that it's odd to offer a premium tea along side a crap cheap coffee 😉
