I have been to Ao Nang twice in Feb 2018 and Feb 2020 and yes 4 Island Tour was good but I think Hong Island Tour was better. And yes Phi Phi Island Tour is probably easier to get to from Ao Nang. Thanks for video, very well presented. I’ve never been to Thailand and on the strength of this I don’t think I’ll bother, but like Benidorm! Would prefer somewhere a LOT less built up, can you advise? Cheers
Hey Jack. In fairness you won't get much more built up than Benidorm is from what it was. Sadly all tourist resorts are now cramming in what they can as business owners fancy a slice of the pie. As touristy as Chiang Mai is in the North of Thailand we much prefer it over the South...and it's a bit cheaper. We have a vlog on that too. Chiang Rai was nice also but we didn't film there. Even islands in the Philippines are changing from quiet areas to tourist Mecca's like Boracay. If you don't want built up but still fancy Thailand then stay away from the Phuket area, mainly Patong. You might benefit from the islands like Koh Tao, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan - although the latter island is a bit raucous and known for the full moon parties. Depending where you stay in Samui it can be nice and we had a reasonable trip when we went but still preferred Chiang Mai. If we're being brutally honest Vietnam would take precedence over Thailand now though as it's still developing but cheaper than Thailand and with better food. We've got vlogs on Hanoi and Hoi An but also went to Da Nang where we had some time for ourselves without the camera. Definitely a country worth adding to your list. Hope it's a bit of inspiration! Thanks for watching 🙂
@ParksTravelGuide thank you for that, I did hear that Vietnam is like Thailand once was 30-40 years ago? I was exaggerating with the Benidorm comparison (a place I'd never visit) but I hope you got my drift. Thanks again
@calderjack7818 we wouldn't say 30-40 years ago by any means. It's quite cosmopolitan in places but still has a lot of charm and is appealing without being in your face touristy (for now). I can see people shifting from Thailand to Vietnam. Phu Quoc is on our list when we go back. If you look at the pictures online you'll see why.
No worries Brian! The next episode will probably interest you as well as the 5 islands tour is a definite must do when you are in Ao Nang. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it! John & Becky
We spent two weeks in Au Nang. I trained at Kuen Suek Muay Thai while my buds slept off the debauchery in RCA night after night. We stayed at Pagi Pagi Villas, HIGHLY recommended! While I loved it there, my favourite spot in Thailand was easily Koh Phangan. Thanks for the vid!
I loved your video. Really informative. I am going there in December for a month...touring the Islands around Krabi/Lanta etc...little stop in Pattaya at the end ..so super excited. I am subscribing x p.s where did you stay? I know all the hotels
Hey there! Thanks very much. We originally planned on 3 nights but extended longer as we planned to go to Phuket but then changed the plan as we realised on our budget it wasn't going to be feasible so we decided to leave Thailand and had a brief visit to Kuala Lumpur. We had to wait a few days for the flights to come down in price so overall we stayed in 3 different places according to our budget. Firstly we stayed at PK Mansion and couldn't wait to leave, we fancied something nice so opted for Aonang Dugong (best out of the 3) and then we moved to Wake Up! Ao Nang which was so-so. Last time we went we stayed at what was the Vogue resort, now a Holiday Inn after a big makeover. We wanted to go to Lanta and especially Lipe but it's 'unfinished business' to give us a reason to come back sometime in the future. Thanks so much for watching and letting us know you enjoyed it as it means the world to your very average content creators like us. We've got the 4 islands boat tour coming on Thursday teatime so we hope you will enjoy that too. All the best! John & Becky x
Hi..you guys are great!!! 👌👌 i’ve checked quite few vlogs about krabi and thailand but most of them are about travelers filming themselves and a a little bit of destination. All the best! Katarina
Thank you so much for showing your purse and talking about prices! I’m planning a trip and today I was wondering if I can buy a cute purse there and what prices to expect. Greatly appreciated 🙏🏼
I'm going to Krabi in February 2024. These prices 7:55 are for each person right? So a tour to Phi Phi costs around 160€ each person? I thought it would be a lot cheaper 😯
Hey Konstantinos. This tour agent seemed to be the most expensive and we filmed it for a guide only as it was on our route of filming. There are many others which will more than likely offer you a cheaper price, we just didn't have the time to go round some asking for a tour that we wouldn't be going on. I'll be very surprised if you can't find it much cheaper at the first place you ask.
Beautiful. Very humid though! We had one heavy rain shower one evening that lasted about 20mins but overall it was bliss compared to the month of rain we had in the Philippines in December 😆
We would like to go there in october or november. Would you recommend it because of the weather or when you should we travel between october and february?
November is rainy season down in the South apparently so it may be best leaving it as late as you can. It's warm rain though which is nice, but torrential.
@@jasonmurray4726 Thanks for the tip, but I'm looking for a place to stay with a private pool in ao nang or phuket. Have you any ideas? Would it make sense too travel there in october?
Hey Joey. This was filmed in early February last year. We've only been during a November which is also rainy season in the south so can't comment on what August is like. The rain happened maybe once or twice a day but boy does it throw it down when it does. We only walked about 30 metres and it looked like we'd been in the shower! Thanks very much for watching.
Hey! Staying in Railay was going to be part of the plan, but in fairness our plans changed 4 times in 2 days both from a cost perspective and also onward travel. We cover a little bit of Railay in the following vlog where we did the 5 island tour and we can understand why people stay. Thanks very much for watching 🙂
@@ParksTravelGuide yh railay is bigger than I thought than just the main part where the long tails come in and that path from the beach with the bars etc ...there's a back end to it which has a strip near the sea which also has a few bars that at night is just magical....anyway good vid keep up the good work
Thanks very much. We honestly thought it was just the bars and the hotels on the beach, turned a corner and bam! Obviously we didn't see it all and had intentions to go back but we left 2 days after we filmed the the boat trip. This was filmed the day before that was done. Really appreciate your words and thanks for taking the time to watch us!
You're right on that one. If you go to the second beach is less polluted with diesel and boat traffic, but we agree it could be much nicer. Sadly that won't change though with it being a transport hub. Glad you had a nice holiday and thank you for watching! John & Becky x
Hey Jenny. Grab is available but we found there were rarely any drivers around Ao Nang as they were mostly in Krabi town. We walked everywhere when we were there and didn't go to Krabi itself. It's about a 25 minute drive I believe. TukTuks are readily available which is the most common option in and around the resort and there are always normal taxi's touting for business for longer distances.
Hey Louis. We have heard it is a bit more expensive in places over there but we are unsure on how big the difference is. We didn't make it to Phuket as the accommodation prices were ridiculous.
Hey there. We found it really hard to get a Grab as most were in Krabi town and wouldn't come to Ao Nang, even for an airport run! There are a few reputable companies online who do airport transfers but also taxi runs, say to Krabi town which is about 25mins away providing you book in advance. If it's a short distance then a Tuk is better, although they will try and have your pants down too so it's good to have a rough idea of how much to expect by asking a local. If you can get a Grab then go for it as it's a much better and convenient option but count it as a bonus if you get one.
People only really stay a couple of nights on Phi Phi. We hear the restaurants get rammed so don't be surprised about that. Koh Lipi is apparently well worth a visit, it's like the Maldives so they say. Have a great trip!
Phi Phi the busiest place I have ever visited in Thailand and everything double or treble the price. Guide said things quiet down once the boat trips finish at night. But he said in high season you can hardly move and we went on a quiet day.555
Hey Sarves. Sad to say every country we've visited on our current 6 month trip have hiked prices in some form, presumably since Covid too. We found it's cheaper up in Chiang Mai and Rai rather than down South. We filmed at the start of last month so don't expect much change on the information given. Have a good trip!
Hey Ahmed. The ones by speedboat to the likes of Phi Phi island are per person. We hired a boat on the next vlog at a set price and it takes 4 people or you can pay more to carry more passengers.
@@ParksTravelGuide they are evrywhere there, most farrang call them tuk tuk lol I know cannot rent tuktuk as they are licensed (although I have my own lol ) but rented Saleng in Rayong before so thought they may in Krabi. Plan to take private longboat also, dont fancy speed boat trip or crowded cruise.
Hey! We've always stayed in Ao Nang but next time probably Krabi town. If you like it really touristy then Ao Nang is where you should be. Krabi town is a bit less hectic so we hear but we haven't had any personal experience of staying there.
Great video guys, the place has changed since the last time i went in December 2022, before that was 2016, still a relaxed place but has lost some of its charm, the food market you went to see near RCA, the food its more for the western taste, i went to eat there a few times, not the best, lots more hotels and shops, still good day trips to the nearby islands, but sadly getting like Phi Phi island, very touristy now, i would go back but just for less time, maybe just for a few days next time.
Hey Fred! It is changing massively for sure. You're right about the charm as they are squeezing hotels anywhere they can and in peak season it will be really congested. It's certainly hard to find real thai food cooked with love, but the Family restaurant was probably the gem of the whole area in our opinion. We don't think we would hurry back in all honesty but we can understand how it would appeal to some. Thanks very much for watching! John & Becky x
Hi guys, it looked pretty good here and hassle free, even better! That paprika potato looked really good 😊 The tiki buildings are so cute. All the food 🥘 looks amazing. I love the way you said you were banned from clothes shopping in the night market Becky then you are lagging behind looking at dresses 😂😂😂😂😂
Hey Kezza! It was a much nicer experience this time for sure. Thai food is some of the best but can't beat the way that it's made up in Chiang Mai (apart from the red curry). Too many clothes and not enough baggage allowance ☹️. Good to see you pop up! Hope you are well x
Honest question guys.... are you scared of the end of the trip? Is there an end to it? Could you find work and keep it going, or is there a return to the old life? Because I Don't want it to end for you both. Or us, that get to come along.
It's a good question Gav and we'll answer honestly. We're petrified. Money is the biggest issue, both for our here and also mortgage and bill payments at home so unfortunately we have to come back. We have (and still are) mulling over the idea of remote working, but a lot of jobs don't pay overly great unless you've got previous experience in IT, web development, digital marketing etc. We've spoken to many out here who've just done it and worried about it later, but are still managing fine. A regular income would change things massively. It's certainly gave us a lot of perspective job wise and it's certainly showed that if it wasn't for friends and family then I very much doubt we'd live in the UK. Thanks for sticking with us!
Hey there you two! Names Jason based in Hampshire. A few questions please. I was last in AoNang in 2005. Wow how its changed. Am thinking about visiting next year. Please could you tell me where did you fly in to? Was it Phuket? Did you get taxi around to Aonang? About 3 hours if I remember correctly? And what hotel did you stay at ? Many thanks Jason
Hey Jason. We didn't go to Phuket but know people who have jumped on the bus or taxi round there. We flew into Krabi from Chiang Rai and got a taxi. If you're going to/from Phuket It's a bit longer due to the landslides the other year which block a vital quicker route but I think your estimations on time are about right. We stayed in 3 different hotels during our time there, although the first one when we arrived was more like a run down hostel so we didn't film it. We mention where we stay in the vlog and we honestly can't remember the exact names as we've done a lot of travelling and hotels since then. I know our favourite was called the Dugong. Aonang Dugong perhaps? It was named after a whale I think. We think the other was called Wake up aonang which was about a street away from it. If in doubt it'll be on the vlog in text anyway along with what we paid. Take care 🙂
I have been to Ao Nang 3 times, with the first time in 2011 and the last in 2016. In 2011, the prices were good there, but the 2 times we came back afterwards, Ao Nang has become one of Thailand's most expensive places. But it's nice that they now seem to have more places with good food at good prices, something I missed when I was there last. In 2011 I did the Koh Hong excursion. and then I paid 600 or 700 baht in total with a longtail boat, those prices you showed in the video are unacceptable, but maybe they were for speedboat and not longtail boat? I have 4 days open on my trip for Ao Nang, but haven't booked a hotel yet because I might consider skipping Ao Nang. Never really liked that city, but the dramatic cliffs and nature are the only thing that attracts. I've always had more fun in other destinations in Thailand, but the nature around Krabi is unique which makes it worth experiencing at least once. Maybe I'll come back to Ao Nang, or I'll improvise and use the 4 days for something else? Time will tell how it turned out,
Hey Peter! Yeah the prices in the book were filmed at a travel agent and for speedboats. This was one of the more expensive places as you can tell but it's just for reference. So Nang is getting very built up very quickly and there are many nicer places, although we prefer the North for it's beauty and it's cheaper. It's horses for courses though. Whatever you do we hope you have a fantastic time and we really appreciate you watching 🙂
Good Morning, couple of Qs please. Did you have vaccinations? And is Monzo card widely accepted? Enjoyed this video,we go in Feb after Phuket then on to Koh Samui and Bangkok...Thanks
@@iannelson1031 Hey Ian. Sorry for the late reply, we've just flown back from filming in Portugal. We always have our normal jabs, although we're covered for life with the amount of Hep A jabs we've had. I don't think tetanus is far behind. We had a typhoid one too because it was offered. Cards are accepted most places although some businesses don't and cash is king out there. If you're going into a big restaurant or bar then it probably will be but if it's street food then it's cash, obviously. We withdraw from the card and always keep a back up. We have a Revolut (our fav), Starling and Wise card. We used starling after we've maxed out our monthly ATM allowance with Revolut as they don't have a limit. Bangkok should be fine but again, keep a cash reserve. We don't know about Phuket but I'd imagine it's similar. Always ask before you order to avoid embarrassment. Have a great trip, if you fly into Samui then admire the airport...it's definitely one of its kind!
Brii, thanks for your reply...hope you enjoyed Portugal! Yeah, cant wait to get to Ao Nang, only there 4 nights but your video has helped immensely. Looking forward to Tandoori Nights! Great value by the looks of it.@ParksTravelGuide
@@bigtime911 Correct. Although we haven't seen it ourselves it's one we would be interested in if we ever find ourselves back there. Some mosques are more grand than the UK churches and even though we aren't of the faith we still like to pay a visit. Jama Masjid in Delhi was one of our favourites so far.
I"ll tell you what"s happened to Ao Nang, Krabi airport!, before the airport it was a quiet little village, the buildings petered out before the Mosque, there were no Indian restaurants and no tailors. Wherever they build airports along come the flotsam and jetsam, same thing happened to Koh Samui. Thailand is disappearing under concrete.

For a shared or private one? We paid slightly less in 2018 for a private boat but the boat co-operative have fixed prices up on their board that were non-negotiable. If you mean at the tour agency then they were expensive compared to others

Brilliant video going there in December it looks great thanks guys for the tips
Cheers
No worries Brian! The next episode will probably interest you as well as the 5 islands tour is a definite must do when you are in Ao Nang. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it! John & Becky
We spent two weeks in Au Nang. I trained at Kuen Suek Muay Thai while my buds slept off the debauchery in RCA night after night. We stayed at Pagi Pagi Villas, HIGHLY recommended! While I loved it there, my favourite spot in Thailand was easily Koh Phangan. Thanks for the vid!
We'll keep it in mind for the future Kris as we love recommendations. Thanks very much for watching 🙂
Inflation is global. Not just in your country. US, UK, AU, China, Singapore. Its global.
Thanks for stating the obvious 👍🏽
Hi..you guys are great!!! 👌👌 i’ve checked quite few vlogs about krabi and thailand but most of them are about travelers filming themselves and a a little bit of destination. All the best! Katarina
Thank you Katarina, that really means a lot. We hope you'll check out some of our other vlogs on our channel. Take care 🙂
Thank you so much for showing your purse and talking about prices! I’m planning a trip and today I was wondering if I can buy a cute purse there and what prices to expect. Greatly appreciated 🙏🏼
You are most welcome. Thanks for watching ☺️
I would not go if I were you, there are other great places
You can take a ferry to phi phi for 500 baht
Great video, we are going in December and this was helpful
Fantastic! Glad it helped and thanks for letting us know 🙂
Miss this place... How was the weather?
Beautiful. Very humid though! We had one heavy rain shower one evening that lasted about 20mins but overall it was bliss compared to the month of rain we had in the Philippines in December 😆
@@ParksTravelGuide thanks for the reply.. ♥️
No worries. Sorry we're a bit behind with replying - just arrived in Agra.
We would like to go there in october or november. Would you recommend it because of the weather or when you should we travel between october and february?
November is rainy season down in the South apparently so it may be best leaving it as late as you can. It's warm rain though which is nice, but torrential.
Stay at Holiday Stay Ao Nang Beach Resorts with a pool access room. 100 Mt from the beach and we had a great time with breakfast included
@@jasonmurray4726 Thanks for the tip, but I'm looking for a place to stay with a private pool in ao nang or phuket. Have you any ideas? Would it make sense too travel there in october?
What month did you guys go also how is it during the rainy season in August? Great video content
Cheers guys, really useful, there in a couple of weeks,
No worries! Glad it's helped 🙂
hello..can i ask where you guys stayed in krabi??
Hi. Aonang Dugong and Wake up Aonang. We also say which we preferred
I miss this place sooo much ,was there in 2008 ,this vid is extremely nostalgic ,thanks guys 😁
No worries. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching! 😊
Love ao nang...beach bar 1 is a personal fave next to the beach.
10min long tail ride to railay and stay there for a couple days it's paradise
Had a lovely two weeks in so nang, we thought the beaches let the place down though, more like taxi ranks for boats than beach.
You're right on that one. If you go to the second beach is less polluted with diesel and boat traffic, but we agree it could be much nicer. Sadly that won't change though with it being a transport hub. Glad you had a nice holiday and thank you for watching! John & Becky x
Thanks for your recommendations. You are a nice and pretty couple.
Thanks very much! Hope we've helped 🙂
Yes, you actually have. In a very entertaining and practical way. I'll keep on following your channel. Thanks again.
Thank you very much. That means a lot! 🙂
Which month did you take this vid?
Thanks for the info!!
Ao Nang is next on our list!!
No worries. This was filmed at the start of February in 2023. Glad you found it helpful and thanks for watching 🙂
Is there grab in Ao Nang? Or what kind of transportation can you take from Ao Nang to Krabi night market?
Last time I was in Ao Nang there was a bus that done pick ups at various accommodation places, ask at the reception where you are staying.
Is it cheaper than Phuket?
Hey Louis. We have heard it is a bit more expensive in places over there but we are unsure on how big the difference is. We didn't make it to Phuket as the accommodation prices were ridiculous.
A question about taxis. Will using a service with a fixed price board reduce the risk of a dodgy driver or better to go with something like Grab?
Really helpful!!! Thank You guys !!
@@karthikkarnam862 glad we could help. Thanks for watching 🙂
Great video thank you.
Heading there in December/Jan and trying to decide how many days to stay there and how many in Koh Phi Phi
But he said in high season you can hardly move and we went on a quiet day.555
@professorbaksida9423 good advice there 👍🏽
Went to aonang last 2015 and we flying tomorrow, heaps of changes and increase on tour rates based on your vlog. Thx for the information guys❤
Hey Sarves. Sad to say every country we've visited on our current 6 month trip have hiked prices in some form, presumably since Covid too. We found it's cheaper up in Chiang Mai and Rai rather than down South. We filmed at the start of last month so don't expect much change on the information given. Have a good trip!
Hi, are those prices of day trips for person or for the whole boat capacity?
Hey Ahmed. The ones by speedboat to the likes of Phi Phi island are per person. We hired a boat on the next vlog at a set price and it takes 4 people or you can pay more to carry more passengers.
Do you know if you canr rent a Saleng in Krabi? Much more fun and better than hire a car.
Hi David. We haven't seen these and we're guessing the answer is no but someone may be able to confirm. Thanks for watching!
@@davidmills6916 I don't think you can rent your own in Ao Nang. We can't speak for Krabi town though.
Hi, really informative video.
Anyway I am going to krabi for first time next week. You think better stay at ao nang or krabi town, or where?
When was that video taken? Exact?
We filmed on the 1st March.
You mentioned loads of Indian restaurants, is there also a large Indian tourist presence too?
Mainly shop owners but you'll also see some tourists milling around. I'd say the majority are Brits which explains it 😆
@@ParksTravelGuide yep, us Brits love a good curry 🤣
@@rotty66 Absobloodylutely Gary!
Hope you are well x
brilliant video guys loads of info
Thanks for the lovely feedback Peter and thanks for watching also 🙂
Have you guys been to Hat Yai or Songkhla yet?
We're saving that for another trip but great recommendation! We only managed just under 3 weeks in Thailand before we moved on.
Great video. I was there 1986 thru to 1990. It sure has changed🙂

I liked the big mosque at the top of hill in ao nang. Was beautiful. nobody talks about the big Muslim influence in this area.
Couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately mass tourism is ruining the true beauty of places worldwide as people try to cash in. You're lucky to be able to say you saw it in its prime. Thanks very much for watching!

4 island should be only 1100 baht per person not 2200 baht
For a shared or private one? We paid slightly less in 2018 for a private boat but the boat co-operative have fixed prices up on their board that were non-negotiable. If you mean at the tour agency then they were expensive compared to others

I just came back there with my gf to Chiang Mai. We went to Aonang and were supposed to stay for 2-3 weeks but we canceled after the 2-3 day. Huge dissapointed, won't ever go back there.
Hey Simeonov. It's a very touristy place now and getting much busier. It's a bit like marmite...you either like it or you don't. We feel the same as you. Chiang Mai is much nicer! Thanks for watching 🙂
So where would you go instead, on south Thailand?
We'd do the islands next time we think. Koh Tao, Samui (again) and Koh Phangan. Koh Lipe took our fancy too but it's in the other direction and closer to Malaysia. It's a big 'if' we went back South though as Vietnam stole our hearts with food and culture that was just as good and less pricey.
