Whats crazy is Sonia acts like the parent Zelda needed when she was trying to unlock her sealing power. Where her father king rhoam was curt and cruel as he felt he had to be to make zelda realize her destiny, sonia shows her kindness, encouraging her that she will unlock and gain control of her time ability, with the "wisdom takes time" scene. Its such an interesting parallel.
rhoam was right tho, he knew that something could go wrong and that the light power of zelda was really needed, he chose to take the path where he thought that ancient tech woldnt seal ganon and that they wold need the light, and at the end he was right, sure, he was too strict but desesperated times required desesperate measures

I understand why he was how he was, but Sonia acts like the mother Zelda had been missing since childhood, is gentle and kind, and encourages her, and Zelda almost immediately begins being able to control her time power. If she had had someone like Sonia when she was trying to awaken her light power, she may not have needed link to almost die in order to awaken it.

"“And, of course, you must make it home safe to put Link’s mind at ease.” This line really endeared me to Sonia. She was such a loving mother-figure to Zelda and always wanted the best for her. She recognized Zelda's love for Link and reassured her that she would be able to return home safely to him. And sure enough, Sonia (and Rauru) made sure of that in the end. What a queen!
It also sets up so nicely for the (spoilers I guess) Rauru sealing scene. Because it explains why he has so much faith in link and gives so much more weight to the “Link, remember this name” line
Also if you look closely when the memory ends you can see her agitating her hands as if saying no no no to something. I bet Sonia was saying that zelda was in love with link
Really emphasized how much of an evil, vile *_bastard_* this incarnation of Ganondorf was. He was sadistic, malevolent and evil in ways his past incarnations and Demise could only *_wish_* to be. And it makes you want to defeat him for her sake, because she really was a good motherly figure for Zelda.
@@splatfan From a story perspective it was a huge blunder to kill off Sonia. 1. Zelda is supposedly the descendant of Sonia but we never see her and Rauru’s child. If she had just lived after the whole Demon King debacle, we could have assumed she remarried and had a child. 2. Zelda turning into a dragon has no emotional semblance. We only care about Zelda because she’s the only character we know that’s fleshed out. Her and Mineru’s conversation is a bunch of nothing since I don’t even care about Mineru (since she is barely even a character) and the whole dragon stone was a throw-away line from a cutscene 30 hours ago. (Not even mentioning I hate it how the cutscene flashes back to past cutscenes as if we don’t know what’s going to happen). Now, imagine if Sonia was there to stop Zelda from turning into a dragon. It’d have way more emotional impact and tension since (even though it was barely swelled upon) Zelda and Sonia were clearly close to each other. “Zelda, please, don’t turn into a dragon!” Wouldn’t that have been a much more emotional and cooler cutscene then the 3 minute slog of a conversation Zelda and Mineru had instead? There are other flaws in ToTK’s story overall, like how the sage cutscenes are all the same. The actual full battle between Ganondorf and Rauru + the sages not being shown and animated is such a blunder too. We only see like 10% of the fight and 9% of that 10% are still frames of the sages giving the same lame exposition dump. Demon King? Secret stone? I already know that. It would have been better if the four sages each gave a puzzle piece to a bigger story than just explaining the same thing. Plus, having Purah figure out that we have to find a 5th sage was pretty dumb. Back to my idea earlier, having the four sages give a piece to the puzzle of finding the fifth sage would have been much better. You know what would have been good for Purah? If she became the sage of spirit at the end of the game, and inherited Mineru’s secret stone. Oh wait… that doesn’t happen… even though it’s completely fitting and appropriate for her character…

I thought I noticed some ballad of the goddess in there too, but every time it’s about to hit it’s peak it cuts off. I wonder if that’s foreshadowing for her death.
This theme really reminds me of the main Hyrule theme, when you're exploring, and the piano notes are placed so that it seems like a hurt and healing world that's so sparse of prosperity that it's very lonely. To me, the piano is the instrument representing Hyrule itself, and Sonia seems to be the heart of it. She was the first Queen, and she cared so deeply for her loved ones and her kingdom, that even though she has been gone for millenia, she lives on through the spirit of Hyrule.
It honestly captures the vibe of her kingdom's being just full of nature, because their isn't many people populating it. The theme just feels like something we could hear in Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom while walking through the forests and open grass areas. But not only that, the fact they mixed the King of Hyrule theme into it due to her being the first queen of Hyrule is incredible and that the song in general is just amazing to listen to.
0:40 & 1:00 are my fav parts but also imagine having sonia’s theme like it is actually so pretty. and she is absolutely stunning both personality wise and looks

The Champions, with even less screen time (even in the base game, without the dlc) were far more memorable and charismatic. Sonia's death didn't make me feel anything, while those of The Champions and the King of Hyrule still live on in my head almost daily. Every now and then I get an intense feeling of sadness when I remember the story of Breath of the Wild.
We barely got to see Sonia's interactions with Zelda in the Tears, so I hope in DLC we'll get to see more of that and actually see Sonia teach Zelda about her time powers

Zelda's memory with Queen Sonia and Rauru just made me totally love Sonia, she is so kind, motherly and smart. Rauru was really privileged.

still a little confused as to how she passed. Ganondorf wasn't seen holding a blade, nor was she bleeding out. Did he just punch her in the spine so hard her spirit left her body? LOL
There isn't allowed to be any blood because then it couldn't have the E or 13+ rating (can't remember which one it has). I assume she died of blunt force trauma though since they weren't allowed to show her like getting stabbed
