I just realized that Zelda's whole life was just tragedy, she lost her mother, she lost Terrako, she lost her champion friends, she lost her father, she lost her childhood training to wake up her power and she failed several times, she almost lost Link, she lost 100 years of her life fighting to keep Hyrule safe, lost her second foster family and turned into a dragon wandering for thousands of years in Hyrule watching (unconsciously) Hyrule rise and fall again
@@TwinFlyDSWThey need to find the triforce to wish for Demise’s curse to be undone. Sure Ganondorf will be gone, but you can come up with other villains. We have great ones like Majora, Ghirahim, Bellum, Vaati, and Zant. Demise isn’t the only member of the Demon Tribe Nintendo.
With all that information in mind, it’s kinda surprising to wonder why she *hasn’t* been a full on villain yet like all those Zelda villain AUs online. I’m just surprised she hasn’t snapped already because of all that she’s lost and if she were to be a villain in the future in this iteration, I highly doubt anyone would complain about it looking back on this.
@@dslai2938 bc she is a goddess descendent, the representation of all that its good in the world while Ganondorf is the representation of all that its evil. And Link of course that represents both bc we can control him and we can do good things and horrible things like crucify koroks
I thought that too and was just so happy to see parental Guardians guide her properly rather then how her father kind of forced her to work harder and faster
Ikr 😭 i couldnt stop laughing i actually had to pause and take a break because i was laughing so hard, only to come back see his face and laugh even hard
So everyone calls the timeline into question here. But i personally think that hyrule has been destroyed and rebuilt so often over the course of history that Rauru and Sonia were simply the founders of this current iteration of Hyrule and its the beginning of its own history, they found the current hyrule, the imprisoning war occurs, Ganondorf is sealed, time passes, the war against Calamity Ganon occurs, the Sheika build the Divine beasts and ancient technology, they defeated Ganon at the time and 10,000 years later he awakens again and Breath of the Wild occurs, he gets beat and then Tears of the Kingdom happens
That does make sense given that in every timeline Hyrule was always on the brink especially Downfall so it makes sense that the original Kingdom of Hyrule had possibly been destroyed.
Yeah hyrule been rebuilt many times but what Im seeing here is that this is the very first iteration of hyrule which take place before minish cape and after SS. There seems to be two imprisioning wars, one that takes place before minish cap where the 1st iteration of ganondorf after demise is sealed. The other imprisoning war is at the beginning of the downfall timeline where Ganon from Oot is sealed.
@BananaReidy there is a 3rd alternative. During Skyward sword, Demise is beaten twice, once in the present, once in the past, in such a way that both can not have been in the same timeline. So it stands to reason that there was a timeline split: The present (him getting crushed by a statue) is the timeline we are all familiar with. In the past, Demise is killed and captured within the master sword, meaning the hero of the skies would never have descended from skyloft at that time. In this Era, it seems like the Zonai were the first to reach and found Hyrule, with the Hylians coming much later. It is also worth noting they chose to release SSHD in the middle of them, and they non to subtly hinted that it was bc it related to the BOTW and TOTK. We thought it was part of the sky, but I always thought it's probably something to do with story
I mean, we've already seen it happen once in Spirit Tracks, where a new Hyrule was established even though Daphnes washed away the old Hyrule at the end of Wind Waker.
"Remember this name" I cannot remember the last time a video game gave me goosebumps all over, then the absolute emotions when the theme song plays, this game is a masterpiece.
I agree wholeheartedly! Ganondorf took everything from Rauru: his wife, his kingdom, and indirectly, his life. He remains true to his character (i.e., pretty calm and stoic) throughout the entire ordeal. But in that moment, with the knowledge that he was successfully sealing Ganondorf for ages and that even once Ganondorf eventually awoke, Link would be there to stop him, Rauru's "Remember...this name" line is like a big, proverbial middle finger to Ganondorf! And the music that plays during that moment is chillingly perfect!
Agree and when Ganondorf said "I look forward to meeting him" made me tear up because it made me think of all the times Link has faced Ganondorf over the years
I feel like a lot of people feel like this confuses the timeline, but remember. The events of the last sealing of ganon happened 10,100 years before botw. We in the real world really only have historical records of our civilizations about 5,000 years back and then everything gets a lot harder to figure out. It is fully possible hyrule fell and was founded again considering we have no clue how much time passed before the big war.
What i don't personally get it's how the old kingdom of hyrule fit with Skyward Sword for example, i always thought that the Princess Zelda from that game was the first Queen of Hyrule but now i guess not?
I think they just mentioned that this could be a new Hyrule founded long after history of the past has dissapeared and just like Link, Ganon, and Zelda, Hyrule also reappears by the curse of Demise…
You mean the second to last sealing of Calamity Ganon? That was probably around 10,106 or so years before TotK. Rauru's sealing of Ganondorf was probably 100,000+ years ago.
@@legalion5246links is a reincarnation of the spirit of the hero and zelda isn’t a reincarnation shes only a descendant with the blood of a goddess from skyward sword and ganondorf is suppose to be demises hatred reincarnated not himself plus as demise said his hatred shall never end and will be cursed upon those with the spirit of the hero and the one that shares the blood of the goddess as he stated
After when Ganondorf killed Sonia and corrupted her Secret Stone and uses it to become the Demon King, despite him corrupting it, there is a sliver of light inside of it. It is possible that Ganondorf imprisoned Sonia’s spirit inside the Secret Stone so that she can be used as an additional power source. Which meant Sonia was imprisoned for eons just like Rauru and Zelda. And thrn when Link defeated the Demon Dragon and destroyed the sacred stone, that is why Sonia was able to appear to help Zelda to transform back into her Hylian form.
@@cantinadudes yeah… it just made sense to why out of the entire darkened secret stone that was stolen, there a golden light there, compared to the rest of the Sages, their stones colours corresponded with their powers but Ganondorf's could’ve been red on the centre but instead yellow aka Sonia's soul: her power… if Calamity Ganon, was able to imprison the four champions' spirits to the blights and Divine Beasts, then it’s possible Ganondorf did the very same thing but to Sonia. Sealed away to be forced as a power source for Ganondorf with her beloved who sacrificed himself, only but a mere reach from her… and then after countless eons… the seal weakened and broke… either due to reasons such as Calamity Ganon or Rauru's power expired…
I thought the burst of light that came from the Demon Dragon might have been her, because it was just after the stone had shattered from Link and shared a similar color to Sonia’s powers.
As sad as it is I hope this is true. The story otherwise doesn't make a lot of sense... Why would Rauru replace Link's arm at the start if Sonia could've simply looped time back for Link to have his original arm? Ok we need it for gameplay purposes. But in terms of the story it wouldn't make any sense. Same thing for the Light Dragon
39:48 is probably one of the best moments in my opinion. Just Ganon/king Raru saying Link's name with a slowed down version of the legend of Zelda theme playing in background is just mwah *chef's kiss* Gave me major chills.
I think what's especially sweet is how much this is basically a do-over for Zelda, at least when it comes to her childhood. While shit might have gone to hell in the end, this is probably the first time that this Zelda's had a pair of loving and caring people as essentially her parental substitutes. Rauru, Sonia and Mineru don't pressure her into doing something she doesn't know how to do, they treat her with kindness and compassion and help her figure out how to use her powers, and any moments where they disagree (Mineru about the draconification thing), it's clearly out of worry and concern for what could happen to Zelda herself.
I also feel like Zelda makes decisions like eating the stone not because of some sense of royal duty but rather of her own accord; she does it out of love for Link and Hyrule.
The first time I saw the cutscene where Mineru mentions that transformation is possible I thought "maybe", then I got to the part where you get the Master Sword and my suspicious started to rise (particularly when I got up close and saw how its mane looked like Zelda's hair), but I still refused to believe it... then I got to that final flashback and realized why the game had "tears" in the title.
I thought about it by the third memory, and knew it when I decided to just fly to the dragon one day, and saw the Master Sword lodged in its head. I hadn't gotten the rest of the memories yet, but I put the pieces together.
I was collecting memories as I was adventuring around and filling in the map. I only happened to get the memory about draconification last and my stomach dropped out as they said that it would be a way to get to the present. Seeing the dragon then come rising up afterwards with the same color in its hide made me tear up a little. And it hit a second time when I made it through the Deku Tree.
Seeing zelda sacrifice herself for the master sword and link by turning into a dragon made me cry i just started the game yesterday and this really touched my heart i never cried over a video game moment…
49:26 the music in this scene is so amazing. The way it starts as Zelda’s lullaby and evolves into a more epic iteration is just so phenomenal. It also fits the whole scene and Zelda’s feelings so well
Oh my lord the dragon scene almost makes me cry! Zelda sacrifices her mind in order to save Hyrule. She knows she can never truly be with Link or part of her old life but she still chooses the Master Sword over her own happiness. The saddest part is that now she has been a silent observer for Hyrule for thousands of years, yet she’s locked away from the world.
@@donschaero7042 But nobody thought there was a way to return her to human form. She essentially sacrificed her mind, personality, and soul to have a chance at defeating Ganondorf, with no guarantee of being restored. It was the right decision, but it was a heartbreakingly difficult one.
That one gem gave ganondorf the power to spread evil and monsters all over hyrule that create calamity that would last for thousands of years while it gives Tulin enhanced wind attack😅
He’s the Sage I use the most. His wind is great for gliding long distances, and he always headshots my enemies with his bow; cut the poor kid some slack.
The cutscenes of TOTK are AMAZING. Never, I would thought that Zelda could become a whole dragon (Tears of the Kingdom!! Literally the tears of Zelda!!) The poor Sonia didn't deserves this but I'm so happy to see our King Ganondorf after so long! Well it was really emotional, congrats to Nintendo for that! Idk what are their next plan in the futur for a potential Zelda Game but this one was easily better than BOTW.
My theory is that in the many ways hyrule fell and rised up, at some point there was a time where hyrule got so fucked up that all the timelines somehow merged together and ended up having to recreate the entire kingdom for like a long time after anything else. Basically just so far from the future for any timeline that its just a new era on the world
I still question how the Windwaker timeline converges into this....Hyrule was essentially sealed forever and an entirely new continent settled...you can make sense of the other branches, but I can't think of a scenerio that makes sense where BotW follows Spirit Tracks....not only is Hyrule essentially gone and abandoned, but the TotK Ganondorf is clearly a fresh Ganondorf, whereas Ganon/Ganondorf in the other games is canonically the same as Oot....so what, he was born as a Gerudo and became Ganon twice? Was he somehow killed permanently after WW/AoL/FSA and had to essentially reincarnate from scratch? Idk.... doesn't make sense.
@@connormelton1635 If it is a rewrite, why did i somehow found a mention of princess ruto in one of those blue walls near zoras domain... eeeh i dont know i just made this theory as a way of understanding the story, like it isnt the first time a zelda game presents a new sentient creature that have no mention ever in any other game... ofcourse the zonnai were "mentioned" in breath of the wild in form of ruins but still.
@@sebasblos1 Yeah....but actually now that I think about it putting BotW on the Windwaker timeline makes the most sense...never computed to me that if after enough time Hyrule un-flooded, then the re-settling of the land by the Zonai and the starting of a new Hylian dynasty makes a lot of sense. Honestly if the intro to WW making it an OoT direct sequel didn't exist, it would make a lot of sense to converge the 3 timelines at the flood and make WW the first game of the unified timeline. Since the triforce is lost following WW this would explain why it's absent in BotW/TotK...since they like swapping up the timelines maybe they will do this one day...
For future dlc, we need a “second quest” story since Skyward Sword hasn’t been given us. I want tosee Zelda’s own adventures in the distant past since get a glimpse of it through those Dragon Tear memories.
that or explain why the sky island exist in the sky when they used to be in the ground edit or what happen to the zoni we still did not get why the zonai left
Seeing Zelda go back in time to the founders of Hyrule, I thought it she was in the times before Skyward Sword and was sorta expecting to see or have some mention of Demise
This is either the first iteration of Ganondorf or taking place between Skyward Sword and Minish Cap or the start of where all timelimes come back together. Given how Rauru is aware of Ganondorf and his evil and that the Zonai are technological Advanced, I’m leaning towards the latter
@@kory1687 it isn't, it's completely detatched from all timelines, the only zelda it can be somewhat connected to is skyward sword, and that's about it
Don’t know if it’s intentional or not but link or rauru’s arm glows blue and green to symbolize wisdom and courage against power which is signified as red
My headcannon is that after watching the last memory tear Link flew up to the Light Dragon's back and just sat on top of her for hours, just silently watching hyrule from above while she roamed around. The silent princess and her silent swordsman watching over hyrule.
I like what they did here. TotK's story is basically a retelling of a Link to the Past, so it's backstory is a retelling of the version of Ocarina of Time that leads to aLttP without those pesky continuity issues that arose from the stories of those two games.
It's clear to any longtime Zelda fan that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are their own canon separate from all other Zelda games... and that's ok. Just like Daniel Craig 007 Bond movies are separate from what came before it and are their own isolated saga. The heart and soul of the series is there, but it's a new direction for a new generation.
Someone explained how the the past era in TOTK is connected to skyward sword. I mean even if Rauro was in hylian form in Ocarina of Time it could always be possible that he had the ability to conjure a hylian spirit at the time. You never know.
i mean to be honest, i think its best to think of every zelda game as their own general canon. They never had a clear timeline from one game to another, and decided to try to please the fans with that timeline.
I can't get over how Queen Sonia is a total mother figure to Zelda. The royal tea time cutscene was so perfect. Also the VA for Sonia is very well chosen for the role. Really brings out the motherly and nurturing nature of hers. I wish we could see more interaction between Queen Sonia and Zelda or even what the royal couple really discussed behind the scenes. Like Rauru being concerned that Zelda might get caught in the era's matters or for them not being there when the kingdom eventually falls.
The memories were the first thing I did in Tears of the Kingdom, and I made sure to do them in order using the stone carvings you find with Impa. The only problem I have is that after you see the last tear, you kinda know what happened to Zelda, but the rest of the game Link just doesn’t say anything when people ask “Where’s Zelda???” I know where she is. She’s in the sky. Stop asking.
I just decided that Link wasn't telling people because it'd require way too much explanation, probably cause a panic, and that it was too painful for him to want to talk about. Also, you can tell Impa what happened, I don't know if you knew that.
the scene where Zelda is talking to Sonia about Link makes me tear up every time. this is the first time we hear Zelda's opinion of Link since the end of botw, and it's a far cry from what she thought of him in the first few memories from that game.
I love this game so much just for the parental relationship Zelda finally has. Sure we had her own father but it was never really developed but seeing this relationship is beautiful. Specially with Sonia
I feel like what the wild incarnation of the timeline does is sort of separate itself from the rest of the games. It’s like a hard reset on everything. Be it Ganondorf, his pig self Ganon, Zelda, and Link, it all seems to have been separated from the old timelines and instead incarnated into a new universe. The previous lore about the master sword , Demise, darkness and light, and the god stuff about hylia are still probably very much canon, but somewhere someone somehow separated/combined all of the different timelines into what they are in Botw and Totk, to solve the mess that is the Zelda timeline.
It's subtly hinted here as to why Zelda was unable to awaken her powers of Light until the last moment in BotW "As for you, I can sense both... light and time powers. But your secret stone seems to amplify your time power." Nobody knew that Zelda had TWO powers. Everyone assumed that she only had ONE; the power to repel and destroy evil with the power of light. Without realizing it, Zelda was stronger with her unknown time power and weaker in her light power. Her entire life, her father was forcing her to train a power she was much weaker in and ultimately blaming her when she failed to produce results. Poor girl. I'm glad that she got time with REAL parental figures like Urbosa, Rauru and Sonia.
But then heres a question, why did she become the light dragon? Apart from needing so to regenerate the master sword - her secret stone is that of time, and like you say, it’s her stronger power. I dont know but it’s certainly interesting to think about!
The story for this game is incredible, but I feel the open world philosophy of TOTK honestly holds it back a lot. Not experiencing a story like this in the intended order can make the scenes confusing in a way BOTW couldn’t Imagine seeing Ganondorf killing Sonia right after Zelda first gets to the past, then seeing the cutscene of Zelda and Sonia talking about their powers after that. Or seeing Zelda and Rauru run from Ganondorf then getting the cutscene where the master sword gets to the past
Happened to me lol. I think it would've been better if they made it so that whenever you find a Dragon Tear the story will always show up in the correct follow up order and not the 'you can go wherever and unlock the memories in random orders'. I didn't even know the Forgotten Temple had supposedly shown something that directed the order in which the memories should be found 🤔
I always had a hunch that people were saying that “Ganondorf can be redeemed possibly, and he wasn’t always evil,” if that were the case, Zelda wouldn’t be what it is today. Remember, Ganondorf is a madman bent on power and the destruction of its world. He doesn’t care about his people nor does he care about the unity of the nations (This worlds union system that being the Gerudo, Zora, Gorons, Hylians, and Rito) he’s just an evil man that has one goal; to rule Hyrule with an iron fist and take the Triforce for his own. After all, Demise even stated that “his hatred never perishes, and those who share the blood of the goddess are bound to this curse.” Ganondorf is an incarnation of Demise, Zelda is an incarnation of Hylia and Link is an incarnation of the legendary hero of ancient times, that being Skyward Link. Just let the villains stay villains because if Ganondorf was redeemable, then it would be Two rulers comic from Tumblr all over again. And trust me, as much as it’s intriguing, it just doesn’t work. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? It just doesn’t feel right without it.
49:34 it's so sad to me that even zelda looks scared to what is gonna happen to her and is holding the master sword in fear of what is going to happen to her
So guys. Ya'll think that this game is set after Skyward sword? By that I mean hundreds years after the events of that game. Then after this game this is where Ocarina of Time comes in and branches out. I honestly don't care cause the timeline is already messy. I do care what the fans think.
I see three different possibilities here. Either the memories for this game take place in between Skyward Sword and The Minish Cap, the entire storyline takes place thousands of years after The Adventure of Link in the Downfall Timeline, or this is simply a brand new timeline that features a new take on events that happened in the original timeline (such as the rise of Ganondorf and the Imprisoning War). The first possiblity could be possible as Sonia could very well be a descendent of SS Link and SS Zelda. At the end of SS, the word "Hyrule" is never actually mentioned so there's no evidence that Link and Zelda actually established the kingdom at that point; it was only implied. In fact, it's likely that Hyrule as a unified kingdom wasn't established until decades or even centuries later since it takes a long time to establish a new country (for reference, the US didn't become it's own country until almost 250 years after it was discovered by Europeans). The main issues here are the fact that Rauru and Sonia don't know about the Master Sword despite the fact that it should exist within the Sealed Temple. The other issue is of course, Ganondorf who, if he's the same Ganondorf who appears in OoT, should not exist at this point in time. It's possible that OoT Ganondorf is a descendent of TotK Ganondorf or even a reincarnation, but that opens up an entirely new can of worms. For the second possiblity, remember that Hyrule was basically abandoned at the end of the Downfall Timeline. The Hylians had moved north, the Gorons and Zora had migrated to distant lands, the Gerudo were nowhere to be found, and the Koroks/Kokiri had all but disappeared. It's possible that hundreds or even thousands years later, the Zonai discovered the remains of what used to be Hyrule and together with the descendants of the original Hylians, brought the land back to it's former glory, with the return of previous races as well as a new race in the Rito. Ganondorf could've been revived or even reincarnated at some point, though it would've been so far in the future that any trace of his previous attacks had been forgotten. And then of course, there is the third possiblity which is the one I'm leaning towards. Skyward Sword technically has two endings. One where Demise (as The Imprisoned) is crushed by the Sky Keep (and thus never has the chance to curse Hyrule) and a second ending where Link travels back a thousand years and defeats Demise (who does curse Hyrule) before being absorbed into the Master Sword. I think it's possible that BotW/TotK follow this new alternate timeline where the events of Skyward Sword never happen due to Demise's defeat after first being resurrected, the continued worship of Hylia happens due to her never reincarnating as Zelda, the Master Sword never gets created since it was never needed, the Zonai appearing and helping the surface dwellers (aka the ancient Hylians) establish Hyrule due to the fact that they were never sent into the sky, and of course the early rise of Ganondorf who is the product of Demise's curse (hence why his appearance is much more demonic in TotK compared to other appearances), which sets into motion the events of TotK's memories and eventually the events of BotW and TotK.
@@davisbowe8668 My theory is that Sonia is another descendant of SS! Link and SS! Zelda however, by her time her family and kingdom had fallen to ruins and their legacy as kings and queens was long dead either by rebellion, civil war, or another great evil until the Zonai appeared from the heavens and found Sonia who one of the last people to hold the blood of the goddess. Having been sent by Hylia to put her family back into power, they helped Sonia to become the first queen of Hyrule in hundreds or even thousands of years and fell in love with Rauru which made him king of the new, expansive Hyrule.
Me theory is that the Zonai became or are at least closely connected to the Piccori and are as such remembered in minish cap, The "Light power" isnt actually the triforce but the secret stone (hence zelda just randomly getting one out of nowhere it was something she always had) and the reason vaati becomes such a monster and loses himself in the games after minish cap is because he consumed some of the light power, and we all know what consuming a secret stone does to someone. Its probably horribly unsound with the actual lore its my theory.
I’m in that camp, too. Long after the Skyloftians came to live on the surface, establishing themselves there while Skyloft & the surrounding islands are colonized by the Zonai. I also believe that this Ganondorf & Calamity Ganon are two separate incarnations. This was the first Ganondorf, but Demise’s curse led to the incarnation to the OoT Ganondorf, the one we knew this whole time & eventually became Calamity Ganon. Being conscious these untold thousands of years, he lost his sense of self until he’s the mindless monster in BotW. Meanwhile, this Ganondorf wakes up down there eons later like it was a moment later. TLDR: I also believe the past was set after Skyward Sword, & I also believe there are 2 Ganondorfs: the one we’ve always known who became Calamity Ganon & this piece of work.
I remembered that I loved to see Zelda's own adventure in the apt and the rather wholesome, supportive and healthy family dynamic Zelda has with Sonia and Rauru (something new for poor Zelda). But I am afraid I begin to like their interactions too much. I still want to see more of them. Luckily, there exists the Zelda fandom and fanart.
I notice nobody asks who forbid draconification. Because knowing who forbid it would help understand the stakes a bit more other than the loss of self that it brings. Also if you think about it in automobile maintenance terms: Zelda dun trickle charged that master sword by becoming a dragon.
Lived a hundred years holding back Calamity Ganon, not to mention hundreds of thousands of years being a dragon, having your mother die early on, couldn't protect your father, saw her next parents figures - Rauru and Sonia die in front of her.... This Zelda definitely had it rough than any other one.
If the Terminator had been successful in his mission then John Conner would never have been born which means Skynet wouldn't have had to send a Terminator back into the past which would've allowed John to be born and thus forcing Skynet to send a Terminator back to prevent John from being born but by succeeding in his mission, John wouldn't have been born and so there would be no rebellion and no need to send a Terminator back into the past.
as someone who doesnt realy care for the connection with the other games timeline, i realy was positivly surprised by this gripping story and the ending.
realized just now: link is so lucky that the arm he lost is the same side as the arm that was left behind cos otherwise what would've happened lol, a backwards arm?
34:35 "But remember, that was a future where you never appeared in this world..." I think that line from Rauru just put the true ending of _Age of Calamity_ into a little more perspective. 😉
Something that bothers me..... Zelda said that she was the daughter of King Rhoam of Hyrule, who's been dead for quite some time.... Leaving her as the current ruler of Hyrule, is her self value really still that low after all of these years?
I think it is a whole new thing on its own that just borrows themes from the old games like Ganondorf's backstory and rise to power but with new elements to reinvent the series for a new generation.
Nah, this is just an entirely new timeline, completely disconnected from the old one. Nintendo said "Screw the old one, we're starting over." And honestly, I approve of the decision. That old timeline was a complete mess, with paradoxes, plotholes, and triforce heroes.
On my first play through I did not collect the tears. It was a casual type of speed run primarily focused on the main quests. When the light dragon appeared in the final battle I had that light bulb moment of "wait a minute, is the light dragon Zelda?" I did not consider that possibility when I first recovered the master sword from her. It was a nice reveal towards the end with the failed air catch from the start of the game being corrected in the final free fall.
Wow. This story is freaking incredible. I think of it as mixing the best parts of BOTW and OOT. BOTW is mainly good for having a brilliant memory mechanic as its vehicle for story telling. It is also good for two other things. One is having four dungeons based on four elements. The other is turning Zelda in a strong female character. OOT is mainly good for having a really good story to tell. There is more of a plot, and it gets epic. The use of six sages is really cool. There is that one scene where Ganandorf bows and swears allegence to to the king of Hyrule. It is nice that TOTK takes aspects of both games. It is nifty how they fit together. Memories can be scattered all over Hyrule and thus become fun to find. Yet these memories can still have a good plot when viewed in the right order. This order is given in the beginning of the game in the Forgotten Temple. Seeing things in the right order is not too bad. The player can zip around anyway due to fast travel. Going for the right order is not too inconvenient. There are things I was thinking of lately. I recently completed the Spirit Temple. It completely blows my mind that there is a fifth dungeon based on quintessesnce. There is a boss fight with Phantom Ganon before that. This was quite the surprise. It blows my mind. There is interesting cutscenes with the battle between Rauru and Ganandorf. It is mindblowing that Zelda becomes a dragon. This does remind me of Haku. Oh dear Haku. My favorite Myazaki movie is Spirited Away. My favorite character in that movie is Haku. He is a lovely character that turns into a dragon. This is specifically a white Asian dragon. That is just like Zelda. Maybe we can call these creatures light noodles or something. There is something about this transformation that reminds me of the Fisher King. I think of Link as being Peter Pan meets King Arthur. I noticed that in OOT. As for the Arthur stuff, there is some things. The Master Sword is like Excalibur, and the Triforce is like the Holy Grail. Now that I think of it, the way the sages in both OOT and TOTK stand in a circle is like the knights of the round table. In TOTK there is Fisher King stuf. The game starts when Link is severly wounded by dark magic. His arm comes off and his sword breaks. Then Hyrule goes to a bad state. Then Zelda heals the sword. Then Hyrule can presumably go back to normal. I didn't finish the game yet. So I don't know the ending. I assume it is a happy one. That is alot how the Fisher King gets wounded and healed. Originally the wound was in his man parts. Some versions say the wound was in the thigh. It is version that is less grusome. Zelda is a family friendly franchise. So it goes further. The wound in the arm is even further away from the origional part. Then the sword breaking seems like a figurative representation of what happened to the Fisher King. Swords are associated with masculinity. The main reason is that men have the gender role of being fighters. So they are associated with weapons, like swords and guns. Another reason why swords are associated with masculinity is that they are long and skinny in shape. This is like a body part that men have and women don't. I did find it odd that Zelda refered to the Master Sword as a "she" when healing it. That is unexpected. I guess that is like the Lady of the Lake. I can even imagine Zelda getting submurged underwater. Then she would hold the Master Sword out so it is above the surface. Then Link would take it.
This game made me realize that Botw and Totk are soft reboots of the Zelda series. With the introduction of the Zonai, it has become clear to me that they are not following the pre established line of events from the previous games. This is a new timeline, completely separated from the other three. Interesting.
So this Ganondorf is the ORIGINAL Ganondorf, the direct following Demise? Meaning that he's been under the castle ever since this all happened. The Ganondorf in the other games was a 2nd one (since the OoT Ganondorf is the same one is WW and TP and other games that split from OoT). That makes his return more interesting, and explains why he's so much stronger than OoT Ganondorf. Strong enough that just his leaking residual power made Calamity!
Hm I think this all plays after the known timeline. Since there was no male Gerudo in 10.000 years, Ganondorf had to be alive. Therefore he cannot reincarnate into a new Ganondorf
I'm pretty sure he's the 3rd one, after Four Swords Adventures. BotW takes place so long after SS there's plenty of room for TotK's distant past to be distat future for the rest of the series.
There's a theory that the Three Dragons are in fact the Golden Goddesses, and this is how they "returned to the heavens" after creating the land and its people. Not entirely sure how I feel about that theory honestly.
7:21 that view from the great plateau, the exact same view in the opening of botw, the parallel is amazing and then 38:28, that whole sequence, the sound design, the original theme kicking in when Rauru mentions Link, gives the chills every single time
it must be amazingly weird for Zelda meeting her ancestor, of course I'm talking about Sonia, most notably because she has the same hair and eye color as Zelda.
Back when I played OoT with my cousins, I thought it was pronounced "The Great Dookie Tree" because that was how my cousin would read the text off of the TV screen from the GameCube.
34:35 Could Age of Calamity be canon with this line? Sure, Rauru might misunderstand a bit, or it could even be a mistranslation, but this opens up an idea of what would happen if the calamity was sealed early on before Breath of the Wild's events.
I think this is just straight up the worst thing that has ever happened to a Zelda in any of the games.
I suppose it plays into Demise curse.

I think that’s the best explanation of where BOTW and TOTK takes place on the timeline.
So it stands to reason that there was a timeline split:
The present (him getting crushed by a statue) is the timeline we are all familiar with.
Rauru was such a badass
@@legalion5246 yeah we had a "new hyrule" before so it's possible to have it again
Wow, thats even darker, i was already heartbroken about her fate

@@IdentifiantE.S To be fair when playing the game for the first time we didn’t know the order of the geoglyphs to go after.

Honestly if the intro to WW making it an OoT direct sequel didn't exist, it would make a lot of sense to converge the 3 timelines at the flood and make WW the first game of the unified timeline.
To be honest I like a fresh start it gives them more to expand into
As long as they do more stuff with this Link and Zelda, I'm satisfied. That whole timeline thing wasn't doing the series any favors anyway.
Someone explained how the the past era in TOTK is connected to skyward sword. I mean even if Rauro was in hylian form in Ocarina of Time it could always be possible that he had the ability to conjure a hylian spirit at the time. You never know.
Yes and no. I think it’s more of an ‘unreliable narrator’ situation
i mean to be honest, i think its best to think of every zelda game as their own general canon.

The only problem I have is that after you see the last tear, you kinda know what happened to Zelda, but the rest of the game Link just doesn’t say anything when people ask “Where’s Zelda???”
I know where she is.

Sonia is a terrible character tho
I feel like what the wild incarnation of the timeline does is sort of separate itself from the rest of the games.
It’s like a hard reset on everything. Be it Ganondorf, his pig self Ganon, Zelda, and Link, it all seems to have been separated from the old timelines and instead incarnated into a new universe.
The previous lore about the master sword , Demise, darkness and light, and the god stuff about hylia are still probably very much canon, but somewhere someone somehow separated/combined all of the different timelines into what they are in Botw and Totk, to solve the mess that is the Zelda timeline.
It's subtly hinted here as to why Zelda was unable to awaken her powers of Light until the last moment in BotW
"As for you, I can sense both... light and time powers. But your secret stone seems to amplify your time power."
Nobody knew that Zelda had TWO powers.
Not gonna lie, Rauru does have a fine taste in women.
"Zelda if you turn into a dragon it will be impossible to change back."
"Actually it's gonna be super easy. Barely an inconvenience."
The story for this game is incredible, but I feel the open world philosophy of TOTK honestly holds it back a lot. Not experiencing a story like this in the intended order can make the scenes confusing in a way BOTW couldn’t
Imagine seeing Ganondorf killing Sonia right after Zelda first gets to the past, then seeing the cutscene of Zelda and Sonia talking about their powers after that. Or seeing Zelda and Rauru run from Ganondorf then getting the cutscene where the master sword gets to the past
They tried to remedy it with the forgotten temple it kinda worked but not really. The next game just needs to give us an active story not memories.
Well that’s what happened to me, but it’s ok 😂
Happened to me lol. I think it would've been better if they made it so that whenever you find a Dragon Tear the story will always show up in the correct follow up order and not the 'you can go wherever and unlock the memories in random orders'. I didn't even know the Forgotten Temple had supposedly shown something that directed the order in which the memories should be found 🤔

The musical arrangements here are a work of art. They evoke feelings I didn't know I had, and I find myself lost in the melodies
Oh, the Zelda theorist are gonna have a hay day breaking these down!
The fact that Raura share the same voice actor for Dimitri from Fire Emblem Three Houses/Hopes is mind blown and very fitting

My theory:
Fuck the timeline.
23:54 I've decided I'm playing Tears of The Kingdom *just for that face.*
A lady with the power over time couldn’t see her own death coming lmao
She probably did but she had to let it happen in order for time continuity
I remembered that I loved to see Zelda's own adventure in the apt and the rather wholesome, supportive and healthy family dynamic Zelda has with Sonia and Rauru (something new for poor Zelda). But I am afraid I begin to like their interactions too much. I still want to see more of them. Luckily, there exists the Zelda fandom and fanart.
Time to write fanfiction about them having picnic and hanging out together because my heart cannot take this
@@CraftingGummi I agree
Skyward Sword was supposed to have a second quest about Zelda's journey on the surface. This feels like it was inspired by that.
I notice nobody asks who forbid draconification. Because knowing who forbid it would help understand the stakes a bit more other than the loss of self that it brings.
Also if you think about it in automobile maintenance terms:
Zelda dun trickle charged that master sword by becoming a dragon.
“Rauru, I don’t trust this man, his heart is full of darkness…”

Damn this Zelda got it rough, with the Botw calamity and Ganondorf with a steel chair
Plus she didn’t really have much of a childhood because of all the training she had to do
Lived a hundred years holding back Calamity Ganon, not to mention hundreds of thousands of years being a dragon, having your mother die early on, couldn't protect your father, saw her next parents figures - Rauru and Sonia die in front of her....
This Zelda definitely had it rough than any other one.
So does this mean there was 2 Zelda's in BOTW? The human Zelda in the castle and the Dragon that's roaming around Hyrule?
Technically Zelda's time travelling create a paradox where she exists at the same time in two alternate versions of herself. It's quite confusing.
If you're going to do Time Travel at least do it right.
Might be confusing but makes sense.
Ganondorf and Zelda’s transformations shook me
I want legend of Zelda to be a movie so bad!
34:35 "But remember, that was a future where you never appeared in this world..."
I think that line from Rauru just put the true ending of _Age of Calamity_ into a little more perspective. 😉
Something that bothers me..... Zelda said that she was the daughter of King Rhoam of Hyrule, who's been dead for quite some time.... Leaving her as the current ruler of Hyrule, is her self value really still that low after all of these years?
Even ganondorf has spoken dialogues now, but not Link.

Since Ganondorf doesn’t know Link and Zelda this is most likely the earliest chronological appearance of Ganandorf, even prior to OoT.
@@GoofyAhOklahoma oh dear god triforce heroes still exists
But skyward sword is clearly still canon see Fi. Everything else from Minish cap and onward, I agree seems to be a different timeline
Zelda: "A time so far back in the past, it's become legend..."
Sounds true to the series' title.
I want video about how Sonia is possibly Hylia in her first reincarnation. This "wisdom takes time" hits differently after that
She was a priestess prior to marrying Rauru
This is the legend that started the custom of naming the future princess’s of hyrule Zelda

ah my favorite game legend of zelda: Princess Mononoke
The Zelda mulitverse is a thing now
@@KaminoKatieIt's been a thing for awhile.
27:11 they somehow made Rauru look scarier than Ganondorf here
So this Ganondorf is the ORIGINAL Ganondorf, the direct following Demise?

7:21 that view from the great plateau, the exact same view in the opening of botw, the parallel is amazing
and then 38:28, that whole sequence, the sound design, the original theme kicking in when Rauru mentions Link, gives the chills every single time
Rauru was a real one
The Goat 🐐
Doing what is best for his people regardless of the personal cost or risk, that is what a King must do.
I think the reason ganondorf is more of a threat than calamity ganon is because since ganondorf is more human,he has more iq and battle iq
it must be amazingly weird for Zelda meeting her ancestor, of course I'm talking about Sonia, most notably because she has the same hair and eye color as Zelda.
I can’t believe we rode Zelda

Back when I played OoT with my cousins, I thought it was pronounced "The Great Dookie Tree" because that was how my cousin would read the text off of the TV screen from the GameCube.
34:35 Could Age of Calamity be canon with this line? Sure, Rauru might misunderstand a bit, or it could even be a mistranslation, but this opens up an idea of what would happen if the calamity was sealed early on before Breath of the Wild's events.

Can't believe Zelda is the Maiden with Eyes of Blue that turned into Blue Eyes White Dragon
This is the closest I've ever seen link x Zelda in a game?
I mean, skyward sword Link and Zelda did canonically get married and have kids.
Um try Spirit Tracks and Skyward Sword
Maybe outwardly showing it? Nintendo is usually never into this stuff.
