Just to clarify, in NASCAR the yellow line rule or double yellow line or what have you (line the delineates the apron from the racing surface) is ONLY in effect at Super Speedways. Daytona, Talladega and now Atlanta due to its reconfiguration. On these 3 tracks its an actual rule, no passing below the yellow line. All other ovals its fair game even below the inside line.
And it's always a judgement call, the rule states once 2 tires go below the double yellow line than at that point it is illegal
Yeah, I don't think that one would have technically been a foul, but he should have known better than to try to make the apron work. That's just asking for trouble.
@@fallen2820 and it's never consistent
@@gatling216 the black truck gave the position back right after the pass was made. It also looks like the other truck possibly forced them below the yellow line.
Definitely not the black trucks fault. There was room, the other truck moved off the yellow line for the draft. The black truck moved up inside above the yellow line and the other truck tried to defend late and moved the black truck below the line. The black truck tried to move back to the track a few times but the other truck was bumping him down until he spun on the apron.

who doesn't love judging and placing blame? plus we get to see fools causing massive carnage. this is the golden content I come to youtube for
yeah.. i dont know much about all the rules and whos fault is it etc.. so Jimmy explaining it is educational for me at least :D and pretty cool tbh.. i believe this can help me be a better driver as well.. even if i dont race much... just drive around with a friend on a full server lol

In Oval Racing, Especially in NASCAR there's no such thing as track limits. You can go anywhere.
The only exception are tracks where pack racing happens, like Daytona, Talladega and now - Atlanta. There you're prohibited from putting a tire below the double yellow line to advance your position. If you do so, you either give it right back, or get a penalty
Top quality feedback. Bumping with a comment.
13 had the inside before crossing and the 13 moves over the line after the outside car sways toward them. After the outside car sways, they don't move back up to where they were to give the room back and they hold the middle of that lane. they were originally to the rightmost part of it when 13 took the inside.
The 13 had no right to get back up there as the cars ahead were in that drafting train. What was the 11 supposed to do? Give up the draft and become the meat in a 3-wide sandwich?
@@Grimoire44 The 13 had the room to make that work reasonably, but they got on the apron and lost it, I agree they could have made it out the other side of that, it would have been kinda rude but totally legal.
With the only other exception being course cuts at the road courses (much like what we saw @ COTA with the esses being policed strictly)

What I've learned from watching these clips: A lot of sim racers think giving the other driver just their own car width of space is enough. No one seems to be accounting for them locking brakes or missing their line. Everyone seems to think "But I had the line" and so that makes it ok to drive over people's noses and pinch them and give them no room at all. They are trying to completely shut out the other person's momentum and that's just not good racing. Give them room, race them hard, race them clean. It's ok to lose but lose graciously. Don't win being an asshole.
Dude I know what you mean but some people get enough room but they haven't heard of braking or throttle controle. If i give you enough space. Like 1.5/2 car widths than I have dealt my fair playing card. His line is also my line. But when I overtake you with enough space and have my car in front of you in a turn your should brake slightly just to not hit me. Why do you think that formula 1 racing is so agressive...... they ram their cars right in front of you. You have to anticipate upon it and immidiat react to that. You have to give eachother some room. But also if you get overtaken slow a bit down. You have enough corners to overtake them.....
Well I mean u are only entitled to a car width of space, a good driver will always make sure to give the car they are fighting as lttile room as allowed
5:25 is basically what happens everytime you try to pass someone in GT7.
They deserved it for recording a widescreen TV with a phone in portrait.
Those are the people you let pass and use as brakes ne t corner.
this is amusement and great lessons at the same time!
Mostly amusement lmao
At 5:00 the BMW at the back has a custom livery that reads "Driving style ok? 0-800-wayne" the wayne being a stupid old innuendo meaning "who cares?", so he clearly is a gold standard member of the sim racing community.
That Ferrari did it on purpose lmao.
8:20 has a name Jimmer, he simply Stroll-ed him.
What I always tell myself before and during a race is to forget everything about winning the race and instead just focus on safely passing the car in front of me. When you try to go for the win you tend to forget about safety because it will require an extraordinary effort to pass several cars, and that means you have to take a lot of risks.
Focus on your current position only, and be aware of potential opportunities for overtaking.
Great way to look at racing👍
Good advice, thank you.
Probably the biggest mistake or change in mindset that is needed for online sim racing is to learn not to treat every lap like its the last.
The yellow line rule is only for what used to be known as restrictor plate racing tracks. Thats talladega and daytona. They also used that rule for atlanta this past march as it was essentially the same package as those tracks. Its a safety thing. Any other oval track, you can pass below the line on the bottom.
I've been suggesting Jimmy do this for months. Hopefully I played some part in getting this idea to him. However, I did suggest Jimmy get a black robe, gavel and powdered wig, which I maintain would still be better.
Your experience has given you the ability to take into account factors that I wouldn't have noticed. As insightful as it was entertaining. Nice one Jimmy!
please make this a series!

4:30 I know that guy, I was in that event. A lot of discussion about fairness after that race
Did he reveal if it was intentional? Because it looks like hes on a decent line to overtake then the car jerks left
@@captainarcbite8063 No, the car infront says that because of lap 1 damage he had to brake early. The driver behind says that he didn't expect it but he was given a DT. Quite a bit of salt involved though

Absolutely love your input Jimmy! As someone who has caused their fair share of crashes in the sim, I can say seeing your knowledge and trying to apply it to my racing is something I always enjoy! Keep up the great content Jimmer! Hope the arm gets better!
Nice to see a PC2 clip; that game got me back into sim-racing after many years off the genre so is a game I have a massive soft-spot for.
The point about using your head is probably one of the best messages you could give sim-racers. The penultimate clip, with the Ferrari and Porsche, saying how the Porsche could have just backed out slightly, been smart and just slip-streamed back past on the next straight is a really good one; so often we get done in a corner and see the tinniest of openings and the red-mist will descend with the thought process of "Oh no you don't, I'm going to have you here" followed immediately by an incident, when the best thing to do is just take a breath and stay calm.
Please do more of these I am learning so much from your explanations!
Is that a real framed picture of the GT7 starter cars? They look so cute together!
Its the exact framed picture you see after completing this first Cafe mission
Idk how or where he got it
14:21 was that a mass Turok falling to his death sound effect spam? That caught me off guard lol.
On the super speedway, 13 had the line and cannot be blocked down without a way to regain the track in the same position he was in. That became a rule when things like this happened and the lower car would not give up.
Jimmer with that persona 4 music in the background. Banger taste
14:19 OOMG so funny! "It's a GOOD crash!" 🤣🤣🤣
The jag in Monza is the same as the Porsche at Road Am.
The Audi even gave him enough room to survive there.
But at his trajectory hes never gonna make the corner without hitting the other guy if he tries to keep fighting for the position.
The main problem is just people not being able to let a lost position go....
IMO here are more than enough videos on RUclips about how to drive faster, but not enough content about race craft. This series might begins as a fast turnover comment video, but I think there are something special there, especially for people like me who only watched races but never participated in one, it given me a lot of insight about how drivers think in a race. And helps me to understand and appreciate hard but fair racing.
This could easily be a series! You're taking all of your sim knowledge and real world racing experience and applying it to these clips. It's informative, and you bring your Jimmy humor to it as well so it's a good laugh. One thing I like is that you're also very direct with the people who are at fault. You're not mean, but you still let them know the situation.
Number 1 was definitely intentional
The Carmageddon reference at 11:46 made me very happy.
With the last f1 clip, when you get half-pitted on the rear, it's very hard for the car ahead to get out of it, you basically get forcefully pit maneuvered without escape, this can be seen as moving over, unaware if this is the case
Two instances of the BMW driver *not* being the one at fault suggest that virtual BMW drivers are much better at driving than real life BMW drivers.
Well I wasn’t expecting to have my truck on the subreddit. I’m the #2 white truck at 13:11
I love the song you played first in the background, good choice
Shoutout to the Persona 4 music playing in the background!
13:40 American here who’s big into Nascar. This is Daytona, and at Daytona (and Dega), there is a rule that your left side tires can NOT go below the double yellow line.
Is that in the sporting code for iracing? Can’t tell you how many people do it. Wreck then say well it’s not illegal because I racing doesn’t say it is
5:24 - The "You got this" frame makes it even better.
Had to watch this in 0.5 speed to see that the Ferrari actually started to slide and then had a snap :D Jimmer got some good eyes :D
I didn't see it either, I didn't even hear it like Jimmer did
The things you do for content Jimmy... I salute your dedication. I hope the mounts on the helmet cam won't betray you again. Do not compromise your field of view my dude. Maybe a donation goal for F1 style helmet cam or something in that fashion is an option although I would be scared to figure out the cost of these.

Very informative Jimmy. We have a Monday night "friends only closed lobby" competition and sometimes the results take days to sort out as we squabble over various racing incidents. we all try to be gentlemen but when the lights go out the red mist descends rapidly :)
3:55 was definitely intentional
Love this, not much content out there like this & its super useful with these actual examples to compare to our own gameplay and see where we can improve. Hope you continue this as a series!

13:46 oval specialist here. at that specific track, Talladega, the Apron is not allowed. if it is a single yellow line or a white line, it is allowed to be on the apron
My #1 rule as I start online racing... Unless you are absolutely 100% clear, take precautions because lag and netcode makes anything too close to call as a closed door.

Man, back in the day I used to race in Sim Raceway Online with a PC. The servers quit working awhile ago, but we had a rather small group that was always on and respected each other. Every now and then we would get a yahoo, but nothing that compares to what I see now. The best part was racing with the developers and chatting with the community.
With the Road America incident, the funny part is the Ferrari is braking in what is now a flat out corner.
In the second clip, the white car and the car in front braked at the same time, only the car in front was about 3-4 car lengths ahead. The #20 wasn't brake checked, but they wouldn't have been expecting the white car to brake so early...
With the NASCAR ute incident its a rule called "the yellow line rule" which clearly states drivers can't go below anyway
This won't change any end result but another rule to keep in mind
4:26 reminded me of Australia 2002 when Barrichello was the guy ahead and did something similar to this and then Half Schumacher endeed up crashing throught his rear wing at and flying at the first corner
the fact that in the first part of the video there's heartbeat heartbreak from P4 in the background makes this extremely good.
That truck crash was just normal nascar truck series shenanigans+super speedway shenanigans
Loving the editing of the videos! So perfectly scuffed in the most hilarious way. Appreciating the Persona love too!
In regards to the truck wreck. That track is Talladega, one of 2 superspeedways in the NASCAR lineup. Superspeedways have a very important rule, DO NOT go below the yellow line, In the straight its not as much of a problem but on the banking, those have in excess of 30 degrees and you put one wheel on that and its hang on cause you're going for a ride.
Sorry to hear about the injured arm... I know what it's like as I'm recovering from a broken collarbone and I'm a FPS player. Wish you all the best for a speedy recovery so you can get back to what you love without pain, because we all know pain won't keep a REAL gamer out for long. GG

i find it interesting how serious people are taking video games. you’d think they were actually driving and concerned for their safety… i just can’t imagine thinking about break checking or getting checked in a game at all.
Hey, just found your channel last night funnily enough the last episode that you did of this popped into my feed. To be honest I don't know too much about Sim racing, but after seeing a few episodes it definitely has peaked my interest. I don't know if you could make a video about Sim racing and getting into it, or of you already had one that I could watch
I mean, it's totally OK if you ram into me because you suck at driving games, but the DDoS afterwards is a pretty obvious result of that behaviour.

12:41 was a perfectly fine overtake but the driver is at fault for the slight contact because instead of staying tight to the left side of the track he drifted to the right just a tad bit to much causing the slight contact, he should of stayed tight to the left making the full pass and he wouldn't have ran into the AI driver
That was me! My driving was awful back then! I am better now though lol.
I have never played an online competitive race that I haven't been knocked off the course, or into a wall. This is why I only race A.I lol.
