Agreed. I love the transition from “Transylvania” into “Strange World” too. Amazing stuff. “Remember Tomorrow” is another of the relatively obscure good ones on that debut too.
Hallowed Be Thy Name is my favorite song of all time. It's one of those tunes I won't listen to if it comes on the radio in the car. It's sacred and must be played under the right circumstances on my home stereo. Great video!

Dance of Death 1. Hallowed be thy Name Some honorable mentions include: Flight of Icarus, Wrathchild, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Paschendale, Empire of the Clouds, and Strange World
'The Duellists' is one of my favorite songs of all-time that people seem to overlook. I think its a very moving, very powerful song. It really captures a sense of desperation, impending tragedy and courage in the face of it all. You get a sense of both the folly and courage of the titular duelist for his determination to fight for his honor unto the death. The guitar solo is just so powerful and so sad at the same time.
10. Remember Tomorrow 9. Wrathchild 8. Murders In The Rue Morgue 7. Hallowed Be Thy Name 6. 22 Acacia Avenue 5. Flight Of Icarus 4. The Prisoner 3. Die With Your Boots On 2. The Trooper 1. Aces High
@@kmsharley75 every album from no prayer, was and are weaks albums. From that record endend the maiden legend. To me. Exept the 666 tour bracket, in these last years they do nothing but to live' of the icony of themeselves, almost like a parody. And they can also afford It, for the love of God. They will always win aniway. But discographically, they endend up with seventh son... ..i may seem to scrict, but for me It is so.
Interestingly enough i never liked the Blaze albums, however Sign of the cross and The clansman are about my favorite songs on the Rock in Rio show. It’s like Bruce made them come alive.
I'm addicted to the Top Tens Pete, thanks again. I still recall laying on the floor in front of my speakers and listening to the first six Iron Maiden Albums during a snow storm back in the 80's in Upstate NY.
Great show. Bravo! My top 10 (i'm more on the proggy side of Maiden) : 1- Seventh son of a seventh son 2- Caught somewhere in time 3- Infinite Dreams 4- The loneliness of the long distance runner 5- Deja vu 6- Phantom of the opera 7- The rime of the ancient mariner 8- Gengis khan 9- To tame a land 10- Revelations Can't wait for the Maiden history show with Chris Alo =)
Kudos to Nick on the Primordial shirt. They've got some great material too! My top ten: 10) Flight of Icarus - The anthemic dual vocal tracks in chorus and the perfectly placed guitar solos cinch it for me. 9) Infinite Dreams - The philosophical lyrics and the instrumentation in this song hook me big time. 8) Wasted Years - A great, great song with a message we all can relate to. 7) Remember Tomorrow - The one song that works wonderfully whether it's DiAnno or Dickinson singing it. It's that damn good. 6) Still Life - I find the imagery and storytelling in this song captivating. 5) Prowler - It's kind of quirky and unsettling, both the music and the subject matter. But it gives it charm and it's crunchy, it rocks. 4) Revelations - Like Remember Tomorrow,I love the songs that are both a hard rocker and a ballad! 3) Powerslave - The band in top form, all members playing challenging material. 2) Hallowed Be Thy Name - So beautiful and epic. I love the shuffling drum beat and the fills by Burr in this one a lot. 1) Aces High - Still packs a punch that blows many other thrash metal hits right out of the water. Honorable Mention/#11: The Prisoner - That big drum intro, and the rest of the song is no slouch either!!!

Hallowed Be Thy Name 1.(a.) Fear Of The Dark 1.(b.) Empire Of The Clouds 1.(c.) Rime Of The Ancient Mariner

Oh my gosh. It took me two hours to watch this video. I paused it to go listen to songs on your lists that I hadn’t heard in years. I paused it to argue with you. I love that you didn’t go with the obvious picks. I mean 22 Acacia Avenue as number one. I sure didn’t see that coming. Honorable mentions were as good as songs on the list. Some of my favorites didn’t even get a mention. BEST BAND EVER!!
While I agree with you on Remember Tomorrow having some of Dianno's best moments, I think that "Prodigal Son" off of Killers has a similar vibe, but is done even better. We also can't forget Strange World off of the debut. Those 3 songs were Dianno's most melodic and haunting vocals.
In désordre : 1/stranger in a strange land 2/infinite dreams 3/rime the ancient mariner 4/powerslave 5/ ssoass 6/strange world 7/alexander the great 8/brave new world 9/killers 10/the clansman(rio 2001)
Mine: 10. Powerslave 9. Infinite Dreams 8. Wrathchild 7. The Trooper 6. Clarivoyant 5. Can I play with Madness 4. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 3. Number of the Beast 2. The Prisoner 1. Thin Line Between Love and Hate
@Marc Spera I heard that part, but it took me a while to figure out what he was saying. The 90s albums were my top 4 least favorite Iron Maiden albums, but then BNW was surprisingly great. Thin line has been my favorite song from the band since
My list could change as I explore the Iron Maiden albums beyond their golden years. 10. Stranger in a strange land 9. Killers 8. Alexander the great 7. The evil that men do 6. Aces high 5. The trooper 4. Phantom of the opera 3. Where eagles dare 2. Wasted years 1. Hallowed be thy name
@@ShinDSER Completely agreed. I've seen many people ranking it low which is a shame in my opinion. A Matter of Life and Death, Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son are my top 3 albums in no particular order, depending on my mood at the time. I believe AMOLAD only needs a proper listen and then anyone can see it's awesomeness and beauty.
@@FatemeKhodayari my top 3 looks exactly the same. AMOLAD is their prog metal masterpiece. The monumental, long songs are something Maiden is great at.
@@ShinDSER Yes. Exactly! :) And of course it's a versatile album, from short sweet rockers to long melodic epics, rare time changes and chord progressions. What's there to complain? Even it's production is way better than all post reunion and of course all 90s albums.
Great lists. I will supply mine later. I am a huge fan of all eras of Maiden. In fact, these days I usually play more of the post-2000 records. I may create two top 10 lists. Class era vs. Latter day Maiden.
Top Ten: 1. Where Eagles Dare 2. Hallowed Be Thy Name 3. Wasted Years 4. Powerslave 5. Killers 6. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 7. Revelations 8. Children of the Damned 9. Remember Tomorrow 10. To Tame a Land Honorable mentions: 22 Acacia Avenue, Wrathchild, Caught Somewhere in Time, Two Minutes to Midnight, The Prisoner, Another Life
My top 10: 10: Paschendale 9: Caught somewhere in time 8: the clairvoyant 7: the duellists 6: halloweed be thy name 5: the loneliness of the long distance runner 4: rime of the ancient mariner 3: seventh son of a seventh son 2: to tame a land 1: infinite dreams
@@NelsonMontana1234 Yeah, I just don't get him. He doesn't really "fit," does he? I mean, he's an excellent musician--don't get me wrong--but he's not Maiden-worthy, in my opinion.
@@NelsonMontana1234 Harris is still the prominent, main song-writer in the band, followed occasionally by Dickinson/Smith, so your statement doesn't make much sense to me. Check out Gers' playing on White Spirit and Gillan, he's no slouch, at all.
@@hellojimmypage Sure it does. He simply isn't writing songs as good as he used to. He's just repeating himself. Everything sounds like a lesser version of what they've done before. As for Gers, he's okay, though nothing special and certainly not in the league as Dave or Adrian. His stage antics are also uber lame -- the opposite of what Maiden used to be.
My list: 1. Caught Somewhere In Time 2. Aces High 3. Powerslave 4. Infinite Dreams 5. The Prisoner 6. Quest For Fire 7. No Prayer For The Dying 8. Afraid To Shoot Strangers 9. Out of the Silent Planet 10. The Red And the Black
It's about frickin time, been waiting for this one! For me, perhaps only the Beatles have a deeper catalogue and a more difficult task in narrowing it down to ten. As such, I have A LOT of honorable mentions. 1. Phantom of the Opera 2. Prowler 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name 4. The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg 5. Killers 6. The Number of the Beast 7. To Tame a Land 8. Empire of the Clouds 9. Wasted Years 10. The Clairvoyant Next Ten: Sanctuary, Purgatory, Murders in the Rue Morgue, 22 Acacia Avenue, Invaders, Aces High, Be Quick or Be Dead, These Colours Don't Run, Paschendale, Coming Hime. HM's: Burning Ambition, Charlotte the Harlot, Wrathchild, Children of the Damned, Cross Eyed Mary, I've Got The Fire, Where Eagles Dare, , 2 Minutes To Midnight, Futureal, Wildest Dreams, Rainmaker, Monsegiur, Isle of Avalon, The Talisman.
Been listening to Maiden since I was 10 years old, I am now 42. Before I even heard one of there songs, I was enthralled by their artwork and used to just imagine what was going on with each album cover. Then my older brother's friend gave me a cassette with Powerslave and Somewhere In Time copied to it and that was it for me, I was all in. So here, quickly put together and in no particular order, are my top 15... because 10 is just too concise: Hallowed Be Thy Name Infinite Dreams To Tame A Land Powerslave Somewhere In Time Afraid To Shoot Strangers Where Eagles Dare Phantom Of The Opera Public Enema Number One (I know, right?) The Prophecy 22 Acacia Avenue Alexander The Great Back In The Village Killers (Especially the Maiden England version) Rime of the Ancient Mariner Honorable mention: Brighter Than A Thousand Suns Empire Of the Clouds Blood Brothers Paschendale Be Quick Or Be Dead
Phantom of the Opera, Wrathchild, Revelations, Killers, Remember Tomorrow, Die With Your Boots On, Number of The Beast, Where Eagles Dare, Powerslave, Wasted Years
My list is: 10. The wicker man 9. Flight of Icarus 8. The prisoner 7. Sign of the cross 6. Hallowed be thy name 5. Powerslave 4. Caught somewhere in time 3. Alexander the Great 2. Rime of the ancient mariner 1. Phantom of the opera
1) caught somewhere in Time -(best guitar solos in my opinion, Nicko's foot speed is unreal, ripping vocals. No wonder why they never play it live, it's really just too hard to play live and have it sound good, because it's too good) 2) Rime of the Ancient Mariner -(so folksy, whimsical, best story telling song, what a journey) 3) The Trooper -(best song for a mosh pit) 4) MoonChild -(best song to open a concert with) 5) The Clansman -(so uplifting, empowering, and oddly relevant to 2020) 6) Sea of Madness -(one of the best of Harris's bass work) 7) Dance of Death -(really legitimatized Gers) 8) The Red and the Black -(amazing prolonged rift which you never want to end to close out the song) 9) Aces High -(other best song to open a concert with. Sounds amazing on Life After Death, and the last tour with the plane are the reasons why it makes my list) 10) Quest for Fire -(I just like it even if nobody else does)
Caught Somewhere In Time has to be their most underrated, under appreciated song ever. Easily their best solos, great galloping riffs, and incredible vocals. I wish they’d play it live instead of Wasted Years
You guys got me listening to a lot of my Maiden collection tonight! My top ten looks like: 1 The Clairvoyant 2 Wasted Years 3 Flight of Icarus 4 Powerslave 5 Murders in the Rue Morgue 6 Where Eagles Dare 7 Caught Somewhere in Time 8 Aces High 9 Hallowed be Thy Name 10 Brave New World
Nice to see that someone is having The Clairvoyant at number 1. That song is very epic. For me it could share place with Infinite dreams (i have infinite dreams at number 5 in my list), so The Clairvoyant could also be at number 5, but not at number 1. But still, it's a very good song🤩🥰. Great pick, and offcourse great picks with the other songs.
I done my list as soon as I started watching this I'm glad he picked 22 acacia avenue I have it on my list aswell. Maiden should play it live more often.
10. Strange World 9. Still Life 8. Wasted Years 7. Stranger In A Strange Land 6. Remember Tomorrow 5. Another Life 4. Sea of Madness 3. Phantom of the Opera 2. Number of the Beast 1. Where Eagles Dare Honorable mention : Drifter, Innocent Exile, The Evil That Men Do, Powerslave, Fear of the Dark(Live), Deja Vu, Revelations
Realizing Final Frontier doesn't get many mentions but "When the Wild Wind Blows" is awesome, (it doesn't blow) and also a mention for "Alexander the Great" from "Somewhere in Time".... fantastic.
My favorite band for 33 years now 1. Stranger In A Strange Land 2. Hallowed Be Thy Name 3. That Girl (b-side to Stranger In A Strange Land) 4. 2 Minutes To Midnight 5. The Prisoner 6. Revelations 7. Wasted Years 8. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 9. Children of the Damned 10. When The Wild Wind Blows This is ridiculously hard! First 2 are always the same
From my favorite band of all time, here is my top ten and the order doesn’t matter. 1- Rhyme of the ancient mariner. Holy Jesus Christ!! This is pure poetry at its best and even better with the sounds of guitars and drums! 2- Empire of the clouds. My brother loves it endlessly. First time I listen to I thought it was a good tune. But the second time it blown me away! 18 plus minute of pure epic metal 3- Hallowed thy the name what can I say about this one? Probably my fav maiden tune of all time and for sure my fav from NOTB album 4- The classman. Bruce made it his own! Rock in rio was terrific! Love it 5- Sign of the cross. Rock in rio’s best song of the setlist in my opinion 6- Seventh son of a seven. Probably my fav tune of the album 7- Wasted years. More than one can related to this killer tune 8- The loneliness of a long distance runner. Always gets me going when I feel down. 9- the trooper best intro ever! ( head to head with moon child) 10- phantom of the opera. I discover album a couple of years ago lol. That was the first song I played for the album and I got hooked! Great great tune Up the irons

@@brobamsmusic I listened to them all & like them all but I'm old school. Their peak era was beast, mind, powerslave. I grew up in the 80's going to all those concert tours. To me their best music were from them.
most of the songs they mention as honorable mention or post classic era, most of those songs were written by Janick Gers, that tells you how important he is for the band, amazing songwriter. so suck on that Janick haters, the guy rocks.

Caught Somewhere in Time 1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son Sorry if there's a lot of Seventh Son stuff, but that's why that album is my favourite from Maiden.

I teach guitar and I know kids, teenagers, who LOVE Maiden but don’t know their “classic” era very well at all; they are completely focused on their late era albums. “Brave New World” is an old album to them and is at the edge of their radar.. This is the ongoing power of Iron Maiden that is unparalleled by any other band I can think of off the top of my head.
Just off the top of my head and in no particular order: -Killers -Number of the Beast -Run to the Hills -Total Eclipse -Where Eagles Dare -Trooper -Rime of The Ancient Mariner -Remember Tomorrow -Wrathchild -Innocent Exile
1. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. Where Eagles Dare 3. Phantom of the Opera 4. Infinite Dreams 5. Wrathchild 6. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 7. Caught Somewhere in Time 8. Paschendale 9. Remember Tomorrow 10. Mother of Mercy .

How fun it would be to hang with you guys and talk about metal music. I feel the song No Prayer for the Dying is among the best unregarded Maiden songs but the album is largely a mess. I also love Rainmaker and think it is among the best songs but gets dismissed as a later period song. Ghost of the Navigator is more revered but not considered elite when i think it should be. Also, I want to shout out a couple from the Killers record you didn't mention. Killers, the title song has that amazing descending riff and frenetic playing after it that makes it a fav of mine and also Prodigal Son which has the songwriting of Remember Tomorrow but is condensed, edited into a finer song. Last, I was happy to see Nick shout out the record, Matter of Life and Death. To me, the song suite at the end of that record with For the Greater Good of God, Lord of Light & the Legacy is among the best material the band has ever written and as set of songs rivals Empire of the Clouds. It's amazing.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. Just discovered you about a month ago and have been watching your videos quite a bit since then. Great content, fantastic guests who inject a lot of personality and insight into every episode. I'm a fan and hope you continue to put these videos out for a long time!

Regarding 'To Tame A Land', I saw them perform it in October 1983 in Charlotte. Not sure I understood the comment about not having heard that song live (if it was meamt they never performed it live) but they definitely played it on the World Piece Tour. The Montreal show from that tour is on RUclips for any interested in watching it. Great list btw. Really enjoyed it

He threw down the glove you made the mistake of picking it up now you're GONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Sea of Madness is a killer tune
Fear Of The Dark is a weak record to me, probably their weakest in my opinion. Somewhere In Time, not so much.

Empire Of The Clouds ,.. a late career masterpiece !!!
Sign of the Cross at Rock in Rio is one of Maiden's outstanding performances.
Interestingly enough i never liked the Blaze albums, however Sign of the cross and The clansman are about my favorite songs on the Rock in Rio show. It’s like Bruce made them come alive.
@@pergustafsson1155 Absolutely. Bruce transformed both tracks. All credit to Blaze, but this situation just confirms Bruce's talent.
Yeah! Same thing with ”Lord of the flies”, on ”Death on road”. 🙂 It’s amazing! On the x-factor? Doesn’t really fly!
I'm addicted to the Top Tens Pete, thanks again. I still recall laying on the floor in front of my speakers and listening to the first six Iron Maiden Albums during a snow storm back in the 80's in Upstate NY.

Top ten SONGS!?!?! Dude, top ten Iron Maiden albums would be hard enough!
Love "Sign of the Cross"..... especially on Rock in Rio
Kudos to Nick on the Primordial shirt. They've got some great material too! My top ten:
10) Flight of Icarus - The anthemic dual vocal tracks in chorus and the perfectly placed guitar solos cinch it for me.

I literally did the same thing
Two I love that not a lot of others talk about are Stranger in a Strange Land and Purgatory.
Amen brother!
Stranger in a Strange Land is a beautiful song.
Prodigal Son is one of my top 10 songs by Maiden..The build up and the solo plus the vocals. Perfect.

@Marc Spera Ikr. I really wish that song got more recognition
@Marc Spera I heard that part, but it took me a while to figure out what he was saying. The 90s albums were my top 4 least favorite Iron Maiden albums, but then BNW was surprisingly great. Thin line has been my favorite song from the band since
Thin line is so amazing, will ever be my favorite Maiden song, I don’t understand why no one ever talks about it

Nicholas ranked "A Matter of Life and Death" in his top 5 albums? Happy to see that finally this album is getting the attention it deserves. :)
It's my second favourite. The most underrated album by far.

The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg and When The Wild Wind Blows also underrated.

I love "Still Life" amazing song. Dave and Adrian at their best. I love the Pre Gers Maiden.
Everything post Gers is so obviously sub par -- due in part to Gers.
@@NelsonMontana1234 Yeah, I just don't get him. He doesn't really "fit," does he? I mean, he's an excellent musician--don't get me wrong--but he's not Maiden-worthy, in my opinion.
And i love everything post gers

So here, quickly put together and in no particular order, are my top 15... because 10 is just too concise:
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Infinite Dreams
To Tame A Land
Powerslave
Somewhere In Time
Afraid To Shoot Strangers
Where Eagles Dare
Phantom Of The Opera
Public Enema Number One (I know, right?)
The Prophecy
22 Acacia Avenue
Alexander The Great
Back In The Village
Killers (Especially the Maiden England version)
Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Honorable mention:
Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
Empire Of the Clouds
Blood Brothers
Paschendale
Be Quick Or Be Dead
Phantom of the Opera, Wrathchild, Revelations, Killers, Remember Tomorrow, Die With Your Boots On, Number of The Beast, Where Eagles Dare, Powerslave, Wasted Years
I would have a hard time making a top 50 list for Maiden
My list is:
10. The wicker man
9. Flight of Icarus
8. The prisoner
7. Sign of the cross
6. Hallowed be thy name
5. Powerslave
4. Caught somewhere in time
3. Alexander the Great
2. Rime of the ancient mariner
1. Phantom of the opera

Infinite Dreams was one of the songs I felt bad leaving out. Love that tune! Also, I'm a massive birdwatcher!
Top 5
It's in my list.
Top 3 for me
Masterpiece
1) caught somewhere in Time -(best guitar solos in my opinion, Nicko's foot speed is unreal, ripping vocals. No wonder why they never play it live, it's really just too hard to play live and have it sound good, because it's too good)
2) Rime of the Ancient Mariner -(so folksy, whimsical, best story telling song, what a journey)
3) The Trooper -(best song for a mosh pit)
4) MoonChild -(best song to open a concert with)
5) The Clansman -(so uplifting, empowering, and oddly relevant to 2020)
6) Sea of Madness -(one of the best of Harris's bass work)
7) Dance of Death -(really legitimatized Gers)
8) The Red and the Black -(amazing prolonged rift which you never want to end to close out the song)
9) Aces High -(other best song to open a concert with. Sounds amazing on Life After Death, and the last tour with the plane are the reasons why it makes my list)
10) Quest for Fire -(I just like it even if nobody else does)
Caught Somewhere In Time has to be their most underrated, under appreciated song ever. Easily their best solos, great galloping riffs, and incredible vocals. I wish they’d play it live instead of Wasted Years

Awesome live and great a Maiden songs. Another Blaze era song I’ve seen Maiden do was Lord of the Flies on the Death on the Road tour. Now my top ten, 10. Run Silent, Run Deep ( I served on submarines, so this song is special to me), 9. Wasted Years, 8. Rime of the Ancient Mariner, 7. The Longest Day, 6. Wrathchild, 5. Can I Play With Madness, 4.Paschendale, 3. Number of the Beast, 2.The Trooper, 1. Hallow be thy Name.

7 - Flight of the Icarus
6 - If Eternity Should Fail
5 - Wasted Years
