My review of the latest Iron Maiden album: SENJUTSU!

Hey razor I don't know what happen but either the RUclips overlords decided fuck you yet again or you just had enough of the UK (tbh I don't blame ya) but I can't watch your senjitzu album review
not available in Greece dude
Not available in Canada unfortunately
It’s not available here in the UK
Not available in the UK
Note: This is a re-upload due to the Maiden Mythos being blocked in the UK on flimsy copyright grounds.
I've re-uploaded it, with the necessary edits, for my fellow metalheads across the pond. Enjoy!
That fucking blows. Cheers for looking after us Razor!
Cause you know when you feel DEJA VU
What a bunch of limey turds
Wow, what a fuck fest.
Thanks for the reupload, Razor! You're the bomb!
Bullshit laws in this country, what’s next are they going to send people to prison for jokes?
Not many RUclipsrs would re-edit an hour long video just to get it past copyright bots so people in one country could watch it again. Many thanks, Razör.
Also was blocked in Australia and Canada.
Savage 17 While I don't agree with everything he says, he at least knows what he's talking about unlike some rentagobs.
But can he Trunk?
indeed thank you !
I hope knowbody likes this post for the rest of time.
54:09 I'll have you know the cover of Dance of Death required more computing power than was used in Jurassic Park 2.
The absolute WORST Iron Maiden cover ever!
Worst of the reunion albums other than book of souls
@@themadmattster9647 I lost a lot of interest after "Brave New World". I liked Blaze and Bruce was brought back for sales. And really, I don't understand the point of three guitars. I much prefer Adrian Smith over Janick Gerrs.
@@themadmattster9647 Book of Souls was ok, really. I thought it was a decent comeback just like Brave New World, but doesnt quite get there, either.
Powerslave is king of the Maiden catalogue, but Somewhere in Time is arguably the most underrated album not just by the band but also the whole genre. A beast of a record. Alexander the Great!!!
@Hades the omni- Overlord fair play but I just can't be doing with Blaze. Not doubting he's a good vocalist in his own right, but so badly out of his depth with Maiden especially live.
Those were my first two maiden albums I bought after someone gave me the rock in Rio album in 04
It inspired a great video game too. Powerslave (Exhumed outside of US) stands as one of my favourite FPS games of all time. Was overlooked at the time because the definitive version was on the Sega Saturn (PlayStation port was bad and I never played the PC version but I understand it wasn't very good either). I honestly rate it higher than Duke Nukem 3D - if you can still stand playing clunky old shooters I can't recommend it enough, even low end PCs can emulate Saturn now, give it a go.
@
On the Clive/Nicko controversy, there's alot of discussion surrounding Clive's ability to keep up with the massive tour schedule. Even Steve has said he thought Clive was the best drummer he's ever played with. Nearly every member of Maiden has said that Clive had the better technique and feel. BUT, they also considered Nicko the better drummer when it came to touring.
Unless Razor is right about Nicko playing backroom politics, I think Clive's ability to sustain a long tour was the main reason for his sacking.
If you're looking evidence: Clive got fired after a huge American tour.
@
Disclaimer:
I consider Clive the better drummer. My point is that I don't think people have considered the physical demands of Clive's technique. Imagine trying to keep that during the tours IM was doing at that time.
Nicko is clearly the inferior drummer, but his style is super energy efficient. Nicko probably had no problem showing up every night.
Finally someone giving due credit to Clive Burr. RIP
i was doing it back in '83, bruh
My and my boys always recognized how much better Burr was vs McBrain. I wish more people did.
Even Dickinson said he was better
He was an absolute beast and savant on drums.
Lol😅literally all Maiden fans love him.
I love Children of the Damned :) Was one of the tracks that grabbed me most when I first brought home a Maiden mix tape, my very first introduction to Heavy Metal. Still one of my faces. And the guitar solo, one of Adrian Smith's very best, very similar to Krk's much trumpeted solo in One but much earlier and much less regarded. But to each his own.
Children Of The Damned is cool, but IMO, 22 Acacia Avenue is by far the best song on Number Of The Beast.
I also like Children of the Damned.
Great song. A personal favorite next to "Flash of the blade" or "the duelists" or "wasted Years". Not sure which solo I like better between "Children of the damned " and "the duelists". 2 of their best solos period. Yeah, I'm gonna disagree with Razor on Children. I think it was a solid song.
@@Sweeptheleg83 Flash of the Blade is fantastic - I love the 3 v 4 counter-rhythm in the solo on that. That was on teh same mix tape
Good god Children of the damned is awful. Slow, boring, filler, dull and repetitive. Their worst song pre Blaze Bailey
Here to honor the dead.
“Another time, another place, another smile on another face.
When you see me, floating up beside you, you get the feeling, all my love’s inside of you.
Please take me away, take me away, so far away,”
R.I.P. Paul Di’ Anno.
Up the irons.
I'm 5 mins in and this dude already gave props to Paul dianno, Clive burr, and the song purgatory. Take my like good sir
@Ruby Maverick: King Of The Hunt that dinosaur line makes me cringe like nothing else does haha
and then he calls the number of the beast "filler" lol
@@aesir1ases64 he's not wrong about that. It was the first maiden album I listened to and was recommended to me by many people and when I finally listened to it I didn't see what everyone was liking about this album and to this day I still don't!
No, just the ridiculous amounts of filler ON it.
Razor-sharp = PRO!
"Back alley abortion performed by a medieval horse doctor with a pair of rusty salad tongs" that sir had me crying... well fucking done.
After listening to the promo version of The Wicker Man I cannot accept any other version.
Same, it's just so much better.
the promo version has so much more life & atmosphere
Honestly I don’t prefer it, the chorus with the 2 vocal lines sounds muddled and confused to me
You mean Running Wild 2.0?
@@KevinQ1989 seriously, with all of the metal mythos, he always talks about how certain songs sound like other songs. Yet, wicker man is probably the most blatant song that sounds like another song. Shit, the pre-chorus in wicker man sounds like one of the parts in the queensryche song Spreadibg the Disease
Nice to see another Di’Anno fan. The first two Maiden records rock!
For me it's the only Maiden
"Somewhere in Time" will always have a special place in my heart. That tour was phenomenal.
'Somewhere in Time' and 'Powerslave' will always be my faves. I absolute enjoyed the 'Somewhere back in Time'-Tour.
Up the Irons!! \m/
Harris was one of the precious few bassists in metal back then who played with his fingers instead of a pick. He deserves that Fender signature model P-bass.
In my opinion he is one of the best bass players ever and he has great influence on what the band does most songs it's him and Bruce for the song writing
@@jrsmith1008 No it isn't.Harris is the main songwriter, but Smith and Dickinson, have provided roughly equal, in quality songs As individuals, and as a collaboration
You're right, Fear of the Dark is a blast. Found it in a second hand store while on a trip to Ireland. There were actually two Fear of the Dark CD's there, both priced differently. I got the cheapest one which had some scratches on it, but that didn't really matter on a proper player. Never looked back and was thoroughly surprised that this album was seen as a 'weaker' one.
From hear to Eternity ..weekend warrior, wasting love. Has all the bangers. LOL.
Paul is one of the most versatile front men, right up there with Halford. His contributions to Iron Maiden and metal in general, were and are immense.
Eh...he’s not that good. His solo career didn’t take off to runaway success like the great frontmen of rock-David Lee Roth, Ozzy, Dio, etc. Sure as hell a lot better than Dickinson though.
Yeah. Reign it in. I wish Di'Anno had stuff after that really showed em how but none of it did unfortunately. NONE of it. Not a song.
@@UnchainedEruptionyeah I think Bruce was also more of a “showman” than Paul so he is seen as the better frontman
Di’anno Maiden really helped make me love metal as a kid
@UnchainedEruption look honestly he SHOULD'VE started or rather *UNFUCKENLEASHED* Battlezone with Doug Sampson *IMMEDIATELY AFTER* leaving Maiden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They should've done 5 albums with Paul before bringing in Dickinson and Number Of The Beast could still happen anyways!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yeah uuuuuummmmmmm sacking Clive was *BANG OUT OF FUCKEN ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* LIKE "HOW DARE" CLIVE LEAVE A TOUR TO MOURN THE DEATH OF A LOVED ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally! Please do a Dio Metal Mythos ... Pleeeeeease
Quigon Jim That would be, like, 197 hours long! But I could take a vacation.
Quigon Jim, Abso..fuckin..lutely!!
Just the band Dio wouldn't be ridiculously long
Jesus yes please
You somehow got your wish, check Black Sabbath's Metal Mythos
Somewhere in time was my first metal album, when it was released.. I listened to that tape., yes cassette, probably 100 times in a row. It will always hold a special place in my heart.
That’s when I was ready to tap out. I guess it’s what you grew up with. I heard number of the beast and was blown away. Powerslave is my all time favorite
Timeline and age makes a big difference. You can have an affinity for an album that may not be a band’s best, but that particular album means a lot to you. I got onboard when I heard Run To The Hills being played on the radio in 82/83, so that particular song means a lot to me.
@@wallofrock6725 same with the title track for me. The opening dialogue get me every time
Somewhere in time, the Best Metal Album, in my opinion,. Followed by the Black Album, or Metallica. Powerslave Is the 2nd best Maiden album and is on the same level as priests painkiller, in my opinion
I couldn’t agree more about Paul Dianno. He is the best maiden singer in history and it isn’t even close. He encapsulates what metal was in its entirety. Up the irons 🤘
I wish Steve re-enlisted him instead of getting Blaze Bayley.
My first introduction to Iron Maiden was Flight of Icarus, then the rest of Piece of Mind.

This is my most anticipated Metal Mythos!
B R tbh he might diss on the jazz and blues influenced and what made Black Sabbath special in their early career. Coupled with bill Ward not fully playing double bass and all the drugs they took from 1973-1979, it's a hell of a mythology.
Your wish is granted
The re-upload is just another excuse to rewatch this great episode. Love it!
MetalJesus Rocks this guy is such a douchebag ,and his song "likes" and "dislikes" are way friggin odd, I had a hard time watching the video! He calls "Flash of the Blade", the greatest song on "Powerslave",and puts down "Back in the Village" as nasally vocal wise. The song has a classic guitar riff that gallops along . Great tune imo! I would love to meet this dude in a bar, debate him ,then break him in half over my knee, the skinny little twat!
@@yourfairyking It's called being wrong. He puts/ says many things in here that are WRONG. Fact. For example, the clip of bruce "bashing the fans." That wasn't from 1988, it's from the early 90's when he left band. It had nothing to do with 7th son. That part of the video is WRONG. The thing about nicko being better than clive. You can like whoever you want, but to say "nicko knows one beat" is WRONG. Drummers from the 80's used to stand behind him to watch how he played. Look at Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Where Eagles Dare.
And finally, to his comments on Number of the Beast. This is the most WRONG thing he said in the entire video. Again, you can like what you like, and think it's overrated. But saying "Number of the Beast just isn't that good" or "it's full of filler" or "people wouldn't like it if it weren't for the music videos." This is all WRONG. Number of the beast has some of the biggest hits in all of traditional metal, regardless of the videos. And if he claims the prisoner is filler, then so is 22 acacia avenue. Those aren't filler, theyre fan favorites. Number of the Beast is a classic because of how good it is. This video is pure cancer.
@@Haxprocess If you're butthurt about this guy's options take a watering can, water your pelvic area and grow some fucking balls. I don't think "The Number of The Beast" is full of filler (absolutely overrated in my opinion) but you don't see me whine about it in the comments. Also big fucking deal that he got the year Bruce "bashed the fans" wrong its not his opinions are going to change.
Ps. 22 Acacia Avenue is miles away from The Prisoner.
@@apoxzaotc6696 ok
Rock on
I still have a ton of metal records to listen to and get caught up. But Phantom of the Opera is already one of my favorite tunes of all-time.
Impeccable taste, my friend
Piece of Mind was the Defining album for Maiden with out a Doubt...And "Hallowed be thy Name" is the Greatest Heavy Metal song of All Time
I'm so happy to hear someone else recognize how fucking amazing Paul was with Maiden and how underestimated his voice is. I love Bruce but you can't deny Paul's power and range. My buddy and I would smoke joints and listen to those first two albums endlessly. Those albums were raw and balls to the wall.
I started with Fear of the dark and that's a fucking classic forever to me, but I still go to the first 2 albums more often.
weirdo 😂
@@MM1717mm Yep.
Have you heard his Battlezone stuff? His voice really came into it's own. Just as hard to sing as the Bruce stuff, but still has that gritty rock feel. Some really cool tunes.
@@machupikachu1085 I love Battlezone! He also had some pretty good shit in Killers and Nomad.
Love it so far. You have not mentioned an important fact, stage presence. Bruce did have more than Paul.
Just my thought too.
56:52 had me rolling. LOL!! Maiden's "Different World" totally fits well as a theme song for 7th Heaven.
"Lo-Fi production IS Metal!" Bringing back good memories Razor, thanks.
"YOU CAN'T PLAY HEAVY METAL WITH SYNTHESIZERS!"
(immediately plays synthesizers)
LOL. Oh Bruce Bruce!
Even Bruce has taken the piss out of that stupid comment.
Who hasn’t released an album with Synths on it after saying you wouldn’t while pissed up at a wedding in a different country
To be fair, it was true when Bruce said so in 1985 regarding their own albums up to that point. I mean can you imagine Aces High, The Prisoner or The Trooper with synthesizers? Me neither. But then their style changed quite dramatically with Somewhere In Time and then a step further with 7th Son. All of the sudden synthesizers became a valid option, because it really fit their new more grand, epic and dramatic sound. It didn't however fit the earlier more straight to the point, classic balls to the wall sound and songwriting.
@@FadirDungeon your giving the same lame excuse that bruce gave about that comment. Because he couldn't just straight out admit he was wrong with his comment.
@@martymartin2894 No I actually, truly think so. Synthesizers has worked out great on alot of Maidens stuff. But on the early, riff driven, straight to the point stuff it wouldn't work. It would sound like shit.
My favorite songs are the following ones.
-Remember Tomorrow
-Hallowed Be Thy Name
-Wasted Years
-Can I Play With Madness
-Flight Of Icarus
-The Trooper
-Fear Of The Dark
-Aces High
-Run To The Hills
-Iron Maiden
-2 Minutes To Midnight
-Heaven Can Wait
Thank you sir for finally giving proper credit to Paul and Clive. As well as to unjustly neglected pearls like Deja Vu and Judas Be My Guide. But I disagree on 7th Son. The intro to The Evil that Men Do is one of the most epic guitar phrases ever penned. Sweet and majestic at the same time.
"Metal Mythos: Iron Maiden"
Well. That marks the fastest I've ever clicked on anything in my entire life.
Maiden should go back to basics = do powerful heavy album, shorter , more intense, Nicko do double bass , spicy guitars & it will works !!!
I like seventh son, don't know why everyone hates it so much.
Great album very underated
ZeroHxC07 Because it's bloated, proggy, overly long and full of chorus repeats. Some people don't like it as a matter of personal preference.
I'm not a big fan of prog rock in general... but always liked the 7th Son album. By 1988, Maiden had already been enraptured with the smell of their own farts for at least the Powerslave and Somewhere the Time Albums. Repetitive chorus in the title track from 7th Son is simply too much?? But somehow the same exact treatment in the title track to Powerslave or the ponderous, plodding indulgence of Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner or the never ending run on and on run on and on run on and on from The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner are somehow parts of untouchable classic albums? Fuckin lol.
If we're really going to open the pandora's box of "too long and proggy and bloated", well the last 6 to 8 minute long Maiden epic that ever justified it's running time was To Tame A Land from fuckin 1983. Every Maiden epic since then has been at least a 50/50 split between inspiration and meandering mess... and this is coming from an old man who first saw them in concert almost 30 years ago. I love em to death, especially their 1980-1992 output... but goddamn the band has been fond of prog wankery for nearly their entire career. It takes some bizzarro mental gymnastics to throw shade on the prog tendencies of these two tracks from that album but not those two tracks from that one. It's absurd on it's face.
It's a good album.
Fifty billion chorus repeats
20 minute songs with a handful of guitar riffs
Shoehorned synth music that didnt fit into neither maiden nor metal
Yeah im wondering that as well
Hey Razorfist, did you know that some people are angry that they don't agree with you?
Cause that's apparently an issue worth addressing.....
I disagree with a few things Razorfist opines, but definitely nothing personal. He's passionate of his opinions and highly, highly entertaining. Great job ad fun to watch.
I love Maiden but I can acknowledge Razors criticism no band is perfect
His opinions are brilliant but sometimes trash lol, its quite interesting.

Fear of the dark is likely in my top five favorite albums. No idea why but it keeps ending up blasting out of my car stereo on a fairly regular basis.
Thank you! Number of the Beast was my first Maiden album. Thought it was great. Then I heard the first two albums and wondered, "Why'd they let DiAnno go?" And yes, on Where Eagles Dare, you can hear McBrain fall behind in a couple places. Not as good as Burr.

@@kjone5086 I'm one of them, yes
That clip of Blaze freaking, someone spat on Steve and him in the middle of the song.
Was kinda wondering why the band wasn't trying to calm him down.
Oh come on , Compare Dianno to Dickinson on performances now. How many performances have they each done since the originals? Dickinson has been performing non stop since before Maiden and Dianno when he climbed out of a bottle long enough to perform has been a fraction. Also seems to me Dickinson had a surgery that may have affected his vocals just a hair. I love the Dianno albums I started with them . Dickinson took them further than Paul ever would have.
@Mortimer Mortix no. lemme do it properly. FUCK YOU YOU IGNORANT SACK OF SHIT. GET OFF THE INTERNET BEFORE I USE A SPIKED BOOT TO STOMP YOUR SORRY ASS INTO MUSH.
This is undoubtedly true. At least so far as is plainly obvious without the benefit of getting to witness an alternate universe progression wherein Dianno stayed on. Bruce's level of ambition as a person simply overshoots Paul's (and most other humans for that matter) by a clear mile, and that reflects on maidens career. Especially the touring aspect, for reasons that should be crystal clear to even the most staunchly biased Dianno supporters. To pick and choose a single clip of now/then to bolster the claim that Dianno was the superior frontman does little but showcase some extreme bias, and cannot be taken seriously by anyone with even the foggiest of critical thinking abilities. I'm pretty sure Dianno never performed across hemispheres ones day to the next, to say nothing of the sheer differences in the amount of shows each perform. I've seen Bruce at shows where he was off, of course, (last time around for instance for Souls in Ct, US... Where he was obviously sick), and other shows (AMOLAD- again in CT) where he was stunningly dead on, highs and all. Bruce came up with a way in which to get the band to play in places far more efficiently, vastly expanding their touring range and delivering the Maiden experience to people in cities that would otherwise be so impractical as to never get the chance.
Dianno, on the other hand, couldn't hack it after a couple tours. Sorry, but Thems. The. Facts.
Hey, I don't have anything bad to say about Paul, I've been around a long time and was there to enjoy the early stuff, starting with NotB. After powerslave, I went back and listened to the first two. At first, I didn't like the vocals near as much, but I kept listening, trying to soften my bias in order to enjoy his style for what it was. And it paid off big-time...I really love that stuff every bit as much as the Bruce era material. That's the same approach that allows me to immensely enjoy the later material as well. I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say I think FF is a stunning work of art, just as enjoyable as powerslave ever was (Bruces crooning of "Westward the tides" is just plain good for the soul, at least to me).
Well, Dianno did have a non-Mailable tumor in his lungs for the better half of his career, but I can't see how that could *possibly* affect his singing.
I personally find enjoyment in all Maiden albums
I’ve come to the conclusion that they not only don’t have a bad album but they don’t really have any bad songs either. Everything song has at least something worthwhile
Same , they are all great. And I love all three singers for different reasons.
Every band has a bad album. Maiden unfortunately have quit a few to choose from. Sorry but someone had to say it! Too many D**k Sucking maiden fans here!
@@notramesses4790 Which one? They dont have bad albuns generally speaking, some are average at worst but none bad.
My least favorites are the first ones and the blaze ones, but others will say the first ones are the best.
So yeah, I think even Virtual XI, which would probably be the most hated one, its actually an average one at worst, if you look at it objectively.
@@aesir1ases64 in my opinion I would say, number of the beast, seventh son of a seventh son, Blaze Bayley albums, Dance of death, Book of souls and senjutsu are the worst! Just my humble thoughts.
Killers is such an amazing album. Easily in my top 3 of all Maiden albums
Although you’re highly opinionated beyond belief, it’s refreshing to see an unapologetic critique. And although I don’t agree with everything, you bring up some good points, and I certainly like your take on No Prayer… not sure why it doesn’t get more credit.
We just lost a legend today... Godspeed, Paul Di'Anno! Jamming to the albums he appears on now in honor!🤘
Maiden has been my all time favorite band of all time and still is. At 50 years old now I still maintain that.
Powerslave is the Best Maiden Album ...
I liked Somewhere in Time better, but Powerslave is amazing too.
I disagree with a lot of your views, but the 'what are you, one of the angry birds?' comment had me in stitches.
Revisited this mythos after being on a Maiden kick as of late and, dude, you're so right about Somewhere in Time. Such an amazing record! More consistent than Powerslave, punchier/heavier than Seventh Son and yet tends to get lost between those 2 more popular albums. Also, has the best damn artwork of any Maiden album (although the Powerslave sleeve is also fantastic). Can stare at and pick apart that album cover all Goddamn day. Stellar album.
I appreciate the honesty you don't always get from people in the media. I do disagree with a couple things. I like The Prisoner off of NOTB. Clive on the drums and both Dave & Adrian's solos are great when they play it live. I know Gangland's filler. I saw an interview with Adrian. He said it was a rare day he and Clive were the only ones in the studio and Clive told him to, "come up with something over this drum beat." So he riffed over it. They came up with it right there. It was only Adrian's second album with the band and Bruce's first so it was raw. But like you mentioned, Clive was great on it and like you, I don't like what they did to him, shameless sacking and bringing in Nicko.
As far as Bruce tearing up the fan's "Play the Classics" sign, I laughed and thought of what Lemmy said about Bruce, "Well, they don't call him Dick Brucison for nothing!" LOL!! It's like you can still hear Lemmy's voice from beyond the grave. :)
I completely agree with a lot of your opinions and especially about Clive being sacked.... just has always been a head scratcher for me
INVADERS is filler? I tend to agree with you on many things.... But... IN THE NAME OF FUCKING EDDIE...... THERE IS NO WAY I can agree with your assessment of NUMBER OF THE BEAST..... On a purely personal level...THAT, my friend, was my INTRODUCTION to MAIDEN (Which led to the beautiful discovery of their Bruce-less back catalog) .... Sort of like the first girl that agrees to let you past first base and a HOME RUN is the result! I admit my over-50-ness is showing, but NOTB was the ONLY thing that would take my mind off of my constant KISS addiction (The same band who ass-banged me and the rest of the KISS ARMY with fucking Dynasty disco!) when introduced to me by a neighbor friend... That Maiden album completely CAPTIVATED me from the first note to the last! HALLOWED BE THY NAME, as you pointed out, was an EPIC ending! I, if anybody, KNOW this to be a GREAT introduction to the wonderment we call ...IRON FUCKING MAIDEN! :-D
Prisoner and Children of the Damned are great too. I do think the Number of the Beast LP is overrated though, but not as overrated as Razor says.
Razor has to keep his edge. Half the mythos filled with "good", "okay" and "meh" would be way less interesting than jumping between opposing superlatives all the time. Also likes to pick less known precursors to popular things and bitch about plagiarism all the time.
To his credit, he isn't a contrarian just for the heck of it. But whenever he finds himself in slight disagreement with the general opinion, he tends to ramp it all the way up.
Definitely better than fanboyish "8 out of 10 is the lowest my favorite band has ever sank." The man has his opinions and isn't afraid to word them strongly, and that is becoming increasingly rare.
@Lassi Kinnunen Yeah I also think this is one of their least filler albums with Dickenson, and yet he slams it as being filler fuel.
Invaders, Children of the Damned, The Prisoner? Those were all concert staples for a while.
He complains and argues that they're metal-pop ballads and yet then praises Run to the Hills, which is exactly the same thing he just bashed 2 other songs for.
He contradicts himself on a few albums and it's kind of annoying because he makes it seems like it's justifiable to hate certain things for the point of hating them in the video.
While I personally think Powerslave is the best Maiden record released to humanity, I don't think Number of the Beast is overrated by any means, or is a lackluster album.
In fact, I think that whole description can be applied to Killers. Iron Maiden was a brilliant album, but Killers seemed like more of the same with only 2 or 3 really standout songs on it. The rest of that album is really forgettable and droning, with some songs running together with how unintuitive they were.
I like how all the bitches replyin to this comment prefer to reply to some other comment than post their own pretty pathetic people
@ Jay Powell this fuckin idiot ,is waaaaaaay offf ! N.O.T.B. is the greatest album Maiden has ever put out (arguably) and has no filler tracks at all!! I totally agree with you ,and I enjoyed your comment Jay. Odd that more people did not sound off at the attack of this foolish dudes analysis.
The first 2 albums will always be tops for me, especially Killers. It's a shame that Clive left after TNOTB, the sound and feel definitely changed after that. As far as drummers go, he was very underrated. Also. Di'anno as a vocalist was better for my money in Maiden. The Bruce stuff is great of course, and most of the albums with him are outstanding and are classics, but I just like the feel of the first 2 records, and I always listen to them more than the others.
In a parallel universe, Dickinson was booted off of Maiden for substance abuse and was replaced by DiAnno.
This was the video that introduced me to Iron Maiden, but more importantly, it's what convinced me to start at the beginning with the first two albums, instead of going directly into the Dickinson era as its usually recommended. For that I'll always be gratefull to razorfist, since to this day it's still my favorite era of Iron Maiden, and Paul my favorite vocalist.
R. I. P. Paul Di'Anno.
Musically, Back in the Village is excellent. Agreed that the vocals were a bit wispy, but not so thin as to dismiss the entire track. There is some great guitar work in there.
Thank you
So..you don't like SSOASS?
Great video! I also love Somewhere in Time, and it's a shame that killer tracks like Sea of Madness, caught somewhere.. or Stranger in a Strange Land are never played live. Not to mention Alexander the great, imo the best closing song they ever did!
SIT contains my favourite cover art, coolest Eddie, and the tour that followed it looked really spectacular.
yeah... Maiden can go fuck themselves for not playing more Somewhere In Time stuff other than the same old Wasted Years and Heaven Can Wait. All the tracks in that masterpiece album are BETTER!
I've always been more of a fan of the Paul Di'Anno Iron Maiden than Bruce Dickinson. The first two albums have a grittiness that disappeared when Bruce joined. Thanks Razorfist for shining a light back on the Di'Anno days- Great video!!!
Hit the nail on the head with the NOTB comment. I remember when I first tried to get into metal one of the first albums I listened to was NOTB. I bounced off of it, moved on to Metallica and didn’t listen to much metal for about 2 years later.
This dude always rejuvenates my love for metal. Since I've been seeing stuff on hair metal and stuff like that, I'd love to see him do an episode on Warrant, Steelheart, Skid Row/Sebastian Bach's solo records.
Just found out that Paul dianno has passed away oct 2024
Let's see...Iron Maiden...little airplay and some MTV exposure over the years. Some problems, whether big or small...and they've sold over 100,000,000 albums over their career! Amazing!
Please, do Mercyful Fate?
I have been playing drums for 46 years and I have always maintained that while Nicko has more.."chops"..Clive's pocket and feel are unmatched. Just listen to "Wrathchild" on "KIllers"..than Nicko on ANY live performance since. It's not remotely close and feels like an entirely different song. I also think Clive's more direct approach left more room for Harry's bass to cut through. Anyway..."Killer's" will always be my favorite "Maiden" album....and I have them all.
I love how Clive could make inventive patterns mainly out of toms. Most drummers stick to snare and cymbal stuff. Clive is really underrated.
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is an absolute masterpiece. A perfect album from start to finish. No metal band will every surpass that album.
I'll only defend Dance of Death because it has Paschendale on it and I fucking love that track.
'Rainmaker' and 'Journeyman' are great as well.
I love "The X-factor" it's atmosphere and moodiness, still one of my favorire Maiden albums. Not going to defend it or anything, it just clicks with me, the whole dark vibe of it. I tend to look at it not as a Maiden album, more like something I can listen to while depressed like Lake Of Tears or later day Sentenced (although musically it has nothing to do with those)
Blaze era is what kept iron maiden alive
It's my favourite along with Somewhere In Time and Iron Maiden . Pure Masterpiece. You are not alone brother
Meh.
I also like it very much. My top 5 Maiden albums.
Blaze was great, but the problem was that he was out of his zone singing the Dickinson songs and that was not well received.
I love watching his content, because I love older music! My father got me into Maiden when I was a kid and I began to rifle through his CD's like a frantic crack fiend for my next fix of badass music. But my dad's collection was very limited and I didn't have much direction on where to look next. All Hail, the Rageaholic! I stumble across his channel and not only learn the history about these badass bands, but I get introduced to their albums and get to form my own opinions on them! Thank you so much for your content man! I love having a laugh and learning! Please continue Metal Mythos!
Dude. Thank you for introducing me to "Gettysburg by Iced Earth". 32 minutes of metal mastery.
As far as how both singers sound now..... Bruce had played a thousand more shows in his career so therefore his voice will naturally change
Di'Anno has been in touring bands consistently since Maiden. It's not like he stopped touring. Much less exhaustively.
Dude... never change. Your critiques are a damn pleasure to listen to and never fail to make me laugh at times!
If Iron Maiden doesn't get inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, I'd be incredibly pissed! Already bad enough that Judas Priest got passed up *twice*.
Who even cares for Hall of Fame??
My first venture down Metal Mythos Boulevard was an entertaining one. Kudos for some spirited, comedic and passionate opinion.
I'm in agreement that early Maiden is underrated, NOB is overrated and, obviously, everyone has their opinions.
Yet.
Back In The Village is a MONSTER. Everything on Powerslave is 12 on a 10 scale...
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is THE PINNACLE of the bands career. It's the Oscar winner. It's the World record-attaining Olympic GOLD. It's the woman you should marry. It's just UNDENIABLE.
... and as for loving ANYTHING in the 90s, or trying to hold it up against anything between 81 and 88, well... Can we just not?
But you're a great presenter. Many sterile TV chumps could learn a few things from your channel. Keep it up. Xx
Couldn't agree more mate - Seventh Son is fuckin' awesome imo but Razor's demolition of it is, like all of his stuff, still riotously entertaining and I will defend to the death his right to hate it 😂
First maiden member who couldn’t handle a world tour...Paul Diano!
First Maiden singer to get them a world tour, Paul Dianno.
the first 2 Maiden albums are great. And Paul was a great singer. and had attitude bar none. and I would say MTV playing the videos from Beast was a huge factor in the success, not Bruce being in the band. that being said, Bruce's voice and stage presence elevated the band.
You should definetly do Black Sabbath and give some special attention for the post-Ozzy albums/line-ups.
The Final Frontier and A Matter of Life of Death are phenomenal albums. I guess our standards are pretty different, I think Maiden's longer more melodic/folk tunes are the best pieces of music ever written. My personal favorites: Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Isle of Avalon, Starblind, Paschendale, The Legacy, and Alexander the Great, and Out of the Silent Planet. Anyway, I enjoy your content Razor. Up the irons!!
Final Frontier really grew on me. The live dvd for that tour is phenomenal.
En Vivo has got to be one of Iron Maiden's best live dvd performances ever. My one regret from that tour was they started before Final Frontier was released in America (at least California anyway) so when they rolled through they only played El Dorado live. Man, I would give anything to see Isle of Avalon performed live by Maiden.
Agreed.
Agreed, man. My standards really differed from the ones in the video, right around Seventh Son. I quite enjoyed that one. Chorus repeats can get annoying, sure, but I dig the shit out of the sound of it. I mean I'm also shamelessly a Rush fanboy, so that might explain my guilty pleasure in it.
Phantom no, you have to understand and appreciate musicianship to appreciate what Maiden has done since the late 80’s!! They keep evolving and putting out great music!! Some people that have no understanding of music don’t like when rock/Metal bands evolve!! It’s really not there fault they can’t understand what real musicianship is about. I like AC/DC but they are an example of being stuck in the same format. Every album sounds the same. Thing that gets me is when this guy did the one on W.A.S.P., he seen and appreciated where Blackie evolved as a musician with The Headless Children & The Crimson Idol, so why now can he not see & appropriate that with Maiden!!
Fell out of my chair at the 7th Heaven.
That's his best joke in any single one of these Mythos episodes, had me in stitches for sure
I’m curious to think what Razor would think of Dickinson’s solo career especially accident of birth, chemical wedding and tyranny of souls. I think there’s a lot of good songs there.
Great songs. I remember some younger guys I know saying "Did you know Bruce did some solo albums? I bet they suck."
Nope. I told them they should listen to them, and they are in fact kick ass.
Assumptions.
Maiden Rules.
Quite right about D'Anno's vocals and his upper range. That bit played on 'Twilight' reminds me of old Uriah in a positive way.
Man, I don't give a fuck, I love Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. 2nd favorite album after Somewhere in Time, and I think the latter may only win because I love the cover art so much.
AkuTenshiiZero 7th Son , Number and Somewhere are constantly played in my car stereo. Overrated my ass
They're both dog shit.
@@thecoderofyoutube They are both the shit yes!
@@thecoderofyoutube Oh you are on drugs mate. Somewhere in time sucks? whats your favourite album then?
Razor I am really loving these "Mythos" vids.... Would love to see your take on KISS in a Mythos episode :)
Meh. Waste of his talent.
My personal favorite has always been Somewhere in time followed by Powerslave.
Just saw them in Australia and they are rocking hard!! Excellent tour!
I prefer Paul Di'Anno for the first two albums. I don't really care for Dickinson doing the older tunes. However, I just LOVE Bruce's voice for all the others.
I liked a lot of bands from the era like Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Kiss, but I never got into Iron Maiden.
omg..... I just have to say as a maiden fan I have to salute the love for fates warning.... I may not agree with everything but dude, I actually paused the video to comment, awesome
Killers album cover has been my desktop background since my first cpu!
You know, you could download a higher resolution these days 😋
I enjoy all of the albums in Bruce's first run with Maiden, but the Paul Di'Anno records are just untouchable.
To be fair to Moonchild, ACCEPT ripped off the melody to "Aces High" for the main riff of "Aiming High" on their album Russian Roulette (which came out the year before Seventh Son), so I suspect Maiden might've been out for some petty revenge.
If anyone has anything that could debunk this fun little theory, feel free to lay it on me.
And to ALSO be fair both Futureal and The Wicker Man ripped off the main riff from Judas Priest’s Running Wild
Could just be that there's a ceiling to originality when it comes to Speed Metal in E Standard. But yeah, I noticed that when I listen to Aiming High.
@@doodlebob3758
Upon reflection, I think it's cyclical.
Iron Maiden ripped off "Flash Rockin' Man" for "2 Minutes to Midnight".
So ACCEPT rips off "Aces High" for "Aiming High" off the same album.
So Maiden rips off a song from Animal House for "Moonchild".
Then Adrian Smith leaves Maiden after 7th Son drops, who was the writer on BOTH songs, so that's probably what broke the cycle.
The best Maiden live album is the full bootleg version of 'Maiden Japan'
I agree...Iron Maiden and Killers ...with that unpolished sound...are still my fav!
I liked Bruce too and went to every show!!...but Seventh Son was the last album I bought...lost intrest...it took Avenged 7 to remake Flash of the Blade decades later to remind me how good Maiden was..Then!!
Respect for a decent appreciation of the Dianno version of the band. Unlike many of you, this was the version I grew up with in the early 80s. It was the Dickinson version that I could never warm to. And still can't.
12:35 truth. That was my first Maiden album and for a solid decade I never listened to another Maiden album. And then I listened to Killers and Powerslave.
You're genuinely telling me that goddamn Futureal is better than Back in the Village?!
Sorry razorfist, I respectfully disagree about the recent Maiden stuff. I love just about everything from Brave New World on.
I am a huge Iron Maiden fan and a huge (though new) Razorfist fan. Even though I am obviously a lot happier with Maiden's work than you are Razor, I have huge respect for your thoughts and opinions, and I love each and every "Fuck you, I was right!"
I just like the character of Dickinson’s voice. He sounds like a character from a Charles Dickens’s novel or a snarling, operatic pirate. Di’anno is fine, somewhat pitchy, but honestly I don’t like his vocal personality quite as much as Dickinson. It’s good to hear Razor’s take though. With no social media, I didn’t think there was anyone who had regret that the band replaced Di’anno.
The first two albums are also some of the only metal records the former Count Grishnackh listens to on the regular
