Gotta Clean the Choke on Your Carburetor!

  • When my trusty 1985 Buick Regal got pressed into service the other day, it didn't exactly do what it was supposed to do. Instead, it acted as if it never came off the choke. After a quick look under the hood I found that my choke was in fact held up. Sometimes the cars you drive occasionally give you you issues too.
So here's my solution, I degreased the choke mechanisms and greased it up with some white lithium grease and I it seems to be working like it's supposed to! The Rochester 2 bbl carburetor has been pretty solid and this is the first real problem that it's given me in quite some time!
Remember to take car of the cars that sometimes get neglected too!

My 3.8 is giving me hell in my Cutlass, can you upload a video of your vacuum line setup on your carb

I've de-emissioned mine. It's got the PCV, power brakes, the vacuum advance, the vacuum modulator, and the climate control system. What year is yours? If it's the computer controlled years, there's a whole host of possibilities.

@@SnowFamilyRacing I actually went back in time to an earlier carb set up because of the electric issues with that carb with the plugs in it!,,, I have a 83 Cutlass with the 3.8.. I was looking at your set up I appreciate it!

Yep, this one had the electric 2 bbl and distributor, I believe I spec'd it out as 1979 parts to make it easy to service down the road.

I'm dealing with my carb back firing. The butterfly doesn't open up when I turn key is does that mean I have a bad choke? When I put Screw driver to hold butterfly open it cranks up then it stalls and backfire... I did a swap from my 4.1 in my 82 regal and bought a 3.8l from a 84-87 regal. Did a rebuilt on the engine and I'm now just trying to get it to run and idle a bit before I button everything up..

Before you rule out the choke, make sure you're getting power to it. Start by checking for the proper 12V at the right key position, you'll probably want a good wiring diagram if you need to chase it up the harness.

I got my transmission rebuilt and my carburetor was not running properly. So I installed a new carburetor 1984 colors. Supreme, it ran good but had a high idol. So I sprayed some carb cleaner on the throttle body that I don't went low and I adjusted the screw on the right side. Whatever screw, whatever it is that Aaron taker whatever. But it's not wanting to start now. What could be the problem, sir? Nineteen eighty four cutlass supreme three point eight

Sorry about the language I'm using the microphone and it seems to not catch me very well but I adjusted the throttle body screw and it don't wanna start anymore and I also replace the field pump to me. It seems like it's not getting any gas

So I adjusted that Aaron takes crew. I should have watched this video before. I mess with anything because my car had a high idol. And I sprayed the car cleaner. The idle went too load, so I adjusted that screw. And now it on a start. So I figured it was a Fuel pump and change that out still don't want to start seems like it's not getting any gas and the throttle body that door that swings open it barely remove. D it don't open very much like the one on the Rego. It's open halfway mind, don't even open up a quarter. It opens up about a eighth of an inch.
