  • For those who maybe encountering this little minor problem, or for those who want to prevent it from happening in the future - well here it is. In this video I discuss the potential problems that can arise from a sticking choke and all the linkages that make it work, and ways to fix it.

    Nice video. But there's more to this story that may also cause high ideal. The secondary throttle plates may be sticking slightly open. This was my problem. It took taking the whole carb off to thoroughly clean the carbon deposits holding the throttle open.

    For someone who is only 25 like me your switched on with your knowledge of these cars I only came across your channel today here in Australia we deal with fuel injection more so than carby systems and is great to learn a little about these systems
    I'm glad someone is saying WD40 isn't good for exposed engine parts that need to be somewhat clean for good operations I had used it once on my throttle body and it created a large build up or grime Australian Caprice is called a Holden caprice great looking cars but nothing like yours Aussie cars are mostly rear wheel drive (more fun )

      Well I hope you enjoy my channel, the Holden Caprice (uses Chevrolet name plate here) has started to make its way to Canada. Infact there are a few law enforcement agencies around here that are using them now since Ford's Crown Victoria is now obsolete (2011) and I agree RWD will always be the way to go.
      Anyway Cheers mate!

    Try and adjust ur choke plate.(black choke cover on pass side of carb w the 3 screws. Cuz I literally just had same issue with my new(remanufactured) quadrajet i was bouta go back to oreillys n slap em w it 😆 anyways ima newbie when it comes to carbs and I feel like I've accomplished something by doing this but i realized I had it set lean(to the left of the notches on choke housing.) Not even in the notch area lol And i moved it CW and it stopped idling so high AND quit jumping back to high idle. And it started running the way it should 👍😃...you may have to adjust ur fast idle a bit(while still cold) but it should help! hope this helps anybody

    Hey TheYoshiClan sorry to bother you however I have a 1987 chevy caprice classic with an olds 307 and a quadrajet which is giving me some trouble. The vehicle drove fine for the past year or so (with the exception of some hesitation when moving from a stop) However, recently the vehicle will just not drive over 40mph, It will bog and/or stutter until eventually the engine just stalls and I need to pull over. The engine idles fine and revs great when not under any load. The accell pumps seem to be working fine and I don't appear to have any vacuum leaks. Any insight? Possible issue with the secondaries? Or should I just rebuild the entire carb?
    Thanks!..

  • @macthewind
    @macthewind 2 года назад

    Very good information, is it possible that the EMC computer is the problem? I'm going to try your recommendations today. I just purchased the car a few weeks ago and at first everything was idling fine, within about a week it got really cold and the high idling stated and would not kick down. The car was recently undercoated.

    How do I adjust my idol adjustment screw properly. I was having a problem with my engine stalling at every stop sign so we adjusted it up to keep it from stalling now the stalling problem is fixed but I believe the screw needs to go down more or up more because I am having the dieseling problem and I know the carburetor choke is not engaging to the proper low idle and I believe it's because of screw needs to go down more or up more

  • @catgolfer1
    @catgolfer1 5 лет назад

    My problem is the opposite. It kicks down and, until it fully warms up, wants to die. Especially when I go to put it in drive. It's a Quadrajet on a 454 Chevy. But looking at the video I believe I have linkage problems. I have great vacuum and no leaks anywhere. The motor has 99k miles on it. Maybe time for a new rebuild. David 🐈

      Gotta set ur idle screw on drivers side of carb. Get a buddy or ur wife/husband? With the car warmed up Have them put car in neutral, THEN start it w the ac on and then adjust the idle screw in small increments til it gets to the desired RPMS. And with engine cold adjust ur choke plate(black cover on choke housing on pass side w) if necessary

    You’re a god.
    I just pulled over at a light and jumped out because my car was a tap away from full throttle, I hit the coke and saw it snap and the revving backed off. Scared the shit out of me man, then it dieseled.
    Omw to grab some carb cleaner. Is there ANY lubricant that I could use or just the carb cleaner and I’m good?

    • @dansmith6990
      @dansmith6990 3 года назад +1

      you typically don't need any lubricant, as that will attract the dust/dirt that caused the issue in the first place. That being said, some graphite spray should help you, it's dry and doesn't attract dirt. If you're cheap, just rub pencil lead (which is graphite) alone the moving points of the linkage and that should help :-)
