I often think about this comment when watching stuff these days - no life story and no stupid music. I can't tell you how many clips on youtube I watch where I have to fast forward 7 minutes before the guy starts talking about what he's actually there to talk about.
@@richardbergquist3887 I was really wondering what Bill had for lunch the day he made that video though! /s My general rule of thumb is to skip the first 3rd of the video.

This is BY FAR the most informative and instructional video on RUclips on 2150’s! This helped me a ton to setup my carb’s choke the right way! Thank you.
Bill, I want to thank you for making a video which accurately describes how the carb works and you are articulate enough to use concise, descriptive words such as "relation" to make the adjustments make sense.
Thank you for taking the time to make this. Your patient explanation really took the mystery out of the auto choke and helped me solve a few issues with my Mustang. Videos like this are the best reason to watch you tube!
This video answered all the questions that occurred when I spotted the auto choke for the first time. I feel like it went from a mystery object to knowing all about it.
thank you for the excellent video on 2100 series carb choke adjustments. i will be doing some work on my 1983 mercury cougar 3.8 making necessary carb adjustments to get the idle correctly done.
I have been battling trying to set up the 2100 on the wife’s 71 F250. Lots of info out there on set this and that, but I never understood why/how the relationship works. I can’t wait to start over on the settings this weekend and hopefully solve my issues. Fantastic descriptions, explanations and video work SHOWING each aspect. This is the only video that does it all concisely! Thanks for all the dummies trying to learn this!
F8nally a video explaining it in detail and easily for a newbie to understand.. thanks. I rebuilt my 2100 but for months i couldnt het the choke or fast idle to work right.. everyone else doesnt explain it very well
All of my life i always knew when an electronic choke worked & did not work. Now i have an understanding of how it actually works. I wasnt sure if anyone in the whole world knew how. Thank you 😊
You’re awesome! Best carb video ever! The only thing is, could you demonstrate the actual proper settings of those excellent explanations you made in this video? I now understand the basics of setting screws in each area but the actual setting they need to be at for a proper general set up would be really helpful even further. Thanks for sharing your knowledge about this topic!!! Just at basic Fall into Winter setting vs a Spring into Summer setting. That would help tremendously!
I hope someday EVERY video on RUclips is this accurate! I've been working on cars since 1978 and I'm often amazed at how much crap info is floating out there.
Man, I've been fighting Motocraft carburetors since I was 16 years old and you just clarified what has mystified every mechanic I've ever talked to about this. Thanks!
1st.thing. Thank You Mr. Robertson. This is the only instructional video you need. I know certified instructors who would greatly benefit from viewing this info.
WOW, very awesome video. Great teaching sir, very easy to understand. For the first time I actually understand the choke and fast idle stuff and now feel comfortable tomorrow morning setting it on this truck I'm working on. Thank you very much for your time, God Bless!!
Outstanding explanation for a non-car guy like me. I have a 68 Galaxie fastback w original engine/carb/intake, etc. and the choke was basically stuck, so the spring didn’t move anything as it heated up. Taking this apart made me nervous but it worked- so car can now start without keeping accelerator pedal floored. Now I just have no fast idle at all so I will try turning it that screw underneath the choke mechanism IF I CAN REACH IT.
Thank you so much for posting this. Would have never figured this out unless I spent some serious time researching this and experimenting. Wanna keep the old ford going for as long as possible.
Wow this is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for this explanation. I have a 66 mustang and I needed to adjust the choke at start up. This is super helpful
Thank you thank you Bill. I will be readjusting my choke this weekend. I finally understand the mechanics behind this crazy carb. And hopefully my car will finally purr.
I have no words to discribe how well this video explain the automatic choke. Best video on utube take it from some that learned all of that back in 1976 from my uncle who had a carburator shop and I worked at his shop working only on vehicles with carburator problems
I dont normally comment but thank you. I've always had trouble understanding choke adjustments and everyone has their own method but you gave a complete breakdown and understanding. So thank you and great video.
Bill Robertson, In just a few minutes of your video, I learned more than just from reading all the Carb Rebuilt kit instructions, all the youtube videos, and all the websites calling themselves "pro". I believe that people just don't want anyone to understand or they just don't have the ability to explain the topic. Thank you for the calmness and professionalism you shared. So much appreciated Best regards, Raf
Thank you Bill, you shared a log of light on the operation of a 2100/2150 carburator and how to adjust numerous of things i never fully understood. Greetings from the Netherlands
Prefect explanation why I have to force my choke closed on NEW carb.. till it warms up... (in other words) don't let relatives adjust your new carb when you first put it on. so now i can adjust this tomorrow so it works properly..
Y O U ARE A W S O ME !!! Bought a new 2100 for my 66 Mustang. It went well a while until I moved to a colder place. Got several "mechanics" on it to recover cold start behaivior - no one could realy improve it. But after watching your instructions I did it and it works. Great video. Perfect. Thank you
I'm new and learning all of this for the first time. So, please be patient with me. I have a stock, 1967 Mustang. With a stock 289, 2 barrel stock carburetor. Right now, when it has a cold start, it runs at 1000 rpm. When warm, it runs 1100 rpm. I've been told, it should be 700-750 rpm on a cold start. And 600 - 650 rpm after it's warmed up. I played with the fast idle screw and got it down to around 800 rpm cold. But it keeps dieing. I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. If I have to keep my foot on the gas, it's hard to adjust the screw at the same time. So I have to wait till the car cools off each time to adjust the screw, and try again. This will take forever. And I don't know if I'm even doing it right to start with. So I turn the fast idle screw to the right to increase my rpm at cold start up. Then turn the throttle adjustment screw to the left, to slow down the warm idle rpms. Is this correct? Also, the screw on the plastic piece connecting the choke to the idle cam, on mine is all like wet noodles in there. I can move parts all over and it don't move anything else. Want to make a trip to Ohio and teach me what I'm doing wrong?
Great video. However, I'd like to add some info to the choke cap portion. Bill's correct in that adjusting the cap will change how long (time) the fast idle is engaged. He doesn't really fully explain the why. As you know on OEM caps there is a rich and lean directional arrow with rotation. So both are correct. When turned counterclockwise Bill correctly indicates that the warmup time will be longer. The "why" is because the butterfly will be closed more, thus providing a richer environment which correlates with the cap directional arrows. A richer environment does not burn as hot and therefore will take longer to heat up exhaust temps and this longer for the cap thermostat spring to expand and longer time spent in fast idle choke. Rotating the cap the other direction (clockwise) will thus decrease the warmup time. Bill is correct here too. The butterfly will be open more and thus a leaner environment will be created and correlate to the cap arrows. A leaner environment will burn hotter and exhaust temps will rise quicker, shortening cap spring expansion time and distance. All in all, a superb video for explanation of the 2100 and 2150 function!
Great video, very good explanation. What I’m missing is a step by step procedure, because I find it quite hard to get all the linkages work together as intended. My problem is, if I set the choke housing to specified mark, the opening after stepping on the throttle and the opening under pull off, the flap doesn’t fully open when hot. Also, the engine dies for a few tries directly after startup.
This is how an instructional video should be done. He speaks slowly, he’s concise, no stupid music and no life story. Excellent!!!!
i second the motion...

For sure, way better than any shop manual.
Best Motorcraft Carburetor video on YT!
Bottle this guys blood for the future generations.
I have learned so much from this one video is insane how well explained all of this was.
BRILLANT! Carb adjustment had always been a complicated mystery to me. I fully understand everything now, and I am no longer intimidated.
Bill, I want to thank you for making a video which accurately describes how the carb works and you are articulate enough to use concise, descriptive words such as "relation" to make the adjustments make sense.

Stumbled across this video, and now all my choke questions are answered. Going to tinker with Motorcraft 4300....Thanks so much
i feel like he's defending a dissertation on Carb operation. So informative, so eye-opening. Brilliant.
Do you do a video on tuning the carburetor with a vacuum gauge? This video was excellent.
Thank you so much for such a detailed explanation. Super helpful.

I'm having same issue with mine. Or on the first press of throttle, it won't fully close the choke plate.
Very well explained thank you very educational
great video. thank you for explanation. 🙏
Great video helped me understand
Always put the choke in your freezer for about 20 minutes then install it on the carb. This way you will get a good start for the cold position.
Very well done Bill! I will get to work on a choke that is not opening onthe start up cycle (1981 Jeep CJ5 V8-304 MC2150)
OUTSTANDING
Amazing clear video thanks for sharing! Now if you had one on tuning a carbureted engine for best daily driving performance that would be so helpful
Fantastic Video..Thank You
Thanks for sharing this info with me 🎉🎉
And some of the older ones had a heat riser tube from the intake manifold to the choke that you did not cover.
Wow, by jove, I think I got it. Very, very informative, thanks 😊
Great video, thanks for sharing. 🍻👍
Thnx. Very well in detail explaned.
