Tracking on this beast is phenomenal. I cannot begin to explain how much the feels are after working it for nearly a decade. Many pieces I will never regret using this. Lately I've exported all my projects and deleted them from the MV 8800 for safety on a personal computer. One day will bring them back to the MV and retrace everything to ableton. This is to be expected after learning Ableton for a few years. Still use the drum pads for their midi sync into an interface with the DAW. Also went to a high school and the abbreviation of my school was MV . My experience with this was so lively and fun
Mannnn! The MV-8800 is a True Master! I got mine in 08’, maxed out the RAM to 512MB, doubled the HDD to 80GB and this machine is a BEAST. Never crashed or failed on me once. I first learned on the MPC but, once I got my MV and negotiated the learning curve, man the features and options are abundant to tweak and massage this all in one tool. It allows your creation to be organic warm and phat and swing with the natural pendulum of sound. The MPC was more difficult for me to use due to its lack of intuitiveness, buried and hidden controls, and tiny display. The MV challenged me to try something I wasn’t comfortable with and I’m I glad I did. Been making human grooves on this mutha every since no matter how long it’s been in between time when I fire it up! Knowledge that! Right on and rock on to you and Mike!
Word up man great post...I got the 8800 I love it glad I switched over in 2012 ..thought about the Ren and maschines but I'm not to into the computer controller way..when I did my homework and seen what the mv could really do I was hooked plus with the screen and mouse was a added plus...the mv started the whole trend of where it's at now ima stay with old grand dad lol...
Got the MV8000 and MC 909 at Sam Ash $500.00. The guy who owned the MV took great care of it. It almost looked new, had the manual, mouse and CDs. Using it more then the Maschine(over priced).
Mannnnnn... I wanted one of those so bad when they initially came out but couldn't swing that price tag Guitar Center was asking. But I do remember asking the sales guy about it and that I was definitely interested in it. First thing he said was "Dude, I'm so glad you'd wanna go this route!" He said he was tired of hearing folks say if you don't have an MPC then you ain't serious about your music. Well things have improved for me financially quite well, I'm blessed to say. I have the Maschine Studio and just got the MPC Touch since they're cutting the price due to the DISTANT FUTURE RELEASE of the MPC's X and Live!😆 I'm gonna check EBay to see what I can find either on the 8000 or 8800. Thanks for your video, very good demo without OVERTALK!!👍🏾👊🏾 Keep up the good work!!
Yooo. Nice vids bro. I'm actually a 20 year old and I have a passion for music. I got a customized mv8000 as a gift for Christmas and I was a 15 year old. I made a couple of beats but really know the potential it had. I just wanted to tell you your videos really do help and in going to try to start making fire beats and samples. Looking at your videos gave me some sense in direction. This is coming from Texas.
+james67707 the MV-8000 is standalone but you need some way to get sounds into it. You could make a beat entirely with the preloaded sounds but I think you'd run out of sounds quickly
Thanks for the video. I picked up an MV8000 for $150 because the shop couldn't figure out how to wipe the hard drive. It took me one weekend to eventually find the reinitialize button. Now I just need to figure out what this thing does. Lol.
That's a steal bro. Take your time and have fun because it does a lot. Read the manual. I didn't read the manual until I was two years in...really wish I started with the manual lol
Just got an Mv 8800 crossed over from Mpc. Hands down the best machine I've had. The lack of knowledge f how to operate the Mv is why mpc users hate!!!
Yup, so true. If people had spent a little more time digging in this machine would have popped off and gotten more updates and support. I kind of like using something very few others use though.
lol, its not popular coz it sounds bad, and does not have individual outs... no usage in pro studio. Its not slept on. Poeple notice new things and check them out. If its bad, its just bad.
weird last time I checked you can purchase individual outs as an upgrade lol similar to mpc 2000xl. thats why the new mpc x is a newer version and obviously a better version of the mv 8800 does the same exact shit and more. so before you claim the mv 8800 wasn't slept on think
So Yamaha Rs7k was also slept on ? Or Akais 2500, 5000 ? Why so few was ever REALY using them ? You claim that the lack of knowledge is stoping MPC fans to use it ? Like what, they are retarded or sth ? :D If something is good, but hard to use, people still use it, look Dx7 for example. Roland was never on spot with sampling, but even the shittiest Akais have fans. The sound is just... transparent ? I think people like MPC till today for swing and sound. Sp 1200 for workflow and dirty buzzing sound. Ensoniqs for efx, or dirt ( mirage ) dark sound, amazing pitching system. And Rolands ? They do plenty of things, but does not have one strong side, that will put them apart. Still, this thing beat all those Korg shitty samplers, that are somehow so popular right now.
Chrząszczyświerszcz Chrabąszczyżowąski exactly my point all these dip shits know only about Akai mpcs. I have 2 Akai mpcs, 2 ensoniq Asr 10s, 1 ensoniq eps 16+, 1 mv 8800, I've owned variety of MPCS and Roland SPs. The MV is a giant SP. and the sound is thick and bassy if you know how to use it correctly. Sound is not transparent. I'm not even trying to argue with you lol. MV has better fx than most of the samplers you listed. But I'm intelligent enough to understand ensoniq Asr 10 fx out classes all of them.
I really love your production , can you do tutorial about sound design and editing...this is one subject not covered enough on youtube.. thanks brother.
Thank you sir! Unfortunately my MV is pretty beat up with several buttons not working including the shift button. I keep wishing Roland would make an updated version with the same exact features and workflow but for now I’ve been using the MPC and even the iPad, although with two kids my team on the beats has been reduced significantly lol!
@@RyanMillerSPbrah I got 2 MV8800s cuz I know eventually things will start to go. I already fixed the STOP button on one of them. Just added a silent fan to. The workflow on the MV is unmatched. I bought my first one in 2007. I’ve used Logic, Studio One, BeatMaker2, Koala, SP404, SP303, Ableton, FL, Reaper, aaaaaaaaaaand I always come back to the MV. If you know how to work the MFX and Mastering you can get your beats to really knock
Just got a Mv 8800 from a pawn shop for $200 I had my eye on it for like 2 years. It started out somewhere $900 then over time I realized it was still there so I made a bold offer and they took it. It works great I just need to upgrade the memory. Don't like how hard the pads are compared to the mpc tho . The way the MV chops beats naturally is how I rigged Ableton to do but I had to use a midi controller with and encoder with notches to program the start times. I thought I had a secret method only to realize that the MV does it normally like that which is a plus.
Damn that's what's up! Can't go wrong for 200. Get a monitor and mouse for it and you have a beast on your hands. I tend to agree about the pads they are a little thin and stiff but I've been banging mine for almost 10 years and it's still working fine so the longevity is there.
+rakkfatha you lucky sob I had an 8000 back in 07 and got rid of it to pay rent , been regretting it ever since I'm planing on picking up another one soon
+rakkfatha damn lol 200 hundred lol you got lucky as fuck lol or the pawn shop didn't know what they really had 8800's still go for 500+ especially with maxed memory, and if there's an mv8-op1 installed you're talking a 1000.00 + then. I never seen an MV8800 for 200 unless a crack head is selling it lol
Yo great vid,had my 8000 for 3years.also mp 5000 an 2000xl.but when I dump from my 5000 into the MV.that's when shit gets heavy.I start creating some great Records. I use my MV as the main sequence in my home studio. An trust me I Get the best results in my musical production... Thanks again for the video...
Just got the mv 8800 myself, awesome machine, got it down pretty quick it is slept on and i think people didn't have the patience with it, got some beats on my channel I done with the mv if you fancy a listen.
I'm the real deal "love the MV 8000 Roland is the leader and ahead of it's time when first release 24 bit 128 tracks rocking with my MPC X and Machine Plus along my that i called Million Plus recording studio unlimited tracks.
thats my all in one when i dont want to mess with the asr keyboard and need more editing functions i get the mv out its like a cross between the mpc in the pad region and chopping but it chops better and editing its close to the asr
On the MV you can get the MPC style swing and a SP-1200 swing you just have to understand the time signature symbols that are used for the quantize, its super easy and ITS REAL-TIME in a sense you can massage the quantize in real-time or you can apply a different quantize to every drum sound within 1 kit.
Ryan Miller Not a problem, you make some very valid points that people have totally slept on. To this day the MV still does things that other hardware does not. If people were to step outside their comfort zone they would be amazed at what they could do.
I'm an old school keyboard drummer and, the one thing that drives me absolutely insane are the guys who have to rely on the quantizer to get the groove they want to hear. If I can't play it, I do it over and over until I can.
I got one of these... it does knock hard, but my less sophisticated 2000xl does too!!! I got the MPC Ren to replace them both, but never did. The Ren has been in the box under the table for the most part. Don't get me wrong, the Ren is nice. My work flow is just faster on the XL and MV..I might just be too old school. LOL! I felt the same way you did though...400 bucks for the MV8800 used from guitar center... I had to khop it. Great Video!
I never rocked with a 2000xl, I want one because I'm a gear junkie but the budget is tight. When the ren 2 comes out I'm going to have some serious fundraising to do haha, heard that joint is going to be standalone.
ruclips.net/video/Mw-9-XWTpHY/видео.html check that video out. It shows what people think might be the ren 2. Supposedly it is stand alone and works with the computer. Looks cool but might be expensive...
Im trying to decide to get this or an mpc 1000. The 1000's portability seems so nice but i guess it wouldn't be too hard to lug this thing to a friends house.
1000% agree, When Roland produce Drum Machines Os are Pro and hardware easy to deal with, not like Akai MPC 5000 with a single Os update, I already get that crap some where, don't really used any more, sorry MPC lovers, I know what's MPC lovers are thinking about MPC X, yes is an aceptable MV 8000/8800 Copy.
Great video! Quick one-How do I get the sample to play with the sounds in the unit? The sample is on Audio track and the Midi are the sounds? They don't play together, Probably simple step. I would appreciate learning! thx!
You can place a sample on either an audio track or a midi track. Both have their pros and cons. In general an audio track is better for longer samples and midi is good for one shots. It depends though. Is that what you were asking?
After all of these years, trying to save up money each month, I finally got the chance to get one! It's coming tomorrow!!! 😁 For anyone that's wondering why it took so long; all I can say is bills man... Bills...
Yea brother idk the record button when i hit it and try to record it says can record in timbre mode even to fix the mode i fix the recording perimeter either brother i dont know whats up
Even though I love the MV-8000 I think you would get more bang for your buck with the ren. The ren is easy to learn, more support, more tutorials, updates, and vst which gives you lots of sounds. With the Mv there are a few stock sounds but you would need to spend time and money building your sound library whereas the ren comes with vsts. You need a computer to work with the ren though so as long as you have a computer get the ren.
Similar in some aspects, different in others. The mpc ren is a controller while the MV-8000 is a standalone unit. The MV being older is going to feel more dated since the ren uses software that is still being updated and the mv is discontinued.
Is this still open? If so. Do you know where I cam buy a roland mv. I heard a lot of things about it and my boy said if I get one to make sure it has the vga on it already. Get back to me if you cannhelp
sal silva the mv8800 comes with the vga expansion. The mv8000 did not have vga originally but there was an add on for it. If you want vga look for an 8800. You can find them on ebay for a few hundred.
What's going on Ryan? I'm looking at your Roland MV-8000 video. Great demo video Brother! But Ryan what I want to know is, does the machine have other instruments already in it besides the drums? Or do you have to sample bass and guitars sounds from vinyl, Cds, etc. Let me know whenever you have sometime to spare.
I have one about sampling from an ipad/iphone. Thats one way to do it. You can also connect a midi device to it. Another option is to import a sound and use the make keyboard function and you can play it on the pads like a keyboard.
DOE LA Evans can you post a quick video of the screen you are stuck on and maybe I can help out? not sure exactly what you are experiencing for an issue here...a video would help
it is slept i think its the learning curve that made it slept on its not one of those drum machines you jump on and bang out some stuff in a few minutes your gonna need time and instruction and patience
Nice to see some balanced opinion, as a Maschine user my initial thoughts are its huge ! not such a bad thing though. You are right people get way to emotional about what the best thing is, keep making beats :)
+Colossal DJ thanks man. I rock with the maschine as well and you are right, the mv is huge but that's kind of why I like it in a weird way. It just feels so solid haha
Ryan,it aint that serious..I have the Roland MV8800,and my buddy uses MPCs and we have no issues working on something. That's what intelligent people do,they can coexist, and they will never make a big deal about a brand name.I mean, even if you did say the MV is better,so what?Someone can not agree, yet it doesnt matter to me,because unless you are buying my gear,I wouldn't give a damn if you get pissed, want to debate, etc, because there's nothing they can do about it.Point being,I have 4 samplers, and I use MAc AND PCs,among other platforms. If someone out there is upset about your views on a RUclips video, they probably need a hug,a life, and some medication.Point is,there's NO need for disclaimers and if they make funky comments,so what????I can name any piece of gear and say I think it sucks, and the ONLY thing someone can do is disagree,if I even allow them to address me.People have gotten to a point that because of the Internet, tney think their doctrines and belief matter. Then out in the real world, much of the time, they have nothing to say, invent nothing innovate nothing,etc...
Ayo!!! Im IZiz and I just got this MV-8000 last week for $320 w/the VGA upgrade. im from San Diego, CA and been fightin for this music since highschool (class of 98 what up yo!!!). HAAAAA!!! don't trip on my age now. some may consider me a raisin but i'll touch that chinny chin chin!!! also I wont front, im transitioning from.....well you know...uh....FL Studio (OK, there I said it!!! Ya bitches happy now!!!!) but don't get it fucked up, I made some cRaCkin ass shit on there. I done fucked wit equipment too but had to get rid of it due to financial situations. im trying to find a tutorial on how to load samples from CD step by step as well as vinyl. any help is much appreciated and if you want to judge my iSsh go ahead. I can take it REAL TALK. we on soundcloud under the name " iZzLo " (that's how i spell it ma'fucka!!!)
Uhhhhh no! Mfs can do everything on a pc that you are using that big piece of ish to do. But I use my MPC 2000 Studio Plus. It's small af compared to that big mf 80s typewriter looking ish. My MPC came out in 1997. Yet that massive ish looks like it came out in the 80s.
The fact that you can find one of these for about $500 nowadays is nuts. It's a serious machine.
The most slept on machine in the game
only because it was expensive as bleep when it dropped
@@187onasimp not really, the mpc 4000 was 200 bucks more

Thanks Wax! You're and MV legend on here. I picked up a lot of good tips from you.
I'm an old school keyboard drummer and, the one thing that drives me absolutely insane are the guys who have to rely on the quantizer to get the groove they want to hear. If I can't play it, I do it over and over until I can.
Thanks for the input I'm looking into getting one myself what's the difference between 8000 8800?
Otoniel Peralta 8800 already has the vga/mouse expansion and 8 outputs. There is more but those are the big ones
Hey man long time no see etc. Don't suppose you know about playing a sample loaded on the MV chromatically using an external keyboard?
Do you know of any way to put effects only on the samples and not on everything in general? For example put delay on some horns only?
Ryan Miller there is going to be a Ren 2 ?
ruclips.net/video/Mw-9-XWTpHY/видео.html check that video out.
+Phillip Morrison the MV isn't that bad to lug around. I know I've done it. Definitely not a small piece of gear though
Feel you
Cant decide between the Mc909 or MV8000
I've never used a 909 in depth enough to say one way or another.
been looking for something to make my beats on bcus i am sick of jumping through hoops with software and pc crashes.
Just bought one for $221..Memory 512mb HD 120 GiGsVga upgrade installed and Ver 3.53Rogue music NYC
That's a steal right there man. Get crackin and make some heat
It's dope
+Cire Irby was that the one with tape over the record player input? any chance?
Cire Irby -from where?
Anyone able to help me? Cant get any sound to come in when sampling from turntable or phone? Tried a couple things but no luck. Any help appreciated 👍
After all of these years, trying to save up money each month, I finally got the chance to get one!
It's coming tomorrow!!! 😁
For anyone that's wondering why it took so long; all I can say is bills man... Bills...
Yea brother idk the record button when i hit it and try to record it says can record in timbre mode even to fix the mode i fix the recording perimeter either brother i dont know whats up
For a beginner which machine would you recommend MPC Renaissance Or MV 8000 ?
Even though I love the MV-8000 I think you would get more bang for your buck with the ren. The ren is easy to learn, more support, more tutorials, updates, and vst which gives you lots of sounds. With the Mv there are a few stock sounds but you would need to spend time and money building your sound library whereas the ren comes with vsts. You need a computer to work with the ren though so as long as you have a computer get the ren.
How does this compare to the mpc renaissance?
Yes it has a variety of inboard sounds...brass, strings, keys...etc!
It also has a built in analog bass synth, most importantly.
Thanks Big Ryan for taking the time to help me out. You take care of yourself and be safe Brother! Thanks Again :)
i had 4 of these i am selling my backup i got a brand new 1 in condition for sale with vga $600
I have this joint how do you scale the notes
When you add the sample to the pad click on "make keyboard" and assign throughout the whole patch. I can do a quick vid if this doesn't make sense
Thanks Bro
Ryan Miller am I assigning to audio phrase or patch
Assign them to a patch this won't work on audio phrase
Can u make original beats with the mv 8000 or jus sampled beats
You can make original beats with it as well. Its diverse enough to handle a variety of workflows.
Do u have any videos to show original sounds ds in it an how to make original beats
I have one about sampling from an ipad/iphone. Thats one way to do it. You can also connect a midi device to it. Another option is to import a sound and use the make keyboard function and you can play it on the pads like a keyboard.
thanks

Yo.....peace...
That thing is as big as a car!
1500 quid 2nd hand here in Ireland.
Whats up bro how are you im a mv dude too im stuck on a mode i cant record on how do i get out of that mode hit me back fam
DOE LA Evans can you post a quick video of the screen you are stuck on and maybe I can help out? not sure exactly what you are experiencing for an issue here...a video would help
Yes sir when i get home will do everytime i hit the record button its say cant record its stuck in a certain mode .thnks for the email back brother
do you ever use the onboard synth?
I've used the bass. Lots have been asking me about the onboard synth. I may have to give it a go and make a video.
how would you rate it for pad making?
+monster x it's ok...nothing like a vst but it's cool. I need to dig in a little more
it is slept i think its the learning curve that made it slept on its not one of those drum machines you jump on and bang out some stuff in a few minutes your gonna need time and instruction and patience
Agreed
sounds like some old RZA shit
Nice to see some balanced opinion, as a Maschine user my initial thoughts are its huge ! not such a bad thing though. You are right people get way to emotional about what the best thing is, keep making beats :)
+Colossal DJ thanks man. I rock with the maschine as well and you are right, the mv is huge but that's kind of why I like it in a weird way. It just feels so solid haha
yes real matos
"MV NATION". Only the REAL MV users know about that
Looks like a 4000
just burn a cd part is just cool
but over all its a monster
Is that unit really big, or are you really small? ;D
Kieren Moore both might be true
never sellin mine.
The only thing I use pro tools and logic x for is to master my shit
Uhhhhh no! Mfs can do everything on a pc that you are using that big piece of ish to do. But I use my MPC 2000 Studio Plus. It's small af compared to that big mf 80s typewriter looking ish. My MPC came out in 1997. Yet that massive ish looks like it came out in the 80s.
