Great to see a renewed interest in the beloved MV. It was always a misunderstood machine by most. But if you take time to learn its abilities, you’d swear by it. She’ll take any sounds you feed her, and cook them up like a well made batch of gumbo. Keep up the dope vids. Peace...Netm8kr
This beat is rich, more than the typical lo-fi out there. But since you get to use this machine quite a lot, would you suggest it for a beginner.I just got into production messing with DAWs and a Yamaha SU-10,was thinking upgrading to sp404,but lately i am really thinking to move on mv 8000 or mv 8800(if i could get it at 600€).I was thinking using it as a workstation with screen and mouse.
Appreciate it bro! Yeah you wouldn't hate it, these big old machines are meant to be used in that way as the center of your home setup. It's a great way to work, and honestly the effects alone are enough to make you love this machine.
Dope beat brah. Ya the phonograph MFX is similar to vinyl sim. I’ve been running my soft synth melodies through it to give that dark trippy trap feel the kids love. There is a “cassette” preset in the mastering suite that will give you that tape warmth if you don’t want to run your beat through an actual tape. There is even an parameter that controls how much hiss you hear. I’ve had my mv8800 since 07’ and just started getting into what the mastering section is capable of. I’ve been sleeping on that shit to say the least. You can get shit cracking in there. It’s basically like the Roland VS series which was the protools of the 90s. I grabbed SX about a month ago and was disappointed with the vinyl sim. Doesn’t hold a candle to the 303 and I’ve heard the OG 404 has a pretty good vinyl sim as well
Thanks man! Yeah that's something that I've seen in the mastering tab but never really experimented with it yet. Still so much to dive into and to learn, can't wait to dive deeper.
Idk how many times I can say this. Lofi is a sound wuality that can be achieved in various ways from simply holding a Mic next to a speaker or various distances with the speaker loud or catching whatever the surrounding is to fooling around with effects or changing but rates. U can achieve this with just about any sampler
Lofi the genre is different from the actual terminology in my opinion. Lofi is short for lofidelitiy which is achieved like you mentioned from a low quality source but lofi the genre I think is just an extension of Hip hop that people use to warp, pitch, modulate, phase a sample so it losses the quality. That's the big difference that you start with a semi clean (not all the time) source and add FX to make it lose its quality.
I used to want a MV-8000 when they first came onto the scene. Ended up getting another MPC but these always fascinated me. Wonder whatever happened and why they never kept the line going. This beat is fire though BTW
Thats funny, yesterday on The Day dream sounds live stream we were talking about the MV. The MV is a super underrated machine for the price. It's really capable of some really amazing stuff.
The other version of lofi is really just a jazzy sound with hiphop drums (nothing new) but.... once again adding in these effect that sound like static or rain.
how do you get to the vinyl sim though? i can only find chorus, reverb and delay when i go to the effect section... i have the machine for so long but i could never understand how to get all those effects. on the 404 you literally hold the button and scroll the knob. any help would be greatly appreciated.
The PPQ on the MV is very different and is a big complaint on this machine. Believe it or Quantize was off, so the way the machine setups the grid to its sequencer is different. I think you have to find a pocket with it, like any sampler.
As far as I know their isn't but get creative vinyl sim is just white noise with some clicks and pops. I'm sure it would be to difficult to re create that. The flutter effect is like a chorus type of modulation effect that you can simulate with a plug in.
It does have a built in bass synth it's a sampler so you place sounds in it but if I remember correctly when they first came out it did come with some sounds but these things came out years ago so if you purchase one it might not come with the original sounds
Download the original MV8000 sounds by typing Roland MV8000 into your search engine which brings you to the Roland website then you can download the sounds that were available for the MV.
This came out dope!! The MV is a beast!! I love that old Realistic tape deck!! Nice vid bruh!! Lofi in full effect!!
You heard of that brand? I was very impressed when I got it, its very clean for a tape deck.
@@chrisgalactic that's the old school Radio Shack brand sir

Yes sir!!! One of the best ever made hands down

Man that sample is crazy especially the vocal part! Great video as always man!
Thanks bro appreciate that!!!
You can resample too use multiple effects
Resampling is underated on every sampler tbh it's crazy how creative you can get with resampling
A+

You can get the same swing on the MV, I have a MPC ONE too, I've verified the swing, joint swing like SpiderMan😀😀😀
@@MrScrooge1980 😂😂
How a total production studio like the mv can be labeled as lo fi ? This beast is a keeper.
Slept on my dude the capabilities of this machine are a amazing

Good Job...I use the Filters and EQ.
The filters and eq are really really good!!!
Dope
I appreciate you! Thank you!!
You're good at this, you're on your way!
Thanks bro much love means a lot!
Awesome vid and the track is major! 💨💨💨 could I ask what stand you have for the mv8000?
Its a regular piano stand lol I got mines on Amazon amzn.to/2Cl0cUV
Like the sound, but the drums are quite stiff. I hear that on more MV beats. Is this a lack of swing on this sampler?
The PPQ on the MV is very different and is a big complaint on this machine. Believe it or Quantize was off, so the way the machine setups the grid to its sequencer is different. I think you have to find a pocket with it, like any sampler.
@@chrisgalactic and when you chop some of the drums with a little more room in front?
How do you copy and paste? I don't have the VGA, so Im trying too copy and paste from the screen
If I remember correctly you hold the copy and copy it over to another pad? It's been a while
I found out
great video, thoroughly enjoyed 👟
Appreciate it bro I'm happy you dig it!!
🔥🔥🔥 beat man. Love it. Hey I just got a MPC Live. Do you know if there’s a vinyl sim on that?

Oi bro, did you sample a Japanese record with a woman on a shipyard?
Can the MV8000 do lofi? Oh yes, it can!!
