One of the best videos out there. Its videos like this that really inspired me to quit procrastinating and just start printing back when I first started. I really want to say thanks for being an influence to my printing career!
I've done screen printing for a quite a while. Been out of it for a couple years. Saw your video while surfing the tube. Best video I've seen as far as covering all the topics. Great Job!
I was just planning to watch a couple of minutes to get an idea of what is being said but ended up watching the whole thing without even realising. Great video and perfect teaching skills man!👍🏻👏🏻
Hello Ryan, I just wanted to tell you that your teaching style is wonderful. You leave nothing to the imagination and I am able (as a newbie) to follow each step easily. Thank you so much for being so generous with your time. I added too much water to my activator first time around and got a very runny emulsion, so I will need to purchase some more. But I am having so much fun. I just keep watching all your videos and am feeling confident that I will get it eventually. Many thanks, Ellen. (From Australia)
+ellen errey thank you so much for the kind remarks Ellen! You rock!! You're absolutely right you'll get it eventually, especially if you are having so much fun :) Thank you for watching and following along! Please let me know if there is ever anything you're looking to learn specifically, we're always around to help.
Brilliant! Great starter kit. I already have a t-shirt business using vinyl and laser jet printing. I was put off by the amount of work needed to screen print. This video makes it much more understandable and less scary. I work out of my basement, so showing this in a kitchen setting was priceless. Thanks much!
i guess im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot my password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Nicholas Gerardo thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Excellent tutorial. Your tutorial is the most complete that I've ever seen and it answered questions that I had as I'm trying to learn screenprinting. Thank you you did a great job.
hi @Daniel Olorenshaw! Check out CCG they offer the DIY kits on their site and they're a little closer to home for you. www.ccg.co.nz/decorative-apparel
It really depends what you're preference is! Waterbase is easier for clean up and is a smoother creamier ink to work with but some people prefer plastisol since it's so easy to work with. Waterbase can be a little finicky since it dries out quicker than plastisol but it's lovely to print with! Call us anytime to talk it out :)
Ryonet No problem...I just finished making a screen print in which everything is made from scratch...your thorough explanation of how to lay down the emulsion and burn the image into it was extremely helpful.
Great video Ryonet but I would like to know what kind of light and wattage you are using. This is the only thing that I didn't get it. Thanks and keep the good work
Great question! Thanks for watching! Silicon is made to literally prevent things from sticking to it. So if you are trying to print on it you will need to use specific inks or a specific process that we don't carry. What item are you printing on?
Nathanael Francis Its our DIY bulb made by us, if you are in the US you can visit www.screenprinting.com to visit otherwise you can use a 500 watt halogen light or similar
Great video, learned a lot! I have a question about the white printing. Is it absolutely necessary to have that 1/16th of an inch space between the screen and shirt? I'm wanting to do white ink onto dark shirts, but would prefer to do the hinge method. Would appreciate your thoughts on if it is possible to still make high quality prints! Thanks - Lorenzo
lorenzomusic95 When printing white on dark it is actually more necessary to have off contact, its actually less necessary when printing thin inks on light shirts.
great video, with the "light safe room" if it's similar to photography darkroom, then a "tent" like the one plate camera , ultra large format photographers use would be more in line with the "beginner" philosophy, just get in the tent, which has a table and all supplies inside. if you are not sure look under topic ansel Adams, or plate camera darkroom tent.
awesome video! i just ordered a kit to kick off my own screen printing business. quick question not regarding the kit itself, but you know where i can purchase an inexpensive yet sturdy press cart like yours? Appreciate it! particle board table/desks dont hold well & i learned that the hard way :( haha
Hey there! This is our press cart that we currently have available for sale: www.screenprinting.com/screen-printing-press-cart I'm not sure of any others on the market right now, but any surface that you can comfortably put your press on and print from should work! You're just looking to make sure that you can print without any back or shoulder discomfort.
Awesome, Do you remember what tshirt model numbers you were using and wearing? i.e. Next Level 3600, etc. I ask because the shirt you're wearing in the video has the fit I'm looking for.
Hello, my shock is attached to the bottom ball and not the one attached to the blue part of the press. The opening of the shock is facing away from the ball component on the blue arm of the press so I am unable to attach is there. Is there a way to turn the top of the hinge?
Vladimir villar lara Its our DIY bulb made by us, if you are in the US you can visit www.screenprinting.com to visit otherwise you can use a 500 watt halogen light or similar
I like your content but not sure What kind of light pulb and wattage and curing time you are using on this video? I am using ryonet emulsion and a 500 watt UV shop LIGHT but cant figure out the correct curing time. 22 inches frim light to screen. Would you please reommend how and what to use? Thanks.
Hey Robert, couple quick questions. What emulsion do you have there and what mesh count are you trying to expose? The shop light in theory, does the trick, but need to know a little more before i say exactly. if it's easier, you can email me directly at jwells@ryonet.com. LMK!
Thanks so much Ryan for sharing this wonderful video! I always wanted to see how it was done and it is neat. What is the name of the transparent/film paper for making the opaque film negatives and better yet - where do I get it? Can you make negatives with a Laser Printer too using the same film? Thanks again!
great tutorial i just purchased to help with my business. ..i wanted to know us there a way to get the previous image out completely because i can't. print another image because you still can see it
Hey there! To get any leftover ink out of the screen, you would want to use an ink degrader. For plastisol, you would want our Sgreen Ink Degrader. For water base, you would want our Sgreen Aqua Wash. To get the emulsion off the screen, you would need something like our Sgreen Emulsion Stripper! Ink degrader first, to get all of the ink out of the screen, and then you can proceed with the emulsion stripper. If you are still having issues getting your screen reclaimed, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at success@ryonet.com, or 360-450-6845!
This is all good how your helping everyone. However Im having a very hard time getting the image to stain onto the emulsion, I did it just like you did...Mabye 9 mins to stain the image is too short? What happens if I wait longer?
Hey there! I would suggest trying 10 minutes, and if you are still not getting a proper burn, go ahead and take it up to 11! Also, you want to make sure that your exposure bulb is 15 inches above the screen you're trying to burn!
+MrLUNATICSjerks I believe the platen was from our DIY poster printing kit. Check it out here: www.screenprinting.com/diy-gig-poster-screen-printing-kit
Jeremy Johnson Jeremy you actually can use a heat press and it will work very well for curing water base green galaxy ink. It takes about 1 minute and we still recommend using parchment paper
I'm trying to screen print at home but I need to make sure I stay eco-friendly. Just wondering, is there a specific way to dispose of the water and debris after cleaning/reclaiming the screen?
Howdy Daniel! We're glad to hear your conscious of that! +Ernest Frausto (Lil E) Great question! There is always room for improving this area of screen printing since all shirts are different. you will find certain methods that work for some shirts but not others so practice is king. Here is a good video to help give you some ideas :) ruclips.net/video/0uWGDMLhc1M/видео.html
hey I wanted to ask whats the max screen size I can use with the diy screen printing press kit because I have a 20x24 screen. Please respond with info, looking into buying one soon.
can you tell me what is the name of the chemical materials you mixed together for screen preparation ? and what is the kind of screen itself and where can I find it ?
+Dalton Beatz We use a special UV Bulb, you can use a photo bulb if you do not have access to a UV bulb, however if you visit our supplier Luminol in they should have then available www.creadhesif.com
+Thrabid Great question, if the screen is properly exposed the emulsion should last for many uses. So yes, you could use the same screen to print 100 shirts and then clean the screen and store it until you wanted to print 100 more! Or, you could reclaim your screen and put a different design on it! Thanks for watching!
I bought your kit on Amazon. The exposure bulb was broken. Can I use any light bulb I get at the store and use the same procedure by exposing for 9 minutes
+Justin Overholtzer Sorry to hear that, Justin. Halogen bulbs and CFL fluorescents work great. Or, please feel free to contact our support team and we can get that bulb replaced for you! 800-314-6390
Okay i used a florescent bulb... i follow steps exactly like in the video. After i develop emulsion the image begins to appear then as I rinse it exactly like in the video and all the emulsion washes off the screen.
I use a heat gun to cure ink (printed with 230 mesh). Steam still comes out after a minute. Should I keep going until all the steam stops? Should I use a higher heat setting? (1000 degrees is the highest the gun can go) Thanks for any advice.
+Marvin Cake Thanks for asking Marvin! Steam is definitely normal and should not be a concern. Smoke is a concern and if it starts to smell like its burning you want to move the heat away. If you're curing water based ink, the main goal is for the ink to get up to about 320 degrees for 30-90 seconds, depending on how thick the print is. The key is to let all of the water evaporate out. Are you using a temp gun to make sure the ink is getting to the proper temp?
19:00 i dont get it i have seen others just putting ink and using squeegee and thats it. they dont even put ink on the other side. is there any difference? im confused 35:00 here is the other method i have seen most do, but they dont do the other steps where you did 19:00 can you explain the difference? tnx
Hey there! At 19:00, Ryan is coating the screen with emulsion, which prepares it for exposing your image. At 35:00, he is spreading ink into his screen for printing! For the emulsion process, you want to coat the entire thing using a scoop coater, like Ryan showed. Putting ink a screen is usually just done with a clean up card, or a spatula. Please let us know if you have any other questions!
+Jeffrey Montiel Yes you can, we actually put ours in front of fans in our dark room. I would use the blow dryer on low or no heat. Thanks for watching!
Is this a cheaper method to heat pressing your designs? It seem like way more work just to make one shirt when compared to heat transferring plastisol inks.
If you are only making one shirt, you are absolutely correct. The time and effort it will be more expensive in screen printing, but if you are doing any more than 24 shirts, its going to be way better for your time/money in most cases :)
If you're wanting to print with white ink or even any other color than black, the original art will still have to be bold and black, yes? Thanks for this video, you hit so much that I was not able to find in other videos. Really enjoyed watching this and learning!
+Skylar Mason If you are talking about the film that you use to expose the screen, the answer is yes. It should always be printed in opaque black to block out UV and expose properly. Thanks for watching! :)
Hello Ryan I need help in ordering the right size of the image on the screen? How will I measure it I learn a lot from your videos I have a meteor white waiting I just need help on how to get the right size on the image that will be going on the screen...I did it before but It came out wrong I use a ruler though it was to small ...could you please help
Michael Campos I best way I did it was to print out the image on a white piece of paper and do a physical mockup on the shirt, I found this was an easy way to gauge how big to make it.
+vyana marie If you're using low cure additive, you can air dry. Here at Ryonet, we run our posters under a flash dryer or conveyor dryer. If you're using a diy kit you might consider a hair dryer or heat gun to cure your prints.
+Lansky Reyes Your best bet would be an Epson printer with Blackmax ink, we sell this in a package on our website: www.screenprinting.com/epson-1430-blackmax-ultimate-film-output-system If you're looking for a more inexpensive option, you can print your films with an ink jet printer and black ink. In this case, you may want to print two copies of each film and stack them for opacity.
How do you make the film with the design you want ? Whats a low budget DIY way to make films and the designs on them ? And is this DIY kit designed to print white plastisol ink ?
Hi Rick! Screenprinters often use Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw to create vector images to print on film. Extremely low budget way to do it is to draw on film with an opaque black marker! All our kits are capable of printing plastisol inks. Reach out anytime by phone or on our site chat at screenprinting.com
Does this hinge kit offer off contact room? I plan on using plastisol ink on dark garments and don't want the ink to stick Also, what mesh size should I use for plastisol inks white and black? I was thinking of using the Comet White Water Based Ink, but I don't have a flashing unit and it would be hard to print on dark garments. Please help.
+OfficialDRuiz 156 mesh is the most popular option for most printers. For off contact on the hinge kit, we recommend taping a couple washers to the front of your screen, this gives about 1/8" off contact. Ryan covers that and more in this video about printing with the hinge kit, check it out: ruclips.net/video/KJka1xRVNvo/видео.html
What type of bulb comes eith the kit? I ha e the same kit but my bulb says 50 watts? This cant be right. But maybe it is only 50W because i cant get any of my emulsion to stay in the screen after burning. It all just falls out
Is the mount supposed to shift up and down after tightening? I have tightened the bolts as far as they can go but when i put down pressure to lower the screen, the mount shifts and the angle changes and wont stay straight.
If you mean the bolts on the press, these should hold sturdy when placed down. Were they overtightened by chance? Please send a video of the issue you're referencing to success@ryonet.com and we will look at everything with you! If something needs to be replaced we will be happy to help you with that :)

thanks brah! I'm trying to figure out how to print my designs on t-shirts and this is very helpful.👍🏽
very very great detailed tutorial... two thumbs up! ;) Thank you very much. God bless you more.
Thanks for your video. Plastisol Ink or water-based ink, Which is better for a beginner?
It really depends what you're preference is! Waterbase is easier for clean up and is a smoother creamier ink to work with but some people prefer plastisol since it's so easy to work with. Waterbase can be a little finicky since it dries out quicker than plastisol but it's lovely to print with! Call us anytime to talk it out :)

Hi @Adanna Kanezi. The film in this video was made with an ink jet printer.
do you have a video on multi-color halftone printing?

how would you cure a silicone rubber product? I'm afraid it will melt the rubber if using to much heat. Awesome video and product btw!
Great question! Thanks for watching! Silicon is made to literally prevent things from sticking to it. So if you are trying to print on it you will need to use specific inks or a specific process that we don't carry. What item are you printing on?
phone cases
Try this ink out: www.unionprocess.com/inks.html
nice video, but what light were you using to expose ??
What parts of this process do I need to be in a uv light safe space? Just putting the emulsion on the screen or while drying too?
Anything to do with emulsion before it's exposed needs to be done in a light-safe space. Once it's exposed, you're good to turn on the lights again!

thank for detail tutorial... GBU
+Rahmat Ilam Thanks for watching! :)
So good!! Thank you.
Does it have to be distilled water for the emulsion or can it be drinking water
Distilled water is recommended, but any soft water will do okay, just so long as it isn't hard water.
awesome video! i just ordered a kit to kick off my own screen printing business. quick question not regarding the kit itself, but you know where i can purchase an inexpensive yet sturdy press cart like yours? Hey there! The three brands of shirts we use are Next Level, Gildan, and Bella+Canvas!
Awesome, Do you remember what tshirt model numbers you were using and wearing? i.e. Next Level 3600, etc. I ask because the shirt you're wearing in the video has the fit I'm looking for.
Are these types of prints made only for tshirts and smaller posters, or are you able to make bigger styles, like say movie size posters with these?
Hello, my shock is attached to the bottom ball and not the one attached to the blue part of the press. The opening of the shock is facing away from the ball component on the blue arm of the press so I am unable to attach is there. Is there a way to turn the top of the hinge?

+Justin Overholtzer Sorry to hear that, Justin. Halogen bulbs and CFL fluorescents work great. Or, please feel free to contact our support team and we can get that bulb replaced for you! 800-314-6390
Okay i used a florescent bulb... i follow steps exactly like in the video. After i develop emulsion the image begins to appear then as I rinse it exactly like in the video and all the emulsion washes off the screen.
what is the wattage of that light you were using with desk lamp?
19:00 i dont get it
i have seen others just putting ink and using squeegee and thats it. they dont even put ink on the other side.
is there any difference? im confused
35:00 here is the other method i have seen most do, but they dont do the other steps where you did 19:00
can you explain the difference?
tnx
Can i cure using a heat press?
After you wash out the design can you blow dry it to speed up the process?
+Jeffrey Montiel Yes you can, we actually put ours in front of fans in our dark room. I would use the blow dryer on low or no heat. Thanks for watching!
Can you add more than one color on this exact machine ? +Ryonet
Vato Alfred The machine is not expandable but you can put another screen on it to make more than one color on a shirt, it is just harder to register.
Ryonet Oh okay, so you would just take off the initial screen, and then swap it for another one once your ready to add another color, correct?
Where can you buy a flat head water pressure hose (preferably for the home sink)?
Is this a cheaper method to heat pressing your designs? It seem like way more work just to make one shirt when compared to heat transferring plastisol inks.
If you are only making one shirt, you are absolutely correct. The time and effort it will be more expensive in screen printing, but if you are doing any more than 24 shirts, its going to be way better for your time/money in most cases :)
Hey ryonet I recently bought a diy gig poster kit and im having sooooo many issues with adjusting the off contact. It never seems right. Any advice?
Tape a washer or a couple quarters to the top of the screen. That should help. =)
Ryonet looks like the 20 x 24 frame i have doesnt touch the pallet where my washer is tape. its higher than the pallet
you are awesome. Helping business grow, will help you grow :).
matrix4583 2 our thoughts exactly. =)
thanks for this
+Baamrani Thanks for watching!
+Ryonet Can you guide me where I can purchase these films and what they are called? Thanks!
+Skylar Mason No problem, check them out here: www.screenprinting.com/category/inkjet-waterproof-films
I’m really interested in this too bad my English not so good can’t understand all , anyway great video,
What is the process when it comes to 'curing' paper prints?
+vyana marie If you're using low cure additive, you can air dry. Here at Ryonet, we run our posters under a flash dryer or conveyor dryer. If you're using a diy kit you might consider a hair dryer or heat gun to cure your prints.
Ryonet, let's say I am printing 20 shirts, should I heat the ink after print 1? or could I print all 20 shirts, then heat them all?
IT really depends on your setup. If you have a one or multi-station press, you can cure after each shirt is printed
How can I get one of these kit
Hello, can I use a heat press for the curing?
+flex Mckenzie check this out :)

So you dont need the blue thingy for shirts
So I plan on buying intuos draw tablet to help me design better but how do I print how the design? What are the tools supplies that I need please help
+Ryonet so an inexpensive epson inkjet will do the trick??
How do you make the film with the design you want ? Whats a low budget DIY way to make films and the designs on them ? And is this DIY kit designed to print white plastisol ink ?
Hi Rick! Screenprinters often use Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw to create vector images to print on film. Extremely low budget way to do it is to draw on film with an opaque black marker! All our kits are capable of printing plastisol inks. Reach out anytime by phone or on our site chat at screenprinting.com
@@Ryonet Thanks
I have this film … but having tough time get print on my ink tank printer 😢😢
Sååå bra :-) Tack!
Do you ship to the UK

Where can I order this matrials and equipments?
does the UV light damage the screen if some parts of it are not coated??
I am not sure what you mean, however, light is a problem for the emulsion not the mesh. So if you have mesh exposed then it is not a problem.
+Ryonet thank youuu that answers my question!
Does this hinge kit offer off contact room? I plan on using plastisol ink on dark garments and don't want the ink to stick
Also, what mesh size should I use for plastisol inks white and black?
I was thinking of using the Comet White Water Based Ink, but I don't have a flashing unit and it would be hard to print on dark garments. Please help.
+OfficialDRuiz 156 mesh is the most popular option for most printers. For off contact on the hinge kit, we recommend taping a couple washers to the front of your screen, this gives about 1/8" off contact. Ryan covers that and more in this video about printing with the hinge kit, check it out: ruclips.net/video/KJka1xRVNvo/видео.html
i dont have a ink jet printer can i just use a stencil?
+stuss great question! You definitely can if you have one! :)
What type of bulb comes eith the kit? I ha e the same kit but my bulb says 50 watts? This cant be right. But maybe it is only 50W because i cant get any of my emulsion to stay in the screen after burning. It all just falls out
Muito bom e bem explicado,parabéns!
+Larry J dj thank you for watching! :)
