  • boesemani will often grow to lengths that exceed 10 cm (3.9 in) if given the right food and water conditions. Like most rainbowfish they are capable of adjusting their color intensity. Their color intensity may be a sign of mood or health. Generally more intense is seen during night time.

    Just seen your tank. I've never had anything bigger than a 75. And, I always have to have as many different rainbows as I can! I haven't been able to keep one type by themselves yet, but maybe soon. I remember seeing my first planted Rainbow tank and have been hooked since! I love the giant val the way it streams across the tanks. Im growing out some Cato River, another Tri and some Kali Tawa. Never gets old!

    Beautiful tank! How old are these rainbows? I've had mine for 7 months now and they are no where near this size... curious to know when they will start looking like this.

      Hello.. These rainbows are about 4 to 5 years old... I have some super red boesemani which are 6 inches now...boesemani are probably the slowest growing of all the species of rainbows....... All of the rainbows are slow-growing but boesemani are the slowest ... . If you can buy mixed bags of seafood which contains prawns squid muscles.... Blend it all up together with some garlic cloves. . Flatten it all out then freeze it...... Feed it to your fish they will grow quicker..

      @@eyeinthesky74 Good to know, I have 5 x Boesmani, 5 x Lake Kutubu & 5 x Red rainbows. I feed mine once a day and rotate their food on a daily basis between a high quality flake, pellet and frozen. I had always thought it takes them about 1 year to get to their full adult size but I'm guessing that's not the case?

    • @eyeinthesky74

      @@adamwickenden5981 they have been known to live 15 years or more that's why they grow slow..gary lange had rainbows live 18 years....they might be adult at about 2/years but will continue to grow..at 1 year they still small,about 1/2inches..bought from shop they already over a year old.....I've bred them for years and all different species...... I've got 19 goyder river from gerd bartz irg. Growing out at mo and got some ayamaru from Johannes graff on the way..they like boesemani but vibrant red at the back.. If you do the seafood mix blend it up and put it on some greese greaseproof paper and flatten it out then freeze then you can snap pieces off and feed..you can also put pellets in with it aswell

    So the Bosemoni's are the most colourful among the Rainbow's?. Are they suitably for hard water or RO mixed?

    • @eyeinthesky74
      @eyeinthesky74  5 месяцев назад

      There are lots of different species of rainbow fish....they are all different colours and lots of them are just as colourful.. getting them from a good supplier is best....most shop stuff is of low quality...yes they ok for hard water and mixed ro..

      Rainbows like harder water, but not as hard as African cichlid water.

    Nice fish. They color up even more if you add some females and use dark colored substrate. They see the white sand and choose to be less colorful.

    • @eyeinthesky74
      @eyeinthesky74  4 месяца назад

      There are 6 females in the tank... yes you are right mate..I have experimented with dark substrate and find it just makes the tank look very dark..the tank in question has had black sub a few times over the years... I have other tanks with black substrate and other species of rainbow fish but not this big one.. Black substrate looks very unnatural against the scape/ brown larva rocks,abit of a bad clash black and brown.. Like I said you are right but it just didn't look good...gray or white rock black substrate 👍

    • @onlywei
      @onlywei 4 месяца назад +1

      @@eyeinthesky74 I agree. The hardscape needs to be bright in order for a black substrate to work. When I say “dark” substrate though, it doesn’t need to be “black”. Brown like aquasoil or red like Seachem Flourite also works.
