    I've learned that the reason why some people struggle with Vallisneria, is down to water chemistry. Specifically, a lack of calcium in the water. One thing I've found that works is to put a small seashell somewhere in the tank where it can't be seen. Did it once and the vallis took over the tank.

    • @MDFishTanks
      @MDFishTanks  10 месяцев назад +19

      makes sense. I'll give this a try. Im guessing shell size will be dependent on water volume, but what size shell would you say for 100 litres (26 gal)

    • @LynnWorton
      @LynnWorton 10 месяцев назад +8

      @MDFishTanks you could use one or two of the escargot shells you have for your African shell dweller cichlids or use one larger sea shell that is a lot thicker and it should last a lot longer (over a year) depending on your water hardness

    • @sandorkovacs6974

    I've been using peace lilllie's and other plants like sweet potato, carrot tops, etc, for years. They make the best filtration ever. I have never used any electric filters in my aquariums for years. Just a small power head or air stone near the heater to make sure the warm water circulates around the aquarium.
    Obviously I wouldn't keep large cichlids in this type of aquarium, but tetra's and dwarf cichlids absolutely love this type of set up.
    Thanks for the fantastic content MD.

    Until recently I had no idea how concentrated API products are. And I still see people comparing 431 ml bottle from API with 500 ml bottle from what I used to use before, and say that the API is more expensive, because the bottle cost about a couple £ more. But the dose for my tank is 45 ml if I use the API product or about 600 ml of the other one, it lasts 10 times more.
    I don't want to name the other product here, but do check the dosage when deciding what is cheaper.
