My plumber wanted $400 to do this. I bought my Insinkerator 100 from Home Depot for about $150 and thanks to your video, did it myself and it works perfectly. I just had to make a quick trip to the store to buy the electric cable clamp/connector, that was the hardest part. Thanks for the video.

After washing dishes, I pulled the plug to let the water drain out and heard Niagara Falls underneath my sink. When I open the cabinet doors, I notice water only coming from the bottom of my disposal. I was not worried about replacing the system, it was the electrical that through me for a loop. After watching this video, I feel like I could open my own business install garbage disposals. Thanks for taking the time out to share your knowledge.

Very clear instructions. I really appreciate your lesson on wire connections. Installation took 40 minutes with the most challenging part being the wrestling with the weight of the Evolution Excel. Placing my feet beneath the unit gave me the leverage I needed to align the disposal with the mounting ring. Thanks!

Excellent video. You may want to note the following. The drain flange that comes with garbage disposals such as the insinkerator is designed for connecting to stainless steel sinks (which most people have). If you have a ceramic sink, however, the sink is much thicker and you will need to buy a longer / deeper drain flange (a $50+ part) at a plumbing supply store; your average hardware store or "big box" store does not stock these deeper drain flanges. This happened to me.

This video was fantastic and helped me plenty. I didn't even bother with the InSinkErator video. I followed step by step and had success. My biggest struggle was the snap ring (solved with a screwdriver after long time) and the electrical connection. I bought and connected the plug Lowes recommended, but I didn't need it since the wiring went directly to the panel, and so I had to redo that. Last thing to note, if you had a p trap connected to your old unit, and you guy a new one with the purchase as recommended by Lowes, for some reason you need to reuse one of the nut and slip washers because they don't give you one for the drain pipe. Other than fact I was too stupid to put the flange the right way (so the InSinkErator logo is the left to right not top to bottom) it was a total success thanks to this video.

Thanks for the tip on the narrow prong on the plug being hot. I really couldn't see a difference in the outside sheathing so I assumed it didn't matter. I'll take it apart before installing tomorrow and see if I guessed right. Thanks again!

jeff Hardin LMAO... The only frustration I experienced was all the videos I found prior to this one. Most of which had 2+ minutes of pointless banter before getting to the actual installation process. This one was straight to the point and clear. The only thing I was really needing was at what point is the baffle installed.

Great video! (Only thing that caught me was the longer screws that come installed with the mounting ring - shorter screws included with the disposal fixed the problem.) Appreciate the time you took in walking through the process - I'll echo that you saved me some money on hiring an installer.

Instructions on the Evolution Excel are dumb proof easy. But for some reason it has a 1.25" drain when the sink pipes are 1.5". What the hell were they thinking!!
So the sudden jolt of movement is normal? I just installed mine. Also, would it work if you got the power cable lines backwards?
Do you have a part number or a link to the twist connectors?
OK, my old disposal was a GE that got replaced by a Kenmore 3/4 hp, now replaced by a Badger Insinkerator 3/4 hp 15SS. My question for you is my plumbing came with an undersink vacuum breaker and a streight pipe to a "T" to the p-trap under the right sink. I have angled the streight pipe about 3 degree slope to the T.
My question is: is the p-trap for the disposal required in some area? (Colorado Springs, maybe not). Unfortunately, the streight pipe was about 1/2" short so it took about 4 trips to Ace hardware before I was finished and was dead tired. I liked the way some of the other guys staged required and/or recommended tools.

Hi, a p-trap is required for all drain pipes. This will prevent sewer gas from getting into the house.

If I don't have a dishwasher is that ok to leave the upper pipe open (without any pipe connected) ?
Hi, a new disposal comes with a plug inside, so it doesn't leak. You would knock the plug out if you have a dishwasher connected to it.

Make sure you punch out the plug in the side of the garbage disposal for dishwasher connection.
You need to run the dishwasher drain hose up as high as you can under the countertop to prevent waste contaminating the dishwasher. Your dispose instructions should tell you that.
Did you notice a loud click when you first turned on the disposal? I hear it every time i turn it on. Is this normal as part of the operation of the blades or does that mean the blades are too loose?
+Purav Sanghani Hi, the lugs or impellers spin when the garbage disposal starts, so it could be catching against something caught along the inside edge of the disposer, or you could just be hearing them start to spin.
With the electric shut off, you can look inside with a strong flashlight.

my leak is actually coming from the small panel that is held with the one screw on the bottom of the disposal.
any suggestions on how to repair?
