The plumber joke 😂😂😂😂😂
Lol. Glad you liked it. 😃
Thank you so much for this video!! $15 fix to extend the life of my garbage disposal for years!!
Thanks for sharing this video, it’s very helpful.
Thank you so much for sharing. It is very helpful.
Thanks for the quick video this is what my disposal is doing right now.
Thank you for the information 😊😊
Thanks! Very helpful! Learned from this video and fixed my garbage disposal today! 🙂
That’s great. Glad it helped 😃
Great video man, thank you very much!
Excellent..! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much!
Good info. You were right about the crack. I followed step by step instructions. One detail left out, in my experience, after the disposal is reinstalled don’t be alarmed if it still leaks. You may need to purge the remaining water that is sitting in the bottom of the disposal.
What do you mean by “purge” the remaining water?
Leave a bowl under the disposal and run the disposal a few times because there may be wqter sitting in the bottom of the disposal.
What if the disposal is brand new and has a leak already?
@QuBurlz right? I just bought a brand new one that's leaking after a week!
Thank You!
Thank you! Had a leak, watched your vid, same exact issue. Would have never attempted to fix it had I not saw your vid. Thanks again, friend.
Did it work?
I am sure it works but how long will it last? Sometimes better off just getting a new unit
Thank you for the post. Helped me fix my mother’s disposal. Super easy to complete. 🙌🏼🤝🏽
Glad it helped. 😃
Thank you!
Now have a project. Man being a first time home owner is a learning curve. Thank you for this video!!
You’re welcome. 😃
Home ownership can be a pain in the butt 😢
great video thanks!
Holy smokes, it worked!! I am NOT the best handyman - If I can do this, anyone can! My disposal looked rough - I gave it a 10% chance this would actually work. Once the epoxy fully dried and installed everything back together, there were a couple drips. After day 3, nothing dripped again! And, it was pretty cool to dig into the workings of a garbage disposal, this was new territory for me. Thank you for this video, I really appreciate it!!
Yessir, Quick and to the point. Thank you brother.
You’re welcome and thanks for watching 😃
Followed step by step and it works!! Thank you! Saved me $$$
That’s great glad it helped 😀
Thank you so much for this video. I did all this step, and it works for me. The 5mm piece works wonderful. You save me some money.
I’m glad it worked for you 😃
Thank you for making this video. I was able to repair the disposal without any issues. I simplified the steps by just removing the section that needed fixing (where water drops came from ). Thanks for suggesting the 5mm wrench worked like a charm.
That’s great. I’m glad it helped 😃
That's a great suggestion.
Great video, stellar guide ,thanks for taking the time to do this ill be definitely subscribing to your channel.
Thanks. 😃
The right video for the problem. Thanks
Thanks 😃
This was exactly what was wrong with mine. Took longer for the JB weld to dry than anything else. Minus that dry time, this was about a 45 min job. Thank you!!!
👍🏻
Great video! I’m going to fix mine tonight!
That’s great
Great DIY. Thank you
You’re welcome and thanks for watching 😃
Great video, thank you~
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching
Thank you so much for this video!

This is exactly where my Badger disposal is leaking. Thank you SO much for getting straight to the point and showing us how to fix it, including the warning about putting too much spot on the sides! God bless you!
I just subscribed and loved the joke, hahaha!

Glad it helped. 😀
Thank you. Solid dad joke too.
Great video,I always just buy a new one,I think I’m gonna buy a new one but fix the old one and keep it for a backup
Heck yeah!
Heck yeah that was helpful. I thought it was just a gasket that needed to be replaced. It's actually corroding from all the food and bacteria. JB weld is amazing stuff. Great video! I think I will just buy anew one though
lol thanks
Worked like a charm thanks bud unlike most u definitely earned my subscription nd likes
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. 😃
I used this method and it worked! Thanks! You saved me over $110 bucks
Thank you very much

Thank you very much this video was very helpful
You save me like 200 bucks
That’s great 😃
Great video. but which screwdriver you use, said 5mm but which kind? thanks
Yeah. Did all of this step by step and I’m getting more leaks now
Hmm sometimes things just don’t work out. Sorry it didn’t work for you
I just discovered a leak and found this video. I'm going to give this a try and I'll come back and tell you how it went!!
Please let us know 😃
I would only recommend this fix if you are tight on money. It is a temporary fix for the same reason autobody mechanics dont like to repair rusty side panels on a car/truck. Once the rust has formed, it will continue rusting, and whatever you coated the metal with will flake off.
I always recommend paying more for the higher grade models with stainless steel internals and a longer manufacturer warranty.
And btw, plumbers from get tired from having to change garbage disposal’s. Those jobs are easy! We get tired from digging trenches, crawling and working in tight crawlspaces, and moving heavy bulky plumbing appliances and fixtures! We don’t take it personal though haha
Actually I put CLR on the rust of my 71 Blazer rocker panels and has not deteriorated since. That over 5 years ago.
Mine is connected to the dishwasher next to it and we've had it since we built the house on 2015 so should we just replace it or try this and if we wanted to do away with it instead and just have a plain pipe underneath hiw would we do that. Thanks
Thank you, I'll check mine for cracks.
👍🏻
Help please! My disposal is leaking from all the bottom screws. It can be fixed? Thanks!
Followed the steps in order now I am waiting for the result.
Thank you
You’re welcome
You’re welcome 😃
Ok, so I took out the disposal no problem. Separated the two parts by removing 4 bolts. I cleaned and brushes as instructed. I was able to see about 3 little holes. I bought the seal as instructed and applied it. Let it sit for like 8 hours was sealed and dry. I filled the sink up twice, issued the drain a few times.. I saved over $100 by doing this..doesn’t take too much time at all and is worth it. Thanks for the vid man!
You’re welcome. This is the reason I do it. Thanks for the comment
😃
Question... what happens if the garbage disposal is leaking and the water isn't draining properly. Does this mean something is stopping the flow of water through the garage disposal??
As a 40+ year plumber, these garborators should NEVER be used without an intercepter in place, garbage belongs in the garbage, not in your drainage systems, these will plug your drains and cost you dearly, even restaurants require interseptors by code! just think about it for a minute! NO FOOD WASTE DOWN ANY DRAINS, EVEN THE TOILET, SAME RESULT!
Mine started leaking. I agree that we shouldn’t be putting food down the sink for all the reasons you stated. I want to get rid of mine completely. Is this a do it yourself job at all?
we removed ours and no longer have a disposal. It leaked bad causing a huge mold issue.
Thank you, good how to fix. Others 15 minutes and no fix.
Not a bad idea. How long do you think will the apoxy last? I'm pretty sure it's not as hard as the original metal. I have a similar problem that just developed on my disposal that is nearly 30 years old. I think in my case it's just best to replace the unit.
After 30 years? I wouldn’t recommend doing this LOL
This tutorial video was draining me, no pun intended
😂
Old school boys😊
Thank you for saving my $150
😀. You’re welcome. I’m glad it helped you.
Make sure to unplug, as he's already taken it all apart lol 0:19
Great video though!
Lol everyone saying just buy a new one have no business watching this
There's nothing quick about this. No one in their right mind would go through all this instead of just getting a replacement.
Lmao I brought a new one but times might be hard for some, they cost over $100
@@Bythebartalk sure, but also bottom side leaks are essentially non-repairable anyways. Only leaks higher up can sometimes be mitigated
@@thawhole9it took my 15 minuetes to do this and it works like a charm, why waste 100$ if its thise easy. i removed 4 bolts and got a flathead and it came off and i put some jbweld and put the bolts back on. this was faster than buying a new one
You have no business commenting.
Would getting a stainless steel unit in any way protect the garbage disposal from the effects of hot water? (especially the O Ring and the motor seal) I think ''hot'' water that is also
''hard water'' in Las Vegas is the reason why I only get about 3 years out of my garbage disposals that use galvanized parts, and I heard stainless steel is better, but how is that
better if in my case where I live it's the O Rings and Motor seals that are the weakest points ?
Yes...Thanks..
I just encountered this problem seconds ago
Mine got jammed so i used the hex to unjam it,it seemed easy but then started leaking water down the electric line or that square plate on the bottom. Do you think I should try what you did or try and buy a new one. The bolt to the electric cord was lose, I was hoping that was the problem but after I tightened it, it still leaking. 😢
You can only do so much. There was only one issue with mines, but if your having multiple issues I would suggest replacing it. 😃
@@don_wynn
The only issue is it's leaking water down the electric line on the bottom which started right after I unjammed it😔
@@doreenswee-ff9ez This is the exact problem that I’m having now. What was your final solution to this problem…please share? 🙏🏼
Same issue I’m going to take mine apart tomorrow
What would happen if i just applied the epoxy to where the leak is on the bottom? Not sure i have the tools to disconnect the unit.
Do you have a screwdriver? If so you’re all set!
Those cheap ones break and start leaking really easily. The upgraded ones are better as they have stainless steel inside.
Everyone should do this as a preventive maintenance if u want to save $$$, the key is prep the part real well and after applying the adhesive is to wait till the adhsive is 100% this will ensure premature peeling off and a solid bond.
One that bad I would replace as they are not very expensive.
TRIED ALL OF THESE VIDEOS... JUST GET A NEW 1. AT LEAST THESE VIDS TAUGHT ME HOW TO INSTALL IT. $169 AT LOWES
short term fix. JB weld will break again, more cracks will form, the unit will continue to corrode/rust. just replace it.
3:20 😂😂 love the joke
Lol. Thanks 😃
😂 I was about to just give a thumbs up because the video was great. And then I had to give a thumbs up because that joke at the end was epic 😂
Lol 😂
Would recommend just buying a new one. The amount of work will be more than installing a new one and you're prone to it breaking again. This is an EXCELLENT video that shows damage to a Garbage Disposal over long term use. Thanks for making it.
Hi. Yes if you think it will be better to purchase a new one I would absolutely recommend that over fixing it. I made this video so if someone who find it too expensive to replace it can do this. 😃
Buy One with an industrial 5 years warranty...
I am considering a by pass .. Elimination Tube
I recommend buying a new one. Thanks for the info as I will install the new one myself...It is pretty old as I will not spend time fixing an old device. They are affordable.
That's for sure. You can pick up a new disposal for $99.00 if you want and it should last many years. This is not worth repairing.
@@logicwurx Agree...
Helpppp
Check the out pipe. Mine was rusted and developed a leak down to the wire area (maybe?!?) I wound up replacing the unit anyway but the leak could’ve been fixed and saved myself $150.
this happens all the time with this brand. I have had about 3-4 leaks n different units.
Hi what brand do you recommend?
@@don_wynn I dont know. stainless
Please can you send me the link for the glue cock that you did used
Home depot or Lowes sell these items. Or any hardware stores sell them.
I think he said he just standard JB Weld
I would never in a million years have expected your garbage disposal to start leaking underneath, and mine isn't ancient by any means. Mine was dripping for who knows how long and eventually started raining, ran down into a metal toolbox I had in the basement and ruined all the tools. As well as soaking all the floorboards. Isn't that nice.
While I appreciate this fix, I feel like you may as well just replace the garbage disposal unit. Eventually another part is going to rust through, and I have had nothing but issues with JB Weld staying in place and not breaking off.
When one looks at the rust, one wonders why they would not simply make the grinding wheel stainless steel?
And the only answer I can think of is planned obsolescence.
Does anyone know of a disposal being sold that has a stainless grinder wheel inside, that won't rust through eventually?
That was horrible what happened to you, I couldn’t imagine. And yes, the best option is to replace the entire unit. When this happened to me, I was in a panic and I didn’t know what to do. The cheapest way I found at the time for a fix was this. I would recommend replacing the entire unit for sure .
@@don_wynn oh hey- I found a garbage disposal unit that actually has stainless steel parts inside instead of galvanized! Instead of being guaranteed for 3 years like the In-Sink-Erator Badger 5, it has a lifetime corrosion guarantee.
It also swaps out perfectly with the old sink latch.
Its called a Smart Choice SC05DISPC1
Same price too! Crazy people are buying disposals that rust out.
Just put it in its working great
Every other video: throw money at the problem, dont open it up, don't even attempt repair, just replace
This video: do you have some water seal epoxy? If not go by some for less than 15$, fix it yourself in under 20 minutes
Thanks 🙏🏻✌🏻
I live in an old apartment complex. I've had several leaks coming down through the my ceiling from the apartment above, over the course of several years, as well as having experienced, gurgling and foaming toilet bowl incidences, and sudden instances of dripping faucets...out of the blue. Suffice to say, I have endured too many leaky situations over the years...to feel settled about. Consequently....from time to time, the unit above me would summon a plumber, and things would be okay for a while, then before I knew it....another leak. Most recently....I was using the kitchen garbage disposal and had the light above the sink on as well. I have never experienced anything wrong with the operation of the sink or disposal, sans brownish water and the tainting of my water faucet with white spots. All has been functional aside from those two factors. All of a sudden....the disposal stopped working and the light went out. After some research, I found that both of the outlets...on the wall of the disposal and light....were out cold, meaning, no juice at all. Even after I had toggled the GFCI buttons, and checked the breakers, which were found to be in the correct position. Nonetheless, for good measure, I toggled the breakers as well. This happened on Wednesday. Thursday, I woke up to find that 'miraculously' not only did the disposal work, but the light above the sink and the two wall outlets....were working perfectly, and I hadn't touched a thing. Today is Friday, and the only repercussion from Wednesday's incident is that the disposal is still dripping. I have a coffee can underneath to catch all. It seems to be dripping at a reasonable rate and not pouring. The day that my outlets, disposal, and lights stopped working....I could hear that the upstairs unit was undertaking some kind of plumbing fixes. Being home, and the units being old and poorly constructed...I can 'hear' lots...For instance...it often 'sounds' like the water from upstairs coming down my wall between the bathroom and the kitchen. It's very loud, and was even shocked the first time I noticed it, and took a video, just to capture the loudness of the water I could hear from the wall. With all that I have relayed........Do you think that it's possible....that the plumbing issues coming from the unit above all these years, as well as their 'attempts' to fix the plumbing....probably with non-professionals....are affecting my unit. Please respond if you can. So....my story...is not a fun story. I seem to get the brunt of leak after leak...with a not-very-responsive landlord ( the unit above) that lives out of state and has, in the past, tried to make light of the leaking issues. My feeling is that he is renting as section 8, has owned the unit for many years, and obviously....does not care too much about the leaks I have experienced....as well the huge inconvenience...time and time again. What are your thoughts...about the continuous plumbing problems, and....my recent incident with the garbage disposal.....et al?????? Thanks so much...if you have a clue!!!!
Wow, that's torturously difficult to read. Please try paragraph breaks--and maybe gather your thoughts by outlining a lengthy story like this into an email draft or something, where you can copy/paste to a YT comment. It would help avoid the rambling--which will be more likely to get you help.
Your power could have been cut by workers above you--if you're downstream from a breaker in the other apartment--and then it worked later after they turned it back on. That's not an ideal wiring scenario...but many installations are far from ideal.
I'm unclear on whether your disposal is still leaking. The technique in this video may help you fix it, but we can't make that assessment for you.
Me personally, after watching this and another vid I'm heading to Lowe's for a new one. If I spend the time removing and re-mounting a disposal, I want to know I'm not doing it again for several years.
The dripping sounds you hear could be problems, but they also could be normal plumbing. Your neighbor's sink or toilet is likely to come down the top of the same drain pipe that's in your wall. If that wall doesn't have insulation in it, this can be surprisingly loud.
If your relationship with the landlord is truly a case of chronic neglect, it may be something worth discussing with an attorney.
If not, it may be better to simply move and be done with the headache of an apathetic manager.
Good luck.
@@zedmelonthank you for reading it for us and giving the advice.
Paragraph breaks save lives 😭
@@Kevintendo Glad to help. :,)
I’m not reading all of this

This is the second garbage disposal that leaks on me why???? I don’t even use it that much???
same issue here, but mine gave out today and as I'm learning here on RUclips what happenned, one thing stands out, ''Hot Water'' not sure how big an impact this has
but if that doesn't make sense, what if your water is very ''hard'' ie corrossive like our water in the Las Vegas area, either way, the thing I'm wondering is,
why would a stainless steel model be more resistant to these type of leaks? I don't see why they would, but that's what some say is the problem, your average garbage disposal
has galvanized steel, but to me that does not explain all of it, I've had some garbage disposals with light use last less than 3 years.
New title.....WHEN TO BUY A NEW DISPOSAL
.......".his work had been too draining.."...... shish.
Planned obsolescence.
Nope. This is just asking for trouble. You broke a factory seal (and didn't install a new seal) and still have a rusted bottom plate. You might temporarily fix the unit but more problems will come up sooner and be worse the next time around. Unfortunately, the manufacturers behind this type of equipment intentionally do not engineer them to last. A better design would be to encase the metal plate in a coating that would provide a superior sealant for the housing that would allow the unit to function for decades with minimal to no rust. These units are engineered from day one to fail. Frankly, I'm a bit shocked that building codes allow these to be installed in homes. Water and electricity don't mix! Granted, the windings around the motor are shielded, but it wouldn't take much to cause a short and start an electrical fire.
That model doesn't last long, the cheapest, better replace that with an stainless inside parts. That fix won't last because the steel material is already rusted, you are wasting your time. Don't follow his advice, very bad advice. I own an apartment and I replace all that model with Costco American Std on sale 60 bucks, lower price than that model. Last minimun of 7 years. That model last only 1 year and weak motor.
Mine is 7+ years old and just started leaking. From your experience, maybe it is just abuse from renters on why they only last a short period of time. No need to say this method won't work.
My house has this same exact garbage disposal when I moved in (2014) and up until this week in May 2024. It started leaking from the bottom exactly like this video. So wrong, they don’t last 1 year
I love asian people.
