It's nice to see a guy hula hooping, I was beginning to think it was a girl-only thing.
This is exactly what a beginner needs to watch, thank you...bigger hoops spins slower is such an eye opener to me ..I thought smaller hoops were easier to start with, I have got the biggest u could find in decathlon, ready to start now 😃
This is such an amazing video, the keeping it parallel part totally fixed things for me! I couldn't get past 2 rounds earlier and now I can go up to 12!!
Awesome! Yeah, I did a video on my channel using a 6 foot hoop, but that hoop I made. I have yet to find a dealer that consistently sells 6 foot hoops.
Thanks for this. For the first time because you mention the importance of the size of the hoop (not often mentioned) it has finally worked. Still hard work but I can do it.
Thank you for this! I got a weighted hula hoop and was soooo disappointed I wasn't able to keep it up. Today was the final chance to test it or get rid of it, and your video was one I selected before getting started and frustrated. My hoop doesn't quite reach my belly button, so I'm sure that's part of the problem. None of the other beginner videos I had watched mentioned that...and it's obviously kinda a big deal. So thank you!
This episode changed my entire hula hoop journey.. i was struggling with a smaller one 28" my daughter was using and did 11 consecutive loops with a slightly bigger one 36" to be precise.. thank u so much God bless u 😊👍
I agree. She was a great sport to make this video with me. To any person who knows they have never been sucessful at hula hooping to display it to the world. I'm glad she did because her doing this video, you're right, does show that anyone can hula hoop. I've done events before where people have hula hooped in wheel chairs on their hands.
I remember how I hated hula loop in gym classes at school but now I want to loose weight, especially around the waist and belly part of my body so I thought this could be a good additional exercise to target the area. I didn't had high hopes as it has always landed at my feet in seconds. I ordered a hoop and of course I had the same result, even after half an hour of trying. Frustrated I searched on the topic on RUclips and found your video. Your instructions are insanely on spot, first I changed to bigger loop and followed your advice. In seconds I was able to do it!!! I can't believe it! XD Finally as an adult I learnt how to use the hoop! Thank you so much :)

Omgeeee you are a great teacher!!! I came to YT to learn. I’m 49 and never even learned as I child. I resorted to using it as a jump rope lol. I went from 0 to 151 just now. I wish I would have recorded for my daughter. I’m siked! This weight around my waist is about to vanish. Thank you for this video.
I was great at hooping as a child and couldnt understand how I could no longer do it. I realise now that it is because I was trying to use the same size hoop that I used as a child. Great explanation.
Hoop size really does matter for any skill level. Once you get more advanced, you definitely need a much smaller hoop to do some of the crazy tricks out there.
That's a very beautiful setting....and helpful information....I had a mid sized hoop and that's got to be my problem. Thank you! I'm off to Walmart....oh wait, no I'm not. The worlds shut down.
The hoops they sell at Walmart are for kids. I’d suggest buying from a hoop maker on Etsy such as from TheSpinsterz, Raye of Rainn or HoopHeads. Plus it’s better to support small business owners who are really struggling instead of buying from big companies. Happy Spinning!!!
She was amazing and very good sport about showing what she can't do for people to watch ! I can't slack line for the life of me you won't see me on YT not slack lining properly for sure. She is very kind to have done that !!

Hey Smiles this is amazing. I didn't learn to hoop till I was 48. For the last 8 years, I make beginner hoops and teach all ages all sizes of people to hoop. Also I teach about the history of hooping. Because..... I live where Hoops had a rebirth in 1957 with the combined efforts between Whamo an Phillips 66 patrolium company. Using the new evention of Maralex plastic. Also responsible for the Frisbee. My grandson's and I donated 2 hoops we made to the 66 museum as they were using Walmart hoops is their inneractive display. I tripped out!. So we fixed it. Also In 2017 I hosted world hoop day here. I was born for my hoop journey 🙆
This was great! I am almost 53 years old and have never "hooped" in my life! But lately I have really been thinking a lot about wanting to try. So thank you for the advice, and for this channel, so I have a place to come to for help!
BTW since I'm a bit "larger," I just bought 3/4" 160 psi pipe, pipe cutters, electrical tape and 3/4x3/4" connectors to make my large first hoop. It's being delivered, and I'm excited! It was just under $100 but that means I'll have the makings for lots of hoops :)
Thank you for showing this with a total beginner. At least this gave me the feeling that she can relate to me. However, I am totally discouraged by the hoop size. Even if I find our construct a 5'' hoop in my apartment, I cannot use it. I would smash the TV. My apartment is very small. Now I need to figure out whether trying that hoop I bought or whether to give up. My hoop is 2 fingers width away from my belly button. That is the most I can use at home. It has stainless steel inside - so it does not move too fast.
Thanks for sharing about that. Here's the thing about using a bigger hoop. Typically when I have taught people and start them out with a larger hoop. I have found that the larger hoop can help teach their body how to move the correct way to keep the hoop up. Usually soon after, even in the same day of using the bigger hoop, they are sometimes likely to be able to use a smaller hoop size. In your situation is it possible to try a bigger hoop just for a day or 2. And then once you get the movements, maybe you can then try the smaller hoop you have.
I found this really helpful, thanks. I bought an adult hoop but it doesn’t even come to my waist. I bought one which comes apart, so seeing you do this here, I know if I buy another one I will be able to extend the size.
After trying on and off since last summer, I was about to throw the hoop away but decided one more go this morning, and first try I was able to keep it going, not very long but enough to know I can do it. Am thrilled to bits.
Good video! One thing I saw in another video that seems like a good starting point is your waist size * 1.2. I have a 35” waist and made myself a 42” hoop and has worked pretty well to learn waist hooping. And adding more weight via thicker tubing or more tape can potentially help as well (though too much can bruise you). Also, personally I found it a lot easier to start with by moving my hips side to side instead of forward and back. YMMV but worth trying.
Tysm for this piece of info. The hoop size matters alot. I've been practising with a small hoop for past few days but wasn't really able to then I saw this video and damn.💃 Thanks again 🤗
I really appreciate this. It worked on the second try after watching this video, but I need a lot of practice. However, I did better today than ever before.
Yes there is. We currently have a series of videos with Abbey and I. To see her progress click the videos links in the description of this video. Abbey is awesome by the way!!!
You are so welcome! I was wondering why is hula hooping so popular right now in Germany? The largest group of views recently from one country for this video is coming from Germany. I was wondering if something caused this to happen because it wasn't like this months ago.
I watched the first 10 seconds and then picked up my new weighted beginners hula hoop to try ... And immediately I could do it!! I don't think I've ever understood or been shown how to actually hula hoop 😂 thank you!
Thanks for this video. I have a 100 cm hula hoop with 1.2 kg and waves. At first I thought it was too big because the tire goes over my belly button, but it works better with this size. I practice it for 5 minutes almost every day. I would like to practice more, but I have little stamina and sweat very quickly. I also want to avoid as much bruising as possible
After watching this, I've gone from falling straight down to being able to get 6-7 spins. I already found this hula website that has a size guide and I tried chopping and slotting 2 hoops to make one slightly bigger than recommended and I still couldn't do it (until now). Atm, my Franken-hoop stands about an inch higher than my belly button, but the advice in this vid about waist-chest height- or even bigger is encouraging and I'm definitely going to put the section I removed back in and hopefully be able to do it more continuously :) -Also the foot position made a big difference!!
Thank you for amazing videos tutorial. That why I could not spin the small one that belong to my daughter. I watched your old video is very fun as well...very great job.
I still don't have the best answer for where the best place to buy a quality big hoop from. Unfortunately it's really hard to find hoops that big like the one I made in the video. I've even considered making my own and selling them.
Great video. I read many comments, hoping you would instruct on how to know a good quality from poor, and how to know how to buy one. For example, I want to buy one for each of my students. If a kid is 3'10", what would be the appropriate ring size?
I really appreciate this video using a COMPLETE beginner. I love that you are trouble shooting with her too.

Best Video ever.

Thank 🙏 you from Germany
You are so welcome! I was wondering why is hula hooping so popular right now in Germany? The largest group of views recently from one country for this video is coming from Germany. I was wondering if something caused this to happen because it wasn't like this months ago.
Thank you for such kind words!❤
I love how You teach, I could not do it. But after your video I can do it! Thanks, greetings from México ❤️

There is hope for me! Now I need to go search for these huge ones to achieve it - Thank you

YEAR, crazy! I did hula hoop! it's feeling and understanding how it's done.
That's great to hear!
Yay!
Thanks. I'm glad you have a hoop size that works for you
This is a fantastic tutorial! Just tried it and was able to keep the spin for the longest time I've ever done! Thanks so much :-)
You know what ... You are a magician man!!!!!! Thank you so much for this knowledge. I was dying with hula hooping with small hoop.
That's awesome. I love your dedication and drive! That's great you were able to get 6 to 7 spins. Way to go!
Glad we could help!😊
This the most wholesome channel 😌 thank you for always sharing detailed info with amazing patience!
Thank you for amazing videos tutorial. That why I could not spin the small one that belong to my daughter. I watched your old video is very fun as well...very great job.
That gives me hope, you explained so well, thank you for that 🤗

@@hoopsmiles Yeepeeeah, just got it!!! Practice and your help and I did it!! Thank you so much 🤗
Hi!
Where is the best place to buy quality a big hoop? I never hoola-hooped but I would like to start!
I still don't have the best answer for where the best place to buy a quality big hoop from. Unfortunately it's really hard to find hoops that big like the one I made in the video. I've even considered making my own and selling them.
Danke für die tollen Tips. Ich hatte es bisher auch nicht geschafft. Danke!
Hey thank you so much!
Bitte schon! Ich danke Ihnen für das Kompliment!😉
This video is Amazing!!! Thank you both so much.
Great video. I read many comments, hoping you would instruct on how to know a good quality from poor, and how to know how to buy one. For example, I want to buy one for each of my students. If a kid is 3'10", what would be the appropriate ring size?
