    I remember how I hated hula loop in gym classes at school but now I want to loose weight, especially around the waist and belly part of my body so I thought this could be a good additional exercise to target the area. I didn't had high hopes as it has always landed at my feet in seconds. I ordered a hoop and of course I had the same result, even after half an hour of trying. Frustrated I searched on the topic on RUclips and found your video. Your instructions are insanely on spot, first I changed to bigger loop and followed your advice. In seconds I was able to do it!!! I can't believe it! XD Finally as an adult I learnt how to use the hoop! Thank you so much :)

    Hey Smiles this is amazing. I didn't learn to hoop till I was 48. For the last 8 years, I make beginner hoops and teach all ages all sizes of people to hoop. Also I teach about the history of hooping. Because..... I live where Hoops had a rebirth in 1957 with the combined efforts between Whamo an Phillips 66 patrolium company. Using the new evention of Maralex plastic. Also responsible for the Frisbee. My grandson's and I donated 2 hoops we made to the 66 museum as they were using Walmart hoops is their inneractive display. I tripped out!. So we fixed it. Also In 2017 I hosted world hoop day here. I was born for my hoop journey 🙆

    Thank you for showing this with a total beginner. At least this gave me the feeling that she can relate to me. However, I am totally discouraged by the hoop size. Even if I find our construct a 5'' hoop in my apartment, I cannot use it. I would smash the TV. My apartment is very small. Now I need to figure out whether trying that hoop I bought or whether to give up. My hoop is 2 fingers width away from my belly button. That is the most I can use at home. It has stainless steel inside - so it does not move too fast.

    • @hoopsmiles
      @hoopsmiles  4 года назад +3

      Thanks for sharing about that. Here's the thing about using a bigger hoop. Typically when I have taught people and start them out with a larger hoop. I have found that the larger hoop can help teach their body how to move the correct way to keep the hoop up. Usually soon after, even in the same day of using the bigger hoop, they are sometimes likely to be able to use a smaller hoop size. In your situation is it possible to try a bigger hoop just for a day or 2. And then once you get the movements, maybe you can then try the smaller hoop you have.

    I found this really helpful, thanks. I bought an adult hoop but it doesn’t even come to my waist. I bought one which comes apart, so seeing you do this here, I know if I buy another one I will be able to extend the size.

    Good video! One thing I saw in another video that seems like a good starting point is your waist size * 1.2. I have a 35” waist and made myself a 42” hoop and has worked pretty well to learn waist hooping. And adding more weight via thicker tubing or more tape can potentially help as well (though too much can bruise you).
    Also, personally I found it a lot easier to start with by moving my hips side to side instead of forward and back. YMMV but worth trying.

    After watching this, I've gone from falling straight down to being able to get 6-7 spins. I already found this hula website that has a size guide and I tried chopping and slotting 2 hoops to make one slightly bigger than recommended and I still couldn't do it (until now). Atm, my Franken-hoop stands about an inch higher than my belly button, but the advice in this vid about waist-chest height- or even bigger is encouraging and I'm definitely going to put the section I removed back in and hopefully be able to do it more continuously :) -Also the foot position made a big difference!!

    Great video. I read many comments, hoping you would instruct on how to know a good quality from poor, and how to know how to buy one. For example, I want to buy one for each of my students. If a kid is 3'10", what would be the appropriate ring size?
