FYI to all newbie hoopers.... it took me OVER 2 MONTHS to get my hoop going around my waist... BUT... I kept watching and mastering various off body moves Deanne posted tutorials for and I got pretty good at many of those before I could even get that darn thing around my waist! Don't give up!!! Thanks Deanne!

So I've watched quite a few of your videos, but I never got a hoop so I couldn't practice. I went to Disney World a week ago and they had some hoops out near a DJ at Animal Kingdom so I decided to pick one up with my daughter so she wouldn't be too shy to try and remembered your beginner tips. I was the only person (kids and grown ups) that could keep it up on my waist. It felt so awesome! Thanks for helping me look like a cool mom ;)

Bonnie this is so exciting! I noticed you left this message a month ago so you must be getting so much better now! Dizziness is def a part of it but if it is very disturbing you can make sure that you rest frequently, try to slow down your spinning and increase the intensity of your pulsing with you body to keep the hoop going. Let me know how you go!

    Hi Deanne!
First of all just want to say that I love your videos! I have learned so much from them!
I started hooping in July because I was trying to lose weight and get fit. I was having alot of pain and it seemed everything I was doing just made the pain worse. The only thing I could do was walk and I wanted to do something more. I had tried lots of other things but everything seemed to bother my body so much that in no time I gave it up.. feeling very much defeated😢 Then one day I was just on RUclips watching whatever and came across one of your videos! I was hooked! I still remember the look my husband got on his face when I told him that I wanted to learn to hoop! Priceless!
For years I thought I was crazy, that the pain I was feeling was just because I was "getting old"...at least that's what people kept telling me!😠 Even my doctor! Did I mention that I'm 41 years young! Anyway, as it turns out, I'm not old or crazy! A month ago I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I had mixed emotions finding out. I was sad to know that this was what was wrong, but happy because I wasn't crazy! There actually IS something wrong!
Thank you so much for these videos! You have no idea how you have changed my life! You are an angel with her halo around her waist!💗
    Hugs: Crystal Dawn

Thank you!! I have never been able to keep up a hula hoop for more than a few seconds - and we are talking childhood here, long before anybody told me it could be good for something :) Today it occurred to me that maybe there is a method to this - duh! - so I went online and came across this video. After watching the first part of your video I realized that of course I was just moving too many parts of my body all at once! I tried to start in a sort of warrior 1 position (if you do yoga), with one foot about one step in front of the other, knees bent and then I tried to not move the legs while hooping (other than a bit of bounce at the knees). And it worked! I could keep the hoop up for 10 minutes and later I even tried with my feet together, as you show in the video, and that worked too, although I did need to focus more on the movement. I don't know if my abs will thank me, but who cares, I feel happy and this just made my day :) Thanks again!

Thanks for the video, I’ve been trying to get it stay more than 4 rotations on my waist since young and everyone in my family could do it except me. After trying to move my body parts separately I kind of got the hang of it and managed to get from 4 rotations to a maximum of 20 rotations in 30 mins.
Great advice. I will try to get to the point where the hula to rotate until I want it to stop.

This video really helps!! I thought it wouldn't, bc I was nvr able to go past 1 spin & I was able to go for almost an entire min, but then I became out of breath & had to sit down. Thank you!! Keep making videos like this, one day I might actually be able to show off.

Spinning in the opposite direction for an extra challenge can be fun and balancing but not essential. Hooping is about feeling good and having fun so go with what feels right for you!

Amazing how we did this as kids with no one telling us how to do it. We just picked it up and started doing it around our waist our neck or arms. I got a weighted hula hoop today and couldn't do anything except pick it up. I did watch your video and am doing it a little bit better thank you.

Learned this is less than a minute - but for a while I've been doing the "invisible hula hoop" workout so I kind of have the motion in check. Oh, I have a tip though and I'm not sure if it works but it did for me instantly: if your right handed - toss the hoop in the left direction. If your left handed, toss the hoop in the right direction. Again, I don't know if this works or if this is already known, but just saying.

Wow, I just realized that I have been using a kid's hula hoop. I was completely unaware of that. I still manage some 200-300 rotations at a time, but I will definitely get myself a bigger one. Thank you so much for the tutorial. It's really well explained and easy to follow :)

    • @DeanneLove
      @DeanneLove  10 лет назад +14

If you hoop is too small you will find that you may have less success, you might not feel as comfortable with hooping on the body.

I can't seem to get enough momentum without pushing through my toes and rocking my waist with my legs, whenever I try to isolate my legs and "pulse" from only my stomach or chest the hoop just drops. Is this just a matter of muscle and strength?

I have a quick question for anyone who knows.
I used to be very good at this when I was a kid, but at this point I haven't done it in 8 years and I can't hula hoop at all. But if the size of the hoop is really important then it may be because I still have the same hoop as when I was a kid and at this point it comes to my knees. I can "hula hoop" with my individual legs( while sitting down) and I can hula hoop with my individual arms, but I can't keep the hula hoop in the air for longer than 3 seconds on my waist (or hips or lower). So my question is whether or not the size of the hula hoop is really that important. I know that the video said it was, but I also know that teachers tend to exaggerate a lot when they're talking to beginners. And if anyone also happens to know: why does the size of the hoop actually matter that much (if it does)? But this question is just curiosity, I'm more interested in the first question.
Thanks in advance for anyone with answers or tips!

IIsuperstarII it is because of centripetal force! Physics dictates that the larger the radius of a circle, the less force required for uniform circular motion.
