Totally agree that it’s possible to over perfect a restoration to a point where something old loses it charm. That’s becoming a common thing on RUclips restoration channels.
I was faced with this decision for my 1928 Wurlitzer theatre organ keyboard manuals. Rather than attempt repairs or trying to match, I decided to replace them all, all three keyboards. What went back on was cattle bone keytops by Malik in the Czech Republic on the border with Poland. They are absolutely gorgeous but they are not white, rather a light tan and against what will be the dark brown stain of the console when I get around to it, the effect will be stunning. This console was originally wedding cake white with gold trim which I hate so I placed new wood veneers on the case and will stain hopefully by this summer. BTW - good work restoring the look and playing surface of this piano.
Haha your joke about the gluten wheat penny had me rolling! I originally came to this channel to learn about my play piano but I’ve stayed for your humor!
This was fascinating to watch Nate. White, or should I say, 'off white' is possibly the hardest to match on anything, not to mention ivory keys. So i think you did a sterling job. I'm a perfectionist too, but this time it's just fine. Remember, 6-6 rule 👍. Thanks for this latest upload good sir :). Oh & 12:54 😂😂😂😂
Interesting way to show how sand paper works 👍 Even more interesting demo of the keys on fire. 🔥🔥 Great video and the keys look so much better 2x👍 Oh I just finished reading a book by the person you described, no not you're grandpa but Joan Rivers 🤣 She needed to keep away from naked flames too being so plastic. 🤣🤣
You know, the funny thing is, that I learn a lot here in Holland from your language humor. :-) There are really many tedious, lonely jobs when you restore those players for sure. Experiencing sanding as a form of yoga might help to stay tuned..
Hi Nate, great videos. I wonder if you could do something on the care and repair zof piano rolls. There does not seem to be much of any quality out there
Please look into correcting your audio levels. Any time I watch this channel I have to turn up my headphone volume up to over 2x what I normally keep it at.

No matter what we do it will always be an old piano. May as well embrace it. Thank you for taking the time to comment!

Sounds like you have quite the project on your hands! Keep at it and thanks for your comment.

Thank you for sticking around! It's hard to keep the puns out.

The trick when matching off white is to determine what's off about it.
Thanks for watching and for your feedback. Cheers!
Nate, once again, Your videos are informative, interesting and funny. Keep them coming.
Thank you for coming back for more!

I'm glad you liked it! I wasn't sure how my ultra low budget demo would do.
Thanks Nate! This keyboard restoration video was flamin’ hot!🔥🔥🔥
Hey! I'm glad you liked it.
Tooth paste does a good job cleaning ivory keys. Put a little on a soft cloth and scrub. Wipe with a damp cloth to get rid of any residue.
Loving this series. Great work!
I'm really glad, thank you.
Absolutely great! Thanks for an informative and entertaining video.
I'll call that a success, then! Thanks for watching.
Numbering the keys with an automatic numerator is brilliant!
I always thought the numbers were punched into them at the factory.
Great job, Nate!
Thanks for watching, Daniel!

I'm glad you're picking a few things up.
Yes, key sanding is lonely but also meditative in a way. I'm glad it's over though.
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!
For removing ivory keytops without burning them, you can use a damp rag between the iron and the keytop.
(Sorry if this advise has already been made.)
Great Video Nate I Enjoyed It😊
Thank you!
Yeah, next episode Nate !
I've had good success with UV light, whether natural or artificial, when whitening ivory keytops. Think 'bones bleaching in the desert' 🙂
Ivory replacement can be so hard sometimes due to the grain, color, thickness, and shape of the chunk
Learn me up !
I hope it worked!

Thanks for mentioning this! Yes, I intend to do a video on roll repair sometime in the future.
9:33 Is that cellulose nitrate?

I'll up them for the next time, thanks for letting me know!
I don't know. Worst out of two!?!?! That sounds pretty bad.
