Thank you for watching the video, It means a lot to me .
I will leave this pinned message here to REMIND everyone that i do not have TELEGRAM and there is no GIVEAWAY. Those you see are bot scams . Keep yourself safe and know that I would not ask for your info. ❤ ❤
"Alien" also means just a person from another country...yes he is the lead from The Police - very distinctive voice and a LOT of great solo work
O-oh, i'm an Alien.
I'm a legal Alien...
Seems like variation for Ridley Scott))
Hi Bisscute ❤ the elderly gentleman who appears in this video is Quentin Crisp, the man who this lovely song is all about. Sting is just amazing and has been for many years. 🙋♂
Hi, thanks for the info
Hi ,Bisscute , i went to a Sting concert 2 weeks ago. He was absolutely amazing even at the age of 71 , sounds just as good now as he did at 30 years old . Thank you for listening to him .
I'll go see him in December this year and I'm so excited. It will be the first time I see him live :D
@@IsabelleRSG you will have an amazing time , he's truly fantastic. 👍
This is from the “Nothing Like the Sun” which is a masterpiece of an album. I saw him in concert as part of The Police in 2008 as part of their last tour. In October I will see Sting as a solo act. He is the coolest man on earth in my view.
I loved the fact that he had all these jazz greats play on this album and in concert with him.
You must see the video of sting....goldfields❤
The elderly gentleman they keep showing in the video was Quentin Crisp an English raconteur, whose work in the public eye included a memoir of his life and various media appearances. Before becoming well-known, he was an artist's model, hence the title of his most famous work, The Naked Civil Servant. He had quiet the life and was a friend of Stings.
"it takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile" exactly. easier said than done! and i will continue to be myself, no matter what they say
Quentin Crisp did it with humour and dignity...
this was one of the favorites of a good friend (RIP). It spoke to his fascination of NYC and finding his own individuality.
If this is the first Sting song you’ve reviewed, then you should do Desert Rose by Sting. Incredible song.
Got it, thanks
Hey, she did it. The system works. 👍
Fields of gold is another brilliant song by him!
He's an amazing artist and singer. You won't be disappointed with other songs from his solo career or with The Police.
Branford Marsalis is so good on the soprano saxiphone on this track.
What a wonderful concert he put on when releasing this album
might need to check some out
I think you will absolutely love he's song "Shape of my heart", such a beautiful song with deeper meaning.. It was also featured in the heart braking last scene of the movie "Leon", and it just always hit's me very deep
Noted, thanks
He's got so many fantastic songs, it's ridiculous; "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You", "Fields of Gold", "A Thousand Years", "Desert Rose", "Brand New Day".... I'm not even that big of a Sting fan, I just got those songs stuck in my head after randomly listening to him :)
So many great Police tunes to react too, Wrapped Around Your Finger or The Bed’s Too Big Without You are another 2 bangers ❤
Some of my favorite Sting solo songs are: Fortress Around Your Heart, If You Love Somebody Set Them Free, Love Is The Seventh Wave, Fields of Gold, All This Time
When I was nine or ten years old, I saw a video clip on TV about a man with a huge umbrella, who sang as if with a slightly cold voice, wandering through the city streets. I didn't know who it was, I didn't know what the song was and what it was about. But I wanted to wander the streets under a huge umbrella in the same way. And I also remembered, of course, the melancholic clarinet solo and the driving beat before the final verse. As usually happens, only after many years, as a teenager, I see a video clip on TV and ... what? The one? Sting? So that's who you are and that's where you are! 😃
I thought, that you know the song. It's really popular. Even the German comedian Otto has made his own version of it "Friesenjung in New York".
Other than that part where i recognized the music, I didn't know it
Fun fact: this video was directed by David Fincher, who would go on to direct such movies as Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network, Gone Girl, Zodiac etc.!
There's a cover by Shinehead called "Jamaican in New York" which is the version that I grew up listening to. I wonder if that's the song you remember hearing as a child.
"Alien" is a not so common word for "foreign" "not from this country" and actually the origin from the "not from this planet" concept 😂😂 just "aliens is a little despective word so he use it in a little ironic way.
Also is the origin for the term "alienated" a way to say "you're out of reality" then Green day did the game of words (in American 1diot) "Alien-Nation" like "a nation that doesn't lives in the reality, that just knows media and television and ignore how terrible the world is". I love how this song talks about how is to be a stranger, that you're in a stranger place but you go and try to vibe the same way still, but keeping your manners and costume. And his so BRITISH ACCENT-VOICE IS SO DELICIOUS.
Also, for completing the golden trio of Sting: Fields of gold and The shape of y heart are great songs. I don't know if you noticed Sting was the singer of The police (every breath you take).
ALSO this is a very English song, 😂😂 his voice and background but the bass is so New York so you get the message 😂😂
I see, thanks
Miss Bisscute I am so happy that you have reacted to one of my Sting recommendations, I have had the opportunity to see him play live on six occasions, 5 as a solo artist and one with The Police and it is a great experience. I hope you can react to these songs soon: Fragility, Fields of Gold and my personal favorite: Desert Rose, I know you will love it.💓💓
Hope you enjoy it
Every Breath You Take is a must, but all The Police songs are great.
Got it
Message in a bottle- the police.
Yes, Sting (real name Gordon Sumner) was the lead singer/ bassist of The Police... He has one of the most distinct voices in music - one of the great voices that include Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Prince, David Bowie, Madonna, George Michael, Michael Hutchence of INXS, Paul McCartney and John Lennon of The Beatles... etc etc.
More solo Sting songs - 'If I ever lose my faith'... 'Desert Rose'... 'Russians'... 'They dance alone'... 'Fragile'... 🔥🔥
I saw Sting perform in Japan a long time ago. It was one of my top 3 performance. 😊
As an American of English decent I have always loved this song - I really enjoyed your reaction - also , I hope you won't mind my saying , you are quite adorable
Such a good song! Alien means foreigner, someone who doesn't belong there. And "legal alien" means he's allowed to be there, as opposed to "illegal alien" which is the term for foreign people without the required documents and permissions.
Ahh I see, thanks
Field of Gold is one of my personal favorites as is If I ever lose my faith. I enjoy your reactions!
Thanks, glad you are enjoying them
There was a BBC programme “The Naked Civil Servant” about Quentin Crisp played by John Hurt
Good song and reaction, Biss! Some other songs of Sting to react to could be: Shape of my heart, Russians, Fields of gold. 👍
Thank you
You definitely can't go wrong with more Sting/Police :)
I'm looking forward to more from them
I never knew this was about Quentin Crisp. I feel it has a double meaning - Crisp as an alien Englishman in New York, but also Crisp as an alien in England, a homosexual when it was illegal and he suffered discrimination (from some), and so he left…
Shape of My Heart!!!
It’s funny you’re reacting to this because it came on the radio today at work and has been stuck in my head since this morning 😂 great reaction
Haha, thank you so much
Beautiful song.
RIght? such a beautiful song
Nothing but chill vibes from this song...completely forgot about it, ty for reminding me 👍
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it
The character he appears to be following is the one-time gay icon Quentin Crisp who moved to New York from the UK. Try Synchronicity II for something a bit different from Police.
Alien originally meant foreigner. The albums: "Nothing Like the Sun", "Bring On the Night", "Dream of the Blue Turtles", and "Soul Cages" are masterpices. You won't be disappointed adding them to your playlists. There isn't a bad song in any of them. He is an absolute genius songwriter/composer.
I would HIGHLY recommend watching the documentary film "Bring On the Night". It is a documentary of the prep for and the very first concert of his solo career. It has great songs on it both played in rehersels and at the concert, and gives fantastic incite into some of his creative processes. And the birth of one of his sons with "Russians" playing in the background is one of the most iconic shots in musical documentary.
Oh there is a live version of this performed by Sting and the reggae artist Shaggy that is really good. On NPR's Tiny Desk concert series.
Thank you for the list, hopefully ill get around to them in the future
I respectfully disagree a little... something got broken in him before the Soul Cages because that was not such a great record as the previous three you mentioned. As far as I know he went through some creative crisis after the Dream of the Blue Turtles that is why the Soul Cages took four years to be made. Since then Sting is not the same as he was before... this is just my opinion. His work with Shaggy is forgettable I think...
An excellent selection to react :) This guy really knows how to compose classic hits! He has many songs you must hear (and you possibly already know), like Shape of my heart, Desert Rose, Fields of gold etc, you'll love them. By the way, the "wooo" sound at the end you heard it's something they do with the percussion, this one I think is produced using a bucket with a (leather I think) cloth which they rub in the inside of the bucket and produces funny vocal like sounds (it's commonly used in latin music). They call it cuica
Thanks, ill note those down
There was a big soprano sax thing going on in the late 80s and early 90s and for me this felt like part of that. I liked its smooth and open jazz feel, but wasn't a big Sting fan. Bill Bruford's Earthworks were more my bag for that kind of sound.
This is one of my favorite later solo Sting songs. BTW, the guy playing that amazing soprano sax solo throughout the song was the legendary Branford Marsalis.
You looked puzzled at the lyrics, "I'm an alien / I'm a legal alien / I'm an Englishman in New York". Probably the "alien" part, no? lol! In this case, it's a legal term, not an E.T. space alien. An "alien" is just a non-citizen of a country. An legal alien is someone who's there legally. That's all!
Чёрно - белый мир. Зима. Но заиграл саксофон и согрел души людей ! Очаровательная ведущая в красивом платье завершила эту картину своим увлекательным рассказом !❤
"A gentleman will walk but never run" means you should walk away from unnecessary conflicts but not runaway when you must stand on principle.
Sting wrote the song about the famous eccentric and gay icon Quentin Crisp, who is the "Englishman" of the title. The song was composed not long after Crisp had moved from London to an apartment in the Bowery in Manhattan. Sting had met him and Crisp remarked jokingly to the musician that he "looked forward to receiving his naturalisation papers so that I can commit a crime and not be deported." When Sting asked him what kind of crime, he answered, "Something glamorous, non-violent, with a dash of style. Crime is so rarely glamorous these days." Sting included this story in the liner notes of his album ...Nothing Like The Sun.
(Wikipedia)
I remember a long time a go my English teacher used this song in a class and make us think how could we be an legal alien? The anser was when we don't fit in the society. Such a good song!
Right? its a good song
"Seven Days" is a must listen.
that woo-do sound coming from "cuica" which is Brazilian Percussion
Great song, Quentin Crisp was definitely an interesting character and trail blazer...
If you are reacting to more Sting please consider Fragile, Fields Of Gold, Shape Of My Heart, When We Dance……… loads of songs to pick from😃
Ill take those into consideration
A couple of connections here. Speaking of ‘Alien’, in Alien John Hurt played the stomach bursting first carrier. He played Quentin Crisp (the older gent in the video & the subject of the song) in the UK TV movie of his book, the Naked Civil Servant. One of his lovers in that movie later played Gimli.
I remember liking two music documentary films that came out around the same general time. One was based on Sting's first solo album and called "Bring On the Night," and the other was "Stop Making Sense" by the Talking Heads. Sting's film was about the making of "The Dream of the Blue Turtles," a behind-the-scenes type thing, and the Talking Heads film was a concert performance.
"An Englishman in New York" is from Sting's second solo album, "Nothing Like the Sun." If you like jazz, there's some jazz influence in Sting's solo work, especially the "Blue Turtles."
"Bring On The Night"...I still have that on VHS...somewhere. One of my favorite documentaries. I watched that one a lot back in the day.
@@jasontrebilcock6496 It seems to be uploaded to RUclips, so it's available to watch if anyone is interested.
Interesting, thanks for the info
@@BisscuteReacts FWIW, the "Stop Making Sense" full concert is uploaded as well. It's a classic.
Yes, he was lead singer for Police.. They had many great songs.
I TRULY believe that musically, there's nothing STING can't do!!
I've never heard him do deathcore vocals so that might be one of the many things he cant do musically. Not that I want to see him do deathcore vocals, although it might be amusing.
@@EnervatedSociety 🤣🤣🤣 Maybe, maybe not...we may never know!
He is amazing
"Desert Rose" is a beautiful song with a very beautiful video.
I still like my toast done on one side.
This was how i felt when I moved form London to Melbourne.
This is such a smooooooth song, so atmospheric.
It is
"Desert Rose" and "Shape of My Heart" are two more Sting songs you MUST listen to!
This might just be my most favourite Sting song.
Nice, glad you liked it
Sting has many hit songs with The Police & as a solo artist - a few awards too. He has also done some acting. You might come across his environmental philanthropy also.
Sting is a unique musician & troubadour. Some of his best work are the duets with other artists, like Tony Bennett or Sheryl Crow.
He is amazing, his voice is great
Recommend: Collective Soul. Song is called Run. Official video is good.
Thanks for the recommendation
Classic 🇸🇪
This is my favourite song by Sting
Glad you liked this
Quinten Crisp (the old guy) a character and a hero
I see
Sting is awesome. I stay tuned for more…
My other suggestions:
Nightwish -shoemaker
Paolo, Nutini - iron sky, life at Abbey Road studio
Hotel California by Eagles
Sting "shape of my heart " and a song he did for the lethal weapon 3 soundtrack "probably me" I'm sure Eric Clapton plays guitar on it x 😊
Both worth a reaction x
Those sound interesting, ill note them down
Hello bisscute. Love your russian accent, your are so cute and so expressive when you listen to songs. Love it!
she is romanian living in germany FYI
@@woeshaling6421 ok thanks
Sting's solo stuff. Fortress Around Your Heart, Russians both from 1985. You'd love both videos they are in black and white. Sting is super photogenic, even at his age now.
You may have heart of Otto Waalkes version "Friesenjung" or the new thing in Germany from Ski Aggu which is also called "friesenjung ft. Otto Waalkes". They share the same melody :)
Oh? maybe
Yes he is from The Police, no forgiveness required. Keep up the good work. Respect from Melbourne.
Thank you, glad you liked this
Please react Cakra Khan Audition in American Got Talent... is amazing.
In the future hopefully
My OH My by Slade ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Sting This genius is the owner of the original song
You might also like Daryl Hall's "I'm In a Philly Mood".
Yes he's the lead singer of the Police.
There was another version of this released in 1990 remixed by Ben Liebrand which might be the version you have heard. There was also a cover by a guy called something like PH Electro which is much faster.
hmmm might have to give it a listen to see
how about 2 for the price of one? Sting featuring Eric Clapton " it's probably me" a banger! !
Ill note that, thanks
Sting is cool 😁Hey, I want to suggest the 90s band Garbage, they have a female lead, I think you'll like them 😁
this whole album is great
Hopefully more in the future
Just found your channel and started enjoying. It seems you have done a few of the "youtube" hits that did not sell 1 million albums commercially but are incredible. Things like annmaykrannet vs giant rooks , and home free - constant sorrow and the like. I will suggest , Live from Daryl's house no can do with chromeo , and John Gomm - Passionflower. They are both incredible.
So happy you found the channel and are enjoying it
❤
Check out Sting's song Desert Rose
I will, someday
💜
Your English is wonderful.
Sting is fantastic. His work with The Police of course but his solo carrier too....
Next time maybe react to the song Fragile or Desert Rose
Quentin Crisp was a gay gentleman, a former model, writer and actor. He left the UK for New York in 1981 and remained there until he died during a visit back to Manchester in 1999 aged 90.
I've never liked Sting as a solo guy. Not sure why, I love all the Police stuff.
With the lyric "I'm a legal alien" it means his legal immigration status to the US. Per our legal code, immigrants are classified as legal or illegal aliens. It's just a part of our language with regard to our laws. He knew that and wrote great lyrics for a wonderful song.
Hi Bisscute, I love your musical reactions! 😊You're Romanian but you speak good English! Do you speak Italian too? 😉Ciao bella! 😘
Hi, glad you love the reactions. I know a little Italian
@@BisscuteReacts Good, I will continue to follow 👍, because I could give you musical advice, since I'm a musicologist! Great Sting! Here in Italy, we have a singer called NEK (Filippo Neviani), who is very inspired by Sting! 😉Alla prossima, bella morettina! 😘
Viral song in the US right now. "Rich men North of richmond: by Oliver Anthony. Has 21 million views in 9 days. It's a must listen to
Hello again sweetie. Good reaction to Sting, which I like too. He is good, both in the group Police and as a solo artist. If you want another suggestion for a good song by Sting, check out "Fields Of Gold". Then, of course, there are many other good songs by him. I have most of his albums in my music collection. Just let me know. 😉Have a great time! ❤
Sting is amazing...his " Mad About You" is brilliant...Can you react Elthon John - Believe please?
Maybe someday Ill get to that
He's saying that he is an Alien I'm an english man in New-York.
Hi Biss... Please, listen to the album " Nothing like the sun" and specially a tune called "Little wing" wich has been written and created by Jimi Hendrix...
think my fav Sting solo song is Desert rose , just got a great sound and vocals
Oh? might have to check it out sometime
@@BisscuteReacts your into your films too Sting also stared in a few like the original Dune and also the film made by the band the who 1979 Film ' Quadrophenia '
Hi Bisscute, don't comment much but have enjoyed your reactions from the start. The folk on here who mention Quentin Crisp have it right. He is the subject of this song and appears throughout the video...... as someone said look him up to get the full context.
Thanks for the info and im glad you are enjoying the reactions
More Sting! More Police!
More in the future
Yes the 1st meaning of "alien" is a "stranger/foreigner", so a being coming from another place... as an extraterrestrial does...
I see, thanks
Desert rose is a great sting song
Oh?
I was your 600th like (not to brag or anything). This is an above average Sting song but definitely not one of my favorite ones. Glad that you reacted to it though.
You said that when you didn't know English , right ? What country are you from and was it easy learning ? 👌
He's got even better as he's aged.
Check out a live intimate performance Sting did with Shaggy..... a great live performance.
The song is called Don't Me Me Wait
The video is here: ruclips.net/video/bdneye4pzMw/видео.html
Ill check it out someday
