The drummer is Stewart Copeland, one of the greatest drummers of all times! Great band and great song
A drummer's drummer is Copeland...
I'm a metal drummer, but Copeland rules. One of the greats. Like the other dude said, a drummers drummer
@@bigmuthatrukka he has that kinda Charlie Watts style of looking effortless
Copeland is a killer musician. He writes and composes quite a bit for TV and film as well
@neilpatrickhairless and he released singles under the name klark Kent..
The third verse has always gotten me. “I couldn’t believe what I saw/A hundred million bottles washed up on the shore/Seems I’m not alone in being alone/A hundred million castaways looking for a home.” I’ve never forgotten that kind of storytelling.
They either intentionally or unintentionally borrowed the theme from Tony Orlando and dawn's "Tie a Yellow Ribbon round the old oak tree" with the surprise response to the call out (message in a bottle vs tie a yellow ribbon). It's a feel good ending to both songs.
A hundred billion is a roundabout estimate for every human being who has ever lived.
Saw this band in London 1977(maybe early 78)....the crowd were mainly punks who wasn't expecting a reggae based rock band. They were brilliant live.....absolutely amazing 👏
Stewart Copeland is an awesome drummer
One of the best - every note matters, a master of minimalism.
Andy Summers is one of the greats of rhythm guitar, along with the likes of Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson Jr, Johnny Marr
Andy Summers is one of the greatest guitar players ever period. He is very innovated with effects, great jazz player, great rock player, great classical guitar player too. Not just a rhythm player.
@@michaelkarn3457 - It was Sting who had come up with the guitar parts in 'Message In A Bottle', though.
" It seems I am not alone being alone" God I love the Police, I have been listening to them since 1980. They still were on my Spotify top 5 :) I would recommend "Every little thing she does is Magic" and Don't stand so Close to me" Sting is the Bass player btw. Love your reaction!
The Police were definitely huge in the 80s era. They sort of came out of what's called the British New wave, which was like in the late 70s and 80s, after punk first became a thing there and was influential on the scene, and then there was a lot of different stuff that was kind of a mix of punk, pop, reggae, and early electronic music, I guess. The drummer Stewart Copeland is American, but I think his mother is Scottish though, and he had been living over there and playing in different bands when they hooked up, and then after first getting some success, The Police migrated to the New York City scene, and I believe Sting has lived in New York ever since.
Great post. And I remember that Copeland's older brother - Miles Copeland - was the founder of I.R.S. Records - probably the coolest record label in the 80's (along with island records) - a lot of great artists on both labels.
No...Sting didn't and doesn't live in New York much. He does I think have a holiday home there or place..but he mostly resides in the UK or I think Tuscany
Late 70s early 80s police were one of the best bands on the planet
Stewart Copeland is the drummer and the one who made the Police so special. His style, rhythm, and pacing was top of the game.
Excellent Dune mention. He played Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. 1984.
One of my favorite Police songs. That guitar riff is perfect. It's amazing that they decided to call it quits at the very height of their success. A smart move, I think.
This song is from their second album "Reggatta De Blanc" released 1979 and their first UK number 1 single. They released five studio albums first 1978 and the last one 1983. I really like your reactions Miss Bisscute,
The Police were one of the biggest bands in the 80s. Live they put on a great show. Saw them in '81 and later in around '85
They were a bit earlier-1978-1986 when they split up. Dune was 1984. Them & Madness were the two biggest bands here in the UK of the first half of the 1980's.
These guys were real musicians, the guitarist had played with everybody from Eric Clapton, studied in America, and actually jammed Jimi Hendrix. The album this came off, including this song was recorded in 10 days!
Police were very famous from the late 70´s to the mid 80´s - but the music creates a special style and is timeless good!!
Copeland and Sting was such a dynamic one two punch, they made some really great "pop" songs together!
Late 70s Roxane introduced us to white reggae. Stewert Copeland the drummer put this band together and wrote many of the songs.
Huge in the '80s, The Police were one my favorite bands. They were one of those bands that always wrote hits. Nothing they wrote was ever 2nd best.
You really can't go wrong with any song/album from the Police...they're all good in their own ways. While Synchronicity is their most commercially successful album, I am a bigger fan of Ghost in the Machine (which was my initial introduction to the band.)
So, when it comes time to do your next reaction, "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". It's both a fun song and video.
Vocals guitar bass and drums all very distinctive and could only be The Police, great band/song. Late 70s early 80s was their heyday
Four of the biggest groups of the '80s probably were. Van Halen Genesis Rush and The Police. Aside from Van Halen the other groups were all 3 piece bands/groups ! Keep up the good work and stay safe and be well !
Right you are, Sting is a very talented artist. Classic song from the time. Sting's Desert rose is the most recent thing I remember him doing but 79-80s was peak sting.... my moms jams.
WALKING ON THE MOON ..... their best song imao! °__°
Copeland's masterclass
Yes Miss Bisscute, great choice, please More The Police and More Sting songs reactions.😊😊 Suggestions: Every Breath you take, King of pain. From Sting: Brand New Day, Fields of Gold.
Hello Miss Bisscute !!! Here is A song from them called !! ( Don't stand so close to me ) as always the like button 🔘 has been Illuminated 😁👍👍😎🤗
📢🥴I forgot how hard this song hits.
🎸🥁Back when pop music had badass musicians creating it.
👉Next, to up the aggression level: The Police - Synchronicity II
🥵The lyrics are as vicious as the groove.💥
The Police are one of those rare bands that never recorded a bad song. Ever. They did 5 albums, and every song had a reason and purpose. None of it was filler, none of it was product.
1979….Hatfield Poly….(I’m a Welwyn Garden boy)…One of my first concerts
The FIRST live performance of Message In A Bottle
Yay, more The Police! Check out the video for their song "Don’t Stand So Close to Me". Such a massive hit. "Nice bass" - yep, Sting typically plays the bass. Oh, and the drummer (Stewart) was always banging random things in their music videos so he wasn't stuck behind a drum kit! 😂
That bass in the chorus is very reggae/dub style, so that might be stuff to check out if you enjoyed it!
Superb band, superb musicians and Sting is a superb lyricist, there are many Police tunes you could react to. Try “The beds too big without you”.
The Police 1977 - 1984 Then they had a reunion tour 2007 - 2008 The Police, there will never be another band like The Police!! Just WOW!! Saw them in 1984 and again in 2007. Amazing in concert, so much energy!
I'm so glad to see them on tour in 2006 (Tickets sold out on the Syncronicity tour). They were killer live. Like most talented individuals they found it hard to work together eventually. But when they were on, they were amazing.
Sting can play just about anything with strings, piano, drums, and so much more. Sting does a fantastic ballad version of this song on the "Bring on the Night" documentary. Would love to see you react to that just because of how much of a different take it is to this version.
Love to see anything Police, or Sting solo. The "Bring on the Night" Album is some of Stings greatest stuff. And the Documentary with the same name is quite good too.
Oh hey you should react to Laufey. If you aren't a jazz fan now, she'll make you one, she has an incredible voice.
Simple song. Very catchy!
...until you try to play the verse's guitar part! 😅
Saw them in 1981. Opening act : The GO GO'S !!!!!!!!! Great show.
One of the first songs I learned on bass. Love it!
Driven To Tears (live in Frejus) is a good quality live performance video from The Police. Highly recommended. 👍
Bisscuttie- you should listen to the police “wrapped around your finger “. Great story telling
Sting is under rated as a musician, and as a music writer, due to his pop fame. He is super talented.
This song very much spoke to me when it came out. I was just starting secondary school, hitting puberty, and acutely insecure and lonely - socially and romantically. The Police was my personal soundtrack playing in my head on the way to and from school.
A very good day from Liverpool UK. Love you Bisscute 👍👍🙏🙏🎸🎸💋💋💞💞
"It's a very catchy song"
All songs from The Police are catchy. The rhythm section was one of the best in 80s music.
All three of them are the rhythm section
There is no section..as all of them do the rhythm
@@paulharrisonadventuregearm5457 Rhythm sections are bass and drums. Guitars can play rhythm parts, but aren't considered to be part of the rhythm section in a traditional 3 piece band without a dedicated lead guitar player (4 piece band).
You should check out Driven to Tears or Canary in a Coal mine by The Police
Also "Wrapped Around Your Finger." A wonderful example of the power of minimalism.
@@jordanwindham3804 Or Walking On the Moon or Tea in The Sahara, The Police have hits for days, what a rabbit hole she just went down
Beautiful Song. Thanks Gorgeous Biss
Oh, and also: Because it fits the season so well, maybe check out 'Don't Stand So Close To Me' soon, together with the alternate Christmas version of the video clip!
🎅👍
man a lot of people look down on 80's music as being campy or silly or just glitter....But there are many jewels from that decade...this is one of them
Er, 1979
really that one came out in 79? thought was 80..meh@@Milvus23
FYI, they are not playing that live. That is the studio version. That's how all official videos are done.
Wrapped Around Your Finger & Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic are two more great Police songs.
Sting and Andy summers are British but Stewart Copeland (drums) is American.
As someone who's been a professional drummer for over 45 years I can say that Mr Copeland is up there with some of the greats.
Love playing "police" covers because of all the off-beats and little flicks and pushes.
Of course my biggest hero is Niel Peart from Rush RIP Niel.
Ps. I love the way you roll your R's. Not to be confused with rolling your arse which is something else. 😂
✌️❤️🇬🇧
you are charming biss, yes the period of the police is from 1978 to 1983 last album!!! they never do another album except a live one for a reunion tour!!!!!
🇨🇦 Music written and recorded between 1959 and 1989 was the best new music ever, since the mid 1800's ! The reason that today's music cannot measure up is simply that music from that period was lively, happy, unique, creative and today's music is a mixture of controversy and anger, of words with no feeling, and Shouting for attention ! There are a few really talented artists today, but they are being drowned out by the attention seekers and the ego trippers ! 🇨🇦
The Police's biggest hit was 'Every breath you take'... everybody has heard that song in passing. Some of my faves:
'Wrapped around your finger' ... "I can't stand losing you" ... 'Every little thing she does is magic" ... 'Spirits in the material world'... 🔥🔥
Hi great - isn´t it - will see Sting now the second time this summer in Salem !! He is now over the 70´s old.....
Brits took to “Ska” Caribbean style music that influenced music in the late 70’s and 80’s became popular
6:31-Speaking of the drummer's energy, Copland's a human rubber band when he plays..fast, snappy, and crazy timing. He's been voted top 5 all time in many polls! As for Sting, he really has great bass chops..I see he always favored the Fender Jazz Precision model. He ain't a bad actor either--watched him play a crazy Dr. Victor Frankenstien ( The Bride, 1985) and a surly bar owner in a British gangster comedy from the same director of "Snatch". A good weekend to ya!
Here's what comedian Dana Carvey said about Sting: "Cause he's not Stung, and he's not Stinging, he's Sting." Love your reaction to an iconic band.
Very nice reaction to a classic Police tune. If you want to hear the drummer, Stuart Copeland, really letting it hang out, check out Walking on the Moon...
For solo Sting, I think you would love "Brand New Day"...especially the live TV version that had special guest Stevie Wonder. It is the ultimate (what you would call) feels good song. 😁
Stuart is only hitting the chairs in the video. He plays the song on real drums. Sting has always played bass. The Police members were very high strung characters that sometimes got on each other's nerves like siblings would.
Good morning from Minnesota
1977, 1978 to 1983, technically , officially, 1986, but it was over in 83, they fought a lot….reunited in 2007 made a zillion dollars on the tour….theyre amazing…theyre friends now, but they’re volatile together, ha.
Love your reactions!! Bob Seger next? 🙂🙂
Maybe also check out their song and video 'Walking On The Moon' some time, in which the drummer uses an actual space rocket as his drum set!
😂🚀🌙🥁
The police - cant stand losing you
Thanks for reaction
I remember when this single came out. Mind blowing.
Their song Walking On The Moon has a similar vibe. A Carribean flavor with a simple baseline and simple but catchy lyrics.
This song is great!! Great reaction Biss 😊
Reacction excellent.❤my band favorite.classic song.
Love your reactions. Great song.
Neil Peart, & Stewart Copeland, my drum gods & were great friends.
Love your reactions! Brings memories!
Well, two sort of young men, and one not particularly young man. 😄
When this song was released:
Stewart Copeland: 27
Sting: 28
Andy Summers: 37
Ren said his new record would channel some of his influences including this band.
They have so many great songs.
Hey beautyfull ladie!!! I saw them live. Amazing!!!! Thanks. Good reaction!! Greettings from Argentina
Great music!!!, we need music like this today!!! Thanks for the great reaction Madalia!
78-84 they finished ontop and after five studio albums.
They are not playing, it’s just a video, great tune!
I had the privilege to see sting live Sting is the lead singer of the police and it was awesome even better a free ticket aswell
I'm always amazed when trio's can create such great music. Great reaction B
One of my top 5 bands of all time legends a pity they stop recording love your reaction Bisscute
Stuart Copeland is an iconic drummer one of the Best in timeing to hit the drums, right the Police has great songs 1975 until 1986
I prefer to listen to the studio version of a song first, so I hear all the instruments, lyrics and nuances. The true intent of the artist(s). Then I appreciate a well done live performance more. This is a fair song, not in the Police's top five. "Every little thing she does is Magic" is great.
Юные музыканты пробуют свои силы в искусстве! Пожелаем им удачи! Biss им в помощь!❤
"The bass is like Listen to me! Listen to me! Listen to me!" Yup, that's Sting alright. lol
You look great and happy. Keep doing what you're doing!
He was great in Dune! Loved that movie..
The police came to the fore by playing ska/punk/reggae music with a fast, driving beat filled with energy. Try Driven to Tears live if you want to understand where they came from. Most people know them from when they had commercial success, but their early music (Regatta de Blanc and Outlandos d'amour) is pure magic. The live videos are the best by far. Videos like this were from the beginnings of MTV, and music videos were often cheesy and poorly done - the technology just wasn't there like it is today.
Another great song:
The Police - Every Breath You Take (Official Music Video)
There is a live version that Sting does in the 80's I think. Check it out. I think it was " The Policemans Ball " show.
Just brilliant ❤
Early Police music videos are from when MTV was just starting and was in desperate need of new videos... some artists went all out on videos and made really expensive onces.. but usually the Police just looked like they took a cheap 8mm camera and messed around for an hour... like they didnt take em seriously... until THEY started doing big budget videos like the Kurosawa style Synchronicity video.
Greatest trio ever…..not even their most unique song, but a good one….Stewart Copeland is a genius.
Maybe the greatest trio for that genre but I must respectfully disagree. ZZ Top was the greatest trio ever. Only my opinion.
RIP Dusty Rhodes
Early Police is awesome. A must react!
stewart copeland even now in his 70s still has the same energy. u should check out the live version of wrapped around your finger Stewart Copeland version. his sense of humor is pricesless
watching this video you can see the animosity between sting and stewart copeland
Stewart Copeland! What a great drummer... one of the best. Good friend of Neil Peart, too, from what I understand. Also, there was a lot of tension with the Police back in the day. I think Stewart and Sting basically hated each other, which is why Stewart acts pretty obnoxious in all their videos (IMO).
