Learn how to build a Modern Barn Door in this video!
To Build this Barn Door you will need the following tools/materials 🛠🧰 :
    Barn Door Hardware Kit: amzn.to/476dLDg
    Barn Door Handle: amzn.to/40i50nC
    Barn Door Rail/Track Guides: amzn.to/40jjyTJ
    Utility Knife: amzn.to/3QW7rY7
    Carpenter's Square: amzn.to/3GQ8YdN
    Circular Saw: amzn.to/3w9ZMvR
In this video, I will show you how I built a DIY Modern Barn Door completely from scratch. Specifically, you will learn how to create a modern looking barn door pattern using a veneer, how to install barn door mounting hardware, and how to install the barn door on the mounting track.
For this project, I started with a plain solid core door (30"x80") that you can buy from Home Depot. You could use a piece of plywood as well, but I wanted something a bit more heavy duty. Next, I installed a peel and stick wood-look veneer panel on the door in a chevron pattern. Although I used peel and stick materials, I would use actual wood if I was doing this again. You would have to attach the real wood to the door using construction adhesive and brad nails.
After installing the door veneer, I built a "perimeter casing" to go around the door using PVC trim. I cut it to the right width and then installed it around the barn door using construction adhesive and brad nails. Next, I caulked any gaps and then painted the perimeter casing of the barn door black.
Next, I installed the barn door hardware. I purchased all of my barn door hardware separately on Amazon, but you could also buy a complete set that has everything included. I found that it was cheaper to by everything separate based on the look I was going for.
Finally, I installed the barn door on the sliding track and tested it out!
Overall, this was a fun project and I think it really helps to give my basement bathroom a unique, modern look. Let me know what you think!

Hi Andrew, I am a new subscriber and I am sort of a DIYer and I love your content. Only thing I would like to see more of is at the end of your videos. If you could do like you did with the shed and show people how much money they are looking at spending most DIY RUclipsrs shows the project but very few go through the actual prices like you did for your shed. Build anyway keep doing what you’re doing. I love it.

Somehow I saw the last scene first! I was thinking that you had purchased a logging saw, cut down a tree, and made a slab into a door, but this ideas is good too. Beautiful barn door adaptation and nicely executed; kindest regards to you and l'il brother. I can't wait for more. I'm passing this one on to my kids who think they want a barn door somewhere . Thanks as always. Stay warm; that cold front gets here in LA tonight!

Like those ‘ barn’ doors, I’ve installed lots of pocket doors that you have to plan and install during framing then casings etc for finishing. Those do about the same with limited swing room for doors and have a great look too!! NICE JOB👍

I like pocket doors better for sure but they definitely require a bit more planning work. This will work for me though. Thanks for watching!

Yet another outstanding how-to video! Very helpful. BTW, is there a video in which you are installing kitchen cabinets? I've seen still shots indicating there might be, but I can't find the corresponding video. Thanks, and good job!

Thanks - not my favorite project, but I figured it might help some people get ideas. I did the kitchen before I started this Channel unfortunately. So I will need to do a kitchen remodel on my next house. Thanks for watching!

But how do you get the door to lock for privacy? I've been thinking about doing a barn door for my bathroom but can't figure out a good way for it to be locked on the inside but still have a way to open it from the outside in case of emergencies

Hi! They make locks for barn doors but I didn’t install one since this is for a bathroom door within a lockable bedroom. Thanks for watching!

I HATE these type of doors. They're not even doors, DOORS LOCK, no privacy, these are opposite of a door, mind as well just not have anything there at all, because that's what it feels like, ESPECIALLY TO A BATHROOM!!!!

    • @AndrewThronImprovements
      @AndrewThronImprovements  7 месяцев назад +2

Haha I hear you! But it’s in a lockable bedroom so I’m not too worried about it. Thanks for watching!
