Why is a certified installer for Home Depot and Lowe’s watching a video on how to install a door 🤔 this just shut assures me not to hire any Home Depot employees. Haha.
@@dylanhowes2885 first things first, this came up on my recommendation videos, so if I watch it that’s on me wanting to watch a video not on my level of knowledge for door installs. So that’s up to you man if you want to hire them. I could care less hahahahahaha
@dylanhowes2885 it's professional courtesy. He's not watching cause he doesn't know how to do his job he's watching to see if the other guy knows what they're doing. Which, obviously he does since the guy thanked him for his thoroughness. Doesn't make him unqualified in the slightest.
First house owner here and was young with anger issues how I had to learn the hard way😂 replacing a door yourself a pain in the ass yes, but paying for the price is pain up And around in your ass 💀
the sill pan, the waterproof tape, the OSI caulk, the spray foam insulation. Everything was textbook brother very impressed! You killed it! Love the color of the door and hardware combo.
That bit of information really helped me out since I’m in the middle of a remodel and wasn’t aware of the sill pan product. Nice to always learn from your videos 👏
This was the most detailed and easy to understand video I have watched on RUclips. Thank you so much for your attention to detail and level of excellence.
Thank you for this video! I sold my newer home and purchased a older home, not realizing it needed more work. Luckily for I know how to work with my hands. I’ve learned lots from RUclips university lol this little 9 minute video didn’t not miss anything
Just bought first house, took possession yesterday! Gonna subscribe, and definitely be watching your videos for improvement ideas! Awesome stuff thanks man!
I can agree drilling through the door for the knob hardware was intimidating for me as well. I almost called someone but did it myself with success. I used the included template which made it super easy.
Thank you! I just replaced my door and what should have been a 30-minute project turned into a 3-day project. The previous owners put a faux brick facade over the front of the door. The trick I used was to Sawzaw the frame in half and take it out piece by piece. Then getting the new frame in was easier. I had to fill about a 1.5 inch air gap between one side of the frame and the house with a 1x6, but it sealed up nicely thanks to your guide! The shims are always a pain in the rear for me, lol
Nice job on this install. I recently found your channel and I like your content. Keep your videos just like this - good info, presented well, at a reasonable length. I'll be checking out more of your videos. Thanks for sharing. I actually like that front door color.
This is by far the best video on RUclips on exterior door installation. It covered every step along the way. I will say in my house in particular, since it's a bit older, the frame was a VERY tight fit into the side of the house which presented some challenges. It's never as easy as you see online or TV, but that said, this video was the best guide I found.
I'm in the middle of replacing the rear exterior door on my home built in 1985. The gap between the door frame and rough framing is tiny, and my rear siding is basically a reverse of the brick mold shown on this door, where the door frame is hidden by the siding itself. Next step is to cut away all the nails holding the frame on, then I'll be ready to pull the door out. Hopefully the tight fit doesn't present too many challenges!
I was considering installing my own door because the estimates were really expensive, but this convinced me that I'll probably get a professional to do it lol Great content though!
Thanks for the quality video! About to do my first door replacement on a stucco finish. Going to reuse the slab so I’ll be replacing the jamb and threshold. I like the pvc sill you used! I have no step down, it’s flush from interior to exterior so I’m not sure what I’ll do for weatherproofing at the threshold.
If you fill the gap in the framing with expansion foam and flash the face of the jamb you don't have to butyl the entire frame. Flashing the frame doesn't add any additional benefit and just costs money. Otherwise, great video and glad to see you saved some money on your fixer!
Hi great video. I'm looking to install a front entry door and I'm noticing that some doors have a sill plate that's either flush with the interior flooring (wood, LVP, tile, etc.) or some that are below the flooring which is your case. When you ordered your door, what measurements did you use to measure your rough opening and determine the height of your threshold? Some manufacturers have taller or shorter thresholds so I'd like mine to be as flush with my interior flooring as possible to avoid a tripping hazard. After removing my threshold, the sill plate is flush with my LVP flooring so I'm not sure if I should remove the sill plate to take the rough opening measurement or measure from top of sill plate to bottom of my header. Also what did you use to transition from your threshold to floor for the finishing touch? Thanks!
@@AndrewThronImprovements Andrew; I had to watch the vid again 'cause I forgot the color! Glad I did as I missed that awesome closet door - the slider or barn door. Beautiful. I really am looking forward to the videos you planned for this summer. Thanks for the reply. Patrick
great video...would this work for the laundry door needs to be replace...i have to remove all the frame made out of wood sides....top and sides, how do i nail the wood to the concrete? THX.....
Hi, I replaced my front door watching this video and through some trial and error got the job done with my wife helping. Awesome tips and I used the low expansion foam instead of insulation. My issue I managed to work around was my door was almost exactly the height of the rough opening. I had to hammer it into place for it to work, but it did. Is there a way around this? The bottom of the rough opening is concrete and the top has metal bars which cannot be cut. I cannot get a shorter pre-hung door. It is 32" x 80".
Hello I have to replace mine, my boyfriend isn't handy at all so I will be doing this. What do I do if everything has shifted in old door and there is ALOT of space around the old door where I can see outside around the entire door. Thank you so much
You do not need a sill plate on concrete. The door can be placed directly on top of the concrete. Apply door sealant/adhesive on clean concrete and place door into opening. Caulk underneath door sill plate where it meets concrete.
This might be a long shot since the video was made a year ago but I have a question for you. I am trying to replace my front door since it is about 70-80 years old and its very drafty. How do you go about measuring the prehung door frame/mold without taking my door and existing fram apart?
I have had 2 handymen come and not be able to really finish the trim around the door. I have exposed wood on either side so it seems like we’re in the “reveal stage” and there were gaps around the door frame. Do you have any suggestions for I guess working backwards since the door is already installed?
Do prehung exterior doors typically have exterior brick molding attached? If so, can it be removed easily? I have ranch molding and not sure the dimensions are the same.
I've got an old house with an odd size jamb width. Since I'll have some wiggle room with a 4 1/2" jamb, should I position the new door flush with the exterior or interior?
Hmmm - I would say put it flush with the exterior since you will want to Seal the gaps from water. Might want to consult with a pro if it's really strange. Thanks for watching! Appreciate the support!
@@AndrewThronImprovements I wonder if I should put on jamb extensions to get me close to flush. I'm a bit confused on what to do with the storm door when it comes to the brick molding that the new door comes with. Do most folks take that off or alter it to get the storm door situated?
@@AndrewThronImprovements Wrong. Flush it with interior. You need to add jamb extensions to the exterior side. Flushing with exterior and then adding extenstion on the inside will cause the door to bind/not fully open.
