  • Diy repair heated seats. Replace burnt plug terminal. 2015 Ford Explorer and other fords and chev vehicles. MOTORCRAFT FORD PN# 3U2Z-14S411-ZMB full kit (around $70.00). Try to keep factory wire harness only replace what’s needed. If you can find pins for the plug or you have some left over from the motormaster kit - you can use Delco Remy plug 15326110...(around 6 dollars).
Everything worked but the heated seats. Pulled the plug on the module BU5T-14B663-AB and found burnt terminal, easy fix, minimal tools and can take less then an hour on your first try. 15 min the next time you do it.

Thank you! I was quoted $1000 for this fix. Thanks to your video I only had 3 hours and $19 into the repair. I couldn't get the melted plastic cover off, so I had to splice each wire.

Just happened to me. Ford Dealer was kind enough to tell me the part numbers. They wanted to replace the whole module and the whole connector. Quoted parts were $550, after labor $1100!!! Rockauto has those parts for $170 total. Very happy to know this is a $5 fix!

I replaced the connector this weekend on my 2015 Ford Mustang convertible and it worked! I bought the connector ($5 on Amazon) and the wire harness ($45 on Amazon) and followed exactly what you've outlined here and ALL SYSTEMS GO! The local dealership wanted $910 to replace the module and harness. I wasn't going to pay that for a car I use 4 months a year, but was willing to risk $50 to fix this...Hopefully it hold up....Awesome video!

I’m glad it worked out for you. There’s a great satisfaction fixing something yourself and saving a chunk of cash.

My local ford dealer said the same thing. I bet they would’ve just replaced the plug and charged me full price for a module they never replaced. I hate ford dealers so much. QuickLane mechs are like fresh out of tech school punks

Thanks Noel, that’s a great idea, if I ever have to get back under there I’ll make a video on how to clean that fan out. If you happen to make a video, feel free to tag it in the comment section.
      Thanks again!

Great Video Mark of all Trades.
I own a 2017 Ford F250 and smelled burning in the cabin while using driver side seat heater. I think that it was due to the fact that I left it on for too long. I have low back problems and heat is wonderful. I looked under passenger seat and sure enough, the ground terminal was burnt. I ordered the Ford plug with pigtail and heat shrink kit and installed it today. I was leery hooking up the "second ground" wire for fear of causing problems. I feel you are right about double grounding wires is better but before I go and connect the second wire to first ground, I would love to see the forum you mentioned you took the idea from?? If it is a true ground would running a direct ground to seat chasis cause a problem in anyone's opinion or would it short something out? I noticed the burnt corner black wire has a stripe on it which has me a little suspicious whether true ground or not. Anyone??

I’m glad the video helped…yeah it was a couple years ago since I made the video and saw that forum post, I can’t remember where I saw it. I hope it holds up for the life of the vehicle. This is so common, I can’t believe more vehicles don’t burn down. I posted this video thinking I might a couple people save some money…it has more views then I ever thought.

Awesome! I only had the opportunity to put it through 1 winter, then sold it…but worked great that winter.

I have a 2016 f150 and my issue is the exact same thing you showed but I am having trouble finding that plug from AC deco so I can try the same route you did. Do you mind sharing that part number by chance? I haven't had much luck finding that plug by itself without it being with a kit

I found it on Amazon, but you might be able to try Napa or autozone with that number. 15326110 was the number I used on Amazon. Let me know how it goes!

I had done this on my 2015 ford f150 and tied in a second ground to the first just like you did. Did great for a while now I noticed the connection burned again but this time in the first and second pin were the ground is. Any idea why this would happen and how to fix? I can get the connector again but I want it not to continue to burn out.

I’m not sure, I’m more of a back yard/try it yourself kind of mechanic. I do know it’s common for these buggers to burn out, and the next step would be to change the module (in my mind) but that thing can be pricey. If you do decide to change the module make sure to shop around for a good deal. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will also reply to this…

For anyone facing this issue in the future-- if it burned again, there's a good chance the original pin had a melted contact on the board and your new ground was carrying all of the voltage instead of sharing with the original. For a detailed PDF on how to complete this repair search for "Ford SCME Ground Wire Repair and Modification Rowe".

Any tips on getting the burnt connector separated from the module? I have been fighting with mine to the point I'm about to take a hammer to it. :). I don't want to damage the module though ...

Oh man that sucks- I hope you didn’t destroy it yet though you may have had no choice. I think I would try to douse it with a lubricant and leave it overnight. If that doesn’t work, I’d go in with a pair of pliers and start breaking that plug in pieces. Let me know how it goes

I finally got it apart with the help of a small flat screwdriver. Basically jammed it into the side until I could pry on it. Eventually it popped off, and the connector looked identical to yours. Installed new connector and heated and cooled seats work again. 🎉 The dealer wanted $1100 bucks to fix. New connector, module and 4 hours labour 😅. Cost me $70 and about 1.5 hours of my time.

@@xislander73 awesome! My favorite part about posting the video is to hear how much money people saved! I hope it holds up for as long as you have the vehicle and longer!

Any update if doing a double ground worked for you?

    • @Markofalltradesdyi
      @Markofalltradesdyi  2 года назад

I’ve sold the Explorer since the video. But, the first time replaced the plug, I used the single ground and it burnt out again shortly after I did it. At that point I was pretty confident in changing the plug so I made this video using the double ground. It did hold up for a winter before I sold the vehicle…I live in Canada and my wife pretty much uses the heated seat 6 months of the year - so it did get a pretty good trial run with the double ground.

Did you have to replace the module too?

    • @Markofalltradesdyi

In my case the module was still good, just had a melted burnt out plug. So far I haven’t had anybody comment with a burnt out module yet.
