Jack Dempsey was such a legend, the other two had their own spin on it but he's the only one that managed to land four perfect hooks in a row just by shifting his weight like that
Different eras of boxing. The way Jack did it wouldn't have worked in a more modern form of boxing. Rules changed, training changed, awareness of how to counter it went up. For a lot of boxers of his era walking into the ring against him is the first time they ever saw it. They had no idea what it was or how to counter it. Now there's frame by frame slowmos and breakdowns. Not even the way Tyson did it would work now at the high end, it's been analyzed to death.
that first clip of the Dempsey roll is so perfect, I've never been inspired to do a move like that from Jack. I will train and practice so much to revive that exact move and use it one day in the ring, he's a fantasy legend in my eyes.
Seems to be a decent move for people smaller in size for their weight class like Tyson. He was an infighter and that seemed like a great way to close gaps. Plus it worked really well with his whole peek a boo style.
Not so easy if the guy could be like second coming of Tyson but yes a professional boxer especially counterpunchers can do it, I mean it was referenced by Miyata of the reality of Dempsey role in modern era
Tyson might not be the n1 fighter of all time, but to our hearts he is. This man was a legend, and no "new legend" will ever take away his title. Him and Muhamed Ali are iconic fighters of the golden age
A legend. But I hold many in higher regard. Especially when it comes to tenacity and even just boxing skills in general. One of the best knockout artists though.
The good thing about the Dempsey roll is that you put all your body behind when you "fall" into the punch. The bad thing about the Dempsey roll is that you put all your body behind when you "fall into the punch. If you're fighting a great defensive boxer and you fail to connect every punch becomes increasingly taxing on your endurance and even your musles and ligaments suffer damages. For a great example of this the title fight between Takeshi Fuji and Nicolino Locce is a masterful (almos comical) example of all your wasted power comes back to you
Huh... Looking at this clip and watching Mr. Dempsey's particular part, it looks like a series of body shot hooks while moving his head back and forth in a low stance, using some damn good footwork to add extra power to his hooks. Seriously- look at his legs as he takes steps with each punch. It's like he's pushing his body with his legs every step to add more power- all while bobbing his head back and forth to make it harder to punch. Mr. Fuji's style is moving his head in a circle while waiting for his chance to get a deadly punch in. And then there's Mr. Tyson's style, who moves like a damn snake. Changing directions mid-roll and sending punches way off course, then sends the other guy flying as soon as he's tired out...
As much as I love Tyson's defense as the next guy, that did not look like the Demsey Roll. Hajime no Ippo may have showcased it with Tyson's head movement using the Peak-a-Boo style and the "Figure 8" motion, but its more offense than defense. The Dempsey Roll is basically a barrage of hooks/haymakers using the momentum of one punch to throw the next and repeating that consistently. Fuji showed a little of it but his opponent went down before he could show that aggressive style of the Dempsey Roll. Still this video was a great showcase to the move and I wish someone could use a more refined version of the technique in real life on a professional level like Ippo in the anime
You watch too much anime. Dempsey roll in real life is more on defense than offense. Swing your body from side to side while going forward until you get the opportunity to counter. It's not like you'll stay in one spot, have your opponent get frozen in shock looking at you and just waiting to be punched, just like in the anime LOL!!! Dempsey roll is easy to counter nowadays, If you throw wild punches with the same angles like how Ippo does, it makes you easier to read and to be punched. I love Hajime No Ippo (anime and manga) but I know that every style in the series is being exaggerated.
@@D__634 But when you Look at the infamous clip of Jack doing it, it's way more offensive. Hes barely rolling his head. His mostly just shifting and using the momentum of his head to go left right left.
@@reigns1902 I'm talking about the other guy who said the way the anime shown it is realistic. Anyway, the video is from when boxing isn't as improved like what it is now. That's why I said dempsey roll is easy to counter nowadays.
I don't think anyone familiar with Mike Tyson and his record would put the Iron part in quotes. It's pretty much a no-brainer to say for me, Mike Tyson is one of the top 10 greatest boxers of all time. Even with argument, being extremely strict, top 15 unquestionably in the worst worst case. If you need to qualify, say top 10 heavyweights of all time, I'll compromise and drop the pound for pound. I had a friend who was a Golden Gloves contender, he fought about 35 fights, maybe a few more before hanging it up. He said he woke up with headaches every morning after his fighting career. THat is depressing to contemplate, I really like the sport but it doesn't like me. It'd be a great way to stay in shape though.

That Tyson Dempsey roll has to be the most frightening thing EVER!
In terms of Dempsey roll:
Dempsey is a perfect creator
Tyson is a perfect executor
Dempsey roll is letting your opponent know your rhythm but troll them with a surprise hook or combo
Tyson is just inhumanly fast, he really trained hard to reach that level
The film crew had to edit out the jet engine sounds on Jack dempsey.
tyson is the perfect combination of instinct and technique, supernatural
Jack Dempsey > Mike Tyson
Bruh his left at the end was so fast it almost looked like just a tap at regular speed.😳
Even though the title says "In Real Life," some idiots still comment why Ippo's version wasn't included. No wonder anime fans get a bad rap.

Dempsey roll is what we call "unloading on the MF".
Peek-a-boo+Dempsey Roll, added with gazelle punch, liver blow, and some smash as a combo, not just hook, would be deadly.
It's unbelievable how many of those punches graze. Any one of those canons can make contact. First power shot that makes contact and it's done.
Tyson is unbelievable.. i watched it 20 times but dont know how he dodged those punches and punched him back
That Tyson 1 tap is INSANE. He was tanking the hits, too!
