Thrift gifts are the best ! My daughter received thrift Pyrex, one grand daughter received a vintage Coach ( she calls the C after her name ) And my grandson received a thrift multi tool knife (vintage & valuable ) In a few days we have encountered 1. a new HVAC system ( will help with resale ) 2. unexpected vet bill $850 3. broken windshield on truck at campsite (we suspect a new bb gun by neighbors ) But other than that, we are on a no spend recovery 😉 continued blessings from "Nanna" Wanda, Charleston SC
Some things I do. Bagels make good pizzas for kids, saltines with cheese or peanut butter. Home make cookies an bread. Jello an homemade pudding is great for snacks.
Thank you for watching! 💕 I finally braved my first loaf a couple days ago (that turned out pretty good) and I’m baking a couple more loaves this morning. 😊 The length of rise time vs. working with traditional yeast is what stresses me out. 😅
I loved everything about this video; especially your sense of humor 😊. I'll be starting a "low" spend challenge and if it works out to a no spend all the better. I currently have too many stressors and can't think about adding the no spend (thinking it would cause more stress.) I am implementing ways to handle the current stressors, so that should help. I'll watch again to take note of your points. Thank you!
Do what works to make it work. ☺️ I think challenges like this should be fun (to an extent) and not miserable! Good call implementing ways to keep your stress level as low as possible. I hope the month is smooth sailing. 💕 Thanks for watching!!
I’m in for a “low spend”, my income dropped drastically due to a postal strike here in Canada, so we really need to keep spending as low as possible in January!
We’re doing a low spend month to! Ive already pre planned 20 meals based on what we have, and not buying unnecessary things. We’re just working hard each month to get student loans paid off by next December.
I love that you make your own bread!!! Would love to see a video of you girding your loins and going for the sourdough. I have always wanted to try my hand at it. I am kinda forced into a low o spend for Jan as I moved the middle of this month. It was unexpected so hurt the budget.
I should have recorded it but I finally went for it the other day and made a pretty soggy, but halfway decent loaf. 😅 There are just so many more moving parts with sourdough vs. yeast bread. 😵 Thank you for watching!! I hope the rest of your month goes smooth and you get settled into your new place. 💕
Love that you’re doing this again. I feel like it’s giving me the motivation to give it a go. I think second hand gifts are totally fine as long as they are clean… We had someone give us a used push toy for my son’s birthday…but it was very dirty…it looked like it had been regularly used outside. 😬 Obviously I didn’t say anything but I was like…really…now I have to clean this 😮💨 because toddler mom’s do not need one more thing to clean 😂
DO IT! Even try it for a week and you may find yourself addicted. 🤣 Or wait until February (it's a short month) 😉 Oh goodness, yes please clean the things first people. 😭 Especially if it's a "gift".
@ I’m real tempted girl! I might for February…getting my husband on board might be rough…I could always do a no spend for just myself…but that feels weird… 😂
A low spend January is definitely a need for me too. I’m definitely needing groceries (went on a trip and emptied the fridge before I left) but besides that it’s a no spend. A thought on gifts I’m considering is to thrift for them this year. I put together a basket for a friend that was sick and she loved that it was thrifted. Love this challenge 👍 I watch your videos every week. Thanks for the great content 😊
A trip is always a great way to be forced to deal with the contents of a fridge. 😅 I love hearing more and more people out there that don’t mind thrifted gifts and that was such a thoughtful thing to do for your sick friend. 💕 Thank you so much for watching!! I hope your low spend January is a huge success! 😁
Yesss, I’ve already taken inventory of our freezes! Time to mealplan. I’ve also planned our new years eve dinner with stuff we already have at home, we only had to buy 2 things. Really proud of that! Do you really need to mealplan? One thing we tried out over the summer were to shop for our favourite meals every month and that really worked well for us. We did’t plan x for x day, more like: we need four meals this week, what does everyone like. More like Lisa at Farmhouse on Boone does it. Me and my daughter have decluttered our wardrobes. We have some spaces to declutter aka free entertainment 😅 I don’t really have any rules but I’m thinking I can prep by baking some more bread now when I’m on holiday. I want my husband and kids to pack snacks or meals when they stay in town after work/ school to workout. They could pack something and eat at my husbands work instead of buying a meal twice a week. Ok, yes, I’m writing a novella here 😂 but! Our discarded clothes are going to a friend of mine, we all love ”free second hand” and tom share stuff we no longer need. And it so much fun when we get to go through someone elses old stuff!
Yay for your new years eve dinner!!! I like your idea of shopping for your favorite meals each month. I need to figure out how to do that but my style of cooking is very much "on a whim" so a lot of things I make are hard to replicate and honestly I forget what I've done in the past half the time haha. I really should write stuff down... especially when the kids like it! 😅 Decluttering is the ultimate free entertainment! I plan on doing A LOT of that over the next few months. Baking bread in advance is a great idea. I was just watching a video where Lisa from Farmhouse on Boone whipped up all her bread for the week in one day. She really is amazing. I hope your plan for your family to pack snacks/meals works out! 😊 Yay for second hand. There really is nothing like going on a treasure hunt through someone's things they no longer use. I wish I still got hand me downs from my cousins. 🤣 Thank you so much for watching and your novella. 😉 I hope you have a wonderful month (and enjoy the rest of your holiday)! 💕
I found what helped me with the "oh poop, I don't have any meat thawed" issue, was to keep a bin of meat in the fridge. We usually keep 2-3 days of meat in there so it eliminated that part and only had to deal with the "I don't want to cook" feeling ;-).
The meat bin really is a great system! I had been in the habit of doing that between our last no spend challenge in september and thanksgiving. But the post thanksgiving week of having what felt like 600lbs of turkey and other leftovers in my fridge really threw a wrench in my routine. Thank you for watching reminding me that method exists. 😅💕
Iv been really trying to figure low spend or frugality or no spending and two things keep happening I tend to start to focus on buying more food than I did before but it’s definitely better quality and i stopped buying snacks and baked more so I felt like I was spending in a better way. I also find it really really hard to stop thinking about buying things ! Like today all I’ve thought about is buying new pans 😂😂 our pans are old and the non stick is not not stick anymore but they are functional but honestly my brain finds this part of frugality really hard to stop thinking
I think it's going to be a wonderful month. 😊 And yes you did tell me! I don't mind being told again though, because I'm impressed and amazed all over again!! 😄
Three cheers for second hand gifts!
Love this! Thank you :). And go for the sourdough loaf! It gets much less intimidating once you do it a couple of times :)
I've been extremely frugal for the past few years while also being on a decluttering journey so I guess you could say I'm a bit of a minimalist!
I want to be like you when I grow up. 😅💕

What wonderful gifts! Especially the Pyrex. 😉
Ahhh, the joys of being an adult. 😵💫
I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday. 💕💕💕
P.S. I’m currently reading a novel based in Charleston and desperately want to visit and explore the history. 😍

Turkey’s are on sale half off right now. It makes a good cheap meal for a few days. I got a couple. Just get created with the meat.
