Florida-based band Shinedown has gained a strong following among rock listeners. The group performs an acoustic version of their song, "Second Chance" at the Second Cup Café.
Shinedown. By far the best band I've ever seen in concert and I've had plenty comparisons. This isn't their best performance by any means, but even God took Sunday off.
I absolutely love Shinedown, I am stoked i just got tickets for a show july 1st it's going to be epic definitely one of the most incredible modern rock bands
I don't know what people are talking about, Eric Bass and Zach Myers are the best back-up singers ever! If you don't believe me look up Shinedowns cover of Times Like These!
@MrDJSanjay don't criticize the back-up singers. trust me, I'm in a band and the back-up singers are always a big help when performing. it doesn't matter how good of a singer you are, back-up singers help you stay on key and give you a bit of harmony. trust me, it makes the overall song sound much better and fuller than one person singing.
His voice is still there. Trust me. Artists always do songs differently when they're acoustic. Listen to most any song that is done acoustically and then listen to the original. If it was the same vocally, it just really wouldn't matter if it was acoustic or not. I like how he changed it. But, then again, I am a vocalist and true fan of Shinedown...
@AshFlash22 The drummer is from Florida. The lead singer and him are the only 2 original members left in the band. But, the lead singer went to florida, to make the band :) The lead singer and guitarist are from tennesee. Bassist from SC :)
I just went to their show last Sat. and even though there was only a few hundred people they played and sang their hearts out. It was great! They did play it more like the album version so it was more what you expect from them, but the harmony on this version isn't bad either.
@backflipbrandon but there are ways around that. watch any singer on stage when they're singing live; when they hit the higher or louder notes, they move away from the mic. they'll either back off completely or just project in another direction. so that can't be the issue.
@selahSCOUTairsoft No. Jasin was from 2001-2008 and Brad was from 2001-2006. Zach has been there 2004-Now and Eric has been there since 2006-Now. Eric (left) and Zach (right) haven't been there since the beginning.
the backups are phenominal, u guys have no taste, this is the best acoustic they have done yet, i love shinedown, and would love to see an acoustic concert, those of u who dislike this video, that's your problem, don't tell everyone else that it sucks, keep it to yerself..
@fightliferockin its because he projects insanely well, so singing the song the way he regularly does would overpower the acoustic guitars. im guessing you mainly mean during the main hooks, the higher notes, would completly overpower the acoustic guitars and the levels would be off. however i dont know if you like In Flames, but listen to "Take This Life" and then the acoustic version. you\ll get what im saying.
Can't deny that the chorus medley of this song recorded is FANTASTIC. But lately I've started to get annoyed with bands that drastically change the vocal medleys of their popular songs...why does this happen? Because they don't train their voice over an extended period of time. Can Shinedown achieve this with Second Chance over a 3 year period (hypothetically speaking)? I really think so...and I understand that we lose vocal strength as we get older...nevertheless, awesome vocal harmonies...
@MicaSpes Its an accoustic ersion, he has to try to tone it down, or it wouldnt sound right. Also, Zach, guitarists, who normally sings back up, was sick, so the bassists, eric, had to try to sing it for him :)
@Drumkingza Pushing them far longer?? zach's been doin this since he was 13.. He was homeschool, been touring since he was 14, with different bands. think he's been doin this long enough on his own ;)
@DDpowerfunk Not his guitar player singing, It's his bassist ;) and he can actually seing very well now. (: He sounded like a girl there for awhile, haha. But the actual guitar player, Zach, has an amazing voice. However, he isnt singing here :)
@JBMusicONLINE. Perhaps... but ive seen them perform other acoustic versions of this same song, an those were alot better. This still isnt a bad performance... just not quite as good as some of the others. And i feel like the guy on the left is kinda yelling the chorus right into the microphone.
Not saying anything that hasn't already been said... but Brett tweaks a lot of the songs to the point of unrecognition a lot of times when he sings them accoustic. I mean, i absolutely love it when artists change up their songs a little bit when they sing them live...but done as often and as much as Brett makes me wonder how he really does sound hitting the real notes live. Oh, and back up vocals....umm....yeah. Down boy.
@theWHITEGUY100 actually I saw Shinedown a few months ago live and he can hit every note live that he hits on the records, he sounded way better at the concert than on this vid, i mean you cant look at one video and say he's just a studio musician, maybe he just had a bad day or somethin wrong with his throat that day. go to a live concert and then come back and you'll change your opinion
This video proves that nobody in this band but Brent should sing. I feel bad for the people seeing Shinedown for the first time in this video. Check out more vids. This is a poor representation of a truly excellent band.
i mean, i've heard him hit some high notes live... but they usually DO sound really strained. And there's always somebody in the background of all of his randitions actually SINGING the main melody. I'm sorry, but it really does make me question him... as much as i do like him. But i will take a listen to that song.
zacks harmony was on... eric's mic was up too much thats why it sounds so pushed.. and i cant recall every hearing brent do falsetto.. for the most part he keeps his voice true...
Look up the vid without a mic, this mic is is running through an equalizer, destroying the real sound. He sounds a 100 times better without a mic, doing it stripped and old fasioned.
@ribbs06 hahaha. Sweetie, I love Jasin, buuut he just doesnt belong in Shinedown. Jasin is in a NEW band now, and Shinedown is where it should be. So stop hating on them for not having him in the band anymore. Jasin has moved on, Shinedown has moved on, and so should you. (:
@gmathews1234 Dude...it´s an acoustic version...means stripped down, both instrumental and vocally. Also the back up singing is good, but not to an ear, that is untrained itself. Take it from someone who knows. Still, I this is not the best acoustic version I´ve heard of this song...
singing like this takes a lot out of you, i can see where your voice could really be strained, especially early in the morning. Wasnt his best but it was damn good! playing "live" rarely sounds like a studio recording...most people who have played in bands understand that...
Eric and Zach are better than Jasin and Brad!!!!!! I loved them but Zach and Eric can and WILL take Shinedown to a new level that they have yet to reach
Brent's voice is a gift from god. It gives me chills when I hear him sing. Long live Shinedown!!
Love this version. Brent Smith is an angel. That voice is Heaven.
15 dislikes. What's about to dislike about this band? They are the definition of talent. This guys will continue THE generation of awesome rock music.
God! They are freakin awesome! Love them, cant wait to see them again!
Shinedown. By far the best band I've ever seen in concert and I've had plenty comparisons. This isn't their best performance by any means, but even God took Sunday off.
I like how even the guitarists can sing well. Great band right there.
I absolutely love Shinedown, I am stoked i just got tickets for a show july 1st it's going to be epic
definitely one of the most incredible modern rock bands
I don't know what people are talking about, Eric Bass and Zach Myers are the best back-up singers ever! If you don't believe me look up Shinedowns cover of Times Like These!
I don't see why the comments are saying he's only good in studio. I think he's amazing acoustic, and live, as I have seen him live and it is amazing.
shinedown rocks no matter what they do or how they do it
shinedown is like the best ever, dont be hatin!
I totally agree with you. Everyone gives them so much hate, but I think Eric's high-pitched backup vocals really compliment Brent's voice.
Goosebumps. Shinedown favorite band of all time.
excellent acoustic version. Great vocal melody, backup vocals and of course guitar work!!!
They're a awesome, and I'm in love with Brents son, who saved him from his vanity :)
my old choir teacher used to always tell us to open our mouths wider and sing louder. he does it like a pro!
didnt know this song but now love it so much !!!!!!!
Shinedown RULE. End of dispute if ever there was one.
shinedown has true talent that has a rannge and god knows they know real life
@MrDJSanjay don't criticize the back-up singers. trust me, I'm in a band and the back-up singers are always a big help when performing. it doesn't matter how good of a singer you are, back-up singers help you stay on key and give you a bit of harmony. trust me, it makes the overall song sound much better and fuller than one person singing.

Awesome song!! Good live too!!
Brent is a really cool dude. He seems really modest and down to earth.
this song inspired me to pursue my dream of becoming a world famous foot model
SO GOOD!!
That is one tough song to do day after day, you have to give Brent a huge thumbs up. I can hear the strain but its still kick ass!
@AshFlash22 The drummer is from Florida. The lead singer and him are the only 2 original members left in the band. But, the lead singer went to florida, to make the band :)
The lead singer and guitarist are from tennesee. Bassist from SC :)

cmon brent ive listened to ALL ur songs u gotta wail on it man u have a great voice and i know ur holdin back on this
I love their acoustic stuff!!
I like this acoustic version! Pretty nice!
He is a great father!
love it....good job shinedown.....
Amazing
They sound really good unplugged
im sorry to correct you all but its "she waved" if you look at the lyrics on the album its what it says
SUPERB !!!!!
@AshFlash22 Only the lead singer is from Knoxville, :) Guitarists from Memphis. Bassists from Charleston, SC, and drummer from Jacksonville, FL :)
i agree completely.
great performance :O:D
i'm gonna see them on pinkpop 2009 ^^
@backflipbrandon
but there are ways around that. watch any singer on stage when they're singing live; when they hit the higher or louder notes, they move away from the mic. they'll either back off completely or just project in another direction. so that can't be the issue.
good choice
They're playing Hilton Head Island May 5th at Shorline Ballroom...
Thanks
@selahSCOUTairsoft No. Jasin was from 2001-2008 and Brad was from 2001-2006. Zach has been there 2004-Now and Eric has been there since 2006-Now. Eric (left) and Zach (right) haven't been there since the beginning.
ok, barry, and the two origional instrumentalists were from florida, brent is from tennisee
@Tylerw025 It's not that he half assed it. I think he toned it down a lot because it was an acoustic version of it.
@fightliferockin it's called "mic work", but who wants to play exactly the same version every single time you perform the same song?
Love it!!! :D
i want his glasses!
and his voice:P
his glasses and voice!
backup singers?????? you mean the band?? they saound awesome!!!
the backups are phenominal, u guys have no taste, this is the best acoustic they have done yet, i love shinedown, and would love to see an acoustic concert, those of u who dislike this video, that's your problem, don't tell everyone else that it sucks, keep it to yerself..
you lucky rascal. I'd love the chance to talk to him. How did you manage that?
@fightliferockin its because he projects insanely well, so singing the song the way he regularly does would overpower the acoustic guitars. im guessing you mainly mean during the main hooks, the higher notes, would completly overpower the acoustic guitars and the levels would be off. however i dont know if you like In Flames, but listen to "Take This Life" and then the acoustic version. you\ll get what im saying.

@MicaSpes When they were in Germany, they were great :)
@MicaSpes Its an accoustic ersion, he has to try to tone it down, or it wouldnt sound right. Also, Zach, guitarists, who normally sings back up, was sick, so the bassists, eric, had to try to sing it for him :)
BRENT IS HOLDING BACK DUE TO THE ACOUSTIC VERSION.
WHEN HE 'WHALES' HS IS BEST......
!!!
@duncanb48 but.. you hear him before?! lives.. acoustics.. its not the same.. i just.. miss those voice..
whos your first?
hey its ok to have a backing singer with harmonies. especially if your backing singer is eric bass
JetMonkey17
I get your point about nick. But really, there aren't many singers who can sound any good when singing next to brent smith :)
@Drumkingza Pushing them far longer?? zach's been doin this since he was 13.. He was homeschool, been touring since he was 14, with different bands. think he's been doin this long enough on his own ;)
Idiots... obviously he had been singing a lot and his vocal chords were worn out... props to him for going on tv and performing.
@DDpowerfunk Not his guitar player singing, It's his bassist ;) and he can actually seing very well now. (: He sounded like a girl there for awhile, haha. But the actual guitar player, Zach, has an amazing voice. However, he isnt singing here :)

Oh, and back up vocals....umm....yeah. Down boy.
he sucks live...?
are we watching the same video? because in the one I'm watching his vocals sound beautiful :D
same here
I totally don't disagree with you guys, backup vocals are great, just different, but who wants to play same version all the time.
@hotdream101 ;) thank you hunny.
@MicaSpes seriously? Brent is amazing live IMO.
This video proves that nobody in this band but Brent should sing. I feel bad for the people seeing Shinedown for the first time in this video. Check out more vids. This is a poor representation of a truly excellent band.
fuck brent smith has an amazing voice, sounds amazing liveeee :D♥
He doesn't suck.He sounded great to me.Zebrina
I think the mic levels were off.
oh i really wish he woulda cut loose with this.. u cant tell he just wants to sing and not hold back
@coffman07 They dont "let" him. they TELL HIM TOO. and he's actually gotten a lot better ;)
i mean, i've heard him hit some high notes live... but they usually DO sound really strained. And there's always somebody in the background of all of his randitions actually SINGING the main melody. I'm sorry, but it really does make me question him... as much as i do like him.

@dejavu3552 yea i know man but thats was with Jasin (their old guita player) if u didnt know these dudes r a bunch of posers in my opnion
Thumbs up if u think back up singing guitarists shud have their mics muted.
Look up the vid without a mic, this mic is is running through an equalizer, destroying the real sound. He sounds a 100 times better without a mic, doing it stripped and old fasioned.
@fightliferockin hahah.. Not to be mean, but I love how you act like you know what your talking about here. :))) by the way, Its BRENT. :)
You eyes may be open open wide but we cant see behind the glasses
its "she waved"
@ribbs06 hahaha. Sweetie, I love Jasin, buuut he just doesnt belong in Shinedown. Jasin is in a NEW band now, and Shinedown is where it should be. So stop hating on them for not having him in the band anymore. Jasin has moved on, Shinedown has moved on, and so should you. (:
I say no back up vocals please, but otherwise awesome as always
in other words we can see through the glassess
Good but you can sure tell how they make him sound better on the CD.
@gmathews1234 Dude...it´s an acoustic version...means stripped down, both instrumental and vocally. Also the back up singing is good, but not to an ear, that is untrained itself. Take it from someone who knows. Still, I this is not the best acoustic version I´ve heard of this song...

it even sounds more like " she waved "
OMG ist das geil xDxDxDXDDDDDDDDDD
is it ironic that the first words of the song are "My eyes ar open wide" yet he has sunglasses on?
@reinventmadness That's a nice name.
Eric and Zach are better than Jasin and Brad!!!!!!
I loved them but Zach and Eric can and WILL take Shinedown to a new level that they have yet to reach
@1JjOoEe1 i know what you mean, they are better plugged in,
