Honestly, this moved me, I lost a lot of people, due to lack of support from family members and 🥹 not everyone learns from their mistakes! I LOVED THE INTERVIEW! #ShinedownAlways ❤👏🏻
The fact he sings in a live mic with no effects is insane. Most vocalist don't do this and if they do, it doesn't sound even close to the original recording.
Thank you for sharing your darkness to help us find the light again. No ones can lead us back except those who are honest about their darkness. Thank you for sharing your hell with us so very much. God bless you and I’m sorry you had to go through it too. Thank you Zack for watching after him.
In my most humble heart. This is 100% the best episode of any podcast I have ever watched. My eyes are still wet and my heart is happy. THANK YOU Bert.....
I lost my older brother September 19th of last year. He absolutely loved Shinedown, I haven't been able to listen to them since he passed. This was the best reintroduction I could have ever asked for. Laughing through the tears. Thank you
The first time the camera cuts to Bert after they started playing Second Chance. I'm still crying with you Bert, you really hit the nail on the head how you explained why you were so emotional during the song. This was the best most real moment I've ever seen on any podcast. That was the moment I think you actually realized you have made it in life Bert, it doesn't get much better than that. Having Shinedown play a private concert for you with Halston actually getting to play with his favorite band and inspiration. Congratulations Bert.
Crying Bert in this situation is the most relatable session of weeping I have ever experienced watching him. This is one of the most captivating couple hours I have watched in podcasting recently. Thank you all for sharing that sick experience! 🤙
Music has that visceral effect on me as well. My wife and her family were so big into karaoke and there is absolutely no way I could ever do it because I’m terrible but music hits me on a different level than most people. I’m glad to see Bert with the honesty. We saw SHINEDOWN Friday night and it was absolutely mind blowing. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Again
Never clicked on a video so fast, I grew up listening to Shinedown and seen them live a few years back, one of the best bands to ever do it man, genuinely. . .
I've always loved music and always wanted to be around it but was always to afraid that I would not be able to be good enough to perform stuff of what I thought people deserved to get, because I always listened to music different than what my friends and people in my family did it took me a long time to just realize that's what I truly want to do, but I love all music I have a Playlist of like 7,500 songs and that's all genre's stuff I was listening to all the way back to 3yrs old.
dudeee, this definitely one of the best Bertcast episodes.. and especially when you guys play music together and ask Halston to join in, it must be an awesome experience for him
My mom died 2 years ago. When they started playing simple man, I wept more than I have in a while. That's the song I danced with her to at my wedding. Thank you Bert and Shinedown for all you do. You're helping this broken fan heal in ways you don't know.
Shinedown has and will always be my Favorite band❤ This Band has gotten me through so much I didn’t think I could live through. I’ve seen them 2 times and hopefully can see them play again in PA with my daughter for her first concert. I absolutely Love Shinedown and appreciate everything they have done for everyone including myself ❤️❤️❤️
Brent, I will never forget an evening in Honolulu at the Pipeline club many years ago. Your dad asked my little girl to come up front in the VIP balcony and sit on the arm of the couch he was sitting on so she could have a front row seat to her favorite band. Such a class move. Keep Rockin!
I worked at a GNC in a mall in a state that most people don’t go to. Most unlikely place to run into celebrities but we got quite a few when they’d come through town. First time I met someone from Shinedown was Brent Smith. I was flipping out, kept my composure though and helped him out as I would anyone else, I had to bring it up during checking him out and sure enough it was him, he gave me and anyone else working in the store tickets to the show +1 that they were doing the next night to come as Shinedown’s guest, just had to pick em up at willcall. I went, they were opening up for Nickleback along with Breaking Benjamin. Was a great concert. He was the coolest dude. Then years later , same store. I was helping out a guy and got to talking to him and asked what he did for a living and he said he was a drummer, my reply was “oh that’s cool, are you guys big or how’s that going?” Lmao. He was like “I play in a band called Shinedown”. I was like “are you kidding me you guys are like one of my favorite bands!” . I felt so dumb I didn’t recognize him and said so and he was like “most people don’t recognize the drummer”. He laughed it off and I told him about Brent coming in and how I went as their guest etc. He asked if I’d really like to see them put on a show because they didn’t get much of a chance at that one. Obviously my reply was “I’d love to”. They were headlining XFest. So I got to go again +1 as their guest and see them at XFest. Shinedown’s members are truly genuine nice people and these stories I just told y’all are treasured memories. Thank you Shinedown for making a nobody feel important and have a chance to do something I never would’ve had a chance to do without them.
I have been going through some shit and today has been a rough one. I have not felt myself at all today and like im stuck in someone elses body looking in. Then it pops up that Bert is premiering a podcast with Shinedown.... this is literally exactly what I needed!! I am sitting on my deck listening to this with bowl packed well Bert has a beer and listing to this beautiful podcast, bawling my eyes out. This is truly what I needed! Thank you Bert for giving me this release, what you do does matter and it does help people! Thank you Brent & Zach for all the beautiful music and this amazing acoustic set! Much love to you all! ❤
Holy shit...this gave me the best of chills. I really liked Shinedown before but they just made me love Shinedown. You guys aren't just great artists, you're great humans. Thank you gentlemen. 🤘🏻🇺🇲
The lyrics and energy behind that song “second chance” really does pull at the heartstrings. Im with Bert everytime i hear that song it just brings the emotions out, along with many other songs Shinedown does. Great episode!
Brent Smith sounds like this without auto-tune. I've seen them in concert and it is rare that what you hear on an album is what they sound like in person. Guy has an incredible voice!
@shinedown has been my motivation and inspiration for over 15 years. They've saved me from suicide many times. But as a recovering addict, this is the best interview I have ever seen. I love the real, raw stories that are so relatable because in reality, us addicts really do sit around our meetings laughing about our stories like that lol. Thank you for this ❤️🙏🏻
When I saw this posted I couldn’t wait to find a couple hours to watch. Shinedown came out to give a bunch of rowdy Marines a break from the reality of the Iraq war and played a show for us in 2006. Some say they support the troops, Shinedown was there for the troops when it mattered most, and I will be forever grateful to them.

I have been a fan of Shinedown since the end of 2003, and I haven't come across any other band like them. None of the songs sound the same, even with the old members/new old member that were in the band. Shinedown and their music showed me how to cope with anything and everything that has come my way positive or negative. They showed me that you don't need to make music complicated in order for people to enjoy it! What matters is connecting with the message of the song that we all will go or gone through as a human. Bert this means a lot to the Shinedown fanbase! Not trying to speak for anyone else
Truly some of the best across any genre, I don't think I've had a Playlist without atleast 15 songs on it now days my Playlist are whole discographies.

This was the most humblest and cool interview I have seen!! Laid back and not staged. Love the candidness and raw emotion from everyone. And the singing was fucking amazing and top notch. One of my favourite videos was Simple Man.
I could sit on a couch and listen to Zach play guitar and Brent sing until I die. This is all I want ❤love you guys. You have no idea what you do for me just by doing what you love
Bert!! What any man would give to sit on that couch in front of them and watch simple man up that close would blow your mind! It is insane!!! I acted like I was on the couch! I join you in tears brotha ❤
I have been listening to shinedown for a VERY long time. It wasn't until covid and Brent started doing more podcasts and more intimate interviews that really dug deep into their songs and explained them and their meanings and made it very clear on why they hit me the way they do. This was by far my favorite interview ever. Thousands of people cried along with you guys. I cant wait until i get to see your next concert!
Berts producer mentions a song he made at the end, heres the name for anyone wanting to give it a listen: "Let Me Be Lonely | Official Lyric Video | Halston Ray"
Wow this podcast made my month Bert , Shinedown has been a huge part of my life. Never listened to them until I was in an airport getting ready to go overseas for my first tour in Iraq and there was a music stand that had some different CDs so I grabbed a few and their album the sound of madness was one of them, coincidentally theirs was the first one I put in the Walkman and it didn’t leave there for months , I just listened to it over and over. From then on every time I needed a pick me up from a bad day on mission I’d just put my headphones in and tune out all of the noise and ringing in my ears. After that I bought every previous and every future album of theirs. True inspirational music and great down to earth dudes. Thank you guys!
One of the best pods I've ever watched. Well done, Bert. Shinedown is one of the best bands, especially live. I've seen them live 4 times in the last 5 years or so. They're phenomenal and never put on a bad show. Thank you Bert & Shinedown!🤘🖤
Watched this over my lunch hour, THANK YOU ... the tears came easily, and I sang along with my MOM and DAD in mind, Shinedown has been to Calgary many times, been to all the shows.. Bert your the best.. Stay Gold all of you!!
I've worked my whole life away, never been to a concert of any type, always been able to relate to shinedowns music. Saved me a few times from really dark times. Hands down my favorite band. Extreme respect.
Hands down my favorite episode!!!! Bert I have been a fan of you since I lost my dad over 11 yrs ago and I will forever be a fan!!!! Love and respect you more than you will ever know!!!!
Shinedown had come in and our of my life since I was 13. Whenever I'm going through it I'll be scrolling on youtube just trying to keep on going. First was Bully I screamed that deep in the woods behind my neighborhood.
Bert, Thank you! This was fantastic and I could watch this a thousand times. Beyond stoked about this and hearing them play in that setting needs to be a regular thing (it sounded great!). Please, please, please do more shows like this. Music, emotion, connection, and all of it needs to be talked about more. Love everything you do,
Saw Shinedown in Tulsa several years back (come back!) and left blown away by their musicianship. I'm more blown away by their humanity. This was such a great and heartfelt interview.
Shinedown covering BM is the greatest thing I have ever witnessed on the internet! Amazing to know that one of my favorite bands ever, are fans of Shannon's work. R.I.P. Shannon Hoon
Whoa. When I clicked on this I had no idea I would end up sitting here crying. Like, my eyes are puffy and everything. Music is the sonic manifestation of emotion. So powerful.
OMG!!! I knew who this band was, never really heard them like I did today! No musician has ever done anything remotely as impressive as that. Jesus thank you
If you liked this, please check out Smith & Meyer, vol 1 and 2 it's the acoustic duo they do on the side, it's amazing. They do a blend of original music and covers - Brent could sing the phone book and call out every name like he was calling to their owner
thanks for this , and thanks to brent for getting himself clean/sober and making the most fucking awesome music there is today! have seen them countless times here in Baltimore,Md shinedown my fave group ever!
I can't say enough about shinedown. They are a gift from God, the universe, or whoever is in charge. Bret has detailed my life. I remember the battleships. I remember hiding them. I also remember finding them months later. Usually when I had quit. I find 10 battleships on top of a cabinet or something. Lol. But for some reason, I survived it. The back injuries continued, but somehow, I survived. The words, the lyrics, in shinedowns songs hit so damn hard that I listen even though it makes me cry. You can't write these lyrics without suffering this life. I listen to these songs less now, because the healing has started, but without the percieved understanding, that somebody else has been there, I don't think I would be here.
This is hands down my favorite episode of Bertcast ever, saying just to be a fly on the wall there is an understatement. Shinedown's music was there for me during some of my darkest days of addiction.
Can we can cut and just make a video of them singing these songs. I could listen to it all day long. Dream come true there! I wouldn’t be able to stop crying. The songs are so relatable and I think gets to everyone’s heart
So excited to see these 2 on your podcast….. I have seen Shinedown many times live. Brent usually gives a pretty heartfelt speech about how they thankful to the fans…. He does a great job including all. This has been an awesome podcast!!!
Day 1...love everything that you brought to our generation, born 1984! My 4 yo, autistic son rocks out with me every time I put you on. What you've all done is significant and will exist through the generations❤ Thank you for giving up the fear and just releasing yourself upon the world. You'll live within me and my boys who love you.
This the best Bertcast ever! Everyone was so cool the entire time. And the guys having no objections what so ever to playing a few songs was so down to earth. I love 2nd chance and hearing the parent story was deeply moving! THIS WAS AWESOME!
@shinedown, Brent, so glad you got sober and well. Thank you for your honesty regarding the addictions. Your story, your recovery and your music touches the soul and inspires so many at so many levels. Your music has journeyed through so many seasons with my family. Looking forward to more amazing music!!
Been fan since the beginning! The sound of Brent’s voice just takes me to a special place ! Always takes Away the demons as well ! Forever will love you guys !! I am Sloapie !! Thank you Mr Smith and the band !!
I love Bert and Shinedown, love when two things I love come together for more goodness and greatness in this world. The appreciation for life, support for others, and support for our own selves is beautiful. Then get great music to boot, this made my day. Thank you Bert, Bert's Crew, the YMH group, and of course Shinedown for all the music that has touched my soul in so many ways. Peace and Love to everyone out in the world!
I Absolutely LOVE & ADORE Shinedown. Brent Has the Best+Greatest Voice! Great Music with REAL TRUE Meaningful lyrics. I've never heard a Shinedown song that I Didn't like/Love. I got to see them play in 2012 in Pennsylvania. I had just gotten help for my addiction a few months before seeing them perform. I'm still clean today. A lot of their songs have helped me get through many different crap times. I live in West Virginia & we have the highest # of overdose deaths.
I still remember getting a pedicure egg for your feet to shave down OC 80’s. Those and opanas. Then it went to Roxy 30’s and then it graduated to coke and dilaudid. Then I found Buprenorphine. I’ve been on it and off of everything else for 6 1/2 years.
Legends Your music has been there for me at some of my most emotional and difficult times in my 26 years of life. My mom gave me a cd of Sound of Madness when I was 11 it was the first cd I ever owned. She died from alcoholism last year. She would always sing simple man to me, your music will forever be powerful and in my heart. Thank yall from the bottom of my heart for those memories.
Crow and the butterfly was also me and a special person in my life’s song, we’ve both battled and still battling addiction. so many memories associated with your music. I remember being at my lowest listening to 45 and it made me feel that I was not alone. Thank yall
I could not stop watching this extensively long pod. Best ever interview with passionate serenade at the end. We all cried together! Love Brent and Zach and all of @Shinedown for all the obvious reason. Now a new fan of Bert❤
I’m not sure if he is the best frontman ever, but in my opinion has the best voice in modern hard rock. Sound of Madness to me is the best post 2000 hard rock album and it’s not even close for me
@@agitatedaligator5340 yeah best ever may be a stretch but I think he’s definitely up towards the top. He’s for sure tops in my opinion of the last 20 years or so
100%. Greatest of all time. More number one hits than any other band. The studio performance don’t even come close to the live shows. Brent is a master!
that was so awesome, 2 1/2 hours and i didnt want it to end. Ive known who @shinedown was for years and known a few of the songs, but last year i went to see them at the Pavilion here in Conroe/Houston Texas and they absolutely blew me away. One of the best shows ive been to.
An honor and a privilege Bert!!! THANK YOU for having us on your podcast. We had a BLAST. Let's hang again soon! 🤘

To sit in a room with shinedown and just have a personal concert is what heaven will be like for me.

Good for Halston! I know he's a big rock fan and performer himself. Known him 20ish years
Berts producer mentions a song he made at the end, heres the name for anyone wanting to give it a listen: "Let Me Be Lonely | Official Lyric Video | Halston Ray"
Fuck! Bert you are killing it man. Cheech and Chong on something’s burning and now a podcast with fucking Shinedown!!!? You’re the man dude.
Yeah next have ozzy so col. I cry when I laugh too.
This is the coolest thing to ever happen to a podcast!!! Love these guys
I've worked my whole life away, never been to a concert of any type, always been able to relate to shinedowns music. Saved me a few times from really dark times. Hands down my favorite band. Extreme respect.
I am grown ass man in fucking tears right now... I paused and poured a drink at noon... Unreal! God that felt good!
Fuckin love Brent for letting Halston rock it man. That mustve felt awesome for him. Also, LOVE U ZACH
Now that was a badass podcast!
I have cried this entire pod cast “Thanks” for opening up and everyone letting the tears flow. #Shinedown4Life
One of my favorite bands who helped me through my darkest days. Thank you so much for this. ❤
Love everything you do,
Say what you want about Bert, but this is one of the best podcast episodes ive ever seen. Absolutely incredible live performance.
Saw Shinedown in Tulsa several years back (come back!) and left blown away by their musicianship. I'm more blown away by their humanity. This was such a great and heartfelt interview.
Never missed a Shinedown concert in St. Louis. Some of the best memories with my kids are at Shinedown concerts.
Love Shinedown so much.
Shinedown covering BM is the greatest thing I have ever witnessed on the internet! Amazing to know that one of my favorite bands ever, are fans of Shannon's work.
R.I.P. Shannon Hoon
their voices are so fucking amazing. I dont think any other band has saved my life as many times as Shinedown has. Thank you!!!!
You and me both!!
Whoa. When I clicked on this I had no idea I would end up sitting here crying. Like, my eyes are puffy and everything. Music is the sonic manifestation of emotion. So powerful.
Thanks for being such an amazing fan 😊
What a great show Bert - just amazing music and conversation. Thank you!
Just came to say, y’all made me cry too. 🫂
Brent and Zach have just a ridiculous amount of talent!!
thanks for this , and thanks to brent for getting himself clean/sober and making the most fucking awesome music there is today! have seen them countless times here in Baltimore,Md shinedown my fave group ever!
Matt from HB again. Halston did awesome to. Had to watch it again. Great job. You got to do a bucket list thing of mine. Thanks again Shinedown.
I live under a rock, so I never heard of the group-but man oh man, they’re awesome. New fan!
Thanks Bert & crew,,,, thank you so much great show ;0)
What an amazing show thank yall very much.
This the best Bertcast ever! Everyone was so cool the entire time. And the guys having no objections what so ever to playing a few songs was so down to earth. I love 2nd chance and hearing the parent story was deeply moving! THIS WAS AWESOME!
I love it when I find a new band to listen to - never heard of 'em before and now I'm a fan
If you ever get the chance to see them live do it! It's a beautiful experience!
@@NoniGiggleBox doubt they get much to eastern Europe. But thanks
@shinedown, Brent, so glad you got sober and well. Thank you for your honesty regarding the addictions. Your story, your recovery and your music touches the soul and inspires so many at so many levels. Your music has journeyed through so many seasons with my family. Looking forward to more amazing music!!
Holy shit! They sound amazing!
Been fan since the beginning! The sound of Brent’s voice just takes me to a special place ! Always takes Away the demons as well ! Forever will love you guys !! I am Sloapie !! Thank you Mr Smith and the band !!
Huge Shinedown and Bert fan!!! Bananas!
I'm seeing this months later...raw, real, no holds barred. Love this episode! Authentic people on all sides.
Well hell just found my new favorite band!!!😎🤘
Imagine only knowing about Shinedown from an alcoholic's podcast 😂
I love Bert and Shinedown, love when two things I love come together for more goodness and greatness in this world. The appreciation for life, support for others, and support for our own selves is beautiful. Then get great music to boot, this made my day. Thank you Bert, Bert's Crew, the YMH group, and of course Shinedown for all the music that has touched my soul in so many ways. Peace and Love to everyone out in the world!
Seen these guy's twice opening for KISS. Absolutely crushed it 🎉🎉
Go to a headline show of theirs. Even better.
Better than Kiss.
Bringing Halston in to play and enjoy the moment was the most beautiful moment to me. Sharing the love Bert. I love it.
OMG two of my favorites!!
Legends
Your music has been there for me at some of my most emotional and difficult times in my 26 years of life.
Thank yall
BEST PODCAST EPISODE OF ALL TIME
I could not stop watching this extensively long pod. Best ever interview with passionate serenade at the end. We all cried together! Love Brent and Zach and all of @Shinedown for all the obvious reason. Now a new fan of Bert❤
BEST PODCAST EPISODE OF ALL TIME - NO CONTEST
Your music has saved me so many times. You have always made me feel accepted seen and valued. THANK YOU BEAUTIFUL SOULS
Brent Smith is possibly the best frontman ever
I’m not sure if he is the best frontman ever, but in my opinion has the best voice in modern hard rock. Sound of Madness to me is the best post 2000 hard rock album and it’s not even close for me
@@agitatedaligator5340 yeah best ever may be a stretch but I think he’s definitely up towards the top. He’s for sure tops in my opinion of the last 20 years or so
Holy wholesome lol good job Halston
As a Florida man, I've seen Shinedown on accident 9 times.
This is true as a former Florida man.
