Sorry for that. I know the audio was not so good in the beginning of the vid. Sound is a tough topic to get right. Plus, what Land Rover owner would not prefer wheel bearing noise over some boring music, right?
I feel the same way. I own a Jeep JK and I just love to listen to the banter and humor of Christian and Vera. They are tempting me to purchase a Discovery though to go along with my Jeep.

@Joseph Howard Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Christian, I always smile when you read the Haynes manual, it was written by my girlfriend's father....I'm a lucky man. Love your videos and you are a great couple.
Hello Jack, yes you are. We got several Hayes manuals. Including Pontiac Firebird and Jeep Cherokee. I like them a lot. Greetings and thanks to your girlfrinds father.
The church bells chiming out at noon, and letting both of you know what time it was, takes me back to my many trips to Germany. My mother lived in Wirsberg (kries Kulmbach) and she lived through the war as a preteen/teenager. I just recently lost her and have been hurting really bad. I came across your channel to fix one of our two Land Rover LR3s, and heard your accents and mannerisms when speaking English. Even though she lived in Canada for nearly 75 years, she never lost her accent. In addition to learning lots of valuable stuff from your channel, sometimes I will listen to just to hear you both speaking, because it reminds me of when she and her German friends would get together and speak in English. It also reminds me of the many trips I’ve made to Germany over the years. You two don’t know how many people you touch, or even in what way. I came looking for some car tips, and was left with happy tears rolling down my face. From here in Canada, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I watch your channel all the time to show me how to fix my discovery 3. You make it look easy. I spent over an hour hammering on my bearing to remove it (20 years of coronation and rust and 200k miles) Keep up the good work 👏
Hi Guys, love your videos, you two are such fun to watch. We have travelled all the way up through Africa in our Discovery 3 that is seriously set up for over landing and is very heavy because of it. We also towed a 1,500kg trailer behind us. In terms of wheel bearings on our car, the very best are Timkin bearing. We have over 50,000km on ours and they are still going strong. If I have to replace our in the future, I will use Timkin bearings again. And, oh yes, we have been through deserts, rivers and completed the notorious Van Zyls Pass in Namibia. Keep up the good work guys. It's such fun watching you adventures. Ivan
Hi Ivan, I just saw your travel videos on RUclips. Wow. Your car looks so cool and your kids so happy. I really hope we can travel to South Africa at some point in the future. 🙋♀️👍 Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian Travelling through South Africa, Botswana, Namibia etc. was without doubt amazing. My advice, if you get the chance one day, you should do it. You can email me at infooverlandi@gmail.com and Jen and I will explain our future plans up into Europe and beyond.
I am a big LR/RR Fan and have a few, and I love working on them. I totally agree with your comment regarding not buying one if you're not doing the work on them. I also have to laugh every time I see one of your videos; my wife pretends to fall asleep every time I talk about one of the cars or the latest project. Great videos. I watch your videos like a tv series!
Great to watch you guys, i watch for the interaction between you two as much as for the content, i own a 2001 Defender 90 Td5, as i'm now 50yrs old i was thinking about replacing it with a D3 for more comfort which is how i found your channel, i was searching for videos of how hard/easy it is to repair a D3, i'm very hands on and can fix my Defender no problem but i have seen loads of horror stories about having to take the body off to do the simplest of engine repairs and didn't fancy that, but by watching your channel i have seen that most of the repairs can be done as long as your willing to take your time and use a little ingenuity. Thanks for your content and keep up the good work guys.
😃👍 Sounds like you are the perfect guy for a Discovery 3. You just have to do your homework on the Disco you plan to purchase and we cannot recommend enought to hook it up to a diagnostics tool before purchasing. 🙋♀️ Vera

Another great video and thanks for the previous advice on travelling in Germany with mods. Vera's Christmas decorations look good too. Hope you both have a great festive season.
Who would have thought changing a LR wheel bearing could be so entertaining - a testimony to your content and professionalism. Have you thought about performing a chassis corrosion treatment?
Hi Christian &Vera once again a great video always handy to know how to change the wheel bearing on my Discovery 3 looking forward to seeing you doing the brake pipes. my last MOT all I needed to do was clean them up and grease them stop anymore corrosion stay safe 👍👍 Ralph Cooling
Hello Ralph, cleaning was ok on our Freelander a few years back and did the job. This time we waited too long. But this will give us content to show you. Thanks!
great video again, and easy job. I watch know for more then 6 month your Disco 2 video. And your make me to decide to buy a disco 3. But the V8 and i drive it on LPG. Great car.
Hiya , hope u don’t mind me asking but is ur petrol the 4.4 V8 please , I’ve got a 2.7 TDV6 and been thinking for a good while about the 4.4 and wondering what do u think or 4.4 please , anything in particular to look out for on the engines plse, thks again , stay safe 👍👍👍
@@garystuart226 before i bought the 4.4 v8 i watched a lot of videos and reviews. It turned out that I should not go for the diesel but for the petrol V8. The engine is much more reliable than the diesel engine and has much more power. But also consumes much more of course. Mine runs on LPG, and I can refuel fairly cheaply in Belgium (0.35 cents / liter). I even live in the south of the Netherlands. Anyway, I only had it for 2 months and so far very satisfied. ATB Raymond
@@garystuart226 We have a 4.4 LR3 in Canada. We have it lifted, larger tires, roof rack etc so we are heavy. We burn 15-18L/100km. They are amazing engines. It is a Jaguar engine. There is a water line T fitting that is prone to leaking, easy to replace with brass. I also have done the water pump and all the hoses thermostat as preventative maintenance. I think we have approx 240,000 km on ours.
@@joelletendre1011 hi, many thks and that’s very kind of u , are the timing chains/ tensioners ok in them please or am I thinking of the 5 litre supercharged engine that’s fitted to the full fat Range Rover plse , apologises for asking a daft question so does that work out around 15-18 mpg plse and is that on the LPG as if so that’s very good considering the size of the engine , I do very small journeys with mine and been thinking about the petrol for a good while , alas though done a lot of work to it , not like your goodself with lifting it but rebuilt the entire suspension system and worked my way through out the D3 over a 4 x years period, mines around 100k, thks again 👍👍👍👍
@@garystuart226 It's no problem Gary. My mileage would work out to 13-15 mpg. Ours is just straight gas, as we overland and LPG is nearly impossible to find in Northern Canada, not to mention the problem of storing extra fuel, and the weight of the tanks. Our LPG prices here are around .90cents/litre. Our petrol is 1.10. Even if we stayed near town, it wouldn't make sense to convert. The timing components do wear, but both of our 4.4Ls(LR3 and Range Rover HSE) are close to 240,000 km all original except for the cooling system parts I mentioned above. The problem ones where the 2005 and older Range Rovers with the BMW 4.4. All LR3s and the Range Rover from 2006 and newer had the Jaguar engine. The BMW is not bad, but they had vanos and guide issues. They also had some sump issues, and the water cooled alternator was occasionally an issue. Yes the 5L supercharged engine in the later years did have some timing chain guide issues, as well as the early LR4 Ranger Rover sports with the 5L.
Hello Colonel, maybe the shaft came out so easy because the road wheel nut was not tight enough. An other viewer wrote the the spec is not 230 Nm, its 350 Nm.
We did this before too. Worked ok but the wheel bearings are harder to replace. We got a video of this repair - which was one of our first ones: ruclips.net/video/eKAc3ifRMwA/видео.html
i think i might have to do this soon. i just did new brakes, and rotors a few days ago....i have a strange noise coming from one side...not sure if i bent the rotor backsplash down onto the rotor of if i will need a hub bearing. we'll see. love you guys from NYC. thank you.
I admire this guy for all his work,,However I will never buy a range rover ,I will stick with my Toyota Landcruiser and Izuzu until they break down ,but I will have to wait a long time here in Australia as a 20 year old car looks like a 1 year car in europe .Great video,s.
This video encouraged me to attempt my own front wheel bearing / hub repair, which was successful today. Do you plan on a video for the rear bearing at any point? I am guessing, whenever it might fail!
You can just drive the Rhine road - you can see at least three castles all the tme - when one goes out of view, another one comes into view. I love driving that road every time I drive back to England, I join the east bank road near Wiesbaden and drive as far as I can before we have to leave to get the ferry in Calais - we normally get as far as Koblenz. But I do like castles further up, like Drakenfels (I went there on a school trip in the 1960s).
As ever, very cool video. I've done the same on mine. I used a Timken bearing, which I think may have been original equipment..not sure. I don't think they should last forever though. Disco's are heavy beasts, so give suspension bushes and bearings a hard time, just with normal driving. Agree, they are easy to work on, BUT I had to upgrade my jack and stands, plus torque wrench. Everything is heavier and a lot of the bolts are tighter than on normal cars. I'd be interested in the transmission work on the challenger! (I have an American V8 powered vehicle as well). Very interested in the brake lines, as my Disco is a similar vintage and will more than likely need those at some point. In the UK, we have the equivalent of the TUV every year! the latest job on mine was the steering wheel angle sensor which gives some very strange problems. Surprisingly easy to take the steering column out, fix and replace. German castles, yes, very different from UK castles.
Hello Vernon, we also had to buy bigger stands, jack, sockets, etc. Everything is bigger than on a normal car. Still it is much easier to work on as on the Challenger. On the Challenger every second bold is a issue. Hard to reach, rosted or poor material. Even if the car is from Texas and has no rost. There are worlds between the manufacturing quality of these two cars. The LR quality really exceeds everything i worked on so far, including Mercedes and Audi. The MTBF has not much to do with the manufacturing quality but more with design of the vehicle. I do know about the steering wheel sensor. I can get loose and develop play and then the ESP kicks in premature. Thanks for watching the video to the end!
Hey guys, nice to see you. Here's a video request for you: Show how celebrating Christmas is different in Germany than in the USA. And I would like to see your castle, please.
Hello Allen, you bet we will do the castle video. I am not so sure about Christmas. We got lockdown right now and over Christmas. So there wont be the usual celebration and there are also no Christmas markest this year. We do celebrate on the 24th in the afternoon/evening instead of the 25th! This is maybe the biggest difference.
Thanks, very informative as usual. Just one request on your BGM, could you turn down the volume when you are making us listen to the whining noise on your left hub? I couldn’t make out what noise I should be looking out for.
I found this video after I commented yesterday on a video you made later the next year ( May '21) my comment was about wheel bearings and the extra load certain things put on the vehicle. And my comment was about changing the bearing and or whole hub, now I know what the answer is lol you change the whole bloody thing! What an expense rather than disassembling the hub from the bearing then taking the bearing out of the hub a lot more work but far more RUclips content for your channel lol. Christian and Vera May I ask what part of Germany do you live in? It certainly looks nice!
See our video: ruclips.net/video/f8SB7aa8jAM/видео.html The manual specifies to bring the vehicle in off-road mode prior lifting. The reason is, that otherwise the auto leveling would cause a lot of moment during the lift process. For working on the vehicle I want the suspension down in case of a line rupture or in case I need to take the shocks out. Without disabling the air suspension, the car would inflate/deflate the shocks while lifting. It is not a mandatory step but I don’t trust the electronics. I was under the car before and it started to lower because of a small leak.
Hi Vera and christian, hope this finds u both well, thks as always for ur continued awesome videos , also had a freelander TD4 before the D3 , was wondering and hope I’m not being cheeky in asking , I’ve had to add more tools coming from a freelander TD4 to the D3 and was wondering if u may have some spare time to share from ur experience of what tools you’ve found are vital for the upkeep / must have / maintaining of the D3 please, be it a specialist tool or just a simple thing that’s made ur life easier please , as I also thought that maybe others have found a tool to be a great addition to a D3 toolbox , many thks once again and hope u didn’t mind me asking , stay safe 👍👍👍
Great Video and love the detail! You have a new subscriber. I also have a wheel bearing noise on my LR3 but it sounds like it's coming from the rear. One thing you mentioned in the beginning is to to disable the air suspension before jacking up the LR3. You mentioned to disconnect the 3rd fuse from the bottom? What was the exact fuse you pulled and is that the only thing need before jacking up the LR3? Thanks so much Mike
😃👍On our D3 it's the third from the bottom. If a wheel bearing is gone in the front, you'll feel it while driving. See if it worsens under which conditions. In the back, could also be that the EPB needs reajusting. We have a new video next Sunday where we replace the ABS module and service the EPB. And while doing so, we talk a little bit about the problems and how we solved them when jacking up our Discovery 3. You might also need to consider, depending on what job you have to do, is whether you put it in offroad or access height before pulling the fuse. 🙋♀️Vera
Thank You Vera! Well I changed out the drivers front wheel bearing last week. You video helped a bunch, but unfortunately still hear the noise. Soooo changing the other front next and then going to check the rears.. I didn’t think to check the EPB! Can’t wait for your next video.. thanks a bunch for replying :)
Oh not long 😅, better also watch that video ruclips.net/video/qOfCDm7i_sI/видео.html But our Discovery 3 has been eating wheelbearings ever since we got it in 2016, long before we put spacers on. I don't remember the brand, but now I have a Febi Bilstein in my spare bags inside the car. 🙋♀️Vera
Hello, several years ago I've red local story on one person tyred replacing hubs and had actually drilled hole trough hub to the bearing accembly for the accessing it for the lubrication renewal. He made threads and covered channel with brake fluid flush port from the brake support. It would be interesting if you can repeat this idea, test easiest tools available for this and give feedback on modification if succes/fail.
Just started watching the video, but I suggest getting the Timken wheel bearings. They are the OEM parts; they cost twice as much as SKF, but they will last at least 100k km.
@@Vera_and_Christian I do understand your rational for going for a cheap one, and it will surely be interesting to see how much it lasts. When we bought our car, it had 109k km on the clock. One wheel front bearing was changed by the first owner, just before we bought it. We changed the other one right after purchase, as it was shot. Went for a Timken one (about 180 euros). Now at 200k km with no issues, despite quite heavy off-pavement use.
The front left wheel bearing need replacing almost every year, no matter which brand. Right side wheel bearing has lasted for 10 years now and still going.👍🙋♀️

Love the video all the way from Jamaica big shot out koooool
brilliant! Christian you made that look easy! had to use lots of gas to heat mine! very jealous :)
Hello Colonel, maybe the shaft came out so easy because the road wheel nut was not tight enough. An other viewer wrote the the spec is not 230 Nm, its 350 Nm.
@@Vera_and_Christian wow. Could that be why your wheel bearing failed so quickly? Not tightened up enough?
Good job Sir 👍
First Germans with a sense of humor ... Love it !!! 😁👍
Every time Vera says "shit", it just cracks me up 😂😂😂
Another good one. 👍
Love your videos you two! Keep em’ up!
Thank you, I need to do this too
I really like you videos guys, good work. I'm about to replace my rear control arms so wish me luck 😁.
We did this before too. Worked ok but the wheel bearings are harder to replace. We got a video of this repair - which was one of our first ones:

Interesting. Thanks a lot!!!!
You tell him vera your the boss now you guys are making me laugh 😹
Great advice at the end, "if you can't do your own work, don't buy a LandRover," exactly..!
you can film anything and we will like it :) a pity the challenger already has problems :(
Thanks. We appreciate your feedback!
hi vera hi christian aI enjoy your vídeos guys👍
i think i might have to do this soon. i just did new brakes, and rotors a few days ago....i have a strange noise coming from one side...not sure if i bent the rotor backsplash down onto the rotor of if i will need a hub bearing. we'll see. love you guys from NYC. thank you.
Hope this video is any use for you. Thanks for your comment. 🙋♀️ Vera
great content ,I have 2012 lr4 baltic blue with 198k
I enjoy learning about all the different names for the colour. Thanks for sharing.🙋♀️ Vera
Very entertaining 👍
I admire this guy for all his work,,However I will never buy a range rover ,I will stick with my Toyota Landcruiser and Izuzu until they break down ,but I will have to wait a long time here in Australia as a 20 year old car looks like a 1 year car in europe .Great video,s.
This video encouraged me to attempt my own front wheel bearing / hub repair, which was successful today. Do you plan on a video for the rear bearing at any point? I am guessing, whenever it might fail!
Our first video was about the rear. It’s a press in fit. Christian
Any content from you guy's is good content! Castle or not 😀
Thanks Dennis 😊🙋♀️ Vera
Great stuff👍🚗
Nice video! What jack have you?
Hey guys, nice to see you. Here's a video request for you: Show how celebrating Christmas is different in Germany than in the USA. And I would like to see your castle, please.
Hello Allen, you bet we will do the castle video. I am not so sure about Christmas. We got lockdown right now and over Christmas. So there wont be the usual celebration and there are also no Christmas markest this year. We do celebrate on the 24th in the afternoon/evening instead of the 25th! This is maybe the biggest difference.
@@Vera_and_Christian I understand! Maybe you can show how you decorate your home and do a Christmas greeting. Just an idea.
Thanks, very informative as usual. Just one request on your BGM, could you turn down the volume when you are making us listen to the whining noise on your left hub? I couldn’t make out what noise I should be looking out for.
RUclips does not permit any complicated edits after upload. So I am stuck with my screwed up audio. Sorry for this. I will try to do better in future.
No worries, the BGM itself was ok, but in this particular case it obfuscated the noise you were trying to illustrate. Anyways, a happy new year!
wish the music was a bit lower for the bearing sounds but still love your videos :)
Sorry for that. Audio is the most difficult part to get right in a video. We´ll try to do better next time.
We live just South of Frankfurt, in an area called Odenwald. It is really pretty here. 🙋♀️ Vera
Can you advise how to out the vehicle into access mode and disable air suspension prior to doing this work? Thanks and great video!
See our video:
ruclips.net/video/f8SB7aa8jAM/видео.html
The manual specifies to bring the vehicle in off-road mode prior lifting.
@@Vera_and_Christian Thank you for the reply 👍
Die schlimmsten highjacks sorry die sind mega gefährlich, aber top Video!
Die biegen sich sogar etwas durch weil der Hof abschüssig ist. Gut gesehen! Danke.
We will do a video with our tools in the near future hopefully. There wasn't any time for it yet. 🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian , hi, bless u and know it will be a great video like the others , thks again for making such brilliant content 👍👍, stay safe
A catchy title for the Challenger.
What was the brand of wheel bearing? Also, how has it held up in comparison to the more expensive brands?
Oh not long 😅, better also watch that video ruclips.net/video/qOfCDm7i_sI/видео.html But our Discovery 3 has been eating wheelbearings ever since we got it in 2016, long before we put spacers on. I don't remember the brand, but now I have a Febi Bilstein in my spare bags inside the car. 🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian I'll watch that video when I get a moment.
Hello Alex, I know I should not save on spare parts... We will buy the Timken next instead of the expensive SKF.
How long did the GSP bearing last? I checked on Rock Auto, it has a Schaeffler brand bearing. I'm assuming it must be good quality.
The front left wheel bearing need replacing almost every year, no matter which brand. Right side wheel bearing has lasted for 10 years now and still going.👍🙋♀️
