Sarah, you had me laughing out loud when you did the bolstering test and fell over. That's one of the many reasons I love your car reviews. Keep them coming.
In case 105 other commenters didn't bring it up by now, Kia/Hyundai can get away with the single-pot caliper because EVs don't need as much braking. This is because the EV will try to use its motor as a generator and recover some of the energy (often called "regenerative braking"). Even if you press the brake pedal, the motor goes into generator mode first, and the brakes don't engage right away. The generator mode can add drag to the car, proportionate to how fast the motor can accelerate it. Nice car, but thanks for holding their feet to the fire about the charge cable. The day will come where manufacturers can assume an owner has a charger, but today is not that day. 👍️
This is true, but I think people have some doubts about relying to much on regenerative braking on a rear-wheel drive only car; you wouldn't want too much braking at the back unless you wanted to do handbrake turns. Of course, the engineers have got the balance worked out, but it's a thought.
Agree, there are many situations where both my EV's will not use regen to slow down. I had a Ionic Hybrid ,, hated the way it drove, its regen was not anything like my Tesla or Spark fairly ragged and abrupt not as smooth.
@@michaelwright2986 Thats not a problem because of the Smoothness of Regen braking. You don't have a sudden hit of braking force that shakes up your momentum. Weirdly the NISMO Delta Wing race cars uses specially tuned mechanical brakes on the rear for the Arrow shaped car. In both cases they can aggressively brake from the rear wheels.
@@Neojhun Not familiar with the Delta Wing specifically, but a race car might not use regenerative braking. The switching electronics on a high-power-delivery controller would be complex, expensive, and possibly failure-prone. Better to have a single-direction motor controller and mechanical brakes. Gonna have to google that car now; it sounds interesting.
Finally! Someone that knows that they were called nixie tubes! Most reviewers refer to them as "tube type things". BTW: You are the only one I've seen so far that has pointed out the lack of a plug in cable.
My favorite part of your reviews is that you open the hood, put the cars on a lift and generally explain what it is we are looking at. If I'm going to buy it, I'm going to work on it.
There's nothing to work on. Maybe suspension eventually. My Focus Electric has a 150k coolant service interval. I love not needing to spend time fixing or maintaining things.
Sarah, this was such an awesome review -- thank you! My wife and I have started shopping for a new e-car and this and the Hyundai are the models we're focused on at the present time -- don't want to spend crazy-money on a Tesla. Thank you again -- you rock!
I have owned an EV for 8 years and have used the included charge cable maybe 10 times. You can find them for a few hundos. Clipper Creek makes simple reliable ones here in the US.
I began wearing out my portable charge cable when used daily. It cost the same as a high powered wall connector. I have two installed at my house now for each car and never use the portable charge cord. I think all EVers eventually buy the 240 hard mounted connector.
Next time when you give it the e-beans, do it with a higher state of charge, (not at 26%) it will then have its full power. BTW the charging cable for public charging or home wallbox is inclusive in Europe, sometimes the cable for charging at a home socket (230V in EU) is optional.

This was pretty much built for Korean cities. Korea has very densely packed cities so finding charging is rarely a problem within 5 mins. Even out on long road trips there are fast chargers about every 30 to 40 km between any city out in the rural areas at rest stops. This is probably why they cheaped out on the charging cable. They've sold so many of these things domestically in Korea even a lot of taxis have transitions to the EV6 and Ionic5.
This densely packed Korean cities correlation with the lack of the cable is speculation. In Europe the EVSE + cable comes with the car, and where I live the cities are not densely packed. This is a dealer choice. Besides, you can get an EVSE + cable starting at 200€ or more... Plus, the EV paradigm is charging when the car is "sleeping". Using the public infraestruture is possible, but not the preferable way. However, I understand that not everybody has a place to do it overnight.
Maybe, but they give you level 1 chargers with this car everywhere except the US. This is just US dealers sucking. I got mine here for 11k euro UNDER msrp, and it comes with a cable...
8:40 Yeah you won't get as much, I drove an AWD one the other week and it really throws you back in sport mode. Something this car is pretty special for is with the AWD model the drive modes actually do something substantial, they disconnect the front motor in eco mode, and it automatically connects or disconnects based on power demand in normal mode. Sport and snow modes are of course AWD only but the software tuning is opposite on responsiveness for... obvious reasons.
Tesla has done away with the power lead as well. I think they worked out that most people don't use them. If you get an electric car you buy a higher voltage charger and cable for home and when you travel you use fast charging. The power lead was useful when there wasn't many fast chargers around but that is less of an issue now.
Disagree entirely - my wife and I each have a 2020 Kia nitro EVs and use the supplied 110 charge cable at home and work. This is perfectly adequate for the average consumer based on average mileage etc. you can however buy charge cables pretty for less than $200 so wouldn’t make a big deal of this. Also a tip for folks you can just buy a 220v cable that you can plug into your dryer outlet and fully charge your EV overnight - no need to install expensive charge station etc.. as long as your dryer not to far from the garage!
We charge at our dryer outlet overnight and have not used a supercharger since December. We only stop at the superchargers when traveling. It is simply too inconvenient and too costly for every day charging in my opinion.
Charging at home overnight is one of the real advantages of owning an EV. Those of us who live in a single family home disagree entirely. Tesla is getting greedy.
FYI, we bought our KIA EV-6 first edition in February, 2022. It's a GT Line with dual motors - in other words: speedy. But, FYI, we were given a 50 AMP level 2 home charger with the purchase. We had to have it installed, but still. We love our EV-6. We drove it from Seattle to the Bay Area and back last fall. No problem charging because also included in the purchase was free charging for three years or 1,000 KW with Electrify America. The trip cost $22,00 in electricity because we charged at a none Electrify America once, sad indeed. Anyway, I loved your video because it was the first time I saw the under side of the car. Thanks.
Great review Sarah, entertaining and informative, you have such a happy, playful spirit. I like the design of this car, both externally as well as the interior. Considering it's not a big player such as Mercedes or BMW, it still manages to exude a fair degree of style which is distinctive and appealing. The charging situation sucks though.

I was just thinking that unless Sarah called the Kia rep to confirm that the cable is not included, I think this has to have been an error or some sort of press car hijinks. It just doesn't make sense.
The AWD version of the EV-6 has a lot more torque (446lb-ft) but it is the same 77.5kWh (usable) battery pack. Great and funny review by the way. It doesn't come with the charging cable because most people don't use the level1 charger most EVs come with. That has to be one of the harshest result for the car.
48k is basic version. You want AWD, handling, and a larger battery - the real GT is 60k, maybe more with surcharges. This is a CUV - 61" tall, so not for those few looking for a hatchback with handling. Was initially comparing this to the BMW i4 which i ultimately purchased.
120v cable doesn't matter. No one would use one (too slow). Most people that buy these put in a level two 240v charger in their home or they have access at their parking garage or work. If you think you need one you can buy a brand name one on Amazon for 175$

Everything was lulling me to sleep listening to you speak Sarah. And then you mentioned my favorite punk rock band "A Bucket of Electric Eels," and I jumped up ready to party.💃
Love the fact you held Kia accountable for not including a charging cable. It's like the Apple of the car industry, before the Apple car comes out that is. Anyone know if the Ioniq 5 also doesn't include the charging cable? Huge misstep by Kia.
The Ioniq 5 comes with a 3ph cable capable of 11/7.2kW, as well as a 'granny cable' capable of 3.6kW at 240v..at least in the EU. The dealership who wants 1200 for a charging cable would be best classed as a thieving prick, a decent 6M costs about €300.
Is it really $1,200 for a charging cable? In my experience it's more like $200 for a slow charging portable cable, and $400-$600 for a top of the line 50 A wall connector that is hardwired into a garage wall (or wherever people want to put it).
2:23 That must be November 24th. That's the way Koreans write month and day. There's also a name of worker who must have assembled that part. If something happens with the assembly, they know whom to call. Yay.
Some EV's have a system called V2P where if you have solar panels on your house, when you EV is plugged connected, you can use it as a battery backup for your house. A bit like a mobile Tesla Power Wall.
Fun fact: This isn't the first car with wind in the name! In Europe you could buy a Renault Wind, but only between 2010 and 2013. They didn't sell well and will almost certainly be MEGA rare in the future.
Hi! I'm a first-time viewer. Great job! love your sense of humor. Selling the car without the charging cable is ridiculous. It's like buying a sports car without the speed. Beautiful design but disappointing that the charger isn't included.
The strange shape s on the wheel opening trim may be vortex generators, they are small specially designed shapes that produce swirling corkscrew shaped air currents that could actually reduce wind drag across the wheel opening.
I have mixed feelings about not including a home charger. It should probably have one (for now). But, It's a standard J1772. So, once you get one you can use it for multiple vehicles. And there's plenty of 3rd party chargers that are way less expensive.
Hey Sarah, KIA overseas obviously makes different choices, as KIA Europe does, since our 2022 KIA EV6 at the time new did came equipped with a KIA Charge cable, capable of handling 3-Phase 11Kw Charge from an additional dedicated home installed charging station we had the electricity power company installed. We also could have used our home power (230V) outlet, but charging such a huge battery takes forever to load with a standard 230V outlet, this is why we purchased this dedicated Charge home station, which we feed with the free electrical power generated by our 21 solar panels. We did opt for the more powerful AWD version with 325 HP because there is no fence around The Netherlands, and so we can take out EV6 on winter sport to Austria or Swiss, and we do, and given the local snowy/icy conditions in the winter in the mountains and the steep mountain roads, the AWD system, of course in combination with Winter Tires and in the worst case with Snow chains does come in handy. The EV6 weighs as much as a flight deck carrier, some maximizing grip is the least you can do. Even at our over the top rain showers at home we get here in the Netherlands, especially when one travels with a heavy barge like the EV6 AWD, the AWD more often than you think helps you out staying on track when a thick film of water is on the freeway. Especially at the freeway exits in the short round turns, you need all the grip you can have just to stay on the tarmac within the white lines.
The best EV6 review, Sarah! As usual, you hit all the right attributes that areal owner would be conerned about - and it was fun. Very interesting car, and really great to see the clever engineering, clean design approaches, and all the cool daily convenience and utilities features.
I had to subscribe because I saw another car review and I thought what would the beans score be. Now I will remember your name and be able to find you again Sarah.
ty for this review. when you pointed out that it doesnt come with a charging cable it completely changed my idea of looking into this car. saved me a lot of time and research. thank you for that.
Too bad they did not give you the AWD with 320 hp with all the bells and whistles. Mine is too fast for me - needs more tie down straps for cargo. It also has the same frunk. In some countries the RWD frunk offered is much bigger. The specs are different in Canada, comes with charge cord and the 77 kWh pack is standard on all models Speaking of the charge cord, first of all they are around $300 and people with an EV generally always put a 240V charger in their garage anyway so the charge cord is rarely used. With all the EVs that you will be reviewing, maybe time to consider splitting out a 240 V circuit on your garage panel and putting in a charger.
brilliant review on a less brilliant weight saving concept: no bolstering no charging cable. EV6 Wind ... powered? it's a message from the future to everyone who hoped to escape leaving no footprints (even when breaking wind) The mess is in it and it goes like: Don't move, EV's are meant to save the planet only.
I like the exterior styling a lot! The seats look cheap and some nicer dash and door trim would help. Some things on the car seem to be cheap, like the suspension and of course as you mentioned not having a level 1 charge cable. Many nice touches though!
This is my third ev. And the best. Don't get your hang up on the cable many of us already have garage charging stations why would I want to pay $1,300 bucks extra?
Two woo's for the braking. Sarahnese for adequate brakes. Attractive lines this Kia, stem to stern. Silly bolstering test, never gets old. Trying to find a used electric car, if the price was low enough. Battery replacement $5500ca for a Leaf. I've seen higher quotes. Still the issue of my apartment building not supplying charging stations. Maybe plug in at work and flip them some bucks.
Soo glad you did this review Sarah, thank you❣️ Agreed that even a 110V charge cable should be included! The ionic5 is definitely my choice vs the ev6. Side note: this battery architecture being 800VDC is very promising for the EV industry as a whole (IMHO). Pair that with new battery chemistries 🔋 the future should be bright with innovation!!!
You should be aware that the battery system is better in the EV6 and if you live in a climate that gets cold, it has a heat pump, which helps with range in the cold. The Ionic does not. I almost ordered a GT-line EV6 but found it was a bit small. So still looking :-)
Pity USA has 110 dc as standard we have 240 ac in Australia lots of other countries have 240 ac just building to the market, thinking changing cables for phones as per EU
@@meganwinters5163 Yep - more and more new models are fitted with heat pumps. Model Y, BMW i4 to name a few. It's definitely the way to go. Still just too hard to find an EV with a lot of space. Im hopeful for the big programs from Hyundai/VAG groups.
@@Michael_HGS honestly I'm still in love with my 2015 Nissan Leaf. Sure it's not perfect, but it's simplicity is key. Heck it's only like 16 bolts, high voltage DC PPE, Leaf spy, a salvaged EV battery and I get a completely New Car Experience 😅. Plus Dala (another RUclipsr) hot rodded his leaf with an inverter update!! Amazing ingenuity in my eyes!!!
First time I've seen Sarah take away cookies instead of giving them! If KIA is smart, they'll donate 1200 cookies to the Tucson food bank in Sarah's name. Actually the best thing about KIAs these days is the "KN" logon. It's cool and modern and had me wondering if there was a new auto brand on the market. It makes the Hyundai logo look cheesy and out of date. I'll give them one cookie back for the new logo.
Ah, a review of a car that I have actually tested too - that's nice! I liked it in general, but just like you I too would rather have the Ionic 5, because it feels more spacios and comfy inside and in some weird way reminded me of the Saab 9000 (which I love), in that the cabin felt wide and the windows were large with great view out. The EV6 looks cool, but I still prefer to see out over sporty styling and the Ionic 5 looks cool too. We don't get the Wind-version of the EV6 here in Sweden - I think that had a prettier face than the version we get here. I wonder if KIA in Sweden skip the charge cable too, because they are selling great here and I doubt that would be the case without cable included - Sweden got a lot of countryside communities and rural areas were home-charging is the best option...
Totally agree on the cables - unfortunately this seems to be a strange choice in the US market as European models seems to include it as part of their standard configuration according to forums I read. My Kia EV6 GT Line in the UK came with both a Type 3 AC cable and a 3-pin 'granny' charger / adapter to plug into an regular wall outlet. In fact, it is the latter I use on a day-to-day basis. The grid in the UK is 240v and combined with the 10amp setting on the charger, you get a 2.1Kw throughput. Not fast compared with a 7Kw charger or public DC charging stations but, to put in in perspective, it can replenish the energy spent on my regular 11 mile trip in 1.5 hours of charging. Providing you keep on top of your charging and regularly top up (and not expect a 0-100% miracle which would take all weekend to charge) then you can see the usefulness of having a basic Level 1 charger.
A lot of people just don't need the cable. It would be a waste to put one in every car. My complaint would be the cost they attribute to it for those that do. It's a cable ffs.
Sarah, you had me laughing out loud when you did the bolstering test and fell over. That's one of the many reasons I love your car reviews. Keep them coming.

Lol just thought of the same thing! Just wondering... did anybody sue apple in the US for selling a product that is unusable in the daily basis?
Always thought of Tesla as the Apple of the car industry with their refusal to allow right to repair.
@@anydaynow01 me too - Tesla also has a proprietary plug and a rabid fanbase much like Apple
And interestingly the sister car, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a evse cable
Is it really $1,200 for a charging cable? In my experience it's more like $200 for a slow charging portable cable, and $400-$600 for a top of the line 50 A wall connector that is hardwired into a garage wall (or wherever people want to put it).
You are correct , you can get in the game for under $200 for slow charge cable
Maybe try the "E-beans" test with more than 26% battery. It might be a little quicker.
Love your videos!! I've learned a lot. thanks
Excellent information! Thanks Sarah!
Another awesome car review Sarah 👍🤗
2:23 That must be November 24th. That's the way Koreans write month and day. There's also a name of worker who must have assembled that part. If something happens with the assembly, they know whom to call. Yay.
aftermarket level 1 chargers run about $150-200 on amazon, don't pay 1200 dollars for one at the dealer.
"Hairy cardboard with plastic nuts" sounds like a blooper from Harry Potter.
Some EV's have a system called V2P where if you have solar panels on your house, when you EV is plugged connected, you can use it as a battery backup for your house. A bit like a mobile Tesla Power Wall.
Those textured wheel arch moldings are pretty cool
Right!!
Sarah, " I would follow you to the ends of the earth!" You posses a Hutzpah of demeaner and vocal quality that captures me "Completely"
I love you.... err.... I mean I love your car reviews and your RUclips channel. Okay.... I am also in love with your personality!
Fun fact: This isn't the first car with wind in the name! In Europe you could buy a Renault Wind, but only between 2010 and 2013. They didn't sell well and will almost certainly be MEGA rare in the future.
Ackchyually, there were plenty of cars with wind in the name, like Scirocco or Passat. But I get the point;) just in case:D
@@SzymonKluba666 Ok, in the English language then! Worst part is that I own a Polo LOL.
@@SzymonKluba666 they are local names for types of wind.
Was it as FUN???
@@CaptainHoratioPugwash Yep, that's quite inconsistent naming convention:D
Thanks fir evaluating EVs. We are going with acModel Y, as there are fewer compromises and it should have a greater resale value.
Love the body style, the car is okay too 😉!
Hi! I'm a first-time viewer. Great job! love your sense of humor. Selling the car without the charging cable is ridiculous. It's like buying a sports car without the speed. Beautiful design but disappointing that the charger isn't included.
Very nice review.....Glad you pointed out the extra charge for the charge cable......After your review my opinion of this EV just went down a little.
Great review! Enjoy your style. Just subscribed.
The strange shape s on the wheel opening trim may be vortex generators, they are small specially designed shapes that produce swirling corkscrew shaped air currents that could actually reduce wind drag across the wheel opening.
The interior section had me rolling. Nope, no bolsters 😅. Heatalated should be a word. "A shape" 😅 "make it really sad" The segment was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great look, perfectly done for this beautiful Korean auto.
The comparison to selling an internal combustion engine vehicle and not including a fuel filler neck was brilliant.
great one as always... loved the interior review and your humor :)
Perfect exhaust noises!!
"Vented and Heatilated" - think you just found the saying for a new T-shirt at the store. Love it. XD
Come on KIA! No charging cable? WTF!..........Great Review Sarah!
People said it might be a press car so that could be the reason.
i have an EV6 Wind AWD with Tech package and it is the best car I have ever owned. The level one charge cord cost me less than $200, not $1,200....
ty for this review. when you pointed out that it doesnt come with a charging cable it completely changed my idea of looking into this car. saved me a lot of time and research. thank you for that.
very entertaining and informative, thank you!
Too bad they did not give you the AWD with 320 hp with all the bells and whistles. Mine is too fast for me - needs more tie down straps for cargo. It also has the same frunk. In some countries the RWD frunk offered is much bigger.
The specs are different in Canada, comes with charge cord and the 77 kWh pack is standard on all models
Speaking of the charge cord, first of all they are around $300 and people with an EV generally always put a 240V charger in their garage anyway so the charge cord is rarely used.
With all the EVs that you will be reviewing, maybe time to consider splitting out a 240 V circuit on your garage panel and putting in a charger.
A Gurdle is a seat for a spring like a Bra but you wear it lower to tighten your Von Strudel
You're the best at making me smile on a shi--y day. 😆
I like the sound of these electric cars WAAAY more than losers with their fart cans. Sorry not sorry.
The EV6 is my favorite out of the Kia/Hyundai/Genesis triplets
brilliant review on a less brilliant weight saving concept: no bolstering no charging cable. EV6 Wind ... powered?
it's a message from the future to everyone who hoped to escape leaving no footprints (even when breaking wind)
The mess is in it and it goes like: Don't move, EV's are meant to save the planet only.
So funny Sarah, but you're so right. A lot of these electric cars sound like spaceships. Love your informative vlogs. Keep em coming girl. 🐧 🐧 ❤
Just so that you know, in the UK you get a type two DC charging cable and a household plugin cable as standard. No need to buy them as extras.
You do great descriptions ,,very believable
I like the exterior styling a lot! The seats look cheap and some nicer dash and door trim would help. Some things on the car seem to be cheap, like the suspension and of course as you mentioned not having a level 1 charge cable. Many nice touches though!
This is my third ev. And the best. Don't get your hang up on the cable many of us already have garage charging stations why would I want to pay $1,300 bucks extra?
“Electric eels in a bucket” 🤣🤣🤣
Nixie tube! I'm 70 and that's a term from my youth.
Impressive knowledge! Thanks and funny too!
Here in europe the car comes with 240 "home" cable and a commercial fast charging cable.
Charger.. depends on where you live. New Zealand models not only come with charger, they also come with the V2L cable
Soo glad you did this review Sarah, thank you❣️
Agreed that even a 110V charge cable should be included!
@@Michael_HGS completely agree on the heat pump! It's most certainly more efficient than the resistive heater... I'm still hopeful for the future 😊👍
15:00 I haven't heard a reference to Nixie tubes since I worked for Kodak (Recordak) back in the early '70s.
The cookie score was hilariously savage. And 100% earned
Looks nice aesthetically, that's one thing.
A lot of people just don't need the cable. It would be a waste to put one in every car. My complaint would be the cost they attribute to it for those that do. It's a cable ffs.
Sailor Moon skirts?, sold ! Where I'm from you do get a standard power cable for home charging slowly. I hope you get to review the GT model too.
