Well done sir! I bring my soy milk to the boil, then simmer for 20-25 minutes. It adds a bit of natural sweetness to the beverage. I've got some okara in the fridge. I'll be making .... COOKIES! I add crushed pineapple, coconut milk powder, ground flax seed (binder) and some brown sugar. These are so good, they actually provoke me to make the soy milk sometimes. Warmest greetings from TOronto!

If you blend the beans before boiling them the milk turns out bitter. Milk is much sweeter if you boil the beans prior to blending, rather than boiling the milk afterwards

Soy milk must be boiled for more than 10 minutes for human consumption. When you see a lot of foam rise up, the boiling has not started yet! When it gets boiled for 10-20 minutes, the foam will be reduced. That is how some soy milk makers is made to boil the soy milk.

How long should this keep for? I have made my own soy milk for the first time following this method. I was pleased with the result; I made it on Friday afternoon, used some, kept it in the fridge and by Sunday morning it was all curdled and had gone off - this seems a little bit quick.

Since leaving this comment, I've discovered what went wrong with my 1st batch. My beans fermented while soaking and since I hadn't made soymilk before, didn't know how to prevent it. I've since purchased a soymilk maker and better beans, Laura Soybeans and my soymilk is perfect & consistent with every batch. I have the "Soyabella" machine and it's great! Makes wonderful almond milk as well.

You forgot to mention that you can also use a slow juicer to make it as well in replacement of the blender.

I cook soy Milk every week.unsweetend soy milk. I turn the fridge temperature to the coldest. n keep the soy milk in 250ml glass bottles(250ml as one serving for myself) at the coldest place in the fridge.
don't keep the soy milk at the fridge door. it's not cold and it will rotten in 3 days time.

      Things I've tried:
      - toast it in the oven on low heat until completely dry and golden brown. Smells sweet and has a crunchy texture, great to sprinkle over cereal, ice cream or any other dessert.
      - you can substitute one third of flour with wet okara in pancakes or other baked goods. Makes cakes fluffy and light, but messes up the rising of the dough if used in greater quantity.
      - mix it with some veggies, spices, an egg, form it into patties, bread it and fry it in a pan. Tastes great and has an extremely light texture.
      - saute some onion, garlic, pepper and green beans, add a cup of okara, a few tbsp of tamarind sauce, some cayenne, salt, pepper, a dash of sugar and vinegar, steam it for five more minutes and serve it as a side dish.
      - dump a tbsp or two into ANYTHING. It does not alters the taste of a dish but adds a lot of extra fiber.
Raw okara needs to be heat treated before it's fit for human consumption. Boil the whole slurry straight from the blender and strain it after it's cooked, that should do it. Or use a soy milk maker.

@@eTiggy or remove the skins after soaking, cook the beans, blend, and stran. This way the okara is already cooked, with no beany taste. Discard or compost the skins. They remove easily. Just rub them with your hands and float them away.

I make my own soy milk the traditional method seen above, and it's fantastic. However, if the beans you buy are not non-GMO certified then it's essentially useless. 94% of USA soybeans are Monsanto GMO, so shop VERY carefully. Two-thirds of Canadian are GMO as well. You will pay more for GMO, but its worth it, as GMO soybeans do NOT deliver the nutritional benefits of Non-GMO soybeans, and in fact are HARMFUL to human health and the environment.

I made my 1st batch of soy milk using non-GMO soy beans, followed the recipe here to the tee and my milk smelled and tasted like wood that had been soaked with water. Very strange and tasted awful. Not sure what happened here, could it be bad beans? I just bought them a couple of days ago, they have an exp. date of 2014. I'm discouraged, not sure I want to waste my time & resources again. I even added vanilla & sweetener but it still tasted like wet, mildewed wood. Ugh.

Well, you'll need to do a bit of careful researching, and perhaps use internet shopping and have them delivered. I live in Japan, and even here, I have to make sure they are in fact domestically grown. Thankfully, it's still illegal to grow GMO beans in Japan...I would search iHerb, and sites like GMO Awareness...you'll find an organic supplier soon enough. Its worth it!

I ate soybeans that I cooked and spent a whole 36-48 hours laid up in bed feeling nauseous. I didn't have a fever or infection of any kind, so I figure I must have not cooked the soybeans well enough and became sick from the toxins I failed to cook out.
      Be careful with them.

    • @smallfootprint2961
      @smallfootprint2961 6 лет назад

You boil the beans or the milk to cook it. It's not good to eat raw beans of any kind. Cook it for 15 minutes after it comes to a boil/simmer.

    • @ingestrauss3826

It gets rid of the "beany" taste of soybeans. If you don't boil it it turns out bitter and raw. You also HAVE to remove the beanskins before blending. This is a horrible video, I recommend @maangchi for her soy milk recipe, and then just strain it
