Hi guys! I get asked all of the time if the process to make almond milk is the same as cashew milk (my personal favorite). And there is a slight difference. So today I wanted to show you how to make almond milk at home! If this is your nut milk of choice, now you won't have to buy it from the store again. Happy Sunday! xo - Lisa
Mother taught me to boil the almonds on heat, takes 15 mins. They peal instantly after cooling down It's better to peal them you know, almonds skin is kind of hard on our system
I don't strain my almond milk I let it run for 2 minutes on high in my Vitamix. It comes out creamy. I also add cinnamon and maple syrup. to taste after done.(per glass) Personal preference. Great recipe! Thanks for sharing. I love your videos.
So I made this almond milk but I used roasted (no oil) almonds. I didn't soak them. I didn't strain the milk and I used a cheap blender. It turned out awesome! Evidently, there is no way to mess up almond milk! 😂
Made this tonight without soaking almonds or straining. I also used 5 dates instead of 2. It’s heavenly. Thick and creamy. Can’t imagine why I would want to strain this.
Edit: I jus did dis widout soaking almonds added honey cinnamon nd vanilla it was divine have stored the rest in the fridge! Tks for this amazing tip! B4 the edit: Thank u am gonna try it rite away! Was upset wen I learnt it had to be soaked nd jus scrolled thru comments nd found urs!
I recently poured a cup of almond mylk into my glass, then read the ingredients: 1.5g of fat. I was like, 'What?? So what makes this cup of mylk so thick?" It's gotta be the guar gum and xanthan gum. Blew my mind. No wonder home-made tastes and feels soooo much better.
I normally make almond milk with the almond skins on. Today, I removed the skins with my fingers after soaking overnight and the almond milk is really nice as an iced coffee. I think it improves the taste. Yum. I also soaked for 24 hours to help loosen the skins.
Thanks! We love almond milk many different ways. Since we make so often I have a couple tricks I use. First measure what your soaked almonds come to, about 2 cups. I then soak a whole Costco bag, rinse, and freeze. Since I know the measurement I just scoop out and add water. It keeps it colder also. If you want to use right away use less water and blend. Add ice to chill and blend for a short time, cold milk! Thanks again for all your great recipies!
I started making my own milks and creams when I didn't like the "natural ingredients" or HEK-293 commercial companies began putting in their products. This has been a wonderful experience. My favorite is Brazil nut milk. I got the nuts at Trader Joe's. I used the recipe for almond milk with the milk-nut-bag process. I also make the creamer and add Nielson-Massey peppermint or orange extract to flavor it.
Thank you so much. This is so helpful for my family. My son and I are not vegan but do have a dairy allergy. I stumbled across you trying to find dairy free recipes. Believe it or not trying to find dairy free recipes to replace things is very hard. Until I found you. Now I look for vegan recipes and it solves my problem. Thank you love your recipes.
Vitamix? Lmao I bought a 1970's blender from a garage sale for $3. Works just fine for making oat or almond milk. Makes a great base for smoothies. Keep shifting down my lady!
Dear Lisa I came across ur recipe 5 yrs ago wen it wasn’t a trend at all nd saved it in my archives. It nvr came to fruition until today nd I thank u for dis wonderful simple recipe. Thank you for all ur wrk! Gbu!
Thank you Lisa for this video and for sharing your recipe! I made almond milk for vegan guests and they loved it. Even Hubby G, who loves cow's milk, preferred it. This almond milk will be a new staple in our house and may even replace regular milk. Some observations: I used two pitted dates and found it a smidge too sweet. (I was the only one with this opinion). Also, I used cheesecloth because I don't have a nut milk bag and it was a bit hard to keep the cheesecloth in my hands after it got wet. I will definitely be purchasing a nut milk bag for ease of squeezing. This milk is so easy to make and I'm so glad I know exactly what I'm putting into my body. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe about almond milk. I just made the milk yesterday then refrigerated, I could not believe how clean, fresh and delicious this almond milk is, I will never buy my milk again from the store.
My first recipe in my new Vitamix! I watched your video and the second time went so much easier. I love the inside-out bag trick. WOW!! There is no comparison to store-bought. I am a long-time fan, and your meal prep tips are vital to my meal planning. I will be making hummus and beet hummus soon. Obviously, I will be able to make all of your Vitamix recipes.
Love this!! I have a baby girl and I want her to eat as naturally as possible so I definitely will be using this recipe for her! I feel like as long as you can choose what your kids eat, why would you not want to give them the most whole, natural, healthy options possible?? Thank for another great video! 🤗🤗
The childs brain needs breast milk fat for the brain to grow in the first 3 years. It does the most growing and neural connections in that time. Extremely important! No nut milk substitute. Talk to pediatrician first. U dont want her not to get the proper brain nutrition. U could effect her brain development.
Confused by the “this is cheaper” comments cause it’s not lol! Almond milk by almond breeze is $3.50/$4 but to make these (by finding the cheaper raw almonds) would put it at $6 a container ($14.50 a container for the linked raw almonds)... however it’s much healthier so I’m going to give it a try anyways. This was a pretty decent demonstration, thank you!!!
Why not go ahead and take a little pain(extra time) in peeling the skin off, of the plumped almonds which comes off easily, that way there will be no need to strain the residue. I do it, so thought of suggesting.
Actually if u peel the skin n then blend n strain .the pulp which remains can be added to a banana or apple n again use little water to make a great shake . If u r using apple add cinnamon n jaggery powder for sweetness . N in Banana use pinch cardamom powder .Tastes really good .
Thank you for sharing this recipe! I love the taste of almond milk and it’s also very calorie-friendly. It’s quite expensive compare to other nut milks in the grocery store though..so thanks!
Thank you Lisa for this amazing recipe. I'm in love with almond/soy/hazelnut milk. I use the pulp for cakes and you can also use it into hummus for a very earthy flavour :)
Ok I’m just curious how can I use it as a hummus? Do I have to add anything extra? I made almond milk two years ago and saved the pulp but I don’t know if I can just dip carrot sticks on it?

Enjoyed your version and this video! I have not made it in a while but I used the bag of Trader Joe’s raw sliced almonds ( without the outside casing) soaked over night then only used water. I baby my nut bag. lol Love it. I can only handle this home-made almond milk as it does not have all that extra ingredients in carton. I use a Vitamix but before that used just a regular bar blender. Vitamix does a superb job! Note that I find mine is good for three days and I use a large mason jar with the plastic white lids for my almond milk. I am thrilled to know that there is something I can make with the left over almond pulp! Back then, I could not find recipes. Will look into yours! ❤️🙏🏻
Just made it and used coconut sugar as a sweetener. It was soooo good and the best part: I knew what went in it and it was only 2 ingredients! Almond and coconut sugar 😍 I forgot to add the salt and it was still great!
I remember many years ago making almond milk by blanching and removing the almond skins, straining in a clean pair of nylons (remember those?). This is quite a bit easier...thanks for sharing. My VitaMix comes tomorrow-I’m a bit excited!
Ernesto Caamano A better idea would be to store them until you get a good amount and then bake them off and finally pulse it to get almond flour. It’s much cheaper and tastes exactly the same.
Thank you for making this my market has raw almonds. I’m thinking of making at home almond milk with my mom, or dad. I actually like having my milk with oatmeal.
Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for sharing, your videos are great, I just found you yesterday and I think I've seen at least 20 so far! For now I'm going to start saving up for a vitamix as I would love to do my own nut milks and nut butters. Keep them coming!
This will save me money 👌👌👌 Almind milk coconut milk etc etc are all expensive where I am from. I have almonds at home and filtered/tap water 🙂 can't wait
Hi Lisa, I recently discovered your channel and am so glad I did. I can’t wait to try some of your tips and tricks on recipes and meal prep. I was wondering if you ever drink “golden milk” (turmeric milk). I have been reading about it and seems like it’s incredibly beneficial to overall health. If you do, would you mind sharing your recipe/version of it?
Hi Brad - Welcome to the Downshiftology community! Yes, my golden milk recipe is here on my website: downshiftology.com/recipes/turmeric-milk-dairy-free/
Hi! I am really loving these recipes - especially the basics - since I'm starting from SCRATCH! Would you be willing/able to do a video about things you keep on hand in your pantry at all times, and how you store/use them? Or if you've already done this somewhere, can you point me to where that might be? Thank you!
I will actually be creating a post for Pantry Staples tomorrow on my website! Make sure to subscribe to my email list as well as keep a lookout on social for when this goes live tomorrow :)
Sherwood Cosmo/Healthcare almond butter requires the whole roasted almonds cause of the oil/fat content in the almond. I heard you can make almond meal or flour out of the remaining pulp but I’ve never tried it. You can always throw it in your garden for compost.
Hi. Thanks for the video. I'm new to this and was wondering if anyone could tell me why shop bought almond milk all seems to have just 2% almonds in them?
Ok, we can also say for dairy “cow’s lactation with pus and other unnatural elements to feed our body”. I can’t understand this issue that people have with the word...do some real research on milk and what’s really in it for you if you continue to drink it and don’t worry that much with words...health is more important than that
I made this and it was sooo delicious! I followed the recipe except after soaking the almonds I peeled the skin off that way I could get more almond milk and less strained stuff. Better than store bought almond milk for sure! Do you just throw the strained almonds away or reuse them in something else? Thank you.
hello thanks for the recipe. I wanted to know if with the vitamix e310 with the 1.4 liter container I can make 1 liter of almond milk or other cereals such as soy, rice or coconut at once? to be able to use 1 liter of water plus the ingredients do you need the 2 liter container? I hope you will help me, I have the vitamix e310. thank you very much
I did this recipe and it was great! But next time I am going to blend the almonds with the water, filter it, then with the filtered almond milk, I will add the dates and blend all together.
@Downshiftology Where do you get the little plastic lids? My Weck jars just arrived today, SO excited!!!!! WILL be making this tomorrow!!!! But I'm thinking the plastic lid will be way more user friendly then that glass with metal clips each time. Also, is that glass measuring jar linked 'similar' to yours or the same? I LOVE yours, just wanna ensure it's the same one. Thank you!!!!
Love this and the cashew milk SO MUCH!! Thank you for the instructions and also the advice about the nut milk bag inside out...I do that all the time for almond milk & clean up is a breeze! Again, thank you!
I just made homemade almond milk and I absolutely love it! Thanks for shared it! By the way, where can I find the recipes in your blog (or what is the title) for the fiber of the almond, i really don't want it to throw it away! Thank you!!!
Hi, we love your channel and have made some of the recipes which were delish, I watch you every day and have learnt so much, my hubby loves the over night oats and takes them to work with him. My next thing to try of yours, is making this milk and I was hoping that you or one of your subscribers can let me know it the bottle needs to be sterilised please? Many thanks for any help. :) xx
Hi Jane! Thanks so much for being a part of this community and glad you've been enjoying so many recipes! As for the bottle, it doesn't necessarily have to be sterilized, just washed and cleaned thoroughly!
Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly, I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. Thank you for the information, I just wanted to be sure that I was doing it right, as we will be keeping it a day or two. Jane :) xx. @@Downshiftology
In India there is a drink made with poppy seeds soaked overnight, blended and strained and then mised with almond milk,we mostly drink in summers, chilled and sugar added
Does the plastic loss you showed for the Weck Jar come with the jar? It's hard to tell from the package, but seems like it only comes with the glass, ring and metal clips- not the plastic lid?

I can’t understand this issue that people have with the word...do some real research on milk and what’s really in it for you if you continue to drink it and don’t worry that much with words...health is more important than that
Maya Herz Omg i didn't realise until I read this commemt😂
You mean *DEEZ NUTS*
I’m so pleased I found you again.
Hello
I am waiting for peanut butter and mayonnaise 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗🌸
I already have videos for those on my channel. :)
Downshiftology thank you dear🌸💗
I soak any dates for 15min in water to remove all the pesticide's Love the vid.
First time I got a bunch of whole dates I ate the entire thing, I have to learn things the hard way I guess
I'm definitely trying this! I go through almond milk so much in my house
You call it nut milk but almonds aren’t nuts they’re seeds...
I made this and it was sooo delicious! I followed the recipe except after soaking the almonds I peeled the skin off that way I could get more almond milk and less strained stuff. Better than store bought almond milk for sure! Do you just throw the strained almonds away or reuse them in something else? Thank you.
Make sure you check out the blog post on what to do with the leftover almond pulp :)
LOL Nut milk
The almond milk was so good! Want to keep making it!
Happy to hear you enjoyed this recipe Cheryl 😊
hello thanks for the recipe.
How long will it last
@Downshiftology Where do you get the little plastic lids? My Weck jars just arrived today, SO excited!!!!! WILL be making this tomorrow!!!! But I'm thinking the plastic lid will be way more user friendly then that glass with metal clips each time.
Also, is that glass measuring jar linked 'similar' to yours or the same? I LOVE yours, just wanna ensure it's the same one. Thank you!!!!
whats the nutritional info on the homemade almond milk?
Thanks for the video. Now, how do you keep the almond milk from separating, please 🙏🏼
Love this and the cashew milk SO MUCH!! Thank you for the instructions and also the advice about the nut milk bag inside out...I do that all the time for almond milk & clean up is a breeze! Again, thank you!
Glad this recipe has been helpful!
You are awesome !
One of the best explained videos & you give options.
I just need to find this bags.
Thank you
Amazon
Thanks.i used ur recipe and came out great...
How long can I keep this in the ref?
A easy tip, if you have a juicer. Pour it into the while on and it will strain and pour easier than a filter cloth.
Made this today, absolutely delicious
Love your videos. Almond milk is much better than milk for the lactose intolerant.
This is so good and easy.
Is it okay to boil or heat up the almond milk before drinking?
Hi, Thanks for the video. After you let your milk sit in the fridge overnight, does it separate? Mine did I had to shake it up before using.
Yes! It will naturally separate. Just give it a good shake before using.
@@Downshiftology I was about to ask the same thing! Thank you for answering!
Love the bag inside out tip!
Great recipe!!!! ❤️. Wondering how long I can keep it in the fridge. 😀😀😀😀
I just made homemade almond milk and I absolutely love it! Thanks for shared it! By the way, where can I find the recipes in your blog (or what is the title) for the fiber of the almond, i really don't want it to throw it away! Thank you!!!
You should be able to find it if you look through my top search bar :)
Awesome will surely try this! How long can it be stored in the fridge?
Wow 2 years later I found this video and love it ! Where do I let the almonds soak ? In the fridge or out ?
You can let them soak either way!
