    In Max Cavelera's own words
    "It's about believe in yourself, about be proud of your heritage, proud of where you come from. Really powerful but simple lyrics. So it's really about just be down with your own roots and believe in your roots.
    The riff of "Roots" is actually a mantra. The idea comes from Eastern mantras that just repeat themselves. So we just needed a very simple riff. I was not looking for something complicated, I was actually looking for the most simple riff that could possibly be done.
    Roots" is full of this really minimalistic ideas that were really simple and powerful. Sometimes it's the harder songs to write which are the easiest. The simplest songs are harder to write than complicated songs"
    as for the song title, it is an homage to Black Sabbath's Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Max Cavalara is a huge Sabbath fan, and cites Tony Iommi as his favorite riff-maker.

    I am an atheist and you guys are awesome.. and I can't think why any polite person (atheist, satanist, buddhist or whatever) can be rude to you.. It is really entertaining to listen to you both! I may not have a belief in god, but why it should be a reason to not to listen to you as a person and not to treat you with best?! Good attitude is not about religion :) It's about ROOOTS BLOODYYY ROOOOTS

    • @trian796
      @trian796 6 лет назад +5

      Just watch any of the debate videos in this channel and you'll understand why people can be rude to Vin. I'll give you a couple of reasons.
      1. He is a brainwashed christian conservative.
      2. Brings up religion and God in every other sentence.
      3. During debates he's not really listening to any points. It's like talking to a wall. His purpose is just to prove you wrong.
      4. He puts all atheists in one group when confronted. "You atheists are bla bla..." Totally insulting.
      5. He actually believes that the millions killed by Stalin was not because of his political agenda but because he was an atheist.
      6. He's a fan of this charlatan called Jordan Peterson.
      Aren't those enough?

    • @adhominem_
      @adhominem_ 6 лет назад +1

      Well.. I can reply to all of that, but it's true, I may not know something since I didn't watch their debates:
      1. IMHO not so brainwashed, 'cos I've seen worse (even according to their reaction videos).. Anyway I was expecting something like that because any religious person is kinda "brainwashed"
      2. Yep.. that is their religion and it is common for evangelists. Can't see why you need to be rude because of that
      3. If he really can "prove" - it is good! Can't say smth particular here because it requires watching debates
      4. Yep this one is not good..
      5. This is an expected thing.. even if Stalin would've been an open Christian they will say that he is heretic or not a "real Christian" - again, this is a common idea that you can hear from Christians..
      6. Not sure what is so bad in that, but I can't say that I know enough about Peterson..
      My idea is that many things that you mentioned are expected when you open Christian video, so why get angry on that? IMHO you should not.. this is just how those people think and it's just their opinion. P.S. sorry for my bad eng..

      I agree, chaos ad was better . Roots has a few good songs{including the title track}- but it's not as much heavy as previous albums were true. Though a few of the tribal songs on it are pretty good fo r what they are.
      I think they really found themselves as artists though on chas and roots upwards[and Max with soulfly and him and igor with cavalera conspiracy}. One of my favorite Sepultura songs. When he says “I’ll take you to a place, where we shall find our roots”, he is talking about reconnecting with their past, a past that was disconnected through socio-political struggles and the resulting loss of cultural knowledge and family...the bloody roots being a metaphor of this...IMHO.

    That's NOT "nu-metal" let alone "quintessential nu-metal. It's thrash/death, their earlier albums were all thrash/death in more pure form. But then starting with this one and "chaos a.d.' they started introducing Brazillian tribal elements in honor to where they came from. It's thrash metal with a tribal twist. Not "nu-metal". Though it is true that to some small extent this album did have some influence on what nu-metal becoame years later, but it's still more thrashy than nu-metal is.
    Check out some material from their best albums "beneath the remains" and "arise"- which are heavy as fuck thrash/death.

      It is not. Not that there is anything wrong with nu-metal, it's still a form of metal. IMO. Though I don't listen to or particularly like it. True roots has some stuff that inspired nu-metal[which did'nt even exist yet till years later}, but it still has more of a thrashy element than most nu-metal does. So, no it's not nu-metal, though it in part influenced some later nu-metal bands.

    • @bschuler6216
      @bschuler6216 6 лет назад +3

      Yeah, by the time they put Roots out, they were really no longer doing thrash. This is like the birth of groove metal.
      They were sort of first wave black metal pre-'87; then they were one of the best Thrash bands from '87-'92; then they gradually became the forefathers of groove/nü-metal.
      In other words: they were the best of bands; they were the worst of bands (SoulFly).

      Evolution is right as it has facts that are repeatable and can be proved. Religion has no facts that are repeatable or able to be proved. If I were upstairs in my home and I heard the front door open downstairs at 5.30pm, I could assume it was a person breaking and entering (Religion) or go downstairs, see my Brother's coat is now hung up on the wall near the front door, his keys are now there on the table yet I can not see my Brother, I can see given the evidence that My brother just got home (Evolution). You do NOT need to 'be there' back in the past to see evidence, proof to create facts. If that were the case, then EVERY detective in the world is wasting their time and always have done! lol Same with Police, no point dusting for fingerprints, checking CCTV or testing DNA, nah, we were not there to see it happen...blah blah blah (Religion). In 5 million years when Humanity is all gone and some other animal evolves to our level of sophistication, they will probably stumble upon our remains of our fossils, buildings and other tech entombed in the ground, they will be able to work out that we evolved and they will find their past that they evolved from - long story short, evolution will live again yet Christianity or other current religions will never come back again once we are all gone. Facts. :)

    Hey guys, I can help you understand what the sepultura means with this song, bloody roots. I lived through those times and I understand a little of what it meant to them. At the time, the great world leaders in metal were the United Kingdom and the USA in its early stages; other countries came to integrate and mix their cultures later. I'm talking about the late 1980s, when trash metal was heard a lot here in Brazil, unfortunately, at that time, the middle class disgusted all kinds of sounds that came from Brazil, from our cultural roots, and the headbangers did not accept any change in the basis of the music they heard from outside, then, at the end of the decade From 1980, Sepultura expose the metal with our cultural, religious, Afro-Brazilian and indigenous roots, and also European, and this caused a revolution, not only here, but in world music. In Brazil, this was not seen with good eyes, as the sepultura mixed these roots, it was appreciated internationally and repudiated in Brazil, obviously not by everyone, but it took a long time to be appreciated here, the more conservative said that it was not metal and the visionaries said it was strange, they were the ones who brought these references, especially the cavaleira brothers, this song roots bloody roots means they are telling metalheads here in Brazil that we could be ourselves and offer the world our roots without being ashamed of them. Tks for the react.
