      TRUTH.
      But at the same time these two are honest in that they are learning about metal from song to song through this channel, and they did a lot of black metal before this, so I can understand why they would take this song seriously. They have only known of extreme metal for 3/4ths of a year.

      llamatronic as true as that is, it has nothing to do with the song. do you think Chris Barnes was thinking about that when he wrote the song? i think not. the man is a stoner who loves extreme music and horror/slasher/gore movies and decided to combine the two. he was not trying to be philosophical one bit. so why not just keep the review about the song and not how it ties into the ‘real world.’

      chris barnes just wanted to shock people. this song is fantastic, but the lyrics are pretty lame and actually like a 4 out of 10 on the violence scale compared to other cannibal corpse songs from the time.
      Barnes went on to form Six Feet Under, the most hippie death metal band I've ever heard. they actually recorded a song called "4:20" that was recorded on April 20th at 4:20.

      @ethan9841 5 лет назад +12

      @sick turrett
      Calm the fuck down...
      Since when did god say it's ok to do violence. The bible describes events happening. The new testament gets rid of that violence and explains it in a lighter mood. The old Testament describes events that happens before Jesus.
      The bible *describes* events that happened. It doesn't glorify it.
      Even if it did you got remeber it happend in ancient times so you gotta fucking understand it wasnt all sunshine and rainbows. Times then were rough. Violence was a common thing.
      But it doesnt glorify all violence for example :
      1: peter 39
      "Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so you many inherit this blessing."
      Proverbs 3:29
      29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you.
      Psalm 11:5
      5 the Lord examines the righteous but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates witb a passion
      Now im not trying to have a religious debate but people who make up shit really give a bad impression on Christians. And it pisses me off when ignroant people twists those words up.
      Again i don't care if you think god is real or not. But, you gotta actually read some facts. The books were written in a time of violence. Did it encourage senseless violence ? No
      Did it encourage self defense ? Yes

    Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse bassist and songwriter) has said about the Death metals aggressive lyrics, that they are nothing more than just "safe way to relieve negative energy in our bodies" I understand that people will be shocked when they hear these kind of lyrics the first time, but i, who listens death metal daily just laugh when i see the good gruesome lyric line. Cannibal Corpse musicians are the nicest people ever, they hate real life violence like all other Death Metal musicians. Its just combining the love for horror movies and way to release negative emotions. Real life violence is horrible and one of the worst things ever, but fictional violence is awesome when wrote in creative way.

    I get the vibe that Sori doesn't know how to just let go and have fun with music. Trying to intellectualize Cannibal Corpse seems fruitless. They're just one of those dumb fun bands with escapist lyrics. It's not meant to be some super deep grown up adult stuff, it's meant to be a release. I get not liking it, but not liking it because it's a bit childish misses the point entirely. It would be like not enjoying Ne Obliviscaris because they don't have techno beats, not liking Behemoth because they don't sing about My Little Pony, or not liking Opeth because they aren't a political band. Surely you can see the absurdity here.

    Come on guys what did you expect 2 Christians to think when they read this? Lol. To Vin and Sori, I have spent actual time with these guys at meet and greet concerts. They are some of the most nicest, down to earth, humble, caring people I have ever met. They have always reiterated the fact that these lyrics are made in the same vein of horror movies and that they are not meant to be taken literally.
    Alex Webster, the bassist, was coming out of the venue one time with his bass in the freezing New York cold. There were about 5 of us waiting by the bus to see if we would see anyone from the bands that played that night and one of the kids waiting outside slips and falls on ice. Alex Webster puts his shit down, runs over to the kid and is worried about him like a mother with her own child. He made sure the kid was okay, went back to get his bass, took it to the bus, and came right back out to hang out and take pictures with all of us while he himself walks through the huge patch of ice the other kid just fell off of just to be with the fans.
    Point of the story is that your assessment that this band represents the bible verse of darkness or whatever you spoke of, couldn't be further from the truth with respect to the band members of this band, who again, are the nicest most chill people ever.

    I'm 41 years old and have been Christian all my life and I have been listening to death metal and black metal for over 25 years. Cannibal Corpse has been one of my favorite bands for much of that period because I've had always enjoyed horror films and horror fiction and their lyrics and themes draw heavily from both. I don't consider Cannibal Corpse to be childish or immature, they know what they are and they have parlayed that into a very successful long career. Their music is extremely heavy and their lyrics, while controversial, always tell some kind of macabre horror story.
    The band's current vocalist George Fisher said: "We don't sing about politics. We don't sing about religion...All our songs are short stories that, if anyone would so choose they could convert it into a horror movie. Really, that's all it is. We like gruesome, scary movies, and we want the lyrics to be like that. Yeah, it's about killing people, but it's not promoting it at all. Basically these are fictional stories, and that's it. And anyone who gets upset about it is ridiculous."
    In response to accusations that his band's lyrics desensitize people to violence, Alex Webster argued death metal fans enjoy the music only because they know the violence depicted in its lyrics is not real:
    "I think people probably aren't that desensitized to it, you know including myself, like you know, we sing about all this stuff and you watch a movie where you know it's not real and it's no big deal, but if you really saw someone get their brains bashed in right in front of you, I think it would have a pretty dramatic impact on any human being you know what I mean? Or some terrible, gross act of violence or whatever done right in front of you, I mean you'd react to it, no matter how many movies you've watched or how much gore metal you've listened to or whatever, I'm sure it's a completely different thing when it's right in front of you. Even though we've got crazy entertainment now, our social realities are actually a bit more civilized than they were back then, I mean we're not hanging people or whipping them in the street and I think that's positive improvement for any society in my opinion."
    I still think you guys should do a reaction to a Morbid Angel song, Blasphemy or Chapel of Ghouls are both good, and the lyric content from early Morbid Angel has heavy satanic themes.

    It's death metal so obviously it's about an actual hammer smashed face. But if you've seen interviews with CC they'll say that they don't condone anything that's talked about in their songs. Even the current singer George Fisher (before he was in the band) admitted to being shocked when he first saw the album cover for Butchered at Birth. They just claim to be fans of horror comics and movies, so they enjoy singing about violence and death, which isn't any different from watching violent horror movies.

    This type of music is the musical equivalent to horror movies.
    Its just silly entertainment not to be taken to serious.
    Cannibal Corpse lyrics are just little horror stories on some bad-ass brutal Death Metal.
    I have seen Cannibal Corpse 9 times since 2000
    Always pure entertainment.
    I nice outlet after a week of hard labour.
    Growling along with a beer in your hand.
    Bang your head to the riffs or join the moshpit.
    Thats the fun of this.

    But i almost never play it at home

    here I go again looking like The Metal Nerd. The singer is Chris Barnes (super nice guy) and he was with the band til '96. He left and created the band Six Feet Under. Cannibal Corpse brought in George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher from this other band called Monstrocity, and recorded an album called Vile. The opening song off of that album "Devoured By Vermin" is the first take of any Cannibal recording he's done. That opening scream is the first instance of anyone hearing him. And he's been with the band ever since. ANNNNND there's a killer dvd called Centuries Of Torment that's 3 discs with a 3 hour documentary full shows and some extra stuff.

    Songs like these bring up the problems inherent in your format. There are many tunes that are exceptionally well written, and have great stories. Some metal does not. This is one of those times. You have to appreciate chaos and the macabre to understand death metal on any level. You also can't look completely in the lyrics, as the music is MUSIC based. It's for musicians. Analyze a riff or a drum pattern for fucks sake.

    I saw these guys live a few months back. They played at this one place in Helsinki in a decently sized hall, nothing amazing but not just a pub stage either. There were about 400 people there and once these guys got on stage, everyone went crazy. They played some of their new material, but the old classic songs were the ones that made everyone mosh and flail around, this song in particular made the crowd explode when they played it as the last song.
    I find their songs to be just mindless fun, and the best way to experience that is at one of their live performances, in a crowded, hot and sweaty hall just moshing and headbanging along with hundreds of other people.
    These guys have been touring longer than I've been alive and they still play with the same energy as years ago, and don't take themselves at all seriously. I had a chance to meet with some of the members after the performance, George (the singer) who is this overweight guy with super long hair and a neck wider than his head (seriously, look him up. He's been headbanging for a really, really long time) was very cheerful and happily interacted with the fans during and after the show.
    I also had a long discussion with Alex Webster along with five other fans at a pub. He's the bass player, he even signed my notebook. We discussed politics, literature, religion and a bunch of other stuff, along with talking about music. He's a really nice, kind guy, and a brilliant musician.. Two of the fans that were discussing with him were christian, and we had a really cool, open discussion about a bunch of stuff with him.
    Their performance overall was one of the most entertaining ones I've ever been to.

    Big Cannibal Corpse fan here, but i dont think this should have been your first CC experience. I like chris on vocals but Corpsegrinder is so much better. If you ever give them another chance try these:
    When death replaces life
    Festering in the crypt
    Scourge of iron
    The spine splitter
    Just to name a few ❤️

    You have to understand that these guys are all HUGE horror movie fans. Mostly B movie types. The vocalist and bassist have both stated multiple times in interviews that the lyrics are all horror movie and also some real life stories, influenced and exploring the darkest and sadistic side of human nature. But through extreme music and lyrics rather than movies. None of them are bad or fucked up guys or really think about killing people. Lol. That's most of old school death metal. Songs based off of the real life shit people do to each other, or stuff from the horror genre. It's not meant to be deep or literal. We all have a dark side with aggression. This style is just a positive way to release it. It's a horror movie for your ears. Have fun with it

      Edgardo Maulen that’s a ridiculous comparison. Cattle decapitation has very shocking lyrics but they have a purpose and an underlying message. To be clear I despise the band and the content but we have to be logical here. Bands within this sub-genre are capable of writing better lyrics with meaning and purpose. This is useless and distasteful; and this is mild compared to others which is baffling in itself.

    I've been reading the comments and alot of people are saying it's just a horror movie in music form, relax. But people relate to music on a much deeper level than to a movie, at least for me. There are songs that have validated my thoughts, set me free, and changed my life. These lyrics may be in all good fun, but you're gonna have that kid that listens to this and it validates his/her thoughts, sets them free, and changes their life. And if they are having these thoughts...

    Very thorough and educating video. I myself am a believer, and I dabble in many versions of music, including heavy metal. As a matter of fact, at this time it's my genre of choice. The main takeaway with listening to secular music, biblically, is don't let it spiritually effect you or anyone else. This goes TV as well.

  • @therealcollector85
    @therealcollector85 6 лет назад +10

    And if you say that the song was immature then you're pretty much considering the whole genre as immature, because "lyrically" all traditional death metal is the same. Now there is all kinds of different sub-genres of death metal, that sound like death metal but lyrically do not sing about death and violence. But to call it immature, you're really judging the whole genre and a lot of other similar bands.

    • @darkestfearspodcast
      @darkestfearspodcast 5 лет назад +1

      It is immature though lol. Those lyrics are so ridiculous and stupid, that they look like they were written by a 14 year old kid. It's so stupid. The music is amazing, but the lyrics are just retarded. No substance at all. It's nothing but shock value. Pure stupidity. They wrote it thinking "huh huh, people are going to be sooo offended by this"...that's immature.

    • @manlenai6786
      @manlenai6786 5 лет назад

      @@darkestfearspodcast Yup. Pretty much sums it up. I'm sure I thought the lyrics were cool or funny more than 20 years ago or more when I was about 14. Back when it was "funny" to tell all those "you know what's grosser than gross" jokes.

    • @manlenai6786
      @manlenai6786 5 лет назад

      Ummm...to each his own but ...they themselves have said that they like bands like Behemoth. Not all death metal bands "sing" about the same things. Some people like some death metal bands and some like others. This song doesn't symbolize the whole genre either lyrically , vocally or otherwise.

    I have a funny Story about Cannibal Corpse. I've been a victim of violent crime and have a hard time going out on my own. When I would have to take the bus to and from work (or wherever i was headed that day) I would listen to Cannibal Corpse, as they were much more scary then the ideas I was projecting as to what could happen to me on the bus. I could control what I was listening to, thus I could control my level of fear and focus it on the songs knowing i could turn them off at any time, and that took away the fear of getting mugged and what not. Then I started to like a few songs, Ironically. Truth be told, I never understood a single lyric to any song.

    With CC you have to understand their mindset when they write these songs. To them each of these songs is a horror movie in song format. The guys from CC are from Buffalo. Whenever they visit back here for a show they always set aide around 50-100 tix specifically for Veterans in the local area. If they aren't used the band sells the tix and the money is donated to the local VA. It was so much one time that the VA called their manager and asked if they would like a wing of the hospital named after them. They joked "the morgue"

    Cannibal Corpse is a death metal band for people who don't take their death metal too seriously. This vocalist was Chris Barnes and their current vocalist George Fisher is a much better lyricist and vocalist. This band is not an analyze the lyrics and go deep down sort of band. This band is you wanna jam the fuck out to some brutal grooves and have a good time. It's like the equivalent of analyzing a slasher film, it's just fun to watch, just like it's fun to listen to.

      George Fisher doesn't write lyrics. He stated this on the centuries of torment DVD. Also Chris Barnes was/is a far better vocalist than Fisher. Alex and the drummer write the lyrics and their not as good as Barnes.

    What's great about you two is that even though everyone is saying how pointless it is to dissect this song; we still get gems discussing the brain. Like when you bring up carving pathways in the brain thereby either creating a shortcut to irascibility or training oneself to self check their own behavior. Great stuff and I believe it to be true.

    I'm a Christian but Deathmetal is my all time favorite music style and this has been my favorite band since I was a kid in the late 80s. I don't really care about lyrics in metal I just care about the sound and my faith had never once been affected or influenced negatively in all these decades. But I can understand that it's not for everyone. One of the reasons I can listen to it and not be affected is because I looked at the music as someone who was trying to be in the Deathmetal music business earlier in my life, so I looked at it objectively. Also as someone who has been a Deathmetal vocalist, I think that Deathmetal vocals are the absolute best vocal style there is. My lyrics were based on my faith and life but Chris Barnes (the vocalist on this album) was one of the biggest influences on me as a kid, style wise.

    First time actually reading their lyrics. About as gory and anatomically detailed as I imagined it to be.
    Like has been stated in other comments already, this is pure shock value, without any further substance (ha, sorry about the accidental pun), though some people, like myself, are morbid enough to appreciate the dedication to write as disgustingly violent lyrics as humanly possible. That being said, good on you for powering through regardless. You do great things for the Lord, keep up the good work, my brother and sister. Our family needs more people like you. Bless you.

    Major props to Vin for separating his bias and judgment from the goals of the musicians. That is something very difficult to do. Cannibal Corpse is most definitely death metal, and many would say the godfathers of the genre, but condemning them for their lyrics is akin to John Carpenter for writing the script for Halloween instead of writing Ben-Hur.
