Orange Crush 20RT for the win as it has a built-in tuner, reverb knob, and headphones jack.
@5 Minute Music Still undecided. Which one takes pedals better, and which one is more versatile for a wide variety of styles.
Vox vx15 gt since you asked.
A perfect example of an objective, no-nonsense, informative review. No flashy guitar playing, just simple examples with all settings and tones clearly defined. Exceptionally useful. I have the Fender.
Bell rung.
Thank you for watching and commenting (and ringing the bell!)
orange has a very distinctive warm sound which i always loved, sold my crush 12L and got a fender 20 and they both are great amps.
I couldn't believe the difference on the crush tone. Orange's sound could straight-out be on the album
Hey man,
Thanks for putting this video together. Really helped me decide between these two amps and I've landed on the Fender. The Orange combo looks so bloody beautiful, but the versatility of the Fender has definitely swung it.
Cheers again
My pleasure! Please let me know what you think about the Champion 20! Thank you for watching and commenting!
I got both. I use the Orange for a metal and hard rock sound, and the Fender for blues and classic rock.
It is great to have both options! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Just a question. How good is orange for blues rock?
@@rathinsinha5646 The Orange is good for blues rock. Just use a medium gain setting and you're golden!
Is the fender good for bedroom metal riffs and solos

Back when we still had live music, my Fender 20 fit in my road case with tools, strings, tuners, etc. (I like to hear when I'm tuning).
For the nights I'm staying in a hotel instead of the crew bus, it's perfect to take to the room if I want to play.
I purchased an Orange Crush 20RT with mini foot switch pedal as my first amp. After finding a Fender Champion 20 open box on sale, I decided to order one as my second amp. Both are equally as good and I am able to achieve all of the sounds, tones and effects between the two. Thanks for selling me on both models! 😉
What would you choose for nirvana tone? 😅
I really like your content, everyone doesn't experience, or support group to learn the basics on Amp dynamics. Keep it going.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Also, thank you for watching and commenting!
Champion 20 is amazing. I'm a mix engineer turned guitar player and I knew how to dial in a good tone well before going out and buying my own guitar and practice amp. I've worked in studios with classic Marshall and Fender amps and it blew me away how good the tones on the Champ for such a cheap little thing. I can't say the same about the Line 6, though...
Champion better than the orange ?
@@totljag1 Orange sounds better for the specific orange solid state tone. Champion is waaay more versatile.
I guess each amp has its own personality. I rather Orange and its crunchy and warm sound, a clean very descent (not a Roland clean but acceptable). Fortunately there is something beyond the Fender and Marshall and Vox sounds...your own preferences. Nice video, no pretentions
@@totljag1 A little bit "digitally" for me
Line 6 original Flextones are where it's at
i find myself having this weird habit of buying things and then looking up reviews while i wait for them to arrive 😅 i am happy to see that i've seemingly bought a great value amp, as you are comparing the fender to something twice the price as of 11/30/22. and since i don't play in a band (i'm starting out) looks like i got the right amp for my use case. glad i spent the extra $25 over the frontman 10g
How’s the amp ??
@@aaronmason6658 it's great! i initially had some trouble finding the right settings for the sound i wanted, but i'm very happy with it now. my only problem is that it's a little too loud for me haha
I read all reviews, buy something without trying it then don't feel comfortable with it, lol...
I own the Orange Crush 20 and love it, but I tried the Champion because 2 of my friends have it so I thought it would be good. To say the least, I wasn’t very impressed at all and the distortion felt more forced out but the Crush was just a warm crunchy tone that I love in rock. Nice review!
Thanx - very good comparison here. I had a 10w Blackstar amp with tons of effects, and changed to the Orange 35w RT. I really love the sound of the Orange amp, and did not look back. When I need effects I add them via the Fx-loop with a Boss thing; but mostly I enjoy the high qualyty sond frem the Orange combo. It's hard to compare higher quality sound vs tons of effects.
I'm an Orange fanboy, however, that Fender beat the Orange in every comparison except the high gain at the end. I was very impressed with the Fender.
I just ordered the fender through your link, for my stepson Xmas present.
Thank you so much!
I hope he enjoys it! Be sure to get him the Fender Champion 20 Tone course if he is new to this amp or amps in general: ruclips.net/video/4CuGxNxvAIw/видео.html
I've been doing a lot of research with many low wattage amps and as much as the Orange has been favored for awhile, this vid sort of changed my mind. Orange does sound warm as others have said in other comments, but it seems to be overwhelmingly warm. No brightness whatsoever with clean sounds like the Fender.
I will be bringing my guitar to GC by the end of today and hear it for myself in person rather than rely on my crappy smartphone speakers.
Great vid and I thank you immensely for the Orange vs. Fender comparison. Which ever amp is chosen, I'll reply to this and met you know.
Please do! Also, be sure to let us know what kind of guitar you use and what settings you try (if possible). Could you film your trip to GC on your phone and upload it?
I am excited to hear your experience in person! Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@5MinuteMusic I've been playing bass since 83 and just happened to pick up the guitar a couple of years ago. I'll spare the world of RUclips of the lack of guitar skills I have.
I visited 2 GC's today and neither of them had anything remotely close. Tried a few other higher end amps, but more experienced guitarists drowned me out. Stopped by a few pawn shops along the way too.
So, after coming back from wasting my time, I watched more vids with other amps and ended up taking a chance with the Katana mini. Though trying something out before making a purchase is something I always do, playing this Epiphone modern without one is taking its toll.
If there was a way I could send you a vid in your inbox (RUclips used to have that option) I'd be more than happy to send it to you after receiving it.
Either way, I'll update in a few days with my take on the Katana. Once my skills improve with the guitar, I'll definitely be watching your vids and will call GC before wasting my time again. 😂
Thanks for replying to my comment and you have a new subscriber too!!
Well, i think it's kinda funny he said "Led Zeppelin tone" on the fender champion when he had actually the orange in the other side, amp used by Jimmy Page haha
That is true, Jimmy Page did use Orange Amps! I am still surprised that the Fender could get a tone that reminds me of Led Zeppelin. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I’ve just got a Fender 20, second hand.
I only ever play clean sound. It’s quite good.
A clear and deep reverb and very full bodied for a small amp. The only slight drawback is a slightly noticeable mains hiss, though it’s perfectly acceptable.
Damn, I was leaning towards the orange at first, but you sold me on the fender.
I started with a fender mustang (V1). Kind of big learning curve but I love the options/effects, it’s a modeling amp
I now have the orange crush 20, with some basic pedals (reverb mostly) it’s slowly becoming my favorite. The “dirty” channel sounds v good, even better then with my cheap distortion pedal on clean
I've got the mustang V1 now (my first as well), and I'm long overdue for an upgrade which is why I'm here. Was there a big learning curve going from all those effects to having none? Also worried about the price having to buy a bunch of different pedals...
@@megatar3 no not a learning curve as much i feel less effects (more minimal setup ) is a lot less overwhelming then ALL those effects; My advice is to get an amp with at least built in reverb OR just get one reverb pedal if no built in. Let me know of any other questions @meg
@@cj.lambert yea I feel like the only things I care about is reverb and crunch and gain vs clean sound. I’m torn between the orange crush and the blackstar ID core, but haven’t gotten the chance to play on an orange. Thanks for the tips!
I don’t think you can go wrong but the orange speaker sounds like it has more umph and definitely a distinct tone. I grabbed the fender based off of your videos mainly and a few other sound comparisons due to more versatility in sounds i felt would be good as a beginner as i progress. Prob pick up a used orange as well for an added sound and the 2 channels. Not very expensive before i eventually grab a boss artist 1x12 mk2 or 3 or something else in that range. Great video thanks
I just got a crush 20 RT. This video me helped me decide. The analog sold me on it. I love it.Hopefully I don’t jinx myself but I think it pulled me out of a rut, so to speak.
I'm a fender fan boy. Had a deluxe super reverb 4x10 but had to sell it to make rent when I was out of work due to covid. I got back into playing and got a crush 20 to noodle on. Im now an orange fan, I hope to get a bigger one someday.

@@antwanelynch87 Thank you! Do you still enjoy your Champion 20?
Great comparison. SUBSCRIBED 🤘🏼
I tried both amps and ended up buying the fender. I use reverb and Delay mostly with a clean or just slightly overdrive tone. The fender is great for that. I do think that for metal type music that the Orange sounds better.
you think fender is useless for metal?
This was pretty useful dude, thanks for taking the time to make it. Also, anybody ever tell you that you kind of look like a young Matthew Broderick?

Lol, j/k😂. Yes, he’s a good looking fella.
Nah man, he's Eli Roth younger brother

The Champion 20 is a super deal! Just picked one up at GC. I tried a bunch of other amps and was looking for simplicity and fundamental good tone so I might’ve been attracted to the Orange but it was not available for me to try. I really like the amp modeling but don’t care for the FX which is fine because I will use with my pedalboard. Played the Mustang amp too and considered it but didn’t need all the complexity. Another amp I checked out was an Acoustic which was selling for $99 and sounded alright but the Champion 20 was worth the extra $30 so that’s what I took home.
This guy wrote the book on reviews. This is a perfect video!
id go fender just because of those extra clean tones you get with the amps, you can always find a 20-50$ pedal for that extra special tone/gain profile to layer on. an amp can always get dirtier but you cant make it cleaner,
I do feel that in high gain orange wins hands down against fender champion. For cleans and low gain, fender sounds better. What your thoughts about?
The Orange high gain is special, no doubt about it! I love the versatility of the Fender though, the cleans with some reverb are great! Thank you for watching and commenting!!!
good video. very well done. organized, clear and definitely offers definite assistance in making a choice. Im subscribing. ty
To sum it up, if you play more clean tone, the best option is the Fender. If you want some crunchy clean tone and a thick drive and some high gain playing with a humbucker guitar, the best one is the Orange.
-I like the effects on the Fender.. plus, I grew up in the 70's around Fender amps, and it just has that old, vintage "Rock" sound that I love !!
Good video thanks. For me, I am looking for the effects so go with Fender. I agree about the middle EQ feature though. It would put the 20 over the top. I have Traynor Stacks TS200 that I love. Old but awesome. For practice I wanted the effects and headphone feature. Thanks for your help. With stores all closed picking an amp without being able to check it out in person is tough. Glad for the videos
Small point: the angled knobs on front off fender are ergonomically better if you jamming in garage band, you don't have to bend over amp n looks straight down like the orange to see or change dial settings! Utubers never mention that!🙏😎
Which one is good for Jazz Rock Fusion? Fender or Orange?
Which one would you say is best for rock music?
Champion with crunch setting nailed it
Very comparison review. Thank you.
Dude these videos are great! I've been so stuck on what amp to buy and this video simplifies that lol
Which one did you decide on? Thank you for watching and commenting!
Gotta say, the fender sounds great, and I plan on using some pedals so I feel like the clean tones will pair better!
which is higher volume fender champion 20 or orange crush 20
Thanks for the info I'm thinking fender
Thanks for a great video. Very helpful, much appreciated. I am a beginner buying my first amp. All in all I think I’m going with the fender. Mainly because of its appearance.
You can get the Orange Crush 20 in black if you want. Does that make a difference?
nice info, it helpsme to decide
I have a question for you. I’m irig and bias fx 2 user. So have lots of tones. I want a practice amp to use with my setup. Amp settings will be on only clean tone. I want to hear cristal clear the sound but both of, clean tone and dirty tone. For example if I go with fender, can I get lots of great tones with clean channel of the amp? Which one is better for me? What do you think? I tried that before blackstar ht1r and was great 👍
Speaking of pedal option I recommend fender mustang LT 25 it’s right around the same price as those 2 amps buddy
i have a question, i have a champion 20 and it makes noise when i raise the volume up and i am not sure if it's the amp or the cable? please answer
Is it a crackling noise when you turn the volume knob? If so, it could be dust in the knob. Just spend a minute turning it up and down for a bit, then see if that helps.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
To me the orange was thicker, fuller, the fender was just so thin and plunky, but the way our ears are, if we wasn't comparing those side by side the fender would probably have sounded really good ,, but victory orange,😁
Seems the fender amp could make any guitar sound like it has single coil pickups! 😆
I think the sound of the Orange amps (combos) is an acquired taste. Some people love it, some don't.
As for me, I think the Fender _crushes_ it, especially on cleans. ;-) It probably doesn't clearly come through here because of the mic used but I've heard them before and that's what I thought.
Not having separate mids control never seriously bothered me.
If i were looking for a white stripes/black keys bluesy sound, would the orange do the job? I do want a warmer sound, had a small fender before and it seemed a tad tinny and harsh. Thoughts?
The Orange is too rough for that. The Fender would be a better choice, even though all it does is run the same voicing through different circuits.
@@DerpRulesAll I already got the fender, sounds great! 👍
@@NickLoTurco If the Orange had a low Gain option, instead of the Gain starting at crunch halfway up, it would've been better.
I just bought a Champ 20 and like it, but I'm wondering if you can get a SLAYER tone from the Crush without a petal the way I can with the Champ? Cause I really liked the Crush sound....
Seen a Orange Crush 20L for £40 is this worth it?
Hey! I have ibz10gv2-u should i need to upgrade orange crush 20? I'm new at guitar so my friend recommended me ibz10gv2-u. i really enjoy playing with distortion and my purpose is: playing guitar to my friends and start a band with my friends. do you think i should upgrade?

I just had my Champion 20 delivered this afternoon so far I’m impressed by the sound. What do have a concern about is when I turn off the amp I get a loud pop.Is that something I should be concerned about? The MG 30 I just sold used to do that but it went away after awhile.
That loud pop is electrical discharge I had mine for over 2 years now and it always done that it's normal
Put a 3.5m plug in the headphone socket before turning it off.
Thanks! Very helpful.
What is neck pickup end bridge pickup setups ?
Well I've had a crush 35t for a couple years now and just bought a champion 20 yesterday on black Friday. I'm thinking I'm gonna like the fender better!!! I'm actually really excited about it. Maybe I'm just tired of the orange. I use blackstar tube with celest speaker so the crush not having effects just reminds me of a cheap tube. So the fender seems to just have more to offer
I have both, but I prefer the crush 20 by a mile
Orange and the rest of the top-controls are always getting a lower score from me when talking about practice amps. Most ppl don't put them on the ground but on a table or nightstand etc. This means that using the top is way worse than having a front side.
PS: Fender had the bass overpushed = bad settings.
How do you play in a band with a drummer when they are solid state and only 20 watts? A 20 watt tube amp would be loud enough for a band.
Im considering any of these for size and volume, but id like to know if i just set any to clean and run a o/d and a phaser or wah? Which one would take better to pedals?
My guess is that both would do great on their clean channels. However, I have never tested that so I can’t say for sure. Thank you for watching and commenting!
This guy reminds me of Todd Gack from Seinfeld, good review Todd.
I bought the fender champion 20, It's a great little amp. One question, is it normal for the speaker to make a pop sound when I turn it off? If not what could be wrong?
My friend has one and he says it is normal for the speaker to make pop sound
@@zeljkopejcic684 Thank's man you are a friend.

Q. can we connect Fender Champion 20 to an audio interface for recording in one of the channels?
I own a Champion 20 and it ok for a practice amp (when i played in a band years ago) i was used to a Marshal double stack so was tough to get used to, but something most reviewers seem to leave out is that each guitar will sound very different due to quality, pick up style/design, quality of the pots, ect.

I really like the fender sound. Thinking of going with it
I made this same decision before this video had came out, between these 2 amps. I gotta say the fender has not let me down. The ability to get the voices of basically 4 amps is great. I would however recommend maybe going up to the champion 40. Not much more money, and you get that effects channel switch that the orange has.
