Well, a sincere review is always apreciated! I guess Zappa isn’t for everyone but if you like him the really great thing with his music is that you can listen to it many, many times without getting bored and constantly Discover more and more details. That is the signum of quality music I say!😵💫
It is not racist to say it sounds Chinese. Zappa loved Asian music and used lots of their scales and chords. There is a part during Lumpy Gravy where a guy says "Almost Chinese Huh? That taser sound is a sound effect called a "ratchet" that you crank. They also use one in Ben E King's "Stand By Me"
This is a real dep end dive to give Zappa a first listen to. It is a jazz LP and not very easy to access without being familiar with his overall work. Cudos for going for it. I've been listening to it since it came out in 1969 and so I love it. Mr. Green Jeans is a jazz/orchestral interpretation of an earlier song of his, Call Any Vegetable. Mr. Green Jeans was a character on the children's show Captain Kangaroo from the 1950s - 1960s. Gumbo Variations is another take on that song. This LP overwhelmed a lot of people at the time and for the last 50 years.
One of his best albums Frank went to high school here in the valley As kids we were obsessed with him listen to him on eight track tape I know who that girl is on the album cover who is creeping out of the empty pool Eventually my best friend in high school John Thomas went on to work with Captain Beefheart also known as Don Van Vliet who used to hang around with Frank here in the valley
somebody out there in that audience knows what we are doing, and that person is getting off on it beyond his or her wildest comprehension. "Frank Zappa"
I rememeber this stream too i was there and you found it impossible to rate it cause it was so complex and unlike anything you heard before. Loved this, i prefer your reaction To One Size Fits all which is also by Frank and i remember u giving it a 10/10
@@Peter-K It was quite a while ago. I wanna say 3-4 years ago. He had a lot of the best reactions that I’ve seen, but I think a lot of them are gone unfortunately.
I've been a huge fan of Zappa since the late 70's when I was in my teens. This is a great honest reaction! Outside of Peaches En Regalia,, which I can listen to at any time because it's so perfect, I really have to be in the mood for the rest of this album. So don't feel bad about not loving it right away. That can happen a lot with Frank's work.
I remember not really liking his music the first time(s) I listened to it. But as I listened more and more, it really grew on me. Now he's one of my favourites!
I think this album is in an upper tier of approachability, there are a few more albums that are probably easier for most people (overnite sensation for example). Not easy music to get into My two favorite albums are sheik yerbouti and we’re only in it for the money. Both of their production styles are radical, both are pretty hard listens. These albums have made it hard for me to appreciate pop music anymore
Considering that Waka/Jawaka had a working title of Hot Rats 2 and Sleep Dirt had a work8ng title of Hot Rats 3, this album may not be that unique. But that's only for Zappa's very high stzndards. All kidding aside, this is an early jazz rock masterpiece. The albums mentioned above are worth checking out.
Weaboo! I sang in a jazz trio for awhile and our fearless leader had writing lyrics for every fooking melody note in Call Any Vegetable. I have a recording somewhere; one of the weirdest collaborations I’ve ever done
this is awesome! i definitely need to get zappa on record for sure, love that its got a trippy kind of sound to it. the jams almost remind me of phish in a way
One thing to consider is this album came out in 1969 a time where popular music was just beginning to break out of the predetermined packaging, where everything had to follow certain strict rules and anything that deviated from that was considered WAY to risky. Fast forward to today and saying the word "pimp" in a song is about as generic as it gets. But back then Frank was simply laying the ground work.
This made me think of more worthwile covers: the Dixie Dregs' versions of Peaches En Regalia and Kashmir are pretty dope... Not 'better' than the originals, but very enjoyable interpretations nonetheless
You realize this is 54 years old, right? Twenty bucks went a lot farther in those days. Also, they didn't have tasers; that rapid, clicking sound is a musical instrument of sort. Think outside your era.
At least you’re listening and liking it but you really need a course in instruments ‘a recorder for fuck sake’ where have you been , look at the album, that will tell you who’s playing what. This album is a journey.
he is young for the young today its all computer generated noise. most young today don't even know what a guitar looks like or what it is and for that matter what it is used for. "the future is scary," "yes it sure is."
Somehow I had this album of all albums saved. Enjoy!
Listen to Watermelon In Easter Hay by Frank Zappa. You wont be disappointed.
@@andromedarising5764 That has one of those solos that just brings a tear to my eye.

Are you sure it's jazz? It's just Zappa.
I wouldn't cut one note from this album HOT RATS BABY
Every time I got a bit of swag, the beginning of "Willie the Pimp" plays in my mind.

Fake reacting Videos, troll🤣🤣🤣
Zappa was last shit
Without the shit ugly zappa, the music World would be much better 🤣 🤣
If Frank had played the same thing over and over, one could say that Willie The Pimp goes on too long... but he doesn't and it's epic...
Hey WeeBoo, check out "Apostrophe*" next but have the lotion at the ready💡😉
Frank is a deep dive.
Your reaction was almost identical to mine, in 1972. Cheers on the honesty of your review.
Only 119 albums to go enjoy the journey.

when and where was that? I looked through his reactions and did not see one for one size fits all.

I like many Zappa's albums but I can't stand Hot Rats.
You listen to any Frank Zappa album with curiosity first, then ponder the universe and your place in it afterwards.
14:00 "What Instrumet is this?!" I guess this is a clarinette played by Ian Underwood.

my email address is named after this song. this song hooked me to zappa about 15 years ago. i love it more than any song ever i think
this is awesome! i definitely need to get zappa on record for sure, love that its got a trippy kind of sound to it. the jams almost remind me of phish in a way
No kidding haha....Zappa is probably the single biggest influence on Phish's music
Zappa was filth
wonderful album

Napoleon Murphy Bro, was the guy on saxophone for most of Zappa's songs. I'm not sure that he was the sax on this album, or not.
this is Ian Underwood
Its zappa..
thanks for trying..it take effort
Joe's Garage!
Fuck it bro a little Chinese goes a long way. Check out Lumpy Gravy !
You're alright. It does sound Chinese. For a second.
Did you say tazer? Anyway it’s a castanette.
